April and Jackson both walked into the little office where the social worker was waiting on them, ''so, how do we go about this?'' Jackson asked the social worker who had called them in there.
"Well first we start off with you two legally being his foster parents. It's the first step towards adoption. The only difference is you will have home visits every three weeks."

Jackson and April looked at each for a moment and then nodded in agreement, ''how long until we can officially adopt him?'' Jackson asked. He felt nervous but excited this was finally happening.
''Depending on the international adoption process, maybe 9-12 months. All you'll need to do is sign these consent forms and then we'll talk to Finn. Alright?"

Jackson nodded and he and April were given the forms to sign, there were quite a few to go through but they finished in record time, both eager to talk to Finn. Finally be able to tell him that they'd bring him to home to America.

"So... I think Finn's asleep. You tired?" April asked Jackson as she climbed into bed next to him. He was busy on his laptop.
Jackson smiled at her, ''tired?'' He asked her. ''I'm still way too excited that we got to bring Finn home today.'' He grinned at her as he shut down his laptop and put it away. '''Why do you ask?'' He asked suggestively.

"Because I know how hard it's been these past few days, when we get to bed we are so tired we barely get a chance to see each other... And I was thinking, we could have some quality time, just the two of us.'' She slowly got on top of him. ''What do you think?"
Jackson pulled her closer to him, ''count me in,'' he told her before brushing his lips against hers.

April giggled as the kisses intensified. "God I've missed this,'' she said breathlessly.
''Me too,'' Jackson told her in between kisses. They both pulled away when in the distance they heard a beeper going off. Jackson groaned in frustration, ''seriously?'' He muttered.

April went into the hallway and checked both their pagers before walking back into the bedroom, as she started to get dressed she answered Jackson, "greeat! One of my patients is having shortness of breath. J, I have to go in. I'm so sorry. Can I make it up to you?"
Jackson forced a smile. Patients always had to come first, that was the way it had always been and he didn't blame her for this particular night not going to way they had planned, ''you can make it up to me in the morning, if I don't get paged away then,'' he told her.

"Deal! Are you sure you and Finn will be okay? I hate to leave him like this."
''We'll be fine,'' Jackson said. ''I'll look after him; you just make sure your patient lives through the night. Don't worry about anything else.''

"You know you in dad mode is pretty hot." She gave him one last kiss before heading to the hallway to get her coat.

It was almost three hours when Jackson woke up at the sound of their bedroom door opening. He snapped on the light on the bedside table and saw Finn standing in the door opening. ''Hey little man, what are you doing up?''
"I had a bad dream. "Where...where's April?" He asked on the verge of tears.

Jackson got out of bed and walked over to Finn, crouching down to his eye level. ''Sweetie, April isn't here right now. She had to go to work,'' he told him, not sure about what to do. He had been reading parenting books but wasn't prepared for this. Seeing the tears in Finn's eyes he pulled him in for a hug.

"When will she be home? She usually snuggles with me. She has been anyway.''
Jackson bit his lip, ''I'm sure she'll come home as soon as she possibly can to see you,'' he assured the boy. ''Do you want to snuggle with me in the meantime?'' He asked as he wiped away a few of the tears on Finn's cheeks.

"No, can I stay up and wait for her? I really miss her."
''Sweetie, I think it would be better if you get some sleep. April will be here when you wake up and she'll give you all the snuggles you want,'' Jackson told Finn. ''Look, why don't you sleep in here tonight? You'll feel safer here.''

"I guess," Finn said as he struggled to climb into the bed.

"J? I'm home how'd everything..." April started to ask as she walked in the door, before she could finish Jackson motioned for her to quiet down. He'd just gotten Finn to sleep just 30 minutes earlier. It was now 6 AM.
''Shh,'' Jackson told her before letting out something between a yawn and a sigh. ''It could've gone better,'' he informed her before plopping down on the couch in exhaustion.

"Has he been awake all night? Jackson you know we need to keep him on a tight schedule-" before she could finish he cut her off in frustration.
''I know he needs to sleep, and he was... But then he had a nightmare and he started to cry and he didn't want to go back to sleep without you being there with him to protect him. He was pretty upset and he only fell back to sleep a half hour ago,'' Jackson told her as he rubbed his eyes, trying to wake himself up a bit more.

"Okay okay I'm sorry. Why don't you go back to sleep and I'll watch him,'' she picked him up cautiously trying not to wake him up. "I'm going to take him back to his room and sit with him for a while.''
Jackson eyed the bed for a second before shaking his head, ''I'm up now anyway, if I go to sleep now I'll be out on until Christmas. It's better if I just go do something productive. You hungry? I can make breakfast for us two and maybe we can continue where we left off last night before he wakes up again,'' Jackson told her quietly but suggestively as he followed her into Finn's bedroom.

"I guess I do owe you don't I?" She asked eyeing him suggestively.
''I guess you kind of do,'' he told her as they went back into the hallway and he pulled her close to him.

"Shh. You have to promise to be quiet or we'll wake him." She giggled while still in his embrace.

Jackson glanced over at April who was lying next to him, ''that was... great,'' he told her. He couldn't lie to himself, it had certainly been different from usual to him, and he knew why, he just hoped she hadn't noticed.
"Jackson can I ask you a question?" April chose her next words very carefully.

Jackson took a deep breath, ''sure, hon.'' He told her as he averted his gaze back to the ceiling.
"Are you... Am I... You're not attracted to me anymore, are you?" She knew she was being completely irrational. It was just this was the first time she ever had to... Fake anything while being with him.

Jackson looked over at her, ''honey, April, no offense but that's crazy!'' He told her as he got a bit closer to her and put his arm around her. ''You know that I think you're the most beautiful woman on this planet, and nothing will ever change that.''
"Then what happened? I mean I'm not saying it's perfect, but this is not our sex life. What am I not doing?'' April asked, assuming the problem was her when the real problem had nothing to do with sex at all.

''Honey, it has nothing to do with what you are or are not doing. I just didn't have my head in the game. I was worried about Finnley not liking me and it just distracted me from what we were doing,'' Jackson admitted to her as he rolled back onto his back. ''I'm sorry.''

"Jackson we just got home two days ago, and we've only been living with Finn for 5 days. He'll get used to you. There's no reason to worry. Tell me what happened last night?"
''A few hours after you left I woke up because he came into our bedroom. He was crying so I asked him what was wrong, he told me he had had a bad dream and that he wanted to see you. I told him that you were at work and he said that he wanted to see you and snuggle with you, and that he missed you. He just doesn't respond to me that well, like he's trying to keep his distance or something,'' Jackson said before looking over at April.

"Honey, I'm sure that's not true. He's just not used to you yet. Why don't you let him hang with you at the hospital if you have a light day? I can hang out nearby but I wouldn't necessarily be with you guys, what do you think?"
Jackson bit his lip for a second, ''I guess that would help,'' he told her. He swallowed hard, ''I'm just afraid that he'll never really see me as his dad. Am I being crazy?

"No... You're anything but crazy. He just needs time J. Give him that okay?" April snuggled next to him. ''Just as she was about to kiss him again, she heard Finn's voice.
''April, you're home!'' Finnley said excited as he half walked half ran into their room and jumped onto the bed.

"Honey! Remember what I said about knocking first?!'' April tried carefully not to scold him. ''Go to your room and I'll help you get dressed in a second okay? How would you feel about going to work with Jackson today?"
Finnley looked at her a bit reluctant, ''okay,'' he told her, not sounding very enthusiastic, before turning around and going back to his own bedroom.

Jackson looked over to April, ''did you hear that?'' He asked her as laid back down a bit more, ''this is never going to work.''
"Of course it is! We can do this. You're going to be a great father. Do you understand me?" April was completely serious as she looked into his eyes.

Jackson pursed his lips, ''well, maybe the next kid we adopt will like me,'' he told her.
