Missing Each Other Over Time

A few weeks had passed since Michiru and the team had left a pregnant Sango with Michiru's family. Kohaku spent most of his time volunteering at the zoo looking in awe at all kinds of animals that roamed the world unknown to him, Kanna was homeschooled by Mr. and Mrs. Kururugi, while Sango spend most of her free time in the gardens tending the flowerbeds. But Sango barely had free time on her hands being a mother of three and soon to be four.

"Four children." Sango sighed to herself as she planted a beautiful begonia in the rich earth soil of the Kururugi garden. Letting out a small chuckle, Sango thought began to drift away back to a time when shortly after she had officially declared her love for Michiru. She had caught him talking in his sleep dreaming about himself and her. Sango let out another sigh as she allowed this memory to run its course.

"Eternity will never be long enough Father." Michiru spoke in his sleep. "But...I do. With all my heart and soul I do."

Looking in confusion as to what Michiru was talking about as he slept, Sango waited a few minutes before Michiru began to frown frustratingly, "Anybody who has any objection, besides you Miroku!"

Then Sango remembered after a minute or so Michiru's sleeping form tightening his grip on her waist and the motion he made with his lips. Not familiar with modern marriage customs, Sango wondered what he was dreaming about, then she heard him speaking in his sleep again.

"Well we've done it Sango my love." Michiru spoke. "Now we can settle down in a cozy little home raising our...twelve beautiful children..."

Remembering the brief gasp and blush that fell out of her lips at hearing this, and then the slight chuckle that followed with her whispering to herself in a quiet sputtering laugh, "Twelve?"

"Yeah," Michiru replied opening his eyes with a smile revealing that she had woken him up. "After all, love as strong as ours should be shared with many symbols of our love."

Although Sango was not sure if she was okay with the idea of having twelve children, she knew that she loved Michiru so much. And even though it was a farfetched dream, it was a beautiful dream nonetheless.

"But Michiru," Sango teased. "If we bring up twelve children, what about you and I? We won't have time to spend to ourselves spending so much time raising those children."

"Perhaps not." Michiru nodded. "But at least we'll still love each other."

Smiling as this joyful memory played itself out, Sango sighed. While she wasn't sure about raising twelve children, she did love being a mother very much, and began stroking her own stomach happily.

"I think perhaps seven or eight would be just perfect..." Sango whispered fondly to herself.

"Seven or eight what dear?" A voice spoke from behind waking Sango up from her daydream.

"Oh! Mrs. Kururugi!" Sango gasped. "Sorry I was just daydreaming."

Frowning, Mrs. Kururugi sighed, "Sweetie, how many times have I told you to call me either 'Ma'am,' or 'Mother,' or even by my first name?" She asked. "You're my daughter-in-law. As such there's no need to be so formal with me."

"Sorry, ma'am." Sango sighed, not entirely sure about calling her "Mother."

"That's okay." Mrs. Kururugi spoke. "Anyway I couldn't help but listen in on you thinking aloud. What were you daydreaming about dearie?"

"Oh!" Sango gasped blushing. "Oh, um nothing! I was just, talking to myself!"

"Uh-huh!" Mrs. Kururugi replied with a rasied eyebrow. "A grown woman talking to herself. I would think you were above all that."

"Well it's just that..." Sango began as a tear fell down her eye. "I was just thinking about the new baby growing inside me, and there's a possibility that Michiru won't be here when I give birth to it like he was when I gave birth to Michigo and Sanru."

It was then that Sango began to cry, "There's also a chance that...God forbid...he could die over there in the Feudal Era! And if that were to happen then I...I..." It was then that Sango broke down and began crying profusely. "Oh, I miss him so much! I want his to come back! I want him to be here for the birthing of this child!"

Noddins sympathetically, Mrs. Kururugi then wrapped her arms around her daughter-in-law's shoulders and began to quietly shush her.

"Shh, shh, shh, shh, shhhhh..." Mrs. Kururugi spoke, "It's okay Sango, everything is going to be alright, you'll see. I know you miss him, and you are right that he might not be there for the birth of this child, but it's going to be okay. Michiru's a grown man now, and he can take care of himself."

"I know, but..." Sango wept. "I want to be there with him right now!"

"You are Sango." Mrs. Kururugi spoke. "Kirara is with him, and so is your Hiraikotsu. Both are reminders that you are always there by his side no matter where he goes."

Waiting for Sango to calm down a bit, Mrs. Kururugi then picked up her grief-stricken daughter-in-law and led her to the room where little Michigo and Sanru were laying in their cribs.

"Now look at these little sleeping angels Sango." Mrs. Kururugi whispered. "Look at them and you see so much of their father in them, they are the reminder that no matter where he goes, he is always here with you."

Nodding as a smile replaced her tears, Sango knelt over to her babies and smiled.

"My little Michigo and Sanru..." She whispered as Mrs. Kururugi left the room. "The creations of the love I have for Michiru with another on the way."

"Mommy?" A voice called from the hallway. "Are you in here?"

"Yes Kanna." Sango whispered. "Shhh...you'll wake your sisters."

"Mommy, will you tuck me in bed for my nap and sing me to sleep?" Kanna asked with a yawn. "I'm tired."

"Of course sweetie." Sango nodded taking her daughter's hand and leading her to her room. As soon as they arrived, Sango then pulled the warm blankets over Kanna's shoulders.

"Oh, mommy!" Kanna spoke excitedly. "I learned how to multiply and divide today!"

"You did?" Sango asked with a smile. "That's wonderful! I'm so happy for you Kanna!"

"And as a reward, grandpa took me to the park!" Kanna explained happily. "I met a very cute boy there!"

Chuckling at this, Sango sighed and said, "I guess you're growing up faster than expected then." She spoke thinking to herself, "That leaves me to focus on making sure Michigo and Sanru grow up happily too."

"I wish daddy were here to tell me a bedtime story." Kanna whined breaking Sango from her thoughts.

"So do I, Kanna." She whispered "So do I." It was then that she began to sing until she saw Kanna slowly close her eyes. Bending down to kiss her forehead, Sango whispered, "Sweet dreams dear daughter." Then was brought back to the present at the sound of two babies crying.

"Better go see what your sisters want." Sango chuckled softly leaving the room.

Meanwhile in the Feudal Era, the team had made their way through the woods and saw that it was approaching nightfall. They had decided to venture to the Wolf-Demon territory and pay Koga a visit to try and dig up some information that may have accumulated while they were away in the modern era.

Setting camp to get some much needed food and rest before the long walk to Koga's lair, Michiru sat at the fire with a sad sigh on his face.

"Meow? Meow?" Kirara mewed softly at the sad expression her master had on his face.

"Hey Kirara, are you hungry?" Michiru spoke happy to see his old friend was here to comfort him.

"Meow!" Kirara mewed excitedly at the thought of food.

"I thought so." Michiru giggled. "Don't worry, I'll get something to eat." He then left camp to hunt for something to eat tonight. As he searched the woods, he sighed remembering all the fun hunting was when Sango was there at his side to help him.

Sighing a sigh of longing, Michiru smiled to himself thinking back to when he shared a happy life in Kaede's Village before Naraku returned again. How simple everyday things seemed so pleasurable with a family to share them with.

"It's around Kanna's naptime right now." Michiru thought to himself with a chuckle. "She always liked to hear either stories of her mother and I's adventures and fights against her former creator Naraku. And when she was not in the mood for that, she wanted to hear more modern fairy tales, stories of my ancestors, and whatnot. She loves to hear my stories, before Sango tucks her in, sings her to sleep, and plants a kiss on her forehead before whispering to her, 'Sweet dreams dear daughter.'"

Smiling as these memories played into Michiru's mind, his expression then turned sour at the knowledge that not only had Naraku kidnapped his daughters and enslaved them, he was taking time away from his beloved family.

Cursing the fact he was deprived of these simple yet special pleasures all because of Naraku. The sound of Sango's voice, the feeling of her warm affectionate embrace, the taste of her sweet blood-red honeyed lips, the joyous sound of laughter from Kanna as she played in the gardens in the sunshine, and the playful splashing she would do in the river or the hot-spring when she was being bathed, the curious way Kohaku looked at the world as he strived to become both a great warrior and a scholar in the great school Michiru had arranged to have built in Kasasagi Town to help bring education to Japan, The school that Kohaku was excited to attend in a year's time.

But because of Naraku, all that was being jeopardized. And though he kept it bottled up and never expressed it, he was furious about it.

Just then the sound of gobbling woke Michiru from his thoughts as he spied a huge wild turkey. It was big enough to cook and last a couple of days. A thought that depressed Michiru as he thought of his wife's cooking. While Kagome was undeniably a great cook, there was something special about all the love and care Sango put into her cooking.

But that was beside the point right now. Right now, he needed to capture that turkey. So he drew forth his Shikiga and invoking his Grass Shikigami powers, caused a massive vine to snake its way to the turkey and grab it by the throat.

Seeing he captured his prey, Michiru darted towards the plump bird and grabbed it by the neck. Giving it a quick twist to kill the bird off quickly so as not to cause it any pain, Michiru picked up its dead carcass and headed back for camp.

Upon his return, Michiru saw Miroku sitting by himself with a sad look on his face. Curious as to why Miroku was so sad, Michiru went to Miroku's side and spoke getting his attention.

"Hey Miroku, why the long face?" Michiru asked.

Not saying a word due to the risk of the curse in his left arm that threatened to end his life should he accidentally let dishonesty escape his lips, Miroku began writing something in a notepad and showed it to Michiru.

"'Sango, I wish she was here.'" Michiru read out loud. Sighing, Michiru decided to try and lighten the mood bay answering, "Imagine how I feel Miroku?"

Miroku didn't laugh or smile at this. Seeing he shouldn't have teased Miroku like that, Michiru went to Miroku and said, "Sango...had a very good reason to stay behind."

Looking at Michiru at this, a stern expression came across Miroku's face as he hurriedly wrote in his notepad, 'Yes, she's pregnant again! With a child that should be MINE!'

"Whoa! Whoa! Miroku, YOU were the reason Sango left you! No need to get so hostile with me!" Michiru protested.

"Hostile?! Hostile?!" Miroku cried out, breaking his vow of silence. "I'll show you hostile Michiru!"

With that, Miroku then swung his staff at Michiru's face. An attack that was easily blocked and caught my Michiru.

"Don't do this Miroku, you don't stand a chance." Michiru quietly replied. "I am on par with Sesshomaru himself, and you can't use your Wind Tunnel lest you be sucked in. So why don't you just calm down and simmer down?"

Looking into Michiru's eyes and seeing that he meant no harm to Miroku, but would fight back if necessary, Miroku struggled for a few seconds, then calmed down and fell to his knees sobbing.

"Michiru, please forgive me!" Miroku pleaded. "I...I guess I was so upset about what Naraku did to me, I guess I needed and excuse to take my frustrations out on. I shouldn't have done that to you Michiru."

Nodding his understanding, Michiru knelt down lifting Miroku back to his feet. "It's okay Miroku, I understand how you feel. I've been bottling up emotions having been deprived of quality time due to what Naraku's done to me and my family."

"Yes!" Miroku nodded. "He must pay!"

"He will!" Michiru spoke. "We're gonna find him and force Sango's Hiraikotsu right down his THROAT for all he's done!"

"Yes! Yes we will!" Miroku agreed.

Nodding, Michiru spoke to Miroku, "Let's go back to camp now, oh and Miroku?"

"Hmm?" Miroku asked.

"Vow of silence." Michiru whispered.

"Right." Miroku whispered as he shut his mouth and followed Michiru back to camp.

As the two walked back holding the massive turkey over their shoulders, Michiru turned to the night sky and spoke inwardly to Sango even though she wasn't there. "We WILL kill Naraku Sango! And when we do, we'll go back to our happy life that we shared together. But until then, take care of our children, and...take care of yourself."

In the Modern Era Sango held her babies to her bare breast and smiled at their suckling happily. Then as if she could see Michiru standing right there, she whispered. "Kill Naraku and come back to me soon Michiru so that we can get back to enjoying our happy life. And please, please be here when I give birth to this child..."
