Merry Christmas everyone and happy holidays! As promised here is your Christmas chapter. As I was reading it I realized that it not that Christmas oriented, but I think that you will all like it. I'm planning on putting up a New Years chapter, but that might to late. My apologies, I forgot that I was going to be on a plane for most of that day. Anyways I hope that you enjoy and let me know if you like/don't like something. I got a great suggestion of doing a chapter with Spencer and Sid to get to know them better. If you want chapters on certain characters/relationships let me know! Love you guys!
Chapter 21
Spencer's POV
"Hey grandma," I said walking into the kitchen. I couldn't sleep last night, so I got up. I usually don't get up until ten or eleven, unless forced to. When I entered the kitchen it was just my grandma sitting in a chair, drinking her coffee.
"Good morning sweetie. Why are you up so early?"
"Couldn't sleep," I said opening the fridge, looking for something to eat.
"Your parents went out to get stuff for the party this afternoon." I glanced down at my watch; it was Christmas. How could I forget that it was Christmas!
"It's alright dear, Merry Christmas," she said getting up and giving me a hug.
"Thanks, gran, I can't believe that I forgot," I said racking my brains. It was probably because I was thinking about Ashley for the past twenty-four hours.
"It comes with old age," she joked.
"Great…"
"So will I be getting to meet this amazing girl of yours?" she asked.
"Of course gran, she's coming to the party this afternoon."
My Gran and I talked for a little while, before she went to go wake up Grandpa. I slipped back upstairs to my room. It was seven o'clock. I glanced out my window; Ashley's room was dark, so I'm guessing she was still sleeping. I noted to myself that I needed to wish Ashley a Merry Christmas before she came over. Since there was nothing else that I could think of doing, I hopped into the shower. When I went downstairs my parents were back and had boxes of food and various other things. I guess this is what you have to do if you want to host a party. My mother handed my a box of light and other decorations and put me to 'good use'.
Ashley's POV
I rolled over in bed and groaned when there was no one next to me. I really missed Spencer by my side in the morning. I hauled myself out of bed and made my way downstairs. My parents and grandparents were already up and eating. Sid was in the living room watching the morning cartoons as usual.
"Ashley," I heard him say before I got to the kitchen. He beckoned me towards me.
"What's up," I said taking a seat next to him.
"I let something slip," he said honestly.
"SID!" I said a little louder than I intended. I got a few stares from the family, before they returned to eating their breakfast.
"I'm sorry Ashley, it just slipped. She asked me a question and I just answered without thinking," he said putting his hands on his head in remorse.
"What did she ask you?," I asked praying that it wasn't that important.
"She asked how long you two had been dating, and then she flipped out when I told her that it was a year…and then she started asking mom all these questions." Yup, that was just the question that I was hoping we could all avoid. My Nana is just that type of person that has some issues with the topic of sex. She thinks that you should only commit yourself to one person…after your married. But, I guess she doesn't know that I lost my virginity to Madison, because we tried to keep that a secret. I guess she thinks that Spencer and I are not being responsible adults.
"Shit…" I said, before covering my mouth, "sorry."
"It's okay Ashley. It's my fault; I shouldn't have said anything."
"It's fine Sid, it was bound to come out sooner or later," I said ruffling his hair, "Thanks for letting me know."
I walked into the kitchen and my Nana gave me the eagle eye. I felt them trace my every move. I was a little nervous now for Spencer, because my Nana can get scary sometimes. Note to self, warn Spencer. I quickly shoveled down my breakfast before heading back upstairs. When I glanced out my window, I noticed that Spencer was outside with her dad putting something up. I couldn't tell what it was, probably something for the party.
I hopped into the shower and washed down, then changed into sweats and sweatshirt. I rummaged through my draw trying to find something nice to wear. I must have gone through my entire wardrobe, until I finally settled on black skinny jeans and a sweater. It was one o'clock by the time I got everything sorted out. I grabbed my phone off the nightstand and called Spencer. It's weird that even though we live like literally right next to each other, we still call each other.
"Hey baby."
"Hey Ash," I heard her chipper voice through the phone.
"Merry Christmas."
"Merry Christmas to you."
We talked for a short while longer until Spencer had to go, but I got in the word that my Nana would be coming after her, so watch out.
A few hours later, I found myself standing in front of my parents and Sid. We had gathered up all the presents into a bag. Cars had already started to line up along our street, but my grandparents like to be 'fashionably' late. We waited around for like twenty minutes after we were suppose to be there, until we actually left the house.
We arrived at the Carlin's late, of course, everyone was already in there socializing. In fact, I knew almost everyone in the room, besides a few family members. I saw Emily and Carmen sitting on the couch together.
"How are you two lovebirds doing today," I asked putting my hands on my hips and trying to look serious.
"Amazing, where's your other half?" Carmen asked, noticing that Spencer wasn't with me. I hadn't seen Spencer since I got here.
"I was just on my way to go find her," I said giving them a smile before leaving. I felt my pocket vibrate
Spencer: come upstairs
I made up past the crowded staircase. I wandered along the hallway, until I felt someone pull me a room. A pair of lips attacked mine; I instantly recognized them as Spencer's. I missed the feeling of her kisses, even though it had only been two days, but that's two whole days.
"I missed you," I heard her breathe out.
"I missed you too," I said before taking her lips into another long make out session.
We jumped apart when there was a knock at Spencer's door.
"I know you two are in there," I heard Carmen's voice, "You might want to come down. I think your grandmothers are looking for you."
We heard Carmen go back down the stairs. Great, I guess it's time for the interrogations to begin. We fix our hair and clothes before making out way down the stairs. We didn't even make it down the stairs before my Nana found us. Oh shit.
"Ashley, aren't you going to introduce me?" she asked folding her arms.
"Um… Nana this is Spencer, Spencer this is my grandmother."
"It's nice to meet you," Spencer said shaking my Nana's hand.
"Spencer dear, do you have a minute," my Nana asked waving her hand in some other direction.
"Yeah," Spencer hesitated. She looked at me before she was dragged away. I would have gone with her, but my Nana shook her head when I tired. I never understand why family takes dating this seriously, because guaranteed during our life times we are probably going to date more than like three people.
I went back and rejoined the rest of the crowd. I eventually found Emily and Carmen over by the food.
"Hey where'd Spencer go?" Emily asked taking a bite out of her tart.
"My Nana got a hold of her," I said grabbing some food.
"Ouch," I heard Carmen say. She's right about one thing.
Spencer's POV
I followed Ashley's grandmother over to some empty chairs. When we sat down I could see Ashley at the food table talking to Carmen and Emily. When I caught her eye, she gave me a sympathetic look. Little did she know that my grandmother was approaching her.
"So Spencer tell me about yourself?"
"Um well I'm 18. I'm a senior at King High, and I play lacrosse…I mean what else do you want to know about me?"
"You play lacrosse with Ashley?"
"Yes, she's an excellent team player," I said thinking of the first thing that popped into my head.
"I'm just going to cut to the chase. To my knowledge you have been dating for a year," she said tapping her knuckles on the chair.
"Yeah, just a little over a year"
"I care about my Ashley very much, I just want to make sure that you're the right girl for her."
"I understand completely."
"So Spencer have two been having sex," she said with the most straightforward face. I guess it was my turn to endure this part.
"No we haven't."
"That meaning that you haven't ever had sex with Ashley or that you haven't had sex in a while." What the hell are these types of questions, these are like really personally questions. Who even asked their grandchild's girlfriend these questions?
"No meaning that I haven't ever had sex with anyone," I said as politely as I could.
"Oh…I see." I waited a minute for her to respond.
"So do you love my Ashley?"
"More than you can even imagine; I don't think that I can go a day without thinking about her."
She asked me more questions. When Ashley said that her Nana wasn't going to go easy, she wasn't going to go easy.
"You seem like a good girl Spencer," she said finally, "you care, I can see that. I think that you're going to make my Ashley a very happy women."
"Thank you."
"But, if you break my Ashley's heart, you will be regretting it for the rest of your life."
"I don't ever plan on doing that."
Ashley's POV
I managed to get out of a conversation with Spencer's gran, because it was time for her afternoon nap or something, maybe she had to take her afternoon pills. I kept my eye on Spencer the whole time that she was talking to my Nana. The conversation seemed to be going well, because they ended up hugging it out at the end, and they both left with smiles on their faces.
"I hope that she wasn't too hard on you," I said as Spencer approached.
"I guess it makes us even, seeing as my parents asked you the exact same questions." She gave me a quick peck on the lips.
We reentered the party. Spencer introduced me to the rest of her family members. I meet Clay and his girlfriend, Chelsea, I always met Glen's fiancé, which made me very sad. Spencer's family was extremely welcoming to me, and mine to Spencer's. Around six o'clock we all sat down and had a classic ham dinner, which I might add was amazing. The ham was delicious; Spencer's family can really cook.
"Present time?" Arthur suggested putting his plate away. All the children cheered; well it was just Sid and Noah.
"All right, adults in that room, anyone under 21 in the other room," Paula said pointing to the different room. All the teenagers booed, because we knew that they were going to be drinking. I guess Spencer's parents know better than to let us near the alcohol. Parents suck, but Spencer told me that we all eventually come back together, to give the children and parents their gifts, or something
Spencer, Emily, Carmen, and I followed Sid and Noah into the family room. We all grabbed our bags of gifts. I took a seat next to Spencer on one of the sofas. I tossed Emily her gift, and gave Carmen an extra gift that I had gotten, but didn't know what to do with it. I didn't get Noah a gift, because you know, I don't know him that well and everything. I threw Sid his present.
"Here," I said handing the little box to Spencer.
"Ashley…" she said taking it gently.
"Merry Christmas Spencer," I said giving her a kiss.
"Merry Christmas to you too Ashley," she said handing me a box as well.
After we had passed out all the gifts, I ended up with a small pile in front of me, along with everyone else. I decided to save Spencer's present for last. Emily had gotten me a new sports bag, because literally a few strings were holding mine together. Carmen got me netting for my lacrosse stick, and Sid got me my favorite candies and calf socks. When I looked over at Spencer, I noticed that she also hadn't opened my present.
"I'm going to warn you right now, my present kinda of sucks. I got you something for our anniversary, but you said that all you wanted was my love, and then you fell asleep before I could even give it to you, and then we were both busy and yeah. So I put in something else, to make it more Christmasy, but it's still your anniversary gift."
I carefully unwrapped the box that she had given me. I pulled out a deck of card that she had written, '52 reasons why I love you' and a smaller box. I'm guessing that the cards were the Christmas part of the gift. I gently opened the smaller box; inside there was a small silver ring. When I took it out, there was a small engraving in the back, 'AD + SC "for the one who stole my heart". I took it out of the box and placed it on my left ring finger.
"It's perfect," I said capturing Spencer's lips with mine.
I watched as she began to open her gift. When she opened the box, she let out a small gasp. Her fingers ran over the metal, before she pulled out of the box. She turned it over and smiled as she read the inscription, "There is only one happiness in life –to lover and to be loved. Je t'aime de tout mon coeur, pour toujours."
"I Love you with all my heart, forever and always," I said giving her a gently kiss on the temple.
"Will you help me?" she asked holding out the hand. I took the bracelet and gently wrapped it around her wrist. After that she pulled me into a tight hug. Everyday I feel myself falling for this girl more and more.
"I love you Ashley," she said kissing my lips.
"I love you too Spencer," I said returning her kiss.
"Why don't you two get a room," I heard Emily hoot from the other side of the room.
Spencer and I tried to control ourselves for the rest of the night. About an hour after we finished opening our presents, the adults come into the family room with presents. Everyone ended up with a small pile of presents again.
"Well open up," Paula said motioning to our small piles of presents.
Paula and Arthur got me a Navy sweatshirt, and my parents got me the phone case that I wanted. Spencer got more clothes, a UNC sweatshirt from my parents and some gift cards. I think that this has been one of the best Christmases that I have ever had, and I got to spend it with Spencer and her family.
