Will Riku beat the clock and save Penelope or will Zia and Saki's prophecy be right?

Chapter 20: Fixable Fate? Pt. 2

Riku watched Penelope nervously, as she seemed unusually shaky and nervous like she didn't want to even be at the dance.

"Riku. Pay attention to me! We have to be the best couple so we can win. Of course you will win since pretty much all the girls fawn over you, but I can't let that little bitch win again!"

"And who's the bitch?" Riku questioned.

Jo Dee took offense to this. "Why Penelope of course! She's the wretch who one last time."

Riku narrowed his eyes.

"She's not a wretch. I still love her."

Jo Dee gasped. "You what?! She's poisoned your mind, hasn't she?"

"You're being a hypocrite."

"Me? A hypocrite? What's wrong with you?"

Riku smirked. "Nothing. You are what's wrong."

Jo Dee death glared Penelope and when she caught eye contact, she covered her eyes and began shaking to death, making Joshua glare back at Jo Dee.

Jo Dee turned back to Riku.

"I forgive you for what you said. I cannot wait to win my crown."

"Ah. As if its rightfully yours."

Jo Dee stared at Riku. "Listen Ri-Ri. We have to be the model couple! We won't win if we don't."

Riku sighed before growling, "All that matters to you is WINNING isn't it? You just want the glory, the fame and the wealth, and to trample those in your way."

Jo Dee frowned at Riku and as they passed by Penelope again, Jo Dee did one terrible thing to try breaking her even more. She suddenly kissed Riku on the lips right in front of Penelope, breaking her last bit of hope, and making Joshua put his head on the table.

Riku felt pain in his heart as he saw how hurt Penelope was. He was about to punch Jo Dee, but he couldn't do a thing. He death glared Jo Dee before snarling, "Kiss me in front of her one more time, and I'll break your neck."

Jo Dee pouted at Riku. "You're so mean Riku. You don't love me?"

Riku's expression answered her question.

"Ah well. At least you're still stuck with me until the end of this dance."

Riku groaned. He hated this so much.

(Penelope's POV)

Why?! Why is he trying to put me through hell? He knows how weak I am, but he's now just shoving it in my face.

I'm much more fragile than I have ever been in my life. All this stupid High School Drama has critically screwed me up in the head! And it's all his and the She-Devil's fault!

He, that despicable son-of-a-bitch (his mother is nice, but HE is just…ugh!), Riku, has gone too far this time. I am pretty much so past the breaking point that I cannot and I mean CANNOT tell if my heart is still there or not. SERIOUSLY. THE AREA WHERE MY HEART IS SUPPOSED TO BE HURTS LIKE HELL RIGHT NOW AND IT ISN'T EVEN HEARTBURN!

I'm starting to wish Riku and I never met. All he's done to me now is make me go through major pain and suffering.

I don't even care how hard he's trying to get my trust back. I HATE HIM!

I don't want to go through this pain anymore. I have to end this soon.

"Penelope."

I look at Joshua. "Yeah?"

"Are you alright?"

"No."

"Sorry about what happened. I tried to fix him, but it's too late."

"It's fine. That asshole can go burn in hell if I cared."

(Nobody's POV)

Joshua was slightly taken aback by how hostile Penelope was now acting about Riku, but he couldn't blame her.

"And if I had the option to either shoot myself of be in a relationship with him again, I'd pick shooting myself."

Joshua frowned. "Now you're getting ridiculous. You'd rather take your life?"

"Yes."

Joshua froze. "Just how mentally unstable have you become?"

"I haven't become mentally unstable. I've been broken. It's all thanks to him. If he didn't make false accusations, none of this would have ever happened!"

Then it came to a point where there was socialization. "Hey Ri-Ri. I'm going to talk with my friends. Are you going to join?"

"Nah. I need to fix something."

"Kay. See you in a bit, babe."

Jo Dee walked off and Riku felt relieved. Then he gulped before walking to Penelope's table.

"Um…hey Penelope. Sorry about…"

"What the hell do you want?"

Riku was taken aback. He caught Penelope's gaze. Penelope wasn't wearing glasses like usual and she was kind of (?) being her old self, but was acting unusually hostile.

"What's up with you?"

Penelope stood up. "You."

Riku looked at Joshua and his expression said, "You really need to walk away before it gets violent."

"Excuse me? What do you mean I'm what's wrong?"

"You know you idiotic son of a bitch. Quit acting stupid and go back to your little girlfriend."

Riku blinked. "Why the hell are you being all bitchy at me now when I did nothing wrong?!"

Then there was a loud noise of someone getting smacked.

The room went silent.

Penelope drew her hand away from Riku's face, her eyes now a bright purple.

Riku was now pissed. "What the hell was that?! You don't just smack people!"

Penelope smacked Riku again. "Shut it and quit whining. Get the hell out of my sight."

"No."

Penelope was annoyed. "Alright then. I guess I'll leave now."

"NO."

Penelope glared at Riku. "You are not the boss of me, Riku."

Then Penelope turned away and began to leave until something gripped her on the arm and forcefully turned her around. Then she saw Riku's face. His expression looked like it was saying he was going to kill her if she took a step away from him. When he released her, Penelope's eyes went from a fierce violet to a scared brown. She began to back up slowly and Riku took a step toward her. It was like that day but worse.

Penelope hit a wall again and was scared as Riku approached her. Upon reached her, Riku pinned Penelope against the wall and she then saw his eyes. They looked so angry, that Penelope felt like she just couldn't look any longer or she felt like she'd die on spot.

"Penelope."

Penelope tried to ignore him and turn away but she then heard an enraged, "Look at me when I am talking to you!"

Penelope looked at Riku, now trembling to death in fear.

"Y-Y-Yes?"

"I can't believe you. I tried hard to help you, to gain back your trust, and in return, you are acting like a bitch!"

Penelope tried to look down.

"I was originally going to break up with Jo Dee tonight so I could be with you again, but now, there's no point! I guess you've proven Jo Dee is much more well mannered than you, you little ungrateful bitch! Now get out, and don't even look at me if you don't want what's coming to you."

Riku released Penelope and she didn't even look at him as she ran as fast as she could, away from Riku, and from everyone else.

Joshua, in panic, ran out of the room after her.

That was when Riku realized what he had just done.

Then he heard an angry voice behind him.

"You…you monster! Look what mess you've made now! I can't believe you'd go that far to hurt her in the state she's tried to recover from, but now, she can never come back from it thanks to you and your horrible girlfriend who's no better than a heartless!" Riku turned to see an angry Xion.

"I can't believe I just…"

Xion suddenly smacked Riku before viciously saying, "You go win your crown with that wretch! I'm going to go find my friend, or at least leave."

Xion stormed off in anger, with Ventus trailing behind. Vanitas had followed, leaving his date in the crowd.

Jo Dee strutted up to Riku. "Good job Riku! You showed her."

Riku glared at Jo Dee. "This is all your fault, Jo Dee! I didn't do anything good out of this."

"But still. Now its time for the Crowning Ceremony!"

Riku gulped. He waited in the newly formed crowd with Jo Dee, looking at the door every once in a while to see if Penelope came back. Then Roselyynn announced the results.

"Ahem. The results are in! It's pretty obvious who the King is, and of course, it's Riku!"

There was cheering from his fangirls as Riku went onstage, and when he stood next to Roselyynn, he heard her whisper, "Good job on breaking Penelope's heart, jackass."

Then she announced the Queen, whom when she said this, she didn't sound very happy.

"And the Queen is…Jo Dee. Oh joy."

There was massive amounts of cheering as Jo Dee came onstage, being a showoff. Roselyynn frowned at her presence.

"Do you two have anything to say?"

Riku noticed Penelope through the door, still shaky. Jo Dee saw this and said, "I do have something to say."

Jo Dee cleared her throat. "I'm glad that Riku and I won and we got our rightful places as the King and Queen of the dance floor. Now, the placing was correct for Riku last time, but there was a mistake for the Queen, and hopefully, it will never happen again, because Miss Penelope Bunny, shouldn't be wearing a crown, because she is merely a reject who wants attention but cannot get any considering she might be the reason what is wrong with the world and she doesn't belong at a high class school like this, merely because she never was meant to come here or exist in the first place. Now do you know your place, Penelope? And didn't my dear Riku say to stay out of his sight?"

Riku noticed that Penelope was quiet and the sound of the door being slammed echoed through the room.

"Wow Jo Dee, you really know how to act like a complete bitch in front of your audience just to insult a single person." Roselyynn stated. Riku handed Roselyynn his crown. "Sorry, but, I don't feel as if it is right for me to be the King when Penelope isn't with me. And also, Jo Dee? For the past few weeks, I've wanted to tell you this, and now that this dance that was absolute hell because of you is over, here is what I have to say. We are done!"

Jo Dee blinked. "Excuse me?"

"Sorry Dee, but, I am breaking up with you. Now, if you excuse me, I am going to find Penelope or else she might do something really bad to herself."

Then Riku ran out of the room, away from Jo Dee to find Penelope.

(20 minutes later)

(Destiny Islands- Play Island-Secret Place)

Penelope silently entered the secret place, her eyes puffy and her face red from all the tears. She couldn't bear this pain anymore.

She fell on her knees, but struggled standing up.

"This pain…It hurts…But then…I deserve it, don't I? I'm a horrible person. I don't deserve living to know that all I do is cause people pain." Penelope thought to herself.

"You don't, Penelope! Why can't you realize that?!" Penelope heard Zia cry.

Penelope weakly chuckled. "It's no use. No matter how hard I try, it's impossible for me to make anyone happy. I've made a mess that's impossible to clean up."

"It's not impossible! You haven't tried to clean up your mess, but the mess doesn't exist!"

Penelope smiled. "It's no use…I have to end this pain, for the better of myself and everyone else."

Penelope summoned Oathkeeper, pointing it at her heart. "I will now finish what I've started."

Penelope slowly began to put the blade closer and closer to her heart, which fought to get her to stop, but it was pointless.

The blade went through her heart and Penelope dropped the blade, its sound of clattering against the floor echoing through the room, knowing she couldn't go back. She smiled as she collapsed, hoping of having a sleep she couldn't wake up from.

(Around the same time)

Riku had reached the Secret Place around the same time Joshua did. Now, Joshua wasn't exactly happy to see Riku, but was trying to find Penelope.

And then the two ended up arguing until they heard a noise of something clattering from nearby.

"What was that?"

Joshua went to check and then Riku heard a gasp.

"Hey, what's…?"

As Riku entered the room, he realized quickly why Joshua had gasped. There, he saw Penelope, sprawled onto the floor, with a smile on her face. Riku saw Penelope's Keyblade on the floor and he froze.

"No…it's too late…"

Joshua checked her pulse. "Hmm…"

"What is it?! Penelope just killed herself! How can you be so…"

"Idiot. She isn't dead and her pulse is still active. She didn't kill herself, but she put herself into a coma."

"Another coma? But why?"

"I'm unsure, but this must've been the "fate" Zia was talking about."

"It's my fault this happened."

Joshua slapped Riku.

"Ow! Seriously! I've been slapped three other times today! You didn't have to hit me though! And it is my fault."

Joshua slapped Riku before hitting him on the head with his cell phone.

"Why are you blaming yourself, you idiot?"

"I'm not an idiot!" Riku growled back.

Joshua frowned at Riku. "Don't you dare take that tone with me? Especially in front of Penelope."

Riku hesitated from punching Joshua, but decided against it.

"Riku, don't blame yourself again. It's my fault for getting you involved." Riku saw Zia in a fancy gown and Narrator in a white jacket and matching pants in a orange red shirt. (He still knows neither of their names.)

"Still, I feel bad I couldn't help her."

"Don't be. She's been in a state of depression for a while, so I can't blame her for attempting this even though it is impossible for her to kill herself considering her heart is a scale."

"What?"

"Please don't mind me, but we should get her back to her dorm."

"Right."

As Riku picked Penelope up and began to carry her back to her dorm with Joshua, Narrator and Zia, he felt grief for what he said.

(A/N: Part of the reason you all might hate me. I never said there would be a happy ending.

But first.

DON'T KILL ME FOR IT. I BEGAN CRYING DURING THIS CHAPTER!

Please don't flame me for the sad ending of this part. Also, with the whole RikuxPenelope thing.

Because of what happened in this chapter, the two will remain divided until Junior Year (which is the next part and it is coming up quickly).

Also, to keep in mind, I had intended to keep this sad, because it can be hard to change the future when you don't know what will happen unless you are a person named Shulk who can see the future with his Monado.

YES I REFERENCED XENOBLADE CHRONICLES. I COULDN'T HELP IT.

And if the chapter were happier, then I wouldn't be developing Penelope or Riku's character and it wouldn't work out. I also originally had planned for this major event to happen in Chapter 9, but decided against it because I felt it would be too early in the story.

I also know that suicide is a serious thing, but I didn't let Penelope be able to die, because then the point of the story would be ruined and I'd be giving you all a sad ending like Drosselmeyer in Princess Tutu.

I don't want to be flamed for what Penelope did either.

I felt as if it were really important to develop Penelope as well as Riku's character.
