Chapter 20

What's gonna happen!? Read and find out!

Since Armel looked away from Clary when he pulled the trigger, the gun had been pointed at her leg when the trigger was pulled, but she still went flying to the floor below. Everything for her went in slow motion, she was shot in the leg and more pain soon spread from her back, through her whole body once she hit the floor. She heard Jace call her name but she couldn't reply and say she was alright because she had the wind knocked out of her. Her leg was throbbing and stinging in pain, that suddenly got worse when there was sudden pressure on the wound. She managed to take a breath and open her eyes to see Simon, wearing a bulletproof vest, trying to stop the bleeding.

She gave him a weak smile, which he returned, happy to see she was alright. The smile soon vanished as multiple shots were fired. Simon ducked down over Clary protectively before looking up to see if she was alright. "We-e need to g-ge-t som-mewhere s-saf-fe." she said, pointing at one of the burt offices. Simon looked at her and nodded. "Can you stand?" he asked. She nodded and sat up slowly, and with Simon's help, they made their way to one of the offices. They found themselves in Simon's old office, hidden behind the desk, while Jace and Armel were shooting at eachother.

"Stop where you are!" he yelled, pointing his rifle at Armel, this got his and Clary's attention. Clary smiled at him quickly before the trigger was pulled, the bullet racing through her leg, and she fell to the floor below. "Clary!" He yelled. She hit the floor hard, her chest didn't rise or fall for many seconds after that. HE turned to Simon quickly. "Go help Clary!" he said to him before running to the stairs where Armel was descending. Simon ran over to her and began putting pressure on her wound. Jace kept running towards Armel, he was about to take a shot when Armel opened fire on Jace.

Jace hid behind one of the old examination platforms while Armel re-loaded his pistol. Jace snuck a glance at Simon and Clary and saw them making their way into Simon's old office. He smiled, thankful that she was safe. "Come on Jonathan," Armel called, firing a warning shot. "You know you can't win this one, not with your injuries." Jace hissed in pain as his lungs burned due to the heavy breathing. "But I will win," Jace said once his breathing calmed, slowly rising and making his way around the platform. "Or die trying." He stood up and raced around the side of the platform, his eyes in the scope. But, Armel was no where to be found. He did a quick 360 around the Institute, finding nothing. Then he heard her voice.

"You know you can't win this one," she heard Armel say. "Not with your injuries." Clary's heart was racing, she was hoping Jace was alright considering he almost died earlier that night. She looked up to Simon quickly. "Go find some medical supplies," she told him. he gave her a worried look, glancing at her leg, the bleeding had slowed but not by much. "Simon, you know me. I'm a forensic anthropologist. I know when something is life threatening. I'll be fine." Simon sighed. He knew he couldn't win against her. He stood and made his way to the door. "Be careful." she said as he reached the door. He looked at her. "You too." and he was gone.

Clary leaned against the desk, listening to what was happening outside. She heard footsteps. They were getting closer, and louder, until they stopped. Silence for a few moments. Unsettling silence. Then she heard Jace's voice. "But I will win," he said, he sounded a little out of breath, and that worried her. "Or die trying." No Jace, she thought to herself. You are not dying for me. Not today. She was about to stand when a pair of hands grabbed her.

She knew who it was and did everything in her power to break free, but with the injured leg and aching bones, it was no use. "Let go of me!" she screamed, kicking her good leg at him. "I told you why I'm doing this. This is for the justice of my daughters death." He said holding the gun to her head. "Jonathan!" he called getting Jace's attention. He turned around rifle ready, he lowered it a little when he saw Clary.

"Let her go Armel." Jace said, raising his rifle once again. Armel chuckled and shook his head. "Either way she dies Jonathan." Armel said. She could see Jace shift nervously with his rifle. She was worried he would give up. Out of the corner of her eye, she saw Simon, with an old musket he retrieved from the museum part of the Institute. Clary shifted her hands and felt the metal form of keys against her wrist. She reached for them, and after failing two times she had them in her hands. "Disait Au revoir Jonathan." Armel said, shirting the gun against her head. Simon took a breath. "Clary move now!" Clary used all her force with her good leg and kicked at Armel's shins, he stumbled back and she fell forward to the ground. Then Simon fired. A cloud of smoke blocked his vision as the musket ball fired Armel, hitting him on his right wrist, knocking the gun to the floor. Jace lowered his rifle and ran at Armel while he was unguarded and Simon made his way to Clary.

Are you okay?" he asked her, taking the keys from her hands. Clary nodded and stood up quickly after her hands were free. "I'm fine." she said, giving Simon a quick hug. "Thank you," he whispered. He nodded. "No problem," he said looking at his musket. "I've always wanted to use this thing." he said with a smile. Clary chuckled, but she was silenced by a gunshot. She whipped her head around to see Jace, on his knees, holding his shoulder, where a red stain was growing on his shirt. Armel was advancing on him, pistol in hand. Clary gasped, turning back to Simon. "Follow me, I've got an idea."

Jace was on his knees, his shoulder bleeding from being shot by Armel, who was advancing on him. Out of the corner of his eye, he saw Clary and Simon running, well, Clary was limping, away. He smiled knowing she would be safe. "C'est dommage," Armel said, reloading his pistol, kicking Jace's rifle away. "I was hoping only one would die tonight, now it looks like two." Jace looked up to face Armel, breathing hard, no matter how much his lungs screamed for him to stop. "You're right." he said. Armel looked confused, but held the gun at Jace's head. "Two people might die tonight. And if they do, it'll be you, and me." He grabbed Armel's shirt with his bloody hand, pulling him down to the ground, giving Jace time to roll to his side and grab his rifle. Armel stumbled a little bit but regained his balance and raised the pistol and aimed at Jace, before Jace oculd even turn around, Armel was pulling the trigger.

But before the bullet left the gun Armel was kicked to the ground, the bullet missing Jace's head by less than an inch. He looked up to see Clary, she had snuck around and kicked Armel over before he could shoot Jace. Armel was reaching for his pistol but Simon ran around the corner and kicked it away from him before grabbing Armel's shirt and punching him in the face, knocking him down. Clary ran, limped, over to Jace, got down on her knees and hugged him. He gripped her tightly, holding her as she let her tears fall. "I'm here," he whispered. "It's okay."

They heard a punch followed by something falling to the floor. Jace opened his eyes to see Simon, laying on the floor, blood on his face and Armel on his feet, with his pistol, aiming it right at them. Clary turned to look and held Jace tighter, trying to protect him. They shut their eyes, waiting for the bullet to hit them. It never did. They heard someone running towards them, then the shot was fired.

Who did the bullet hit?! Wait and see! I'll update asap! In the mean time, just enjoy the story and love cupcakes!
