"What's the plan?" Sydney whispered as we stood outside of what use to be mine and Brandon's house.
"Go in, confront him and then shoot him until I'm out of bullets," I whispered back.
"Well at least you've got something."
"Let's go around back," I said wanting to make sure I had the upper hand. We silently made our way around the house, the inside was just as dark as the outside. There was one light on though upstairs where I figured he was. I wasn't surprised that the back door was unlocked, it was just something we'd always done. "Stay close to me," I told her as we slowly walked through the house. My stomach was twisting in knots as I clutched the gun tightly.
"He's upstairs," Sydney whispered as soft music began to play from that direction, "I'm a bit scared," she said pausing.
"I understand if you want to wait outside," I told her gently, "you don't owe me anything."
"I owe it to myself and my family to stop what I should have stopped long ago," she said determined and I gave her a brief smile.
"When I do this, when I kill him," I stuttered before taking a deep breath, "when the police question you I want you to tell them you weren't here," I explained to her. "Before we got out of the car I sent you a text to your phone explaining everything that happened and what I was going to do. I put the address in there too so it will look like you weren't even here and you found me like this."
"Brooke-"
"You have a family Syd, I'm not going to take you down with me."
"What about Avery? Maybe we should think this through some more," she says worriedly.
"Avery has an amazing father, uncle, grandfather and plenty of cousins and friends. She'll be loved and protected for the rest of her life."
"Every girl needs her mother." I closed my eyes briefly holding back tears. I didn't want to miss anything in my families lives but I knew one day they would all understand, especially Avery.
"She'll understand," I said ending the conversation and silently heading up the stairs. When we reached the top the music was indeed coming from the only room with the light on. We looked inside to see him bundled up under the covers, sleeping I presumed. "You stay here, I'll approach him," I whispered and she nodded in understanding.
"Be careful," she whispered back before I walked closer to the bed. I quickly flipped the radio off and pointed my gun right at him.
"Brandon I know it was you that hurt Avery, get up now!" I shouted as adrenaline shot through my veins. I took a shaky breath when I realized he wasn't moving. "I said get the fuck up!" I shouted again and still he didn't move one inch. I slowly walked closer to the bed and hesitantly removed the covers only to see a stack of pillows. He tricked us.
"We're you expecting to find me?" Came his dark yet amused voice. I quickly turned and aim the gun at him.
"No!" I shouted as he held Sydney against his body, his hand covering her mouth. "Let her go!" I yelled shakily pointing the gun at him, "now!"
"Or what? Are you going to shoot me Brooke Cameron?" He laughed and rested his chin on Sydney's shoulder. "You and I both know that you've never shot a gun in your entire life. There's noway you'll risk accidentally shooting Syd. Then Adrian will have to find a new mommy for Sheila." Sydney angrily flared in his arms and he yanked her by her hair, stopping her from moving.
"Let her go Brandon, this is between me and you," I said as he creepily stroked the side of her face.
"It was until this nosy bitch decided to fly over here and destroy everything that I planned!" He said slamming her head into the doorframe.
"Sydney!" I yelled as blood immediately flowed from her face. I wanted to shoot him but he was halfway right. I have shot a gun before but my aim was horrific and I didn't want to risk being the reason her child was motherless. But what could I do, I was the one with the gun but I was still as powerless as if I didn't have it.
"Do it Brooke! Shoot him, don't worry about me," she cried but I couldn't do that do her.
"Leave her out of it please!" I yelled as tears now filled my eyes.
"You want me to let her go?" He asked backing out of the room. I nodded never dropping the gun, "okay," he said before throwing her down the stairs.
"Sydney!" I yelled running out of the room to see her unconscious body laying at the bottom of the stairs. "You bastard!" I said pointing my gun at him again.
"Do it," he said with a smile on his face. I took a deep breath and slowly placed my finger on the trigger. "But wait," he teased, "don't you want to hear my confession?" My arm twitched in disappointment, he knew me well enough.
"Well get on with it then," I ordered sneaking another glance at Sydney who's leg lightly moved.
"I loved Avery and you know that," he said.
"Spit it the fuck out!" I shouted angrily.
"She was so precious, so little and innocent," he continued on ignoring me, "once I saw that she was a trading little whore like her mother I decided to teach the both of you a lesson!"
"You watch your mouth when you talk about my daughter."
"I practically raised her, I was there for her and for you through your entire pregnancy and birth," he continued, "unlike you it was easy to gain her trust back and make her feel comfortable around me again. So I took her to the beach and we played on the rocks that mummy had warned her were dangerous," he mocked. I remembered the day when we played on the beach with Seth and I warned her about playing on the rocks.
"Then you hit her," I said my voice shaky and ready to crack yet full of anger.
"Nope," he grinned, "the rocks were wet so I knew it was only a matter of time before she slipped." I swallowed hard as he seemed to be enjoying his story. "When she slipped and got her ankle stuck that was enough for me, but then-" he trailed off his eyes growing angrier. "When she started crying and begging for help, all I could see was you. I wanted to kill you I wanted to watch the life leave your eyes just like you did to my son!" He yelled enraged and I took a step back.
"Our son died from lung failure-"
"My son!" He screamed slamming his fist into the wall and leaving a dent.
"What did you do next," I asked ignoring his outburst. He calmed his breathing and then started to chuckle.
"I couldn't take the crying anymore so I made it stop, just like you did with my son."
"He died of lung failure!" I screamed getting more and more upset.
"You killed him!" He yelled back, "you didn't want to give me the one thing I desired, a son! You just didn't want to have a baby by me did you? You were perfect Brooke, you were the only one to finally give me a son and then you took him away!"
"What did you do to those other women?" I asked my hand squeezing the gun a bit tighter.
"Avery could almost see through me," he said not answering my previous question, "she could see my dark side and I had to quickly persuade her that I was good."
"What did you do to those women!" I yelled again but he acted as though he couldn't hear me.
"There was one person though who really saw me for who I was," he said with a grin, meeting my eyes again.
"If you're not going to answer any of my questions then this is over."
"She was the same way, that woman that saw through me. She didn't want to hear anything I had to say except for answers to her pathetic questions," he said leaning his head to one side as he examined my reaction. "You look just like her you know," he teased as a smile now graced his face.
"Who?" I asked as venom dripped from my voice.
"Your mum," he said and my heart dropped, "the bitch who saw right through me."
"My mum drowned on the job-"
"Studying the sea creatures like always, I know," he said and took a step forward, "or at least that what they said because there's no other evidence to prove otherwise."
"Shut up," I whispered as my eyes filled with water, "you don't get to talk about my mother, ever!"
"I can prove it," he says taking another step.
"If you move another step I will shoot you right where you stand."
"Okay," he says putting his hands up in surrender, "there's a tape in my top drawer, you're going to want to see what's on it." I stared at him long and hard before deciding I wanted to to know the truth.
"Slowly enter the bedroom," I said and he smirked.
"You're the one with the gun." I followed him into the room still pointing the gun at his head. I reached with one hand in the drawer and picked up a dvd. I quickly put it in its player all the while keeping an eye on him. I took a few steps back as the tape began to play, I was appalled by the multiple women I watched him murder. He drowned them, strangled them, shot them and so much more that I could hardly look.
"You're a monster," I said as tears fell.
"They were the monsters," he said back, nothing but seriousness on his face, "oh look Brooke, you're going to want to see this part," he said excitedly.
"Mum," I whispered as she now appeared on the screen.
"I won't let you hurt them," she said seriously, wearing her divers suit as they stood on the beach.
"I love them," Brandon said to her.
"Stay the hell away from my daughter and my grandchild, I will kill you myself if you lay a hand on them."
"Will you?" He asks moving closer to her as she backs away and closer to the ocean.
"Don't think you scare me," she said her eyes blazing with anger. I bit my lip to hold back any tears that were threatening to spill.
"I'm sorry you feel that way, but now that you've figured me out I'm going to have to remove you from the picture," he said moving closer to her with a knife though this time she held her ground. "Say goodbye Eliza, tell Brooke and Avery how you've failed them."
"You'll never get away with this, Brooke will figure you out, she'll see you for the monster you really are," she said as tears fell from her eyes.
"I said say goodbye Eliza, or they'll never know how you really felt about them," he said now aiming the camera closer to her face.
"Brooke," she finally said and I shook as my tears fell continuously, "my little girl, half of my world. I am so sorry, I am so sorry that I didn't figure out what kind of man he was until now. I wish I could save you and Avery but I know you'll see it for yourself before it's too late. You kiss Avery every night and promise that every once in awhile you'll tell her about me, tell her how much I love her and I wish I could see her grow up." She was now crying so hard I could barely hear her.
"See doesn't that make you feel better," Brandon taunted as he walked closer to her.
"Wait," she said and he froze in place, "I'm not done," she told him.
"Proceed then Mrs. Cameron."
"Jared," she whispered to the camera, "the other half of my world, I'm so sorry for abandoning you when you needed me the most. I take the full blame for me not being as present as I should have been in you and Brooke's lives. I just want you to know that I'm so proud of you son, you became a man that any parent would be happy to show off. I hope your heart can forgive me and that one day you'll find someone to love you as much as I love you and your sister. Take care of them for me my sweet boy, I wish I could see you one last time." I sobbed aloud as I couldn't hold back the emotions flowing within me.
"Anything else?" Brandon asked.
"Yes," she mumbled wiping her eyes, "Michael," she said now addressing my dad. "I'm sorry for everything I did wrong in our marriage. Maybe I was being selfish when I was thinking about moving our family for my career. You were right, I could of done it in Washington where I would of had my family. I just want you to know that when you told me to leave without our children I know you did it for them and I don't blame you. I just wish I would have stayed and instead I missed out on watching my children grow up. Just know that regardless of our past I still and will always love you. Please continue to watch over our kids and our granddaughter."
"Eliza," Brandon called, "it's time."
"No," I whispered painfully as I watched my mother fight for her life. He beat her and stabbed her until she was unable to move and then he drowned her before letting her body float away deeper and deeper into the ocean. "You son of a bitch!" I yelled my eyes on him as I put my finger on the trigger again.
"Brooke why are you so upset, I let her say goodbye to you," he said as though he did nothing wrong.
"You killed my mum! How could you!" I said as tears blurred my vision and my body was ready to give out.
"She wasn't going to let us be together, can't you see, I saved us," he said, "and it was a great opportunity for us to get closer." I remembered like it was yesterday, how I went running to Brandon crying about my mothers death and he had the nerve to actually console me.
"Your sick!"
"At least you know what her last words were," he said as a smirk worked it's way onto his face, "you want to know what Avery's last words were?"
"Shut up," I said in a deadly tone.
"Mummy," he cried in a child's voice, "mummy please help me," he said taunting me.
"Shut up!" I yelled.
"I just want you to live with the knowledge that your daughter will never forgive you," he said his face now filled with a crazed expression. "She'll always remember when she was scared and afraid and that she cried for her mummy, for you, and you never came!"
"I said shut up!" I screamed and the gun went off. I didn't know where I hit him, I just know he was now laying on the ground and there was blood splattered on the wall. I gasped for breath before I broke down crying. I had so many emotions confined in me that I didn't know what to do with myself. I quickly sucked it up and decided that I could deal with these feelings later. First things first, I need to check on Sydney. I quickly grabbed the dvd and left the room, making my way downstairs to where Sydney lay in a different position, her eyes wide open. "Where does it hurt?" I asked her as I placed the gun on the floor beside me.
"My arm," she stuttered, "it's dislocated and I've got a few broken ribs," she said.
"How's your face?" I asked her remembering when he slammed her face into the wall.
"My nose was broken but I pushed it back into place, It's numb now."
"Good thing you're a doctor huh?" I asked and a dry laugh left her lips. "I'm going to help you up and get you to a hospital," I told her, "this is going to hurt." She nodded and I wrapped my arm around her neck and her waist before lifting her from the floor. She screamed out in pain and I felt horrible but I knew this was unavoidable.
"Did you kill him?" She asked as I slowly half carried her across the room.
"I don't know," I told her honestly, "but there's so much blood I didn't have the heart to check."
"Wait," she practically cried as we reached the backdoor. I stopped and let her lean against me, I watched with wide eyes as she popped her arm back in place. She screamed like she'd been murdered and then huffed to catch her breath. "Okay, let's go," she said and we proceeded out the back door.
"You better not take another step," came the last voice I wanted to hear. I closed my eyes for a moment in disbelief as I wish I would have shot him a second time. Sydney and I turned around and there he stood, pointing the gun I had forgotten right at us. He was holding his right side with his free hand where it seems I'd shot him. "Aren't you going to beg?" He asked?
"For what?" I asked.
"Your life?" He said with a smirk.
"Never," I said as he walked closer to us.
"Walk, now," he threatened and we had no choice but to oblige. I helped Sydney turn back around and we headed into the woods. I don't know how long we had walked before he finally stopped us. "Drop her," he told me and I shook my head.
"She's hurt-"
"I said drop her!" He yelled pointing the gun directly at me and I swallowed as I stared him down.
"It's okay Brooke, let me go," Sydney said already moving out of my arms. I helped to the ground as gently as possible.
"Good girl," he said now approaching me.
"Go fu-" before I could finish my sentence he pistol whipped right across the face and I dropped to the ground.
"You think you can shoot me and get away with it," he said as he kicked me in the side and I yelped in pain. "After everything I did for you," he said kicking me again and this time I held onto his leg causing him to fall back and drop the gun. I scooted across the ground trying to reach it but he punched me knocking me back as he now reached for the gun. I then took my foot and kicked him in the side as hard as I could before touching the top of the gun and smacking it further away from us. He jumped on me and we struggled on the ground throwing punches and kicking until we both heard the gun click. Before I could understand what was happening, Brandon lifted the both of us up and wrapped his arm around my neck as he hid his body behind me and Sydney aimed a gun right at us.
"Let her go," she said her arm shaking slightly.
"No, go ahead and shoot me," he told her squeezing me tighter, "but know that I'll break her neck before the bullet even touches me. He tensed up as there was howling in the distance and I breathed a sigh of relief.
"They're coming for you," I told him and he pressed himself against me.
"But it'll be too late for you," he whispered kissing the side of my head.
"Sydney whatever you see next, don't be afraid," I told her.
"Let her go!" She shouted again.
"She started this!" He shouted back.
"You started this!" She yelled, "but I'm going to finally finish it like I should have long ago. Brooke I'm sorry, just remember I'm a doctor." It took me a moment to understand what she meant but when I finally did I nodded at her and took a deep breath. Her arm stopped shaking and she slightly closed one eye just as the gun went off and hot metal burned into my shoulder. I screamed as my body flew back and I was immediately dropped to the ground. I heard another shot, leaves crunching and howling which was closer than before. "I've got you," Sydney said taking off her jacket and pressing it against my bleeding shoulder.
"Ow!" I screamed in pain, being shot was nothing like I'd imagined and I was ready to pass out from the pain.
"Breath through it," she told me, "in through the nose and out of the mouth." I did my best to follow her instructions. "Oh my god," she whispered as giant wolves began to approach us.
"Remember what I said Syd, they won't hurt us so don't be afraid," I tried to reassure her, "now where's Brandon?"
"I missed and he took off deeper into the woods."
"Ok, now tell them which way he went," I told her and she looked at me bewildered, "just do it."
"He went that way," she told them as she pointed straight ahead. The wolves without further directions ran ahead leaving us there with one wolf that chose to stay behind. He nuzzled his nose against my neck and I chuckled a bit reaching up to pet his brown fur.
"You're always saving me," I whispered as my eyes closed. His whining was all I heard as I slipped unconscious
