I am on a role! Clearly I can't get enough of this story again! I have missed these characters! I particularly enjoy this chapter, it was great fun to write. I hope you enjoy it too.
...
It was now late October, an unmistakable chill clung to the air. Auburn leaves littered the ground, a large quantity of fully ripe pumpkins were piled within the vegetable patch and students had begun to walk around with tasteless masks, taking any opportunity to jump out on unsuspecting victims; much to the displeasure of the professors.
Harry and Tom had maintained a pleasurable companionship since their last peace talk a few weeks prior. Although if Tom was still undergoing secret activities, he was now concealing it much more effectively. Harry had not been able to detect any more suspicious behavior from him. Though coincidentally this only seemed to make him feel more uneasy.
Ebony and Elixa had also appeared to come to accept Tom and very rarely made any unsavory comments. Although Ebony still raised her eyebrows and rolled her eyes on a regular basis, but If Tom had recognised this (which Harry was certain he had) he had chosen to ignore her.
Malfoy and the rest of the Slytherin purists had kept their distance, apart from the occasional glare or snigger in Harry's direction in contrast to the fearful flicker in their eyes if they accidentally looked at Tom.
"So the Halloween is this weekend? Does anyone have any ideas? Seeing as the first years do not get a party." Ebony asked bitterly over breakfast.
"I wouldn't want to go anyway. It's stupid in my opinion. Superstition and an excuse to act and dress foolishly," Tom replied lazily, as he sipped on some pumpkin juice.
"I thought you would say that," Ebony rolled her eyes, Tom merely glared back at her.
"What about getting together to tell some scary stories?" Elixa giggled.
"Oh please," Tom began,
"I'm sure there will be some kind of get together in one of the common rooms," Harry quickly interrupted.
"No." Riddle simply stated looking stern and shaking his head. "Absolutely not."
"Well come on then, you suggest something," Ebony prompted prodding her fork in his direction.
Tom signed and put down his glass with a slightly exaggerated thud. "If we must partake in such silly traditions why don't we actually try something interesting?"
Harry felt like his toast had stopped half way down his gullet. Ebony looked almost giddy with excitement, while Elixa look quietly pale. Satisfied that he had an engrossed audience Tom continued,
"Well why don't we experiment with a little 'soul summoning'" he used his fingers to add quotations to the words soul summoning.
"What like… a séance?" Ebony replied raising an eyebrow.
"Exactly," Tom smirked.
Harry looked towards Elixa as she reflected the same uneasy expression.
The next few days had passed by quickly and Halloween was upon them. Decorations in the form of carved pumpkins, streamers and atmospheric lighting adorned the castles many rooms and halls. Preparations for the Halloween ball held for the older students were well on the way and there was much excited anticipation within the air.
However Harry did not feel excited anticipation for the night ahead. The thought of a séance with Tom had lay heavy on him like a ton of bricks all week. He was hoping for some form of dreadful illness to befall him or perhaps a small natural disaster? But no such luck.
Eight pm had rolled around in no time at all and Harry found himself sat around a round table with Tom, Elixa and Ebony in a dusty abandoned classroom, with just a few flickering candles shedding some light upon the otherwise darkened room. Harry had not thought for one moment that the supernatural would have been shall he say 'up Tom's alley'. Tom's face was however pulled into a smirk. Could he have a trick up his sleeve? He was almost certain.
"Hold hands," Tom whispered placing his open palms down upon the table. Harry gingerly placed his hand upon Tom's, it was as cold as ice. Ebony placed her hand gingerly on Tom's other hand. Elixa was last to complete the circle of hands, nervously placing her hands upon Harry's and Ebony's.
"It's okay Elixa, it just a bit of fun," Ebony smiled, squeezing her friends hand reassuringly.
"Oh is it?" Tom whispered menacingly.
"Oh stop it Tom," Ebony rolled her eyes, giving his arm a dig with her elbow.
Tom ignored her, "Is there anyone on the other side that would like to come forward and communicate with us," Tom breathed gently. Harry had to hide a smile, Tom was playing a game.
Within seconds the lights around them began to flicker. Elixa jumped and tried to remove her hands from Harry and Ebony, but they both held her tight.
Ebony looked around but Harry shared a knowing look with Tom. Who innocently gazed back, appearing slightly amused behind his thin lips.
"Come forward, use our energies. Let us know that you are with us." Tom continued.
"Stop it!" Elixa blurted out but Tom just smirked as the shutters on the windows slammed open, flooding the room in eerie moonlight. Elixa screamed, and Ebony jumped almost out of her seat. Harry had to contain his laughter.
"Do you mean us harm spirit? Demon? Who are you!?" Tom shouted in mock panic.
"No stop it!" Eliza screamed. "Make it stop!"
There was a huge bang and a 'figure' flew through the air from near the ceiling down into the table.
"No! No! No!" Elixa screamed jumping up and running around in circles of panic. Ebony had backed away now, breathing heavily in shock.
It went silent and Tom burst out into laughter. Harry joined in, he couldn't help it.
"Oh ha ha very bloody funny Riddle!" Ebony hissed approaching him with a hand to slap him. Just as she was about to take her swing, the candles extinguished, leaving just the milky moonlight illuminating them.
"It's not funny anymore," Ebony hissed. But Harry looked at Tom and Tom was no longer laughing he was looking at the candles in confusion.
"That… wasn't me," Tom whispered.
"Of course it was!" Ebony spat.
"The other stuff was me but that wasn't!" He spat back.
"I think he is telling the truth," Harry whispered. Elixa stood shaking watching them all too terrified to move.
A huge bang made the foursome jump. Elixa screamed again, tears now streaming down her face.
"Was that you!?" Ebony shouted at Tom now.
Tom merely shook his head slowly. Harry felt shivers rise up his spine, the kind of feeling he got with impending danger.
"Let's just leave now," Harry suggested and he began to walk towards the door. Elixa ran towards the door, pulling Ebony with her. She clasped the door handle and turned it, pulling hard. It remained firmly shut. She swung around in panic.
"Tom did you lock the door?" Ebony asked, her voice now was not angry but afraid.
Tom had not yet moved from his position near the table.
"No, I haven't locked it. You're a witch though are you not?" Tom replied. He walked towards the door, took out his wand, confidently pointing it at the door knob he recieted the incantation, "Alohomora,".
The door did not click open. Panic flit across Tom's face.
"Why isn't it working!?" Elixa screamed.
A scrapping noise in the direction of the table could now be heard echoing around the empty room.
"What's that noise?" Ebony whispered.
Harry and Tom looked at each other. Tom began to walk forwards slowly towards the table, Harry followed him. Ebony pulled a reluctant Elixa behind her as she trailed slowly after them.
As they approached the table, Tom stopped short. His face had gone ghostly white as he looked down upon the table. Craved into the table were the word,
"SON."
"We need to leave now," Harry grabbed hold of Tom's arm and pulled, but Tom appeared rooted to the spot.
Another crack and the table threw itself in their direction.
"Now," Harry shouted and he pulled Tom running towards the door. Ebony pushed on the door and this time it flew open. The force of it throwing them into the empty hallway, the door slamming shut behind them.
The four of them stood frozen, silent, breathing heavily in the hallway. The odd sob from Elixa could be heard vibrating off of the tall stone walls.
