Chapter Twenty One
Kaoru's POV
Hikaru and I were at school for a meeting of the Host Club on Saturday morning when I got the Skype call on my iPhone. Fortunately, the meeting had just ended and we'd finished planning the Christmas party the boss wanted to throw. Ah crap. I thought as my phone rang. I totally forgot we were going to be here this morning, and didn't tell Eva about it. Crap! I thought, looking around the room frantically as my phone rang loudly again.
"Kao-chan? Aren't you going to answer your phone?" Honey-Sempai asked, looking curiously at me.
"Uhm…I think this one's a Skype call." I stated, laughing awkwardly.
"Is it Eva?" Hikaru whispered to me.
"Yeah. It is. What do I do?" I replied in the same quiet tone.
"Kyoya-Sempai…Can I use my laptop? Kaoru's pen-pal is trying to Skype him." Hikaru asked. Kyoya-Sempai nodded.
"The club's meeting is finished for the day, I don't see how it could do any harm. Just…Don't do anything dumb." Kyoya-Sempai told us.
Hikaru nodded and passed me his laptop. Quickly I logged into Skype and answered Eva's call. I studied her for a second, she looked tired and upset. Oh no…What's going on? Is everything okay? I wondered.
"Hi Kaoru!" she exclaimed upon seeing me, smiling brightly.
"Hi Eva! What's up? So…You promised me snow-day stories! How was not having school for the last two days? I bet it was awesome." I replied.
"Eva-chan hasn't had school for two days? What happened?" Honey-Sempai asked.
"Who's that talking in the background?" Eva inquired, eyebrows furrowed.
"That's Honey-Sempai. I'm…at the Host Club right now. We had a meeting this morning about the Christmas party we're having. I completely forgot to tell you." I told her, rubbing the back of my neck awkwardly.
"Smooth move, Ex Lax." She replied, snickering and rolling her eyes slightly. Hikaru chuckled. I rolled my eyes at him, then turned back to Eva and stuck my tongue out at her. She laughed that beautiful, contagious laugh of hers and I smiled.
"Kao-chan? I want to meet Eva-chan. Can we say hi?" Honey-Sempai asked.
"Sure! Eva, do you want to meet the Host Club officially?" I asked. Eva laughed slightly and nodded.
"Sure." She replied.
"Alright, Eva! This is what the Host Club room at Ouran Academy looks like, and here's the host club!" I replied, turning the laptop slowly around the room.
Honey-Sempai jumped up and down to try to get on the screen and see Eva. Judging by the sound of her laughter, it was working. Mori-Sempai nodded towards the laptop and gave a non-committal sound. Haruhi smiled and waved as Kyoya smirked knowingly and scribbled something in his mysterious black book. I couldn't see Eva's face at the time, but I imagined her eyebrow must have shot up into her hairline. The boss wasn't in the room at the time and Hikaru grinned mischievously.
"Hello again, Eva. You didn't miss me too much did you?" Hikaru asked smoothly. I made a face at my brother, rolling my eyes and sitting down with the laptop.
"No, not really." Eva responded with a snarky smirk.
"Not really?" Hikaru pressed.
"Not at all, actually." Eva added, tilting her head to the side. I laughed at the indignant expression on Hikaru's face.
"Alright! So Kaoru's told me a bit about you guys at the host club, but I don't think I've gotten all of your names…" Eva stated, trailing off.
In an instant, nearly everyone had gathered around the laptop and Honey-Sempai began speaking at the speed of light. Suddenly, the boss returned to the room and furrowed his eyebrows at us.
"Oh! And Tama-chan just came back! Do you want to meet him too, Eva-chan?" Honey-Sempai asked. Eva knit her eyebrows together and gave me a look.
"He means Tamaki, the president of the club." I told her. She nodded.
"Who are you all talking to, Honey-Sempai?" the Boss asked.
"Oh! We're talking to Kaoru's pen-pal, Eva-chan! The one we saw in that video a while back singing. Remember?" Honey-Sempai responded.
"You showed them our YouTube videos?" Eva asked as her eyes widened and her voice shot up an octave and a half.
"They only showed us a few of them, Miss Montanari. And you and Miss Snyder are rather good singers, so there is nothing to be embarrassed about." Kyoya stated calmly.
"And it was all Hikaru's idea." Haruhi added. Eva sighed deeply and I mouthed a 'Thank You' to both Haruhi and Kyoya.
"Why are all the pranks and things Hikaru's idea?" Eva asked.
"Because I'm just so much more mature and sensible and charming?" I tried. Eva laughed.
"Oh is that so? Well, I'm the better looking one." Hikaru retorted.
"You two are twins. Physically, you look the same." Haruhi stated. I opened my mouth to reply, but Eva cut me off.
"Don't even try, Kaoru. You know she's right, and you both use it to screw with people. I would know." She stated, pointing a finger at me.
"What do you mean 'I would know'? What have these two shady twins done to you, princess?! Have you fallen victim to one of their awful pranks?!" the Boss exclaimed dramatically.
"First of all…Don't call me princess." Eva stated, turning to give the Boss a frightening glare. "And second, yes. They've pranked me through Skype, but…" Eva started, but was cut off.
"You shady twins! How could you do such a thing to such a beautiful princess like Eva?!" the Boss asked, rounding on Hikaru and I.
"Don't call me princess!" Eva exclaimed, raising her voice slightly to be heard over the Boss's rambling. "And as I was saying…yes, they've pranked me. But I've sworn revenge on them both." Eva finished, grinning a grin somewhere between mischievous and evil. It was slightly scary.
"So, Eva, Kaoru tells me you really like to read…like me. What else do you like doing?" Haruhi asked, trying to diffuse the chaos.
"Reading and writing are some of my favorite things to do. You know, when I'm not drowning in schoolwork. Damn AP Euro." Eva replied.
"What's AP Euro?" Hikaru asked.
"It's a class that I'm taking where I can earn college credits while I'm still in high school. If I get a 3, 4, or 5 on the AP Exam in May, I can get...I think it's three college credits. And there are more options for AP or SCALE classes next year. If I plan it right, I can graduate high school with enough credits for my entire freshman year of college." Eva explained.
"Do you want to tell them about the martial arts, or should I?" I asked. Eva shrugged, so I continued. "Okay...So Eva wants to be modest now, and is having me tell you what an awesome martial artist she is. She's a brown belt in Jiu-Jitsu and has been studying it for almost ten years." I stated.
"Technically, it'll be nine years next month." Eva added.
"You study martial arts too?!" Honey-Sempai exclaimed.
"Yes." Eva replied slowly.
"Takashi and I are martial artists too. Takashi does kendo and karate, and so do I!" Honey-Sempai told her. Recognition flashed across Eva's face for a moment, then her eyebrows furrowed in thought. "Eva-chan? Are you alright?" Honey-Sempai asked, nearly pressing his face to the laptop screen to see Eva.
"Huh? Yeah. I'm fine. I just...I've heard the name Takashi somewhere before. I just can't remember where." Eva replied absently. Mori-Sempai glanced at the laptop, and her. "Kaoru...You introduced me to him as Mori-Sempai. right?" she asked.
"Yeah. Why?" I asked. I saw Kyoya-Sempai smirk out of the corner of my eye, as everyone else watched curiously.
"Is that short for anything?" She asked.
"Well...It's technically short for his last name. Morinozuka." Honey-Sempai answered. Eva's eyes widened and her jaw fell open slightly.
"Takashi Morinozuka? As in, world champion of kendo?" She asked. Mori-Sempai nodded.
"How did you know?" Haruhi asked.
"I...I've seen the world championship videos on YouTube. Almost everyone at the dojo I go to knows who you are...Mori-Sempai?" She replied, glancing at Mori-Sempai, as if to ask how she should refer to him. He nodded at her.
"Have you heard of Honey-Sempai too? Mitsukuni Haninozuka?" Hikaru asked. Eva nodded.
"You've heard of me, Eva-chan?" Honey-Sempai asked.
"Yeah." Eva replied.
"That's so cool! You should come practice with us when you come to Japan! Wouldn't that be fun, Takashi?" Honey-Sempai asked, bouncing in his seat. Mori-Sempai nodded.
"We'll see. Okay?" Eva replied.
"That should be fun to watch, actually." Hikaru mused.
"Indeed! It would seem Eva is more of a warrior princess then, wouldn't you say?" the Boss asked.
"Call me princess one more time, Tamaki-Sempai, and we'll use you as a practice dummy." Eva stated, glaring at the Boss. Tamaki-Sempai whimpered and began to retreat to his emo corner.
"She also does archery boss! I'd do what she says." Hikaru called after him.
"Must you?" Eva asked.
"Of course I must, my dear princess." Hikaru replied, smiling devilishly at her.
"Could someone hit him for me?" Eva asked. Haruhi and I laughed, while Kyoya-Sempai wrote something down in his black notebook. "So...anyway...There's uh. There are some things I really need to talk to Kaoru about. Is there some way we can do that privately?" Eva asked awkwardly, looking down and scratching at the collar of her shirt. Nooo. Eva, why do you do that? What happened to the confidence you had when you were talking to Haruhi, or making fun of Hikaru? I thought.
"Uh. Yeah. I can move to the next room, if that's any better." I replied. Kyoya-Sempai nodded for me to go, so I picked up Hikaru's laptop and went into another, smaller room next to Music Room 3.
"Is everything alright, Eva? You seemed upset when I answered the call. Is something wrong? You know you can tell me anything." I stated, sitting down on a couch in the other room.
"I know...I know, Kaoru. There's a lot going on right now." Eva sighed heavily.
"Awwn. What's going on? Is it Reyna? Your cousin?" I asked, getting worried now.
"It's my cousin...And, it's kind of a long story." Eva replied.
"Tell me?" I asked.
*Third Person POV*
"Do you think everything is alright with Eva-chan?" Honey asked quietly, looking up at Mori.
"I don't know." Mori shrugged.
"Kao-chan seems to care about her a lot, doesn't he?" Honey mused. Mori nodded and made a sound of agreement. "Do you think he loves with her, Takashi? I think so, I just don't think he realizes it yet." Honey continued.
"I don't know." Mori repeated.
"I guess we'll just have to wait and find out, won't we?" Honey stated, smiling brightly as he did. _Author's Note: I'm so sorry! I've been gone for what feels like forever haven't I? I'm sorry guys. I've had tons of school stuff to work on and so much stuff to do. Updates on this and all my other stories will probably be pretty slow for a while. Please don't be too mad, I'm just so busy and I don't have a ton of writing time. But anyway...Leave it to Honey to drop a bombshell like that, huh? READ AND REVIEW PLEASE!
