Evelyn's p.o.v

"Thanks, Emily." I said to Emily Clearwater as she brought me a cup of coffee.

"Sam told me about the meeting today. Was quite a spectacle from what I've heard."

Emily Clearwater, a.k.a. Sam's fiancee, smiled at me as she sat down next to me at the bar.

"Surprised to see you here at this hour. Usually only Billy or the older men swing by for a couple of beers."

"Yes, well, what can I tell you. Even I sometimes feel like an old man." I looked at the cup filled with steaming brown liquid standing in front of me. "Except I don't do beer, but this coffee is very good."

"Well, I for one have missed your presence. Not a lot of girls my age around these parts." Emily sighed as she tapped her finger against her glass. "Leah and I aren't on speaking terms. Well, that is not on proper speaking terms."

"Because of Sam?" I asked.

Emily nodded. "You know what it's like."

"A bit. Though as you may have heard, I'm spoken for as well." I said to her.

"Ah yes, the bloodsucker." She laughed and raised her glass. "To our taste in men."

"Stop it." I laughed at her, while stealing a quick glance of the scar which ran down the side of her face. Last time I'd seen her that wasn't there. Now that I knew about Sam and the pack, it wasn't difficult to deduce where it had come from.

"I'm guessing the bear story was actually more of a red riding hood tale." I carefully said to Emily.

Emily looked taken aback for a moment, but soon regained her previous cool and collected demeanour. "Big bad wolf indeed."

"This whole imprinting thing is beyond me." I took a sip from my coffee. "To think you'll go nuts and feel pain when you can't be with the one you imprint on."

Emily threw me a quizzical look. "Cold ones don't imprint?" I looked at her.

"Cold ones?" I asked.

"That's what we call them." Emily explained, though I kind of figured she meant Jasper and the others.

"I don't know what they call it, but the you-go-nuts and it-actually-hurts part sounds familiar."

"Sam chased me for quite some time and then,-" She stopped. "Well, you know wild wolves." She pointed at her face.

"Ah." I replied, getting the confirmation of my earlier suspicion regarding her scar. "I don't know whether to make a sarcastic comment or apologize."

"You realize I can hear you?" Emily's fiancee said as he walked past our table.

Emily chuckled. "One thing is for sure, I'll never have to cry wolf again."

I nearly choked on my coffee as Emily laughed out loud. I looked at Emily and joined in. This was nice. Aside from the fight I had with Charlie earlier this evening, leaving the house had been a good idea. With the upcoming fight and the possible dangers accompanied by it, letting off some steam in a normal setting was exactly what I needed. I stopped laughing and realized that even if it felt like it, this wasn't considered normal. Here I was sitting in a bar with Emily who was engaged to a man who could transform into a wolf. Our previous conversations had always been about other things, boys, music, drinking and dancing.

"Honestly, I wouldn't have mind living on the reservation. Near the water and the trees. The peace and quiet, even those wolves might be a welcome sight."

"We'd welcome you with open arms. Just say the word and I'll fix you up with a nice cabin." Sam shouted from the pooltable.

"Mmm, I can imagine it right now." I said as I leaned back and strechted out.

"And what about you?" Emily suddenly asked.

"What about me?" I replied. Emily raised her hand and pointed at my neck.

"That."

She referred to the stitches in my neck. "That looks like quite the love tap."

Instinctively I touched the stitches for a moment. "It wasn't. Got it from an uninvited guest who, if he knows what's good for him, never shows his face in Forks again."

"I guess there are assholes everywhere, no matter who or what they are." Emily concluded before taking another swig from her beer.

"A dangerous world we live in." I added.

"And non mystical beings like you and me can't do anything about it." Emily placed her empty glass on the table. Non mystical. But that wasn't entirely true. Bella had some form of power, even Alice ad a power before she became a vampire not to mention myself included. I paused to think for a moment. Everyone would be busy focusing on the fight except for me, Bella and two of the wolves. What if that wasn't enough? What if we were the perfect target, what if Alice hadn't been able to see all of the newborns? After a couple of minutes I pushed my chair back and stood up.

Emily tilted her head. "You okay?"

"Yeah, I think so. I need to make a phone call for a moment, I'll be right back."

I headed outside grabbing my phone in the meantime ready to dial when I noticed multiple missed calls. Bella, Charlie, Jasper, the Cullen residence. Not to mention some text messages as well. I sighed, knowing fully well it was expected of me to inform at least someone on my whereabouts. Something which never would have been necessary a few months ago. I started reading the texts before deciding on making the phone call.

*Text 1*

Uncle Charlie:

'Evelyn swan, where are you? When you get back here, we are going to have a serious talk.'

Well, that was to be expected. I deleted the message and continued.

*Text 2*

Isabella:

'Eve where are you? Dad is srry. Did you go to Jasper? Lemme know before I call them.'

That probably explains why I had a missed call from the Cullens.

*Text 3*

Uncle Charlie:

'I called Bill, he told me you came by the reservation and are at the bar where Emily works. Let me know when you get home. Also you are no longer grounded.'

I frowned after reading that message. Could it be Bill talked some sense into uncle Charlie after I'd gone to pick up Emily at the reservation.

*Text 4*

Isabella:

'Alice called me, she couldn't see you anymore. I told her where you are. Jasper's on his way to you.'

That was the last text, sent about ten minutes ago. Great. I felt frustrated. Not because Jasper was on his way, but because it was simply impossible for me to be anywhere without a chaperone. I deleted all of the messages and ignored the missed calls and dialed the Cullen residence. Almost immediately the phone was picked up.

"Evelyn?" The sound of Esme's voice was soothing even through the telephone.

"Yes, it's me." I replied suddenly feeling a pang of guilt. "Is Carlisle there? There is something I'd like to discuss with the both of you. In private. Tomorrow morning, if that's possible?"

"Of course, dear. I'm sure that's possible. Though Carlisle isn't here at the moment." She told me.

I frowned, Carlisle not home? "I'm almost afraid to ask, but he wouldn't be with Jasper currently, would he?"

Before Esme could answer a pair of headlights blinked in my direction. The car hadn't even fully stopped yet but Jasper had already gotten out. "Never mind, my question just got answered."

"Tell them I said hello." Esme said before hanging up.

Jasper appeared in front of me, a bit disheveled but I couldn't tell if his look indicated that he was angry with me or worried. If it had been me in his position it would have been both.

"Evy." He breathed. "What,- why,-"

"Okay, listen." I started as I tucked my phone away. "Before you yell,-"

"Yell?" Jasper exclaimed sounding more surprised than angry. "I was at home, reading and all of a sudden I hear Alice frantically yelling through the house 'Call Bella! I can't see Evelyn!' You realize what that means? Do you know what that did to me?"

Normally, no. I mean not seeing someone doesn't mean dead, but as it was Alice who yelled this it must have had some different type of meaning.

"What do you mean with Alice couldn't see me? I was just having a drink with a friend." I replied.

"It means that, she can't see you. If Alice can't see you, your future or any future with you, it means you're dead." Jasper explained, he ran his hand through his wavy golden hair. "Darnit, Evelyn. I thought you were dead." He lowered his arm and reached out to me.

"I'm fine, Jazz." I whispered as I grabbed his outstrechted hand and let him pull me close. "Nothing can keep me from you. Never believe I'm dead until you have actually seen my body, alright?"

"Don't say that." Jasper said softly with a deep husky voice. "I don't ever want to go through that."

"Ahem." Carlisle cleared his throat. Jasper and I both looked up at the eldest Cullen. "Not to be a spoilsport but perhaps it might be a good idea to head back and calm everyone down?"

"Actually I just got off the phone with Esme as you pulled up. She knows you've found me." I told him.

Carlisle nodded. "Great, saves me the trouble of calming everyone. Shall we go?"

"Let me grab my coat and say goodbye to Emily." I stepped back from Jasper and headed inside. Emily was still seated at the bar where I'd left her.

"Hey." She said as I approached her. "Long call, you alright?"

"Actually, I have to go. Jasper and his father showed up, worried about me because I'd left uncle Charlie's house after my argument with him."

"Ah. Oh well, I'll just finish this beer myself and call it a night. I'm sure Sam wouldn't mind spending the rest of the evening alone with me, considering tomorrow's upcoming event."

I smiled at her thankfully and gave her a quick hug before grabbing my coat and leaving the bar. Carlisle and Jasper were already at the car when I came back outside. I got into the backseat along with Jasper. As Carlisle started the car I asked them how it was possible that Alice couldn't see me.

Carlisle looked at me through the rearview mirror. "Well, as you know the people at the reservation are shapeshifters. It's impossible for Alice to read their future or if they decided on something which included your future."

"So because I was out with people from the resevation, Alice suddenly couldn't see me anymore?"

"She only said she didn't see your future anymore. Practically yelled it throughout the house." Jasper said. "Obviously Carlisle and I immediately left to go to Bella. By the time we were in the car Alice called me and told us she'd already called Bella and was informed where you were."

I sighed deeply and leaned back as a minor headache started to spread across my forehead. "If I'd known leaving uncle Charlie's house would cause such an upheaval I would have gone upstairs instead of the bar." I glanced sideways to Jasper who smiled at me, something I had not been expecting.

"You didn't know. Besides if something would have happened, at least you were with people strong enough to protect you." He replied referring to Sam. "Though I can't help but feel sad you didn't come to me after your argument with Charlie."

A pang hit my heart. Though I had every right to go wherever I wanted, I fully understood how Jasper was feeling right now. I could feel it. "I'm sorry, Jazz. I needed to feel 'normal' again. Even if it was only for a couple of hours."

Jasper nodded and leaned in. His lips gently touched mine, cold and hard but the feeling they caused inside me was anything but cold.

The next day

Coming home last night wasn't bad. Uncle Charlie apologized, I apologized and we went our way from there. Sometimes fighting becomes easier when you're an adult. The conversations are different and you let the other person usually finish their part of the story. I'm glad we solved our argument because today was the day Bella would head up to the mountain with Edward. Unbelievably she had managed to convince him to join here even if it wasn't the original plan. But after last night the Cullens were spooked. Alice mainly, too many things were happening and she couldnt focus on all the changes, therefore for safety Edward agreed with Bella's suggestion of joining her.

Last night I had planned to discuss something with Esme and Carlisle, today was as good of a time as any to continue that idea. I packed my bag ready for our weekend with the Cullens, to which Charlie no longer objected to, but I was leaving earlier. Before Bella, before Alice would come here to pick us up. In the back of my mind I realized that perhaps Alice was already aware what I was planning, but with everyone being focused on today perhaps she wasn't . It was a risk I needed to take. Just in case. I wanted to know if my idea was a good one. I was pretty sure that it was, but I couldn't ask Jasper. His feelings could cloud his judgment.

I parked the car on the Cullen's driveway. Carlisle and Esme were already standing outside, waiting for me. With a lump in my throat I got out of the car, greeted them and we headed inside. Esme escorted me into the living room and sat down next to me on the couch.

"We send the others on a hunt. What is it you're troubled with?" Esme asked with a worried look.

I took a deep breath. "I'm worried about the fight. Bella on the mountain tonight, me there tomorrow."

Esme looked at her husband and then back to me," We all are, sweetheart. It's going to be dangerous, but you don't have to worry about Jasper or about the rest of us. We will be safe. We know what we are doing."

"You and Bella will be safe too, there is Edward to protect you and two wolves from Sam's pack." Carlisle added. "The young ones will be focused on us and the wolf scent will steer them away from you two."

"What if Victoria appears?" I asked them and the two of them exchanged a quick glance between them.

Carlisle shook his head. "Alice is keeping an eye out for Victoria. If she was here Alice would see it."

I shook my head. "Not to dismay Alice's clairvoyance gift, but she can't see everything all the time. How many things is she watching? Victoria, the Volturi, the newborn army and Bella? Perhaps even,-" I paused.

Esme was about to say something but Carlisle hushed her. "You're thinking about Demetri?"

I gave a light nod. "It's a huge army and we know they are after Bella, but so is Victoria. Demetri doesn't seem like the type to stay away for a long time."

"Love, I think she has a point." Esme said to Carlisle.

"What are you suggesting, Evie?" Carlisle asked me with a frown.

This was it. The moment I was waiting for. Would I have the guts to ask, to even go through with it? I looked deeply into Carlisle's eyes.

"I want to ask you to turn me."

No response. Esme and Carlisle silently exchanged looks again. As if they were talking telepathically. But that was Edward's forte.

"Please say something."

Esme grabbed my hands. "If you want to become one of us, you have my blessing." She smiled and gently touched my cheek with her cold hand. "You are our family just like Bella." She paused.

"But?" I asked.

"But now wouldn't be a good idea, Evie." Carlisle said. "I agree it would be very handy to have a newborn on our side and one less human to worry about, even with you up on that mountain."

"Then why is my idea not a good idea?" I argued. "Demetri wants me turned! If I am already a vampire he can't get to me."

"We don't know that for sure, plus you'll be out of control." Esme told me. "We told you newborns want is blood. Every newborn goes through a craze faze, as I call it. You could hurt all of those that you love just to fulfill your thirst. What if you attack Bella?"

That was something I haven't thought of yet. I thought the plan would be flawless.

"You could lose yourself. The Evelyn you are now wouldn't be the same Evelyn when you are a newborn." Carlisle continued.

"But you are going to change Bella too sooner or later." I countered.

Carlisle nodded. "Yes, but unlike you Bella has been thinking about it and mentally preparing herself for a longer time."

And that was it, I just knew it. There was no way any of them were going to turn me in order for me to be of some help.

"I don't want to be on the side-line. There is no way I can convince you?" I looked at Carlisle.

"No, and I know you won't try to convince us the way you are able to convince people. If you know what I mean." Carlisle actually smirked.

I sighed but understood what he meant. They were right, I'm glad I asked them before doing something stupid, as Jasper would have called it.

Esme's eyes turned to the windows. "It looks like the kids are coming home."

I turned my head and saw four figures running past the house. They were going so fast they looked like smudges on a painting. Before they came inside I thanked Esme and Carlisle for hearing me out. Carlisle nodded, and Esme hugged me, at that point the other Cullens walked inside. Surprised to see me, Jasper immediately walked over and lifted me into his arms, pressing his face against my hair.

"Darlin'." He whispered in my ear sending shivers down my spine.

"Where's Bella?" Edward asked me.

I ran my hand through my hair. "I came early. She's still home."

"Why did you come here all alone?" Jasper frowned.

I nodded to Carlisle and Esme. " I came here to have a talk with them."

The confused look in Jasper's eye told me it was time to let him know about my plan. Without saying anything to the others I pulled Jasper with me towards the stairs and up to his room.

Before we entered Jasper turned me around. "Tell me."

I looked up at him. "I asked Carlisle and Esme to change me."

"You wanted to be changed? Darlin', you're kidding. You wanted to be turned right now? Why did you not discuss this with me?" He sounded so hurt.

"I'm so sorry, but I wanted to be helpful. I thought if I got turned then you wouldn't have to worry about me being hurt by anyone, such as Demetri." I said to Jasper as he flinched at the mention of that name. "Plus the thought of me being able to fight by your side."

Jasper used his thumb to gently wipe the tears away from my eyes. I hadn't even realized I was crying.
"Can you forgive me for not telling you?" I asked him quietly.

He sighed deeply, his forehead calmly resting against mine. "I would be a real fool if I didn't."

I smiled at Jasper as he caressed my hair.
"let's go." He said.

Jasper's p.o.v

I took Evelyn into my room. The room was a new room I'd built along with Emmett and Edward, because of my history with Alice. The room she has used to be ours and once she had a vision of my true mate I decided to move out. As I opened the door and let Evy in, I could hear her heart starting to beat faster. This happened every time when she crossed the treshold. With a smirk on my face I closed the door behind me.

"Jazz, I,-" She started but I didn't let her finish. I knew what she was going to say. But I'd heard enough apologies for one day. My index finger rested on her soft lips.
"Hush Evie."

I grabbed her hands and sat down on my bed. A king sized, four poster canopy bed made out of dark wood. Evelyn let one of her hands caress the soft fabric of the blanket. She looked at me with those lovely dark blue eyes that sparkled like a diamond.

I couldn't believe what she had just told me. She wanted to change, to become one of us. Sure her main reason was to help and protect me and Bella from harm. Did this mean she still wants to be changed eventually? As soon as she had said she came here to be changed I felt all aglow.

"Something is troubling you?" Evelyn asked.

"Since when are you an empath, Darlin'?" I smiled at my loved one. Evie leaned back against the head board, her lovely scent tickled my senses.

"I don't need to be an empath to sense that you're worried about something. Do you think I'm making this choice to quickly? Or that I didn't consult you first?"

I crawled over to her and lay down on my side next to her. "Maybe both, you do realize what is you're giving up?"

I could tell she wasn't completely sure of her decision, if she wasn't why was she making this choice? "You're not sure, are you?"

"I'm not, but I can't help it. I want to make a choice. It doesn't matter when I make a choice as it will happen anyway."

I frowned. "How do you mean, Darlin'?"

"Alice took the liberty of peeking into my future, and she saw me as one of you." Evie took a deep breath. "But it hadn't been because I made the choice."

"Who.?" I asked calmly. "Me?"

Evie bit her lip and she got nervous suddenly. "Don't get mad."

Somehow I knew her saying that wouldn't stop me from doing so.

"It was Demetri." She said carefully. It didn't matter she said it with caution, it was pointless.

My hand formed a fist as I jumped from the bed and walked away to the other side of the room.
Darn this! I know he wanted my mate for the Volturi, but why is he so after her. Was she his target that he just had to get? Just like James, once a tracker has his prey in sight they rarely let go.

Suddenly I wasn't so sure anymore that Evie would be safe. Suddenly the image of Demetri still being around popped up in my head. Maybe I should sit out on the fight. Who better to protect Evie than me, her mate? I couldn't let Edward take care of her again. I felt two arms wrapping themselves from behind around my waist.
Evie.

"Nothing will happen. Remember, I've got two dogs as my bodyguards." She said with a hint of enjoyment.

"I should be with you. I want to be with you." I whispered.

"We both know that is not an option, even though I want you near me too." She admitted.

I turned around, faced my mate and gently I lifted her face by her chin. "Should Demetri appear. I'll be there. I'll get to you! And I'll get him before he gets his filthy hands on you."

Sending a wave of my love for her, I fiercely kissed her lips.

"I won't let him take you from me again." I growled against her mouth. We moved to the bed and I carefully laid her on her back. She had a certain look in her eye, and I knew I had to be careful before my own lust would take control of me.

"Do you think we could?" She quietly asked me, and I knew immediately what she was talking about.

I wasn't sure if we could. "I'm not sure." I honestly replied. "I'm strong, Evie."

I mean Evelyn was a strong mentally speaking, but when it came to human strength, I would be able to snap her like a twig.

"Did Bella and Edward ever,-?"

I grinned at this. "Probably not. Edward has made some clear points on that. He is quite old-fashioned."

Evie blinked not really understanding what I meant. I was starting to wonder if she knew Edward and Bella were to be married.

"He wants to wait." I said. "Until they're married."

"Aha, well I guess I can understand. I wonder if Bella can wait." She said with a giggle.

"Darlin', with all due respect, but I don't want to discuss Edward and Bella's love life." I smiled. "I'm more interested in us."

I pressed my lips against hers and slowly pressed my tongue into her mouth. Evie moaned softly before pulling back.
"Jazz?" She spoke.

I opened my eyes and stared into hers.

"Would you? I mean, do you want to wait?"

She was actually blushing, I couldn't help but smile. Her red cheeks on her light skin and the fast paced beating of her heart. I couldn't help but wanting to scream out no.
"As the Gentleman that my father raised me to be. I'm here to obey your wish, ma'am."

Evie laughed. I grabbed her hand and started kissing the palm of her hand. Then I honestly told her. "I want to wait. I don't want to rush into things because of the situation we're in right now. Besides, who knows what I might do to you if it becomes too much?"

Evie nodded. "Then I want you to hold me tight." She said.

"When Edward and Bella are gone tonight, I'll hold you in my arms during the entire night."

"I can't wait for that, I'll enjoy every minute of it. Like I'm doing now." Evie rested her head against my chest as I closed my eyes and just let my mind wander in this moment of bliss.
