GOTHAM CITY
November 8, 20:37 EDT
"Robiiiin," I whined, "What do I get Wally for his birthday!?"
"Why are you asking me?" Robin chuckled. He turned his attention from the lovely view of Gotham we had from the top of a Wayne Tech facility to me.
"You're his best friend!" I exclaimed, waving my arms around.
"You're his girlfriend!" He countered with his signature smirk plastered on his face.
"Harumph," I pouted, crossing my arms in front of me, "That doesn't help," Robin chuckled as I fell backwards so my back was pressed against the roof while my feet were still dangling off. It's an odd sensation to know you're so high up, yet you have your feet dangling.
He lay down as well and I turned my head to look at him, "Get him some food?"
"Wow," I deadpanned, turning my gaze up to the smoggy sky, "Good one Wonder Bread. Why didn't I think of that?"
"Hey now," It was his turn to pout, "No need for name calling and besides, you waited until three days before his birthday to get him a gift?" It was true, I'm a bad girlfriend.
"Wally wasn't helping me!" I shouted in an exasperated tone, "I asked him I don't know how many times what he wanted! And he wouldn't tell me!" I ran my hands down my face and groaned before turning back to face Robin, "What'd you get him?"
"A PS3," Robin gloated. A smirk crept on his face as he stared at the incredulous look on my face.
"Wh- How? Where'd you get the money for a PS3?!" I exclaimed, sitting up and staring at him.
"That is a secret for me to know and you to never find out," He smirked, also returning to a sitting position.
"You're a butt. You know that right?" I frowned.
"I know that know," He retorted, still smirking.
"I'll smack that smirk right off your face if you don't stop," I grumbled, turning my gaze to the city below me.
"No you won't," Robin challenged, the smirk was most likely still on his face.
"Wanna bet?" I mumbled, turning to glare at him. I was about to pounce when his comm went off. He held up his hand in a 'one moment please' gesture as he stood up to answer his comm.
"Scarecrow?" I heard him ask. I was assuming he was talking to Batman, "Where? I'm near there. Alight. Got it. Robin out," His conversation finished and I looked up at him as he made his way back over to me.
"Duty calls Fel," He smiled at me sheepishly as he helped me up, "Sorry,"
"It's fine," I smiled. I wrapped my arms around Robin's waist as he pulled out his grappling gun to lower us back to ground level.
I removed myself from Robin's grip and waved to him as he walked off. He turned to wave at me and called out, "See you to-" His face contorted into one of fear and confusion and I took a step towards him, "Falcon look out!" He screeched. I whirled around and was about to duck, but I wasn't fast enough. I was greeted with a metal pipe to the head and the last thing I could recall was Robin screaming my name.
I slowly opened my eyes but immediately winced in pain as the bright light hit my eyes. My head felt like it was pounding and I could feel my hair, caked with dry blood, sticking to my face.
I tried to move my hands but quickly discovered that, along with my feet, they were bound tightly with rope. Feeling helpless, I glanced around the room I was in. It was a sickly white color and filled with old, deteriorating hospital supplies. I could see an I.V machine, some tubes filled with a sickly green color, and a hospital bed.
I attempted to wiggle my wrists back and forth, hoping to loosen the bindings so I could get out of here, but it was no use. Whoever tied them had some great knot tying skills.
"Awesome," I huffed. I noticed on a side table there were some medical tools, including a scalpel. I began rocking forward in the chair, attempting to get it to scoot over to the table. It was working until the back of my chair was roughly grabbed. I shrieked as the chair was spun around and I came face to face with a scrawny man wearing what looked like burlap sacks. His face was covered in one as well, but it had a menacing looking face cut into it.
"W-who are you?" I managed to squeak out. I was in Gotham territory meaning that besides for the Joker, I didn't know any villains at all. And that wasn't good.
"Who am I?" The masked man spoke with a raspy voice, "I'm the Scarecrow. The most feared villain in all of Gotham,"
Without thinking I spoke, "I thought that was the Joker?" My comment must've upset him because he smacked me. Hard.
"That idiotic clown doesn't deserve to be feared," Scarecrow growled, standing up straight and pacing around. He began to mumble to myself, "I asked for Robin and who do I get?" He turned and faced me. Even with the mask over his head, I could feel his glare on me and I shrunk back into the chair. He stalked back over to me and grabbed my chin, jutting it upwards so I was looking at him, "Who are you?"
"F-falcon," I muttered. He grumbled something I didn't catch and stormed out of the room, slamming the door behind him. I began to shake as the thoughts of what Scarecrow would do to me crossed my mind. He wanted Robin, not me. Which meant that he could kill me. Or most likely, would kill me. I swallowed the lump in my throat, willing myself to think positive thoughts. Robin saw me get taken and from the sounds of it, they don't have him. He'll come and rescue me. He'll bring the team and my brother's and Batman and… Who am I kidding?
They'll never find me. Robin doesn't know who took me or where they took me. Even I don't know where I'm at!
I jumped as I heard a loud thump against the door.
"I asked for Robin! ROBIN!" I heard Scarecrow scream.
"I-I though t-that was Robin," Came the weak reply of some foolish henchman.
"There are two things wrong with that thought," Scarecrow growled, "One: ROBIN IS A BOY. NOT A GIRL! And two: I pay you to act, not think," I heard click and then a loud gunshot. I quivered as I heard a body slide down the door.
I heard the door slide open and I looked up, which was a mistake. I almost hurled at the site of the henchman Scarecrow killed. There was so much blood.
Scarecrow pushed the dead henchman out of the way with his foot before he closed the door behind him. He walked over to the tubes that contained the sickly green colored liquids before he pulled out a syringe.
"I guess having you isn't a total loss," Scarecrow mumbled. He stuck the syringe in the liquid and when he pulled it out, it was full of the green liquid, "I'm sure Robin will come for you sometime soon, most likely bringing Batman with him," My eyes widened behind my mask as he turned and faced me, slowly making his way towards me with the syringe in tow, "For now though, I want to test something,"
ROBIN POV
"Falcon!" I shouted. I lunged at the goon that hit Felicity with the pipe but I was tackled out of the way by another goon. I threw a punch and it connected with his jaw, making him stumble backwards. I did a roundhouse kick as another goon attempted to grab me from behind.
"We don't have time for this!" One of the goons exclaimed, "Scarecrow wants Robin now!" I momentarily paused when the goon said my name. He has Falcon, not Robin. I noticed the goon that spoke was the goon holding onto Felicity and I charged at him, kicking one goon in the face before leaping over him. I rolled onto the ground and quickly sprang back up, but before I could reach him, a metal pipe made contact with my head, sending me into darkness.
"Robin," A gruff voice grumbled, "Robin, wake up,"
"B-Bruce?" I muttered. My mind was clouded and it hurt like a bitch.
"Are you alright?" He demanded. I opened my eyes to see him leaning over me, a stoic expression plastered on his face.
"Yea I'm fine," I grumbled, slowly making my way into a sitting position. I winced as my head began to pound.
"What happened here?" Bruce asked me.
"I-I don't remember," I frowned. Why couldn't I remember?
"Where'd Falcon go?" Bruce continued to barrage me with questions. I just wanted to go home and nap.
"She went home," I replied. In the back of my mind, I didn't agree with what I said.
"The zeta records say she didn't," Bruce coolly replied. He wrapped his arm below my shoulder and helped me stand up. I scrunched up my face in confusion. I remembered saying goodbye to her but then… "I asked you to meet me in Crime Alley. Scarecrow is there and when you didn't show up, I came to find you,"
"Scarecrow!" I exclaimed, finally remembering what had happened.
"Scarecrow?" Bruce questioned, evidently confused.
"His henchmen took her!" I shouted, removing myself from Bruce's grip. I tried to run down the alley, but I stumbled and fell. Bruce raced over to me and placed his hand on my shoulder.
"What do you mean they took her? Why would they want Falcon for?"
"They didn't," I frowned before whispering, "They wanted me,"
"Come on Hank!" I laughed as I ran along the water's edge, "Throw me the ball!"
"Alright Felicity," He chuckled, preparing to throw the ball, "Go long!" He released the ball and I sprinted after it. I caught the ball easily and turned on my heel, racing back towards my brothers.
As I was racing back, the sky began to darken and I could hear thunder in the distance. I frowned, unhappy with the fact that our beach day was ruined.
When I finally made it back to my brothers, I froze. Hank and Don were just… standing there, smiling at me. The part that threw me off though, was the fact that they were dressed as Hawk and Dove.
"W-what's going on?" I questioned, hesitantly making my way towards them. I stopped as there smiles changed into malicious grins, "Hank? Don?" They're eyes seemed to glow an eerie red and I took a step back as panic washed through me.
With a vicious snarl, my brothers attacked me. I rolled out of the way as Hank aimed a punch at my head. I did a quick sweep kick and knocked Hank on his feet. I spun around to face Don, but I couldn't find him. The next thing I knew, I felt hands clasp around my neck and lift me off the ground.
I struggled to pull Don's hands away from my neck but it was no use, he was too strong for me. I wiggled and squirmed in his grip but quickly stopped as Don's grip increased and I began to choke.
My mind was spinning as I tried to come up with a sensible reason as to why my brothers were attacking me, but my mind found nothing. And as tears streamed down my face, stars began to cloud my vision before my surroundings slowly faded to black.
Instead of being unconscious, I had slipped from Don's grip and it felt like I was falling as my teammates faces sneered and jeered at me from the darkness.
"You're so worthless,"
"Why are you even on this team?"
"Nobody wants you here,"
I landed roughly on what seemed to be the ground. I myself into a little ball and began crying harder until through my blurry vision, a pair of red boots I recognized approached me.
The figure squatted down next to me and I looked up into Wally's emerald eyes. But instead of finding comfort in them like usual, I found pain and hatred as Wally sneered at me.
"I don't know why I ever loved you,"
"Stop," I croaked out, covering my ears with my hands, "No more," I still hadn't figured out what was happening, but I hated it. I just wanted to go home and crawl into bed.
"You're a pathetic excuse for a human being," Wally continued to sneer at me. No matter how hard I tried, I couldn't block out his voice, "I deserve so much better than you,"
"STOP!" I screamed, "Just please, stop,"
As if by some miracle, Wally disappeared. I still remained on the cold, hard ground in the darkness, choosing to wallow in self pity as sobs racked my body. They were all right. I didn't have a place on the team. I wasn't special. Yea Artemis and Robin had no powers either, but they each brought something to the team. What did I bring? Nothing. Nothing at all.
My sobs calmed down until I was just sniffling and I sat up. There seemed to be no clear exit to this nightmare as I looked around the darkness. At least until I noticed a light ahead. I stared at for a little bit before I decided to walk towards it.
As I made my way towards it, the darkness around me began to dissolve into whiteness and I was soon falling again.
"Aah!" I gasped as my eyes shot open. I looked around the room in confusion as I tried to calm my ragged breathing down. I quickly recognized the room as the room Scarecrow had locked me in, the only difference this time being that I was laying on the cold, dirty floor of the room.
I slowly sat up but my limbs felt as though they were made of lead. I looked up as a pair of boots walked into my vision.
"Well that was interesting," Scarecrow muttered, looking down at me. He jotted down some notes on the clipboard he was holding in his hands.
"W-what did you d-do to me?" I croaked out. My throat was killing me and it sounded like my voice was going.
"I just gave you a small dose of my fear toxin," He explained. I watched as he walked over to the tubes containing his fear toxin, "That was only the first test," He loaded a syringe with more fear toxin than before, "Let's see how much you can take," He laughed as he made his way back over to me.
I slowly crawled away from him but it didn't do much good. He roughly grabbed my arm and I screamed as he plunged the syringe in, releasing the toxin into my bloodstream.
The last thing I remembered was Scarecrow laughing as my body began to convulse. I felt my body being lifted as my vision was once again, consumed by darkness.
"Remember Robin," Batman cautioned, "Be on high alert. We don't know how many goons he has,"
"Got it Batman," I replied. I followed Batman as we slipped into the shadows and made our way into the warehouse. I really hope Felicity is okay. If something happened to her, I don't think I could forgive myself.
We made our way down a hallway and I frowned. Where are all the guards at? We followed the hallway for a bit longer until I froze. The hairs on the back of my neck stood straight up as I heard screams of agony. And they weren't just anyone's screams, they were Felicity's.
"That's Falcon!" I hissed at Batman. I attempted to run around him and into the room that they were coming from but Batman stopped me. I turned and glared at him.
"We need to be logical about this Robin," He reasoned, "We could be walking into a trap,"
"We need to rescue her though!" I whisper-shouted, "What if he's infected her with his fear toxin?"
"Right you are Bird Boy," A voice boomed. Batman and I leapt into battle stances as the lights came on. I heard two doors burst open and I whirled around, looking on in shock at the contents of the room. There was Felicity, convulsing on the ground, screaming her head off, "Falcon here has made an excellent test subject," Scarecrow boasted.
Before Batman could stop me, I raced into the room and slid to Felicity's side. I cradled her head in my lap as her screaming became louder. I attempted to pull out Batman's cure for the fear toxin, but before I could inject her with it, her fist flew up and made contact with my jaw, sending me flying across the room.
When I opened my eyes, there was this grotesque figure sitting above me. I screamed and flung my fist up at it. There was a satisfactory cracking sound as my fist made contact with its jaw. The creature flew across the room and I jumped to my feet, prepared to get rid of this nightmare.
I watched as the creature slowly stood up. I braced myself for its attack, but it didn't come. I decided to take matters into my own hands as I charged at it, only for me to be tackled by something else.
I screamed again as a huge, bat pinned my arms above my head. It turned and looked at the other creature and said something I couldn't make out to the other creature. It just sounded like hissing.
I watched in shock as the other creature pulled out a knife and walked towards me, causing my screaming to intensify.
She punched me. She really punched me. I noticed Felicity stood up and I did the same.
"Felicity please," I pleaded with her, "I'm just trying to help you,"
"Felicity's mind is clouded with fear gas Robin," Batman explained, striding into the room, "She doesn't see us as us,"
I turned back to face Felicity. She was in a fighting stance and looked ready to pounce.
"Fel-" I began, but she charged. Batman intervened and tackled her before pinning her to the wall. She screamed again. Man was she going to have one sore throat.
"Robin," He turned to me, "The cure now!"
I nodded my head and reached into my utility belt, pulling out the syringe with the cure in it. I made my way towards her as her screaming intensified.
Before I could inject her with it, her foot came flying up and hit Batman in his family jewels. He doubled over and she used the distraction as a chance to jump over him, swiping out her foot to kick me in the face.
I fell onto the ground and the syringe slipped from grip.
"Funny how fear can make people stronger," Scarecrow's voice echoed around the room.
I growled before slowing standing up. Felicity now had the syringe in her hand and was holding it like she would one of her knives. As much as I didn't want to do this, I needed to take her down before she hurt me. Or worse, her self.
Just as the creature went to stab me, I swung my foot up and hit the bat in the balls. The bat doubled over and I leapt over him, swiping my foot out to the side and catching the other creature in the face with it. It went sprawling across the floor and the knife skidded out of its hands.
I dove for the knife and stood up, holding the knife in a ready to strike position. I eyed the creature wearily, the bat was still down. The creature stood up and charged at me. I swung the knife out in an attempt to stab it, but it ducked under the knife before pinning me to the ground.
The creature quickly pried the knife from my hand. It steadied the knife in its hand and just as it brought the knife down, I slammed my head against its nose. The creature didn't seem effected by it as it still plunged the knife into my neck. I thrashed and screamed out as my body slowly began to go numb.
The creature that was on top of me slowly began to fade in and out as my vision was blurring. The darkness of the room was slowly being replaced by white and before I completely slipped into unconsciousness, my vision cleared and I saw Batman and Robin.
"Robin?" I croaked, just before I passed out.
I charged at Felicity, just barely missing the syringe as she swiped out at me with it. I ducked under it and tackled her. I pinned her to the floor before prying the syringe from her hand.
I clasped the syringe in my hand and was prepare to inject her with the cure, when her head flew forward and slammed into my nose. I heard and crack as blood began to spurt out.
As much as it hurt, I ignored the pain for the sake of Felicity. I made sure the syringe still followed its course as I jabbed her in the neck with it. I quickly injected the cure into her system. She screamed once more before she slowly stopped screaming and thrashing about.
"Robin?" She croaked out just before she passed out. I stood up and walked over to Batman.
"You okay?" I asked him. He had stood up but was leaning against the wall.
"I've had worse," He smiled slightly before gesture to Felicity, "How is she?"
"She's out right now," I looked over at her sleeping form, "But I think she'll be okay,"
Batman nodded and stood up straight, "Get her out of here. I'll take care of Scarecrow,"
"Are you sure?" I looked at him incredulously.
"Take her back to the Batcave and have Alfred watch over her," He commanded, brushing past me, "I'll call for back up if I need some," And with that, he strode out of the room to hunt down Scarecrow.
I looked down at Felicity, "I'm so sorry Felicity," I knelt down and picked her up bridal style before exiting the warehouse.
Beep. Beep. Beep.
I reached over in a pathetic attempt to turn off my alarm, but instead of hitting my alarm, I hit a person.
"What the?" I sat up quickly. That was not the smartest idea. I winced in pain as the pounding in my head intensified.
"It is all right Miss Hall," A British voice comforted. I looked over to my right to see an elderly gentlemen standing over me.
"W-who are you?" I questioned the man. He had this grandfather kind of feel to him, and well, it was comforting.
"This is Alfred," Robin introduced, appearing out of nowhere on my left. I turned to him to bombard him with questions but stopped. He wasn't wearing his sunglasses.
I kind of lost myself in his brilliant blue eyes until he cleared his throat, "S-sorry," I mumbled as a blush spread across my face.
The only reaction to my staring I got from his was a smirk, "Are you feeling okay?"
"Besides for my head pounding," I admitted, "I feel fine,"
"That's good," Alfred said, smiling at me, "You had quite the amount of fear toxin in your system,"
"Fear toxin?" I looked at him in confusion. I couldn't remember much after Robin and I talking on top of the building.
"Scarecrow's special weapon," Robin explained, pulling up a chair and sitting down next to me.
"Oh," I scrunched my nose, "I… don't recall anything after our talk on top of Wayne Tech,"
"That's normal," A new voice replied. I looked up at where the voice came from to see Batman standing at the end of my bed, "You're mind will attempt to block the memories the fear gas created. It's a natural defense mechanism,"
"Will I ever remember them?" I wasn't sure if I wanted to recall what had happened to me or not.
"In due time maybe," He admitted, "But for now, get some rest," Batman smiled at me.
"Sounds good to me," I mumbled. I felt like I could sleep for a thousand years. I felt Robin squeeze my hand before he followed Alfred and Batman out of the room I was in.
Within a few minutes, I was out like a light.
A/N: I hope you guys think this was a good chapter. I don't know where this came from but I kind of really love the Scarecrow and wanted to do something with him. So this happened :'D
