Chapter 21: Shocks and Seizures

Becky POV

As Casey and I were walking home after a long day at school, he expressed his thoughts and feelings about how normal it left going back to school, listening to the teachers drone on and getting a load of homework after recent events that could have been life-changing for him.

We continued talking about mundane things as we continued our journey home until he turned to me with a serious expression on his face.

"How have you managed to settle down so quickly?" He asked it as if he had been thinking about this for a long time.

"What?" I questioned, confused as to what he meant.

"You've managed to settle down into school properly, at home as well and with Sasha – you two get on really well," he explained, "It just feels like you've always been here if you get what I mean."

I shrugged as I thought about my answer, "In care we used to move about a lot, from different care homes and to foster families. I quickly got used to living in a different place with different people and it's been quite easy to settle down here."

"Do you like it?"

"Like what?"

"Living here in the Bay?" he questioned.

"Yeah I do," I answered truthfully, "It's a lot different to everywhere else I've stayed but in a good way. When we were in Melbourne, it felt like home – just me and Kyle. But here in Summer Bay, I didn't even realise what we were missing out on and it feels like a proper family."

"That's because we are," he told me, "All of us, we're a family."

He put his arm around me and hugged me to his side. I meant everything I said, being in the Bay, it just felt right, it felt like home.

"You know, I never thought I wanted another sibling, but now that you're here, like I said it's like you've always been here and it's nice to have someone else around."

"What about Kyle?" I questioned. After the court case and Kyle getting arresting, Kyle and Casey had been more civil to each other but they weren't quite at the 'best friends' stage yet.

"I don't know," he answered, "I meant everything I said before, but I just think it's gonna take time. Don't tell him this but I'm kind of glad he kidnapped him, otherwise we never would've known about you two."

"Don't worry," I reassured him, "My lips are sealed."

"For once everything's going well," Casey said, "I mean I'm not facing a prison sentence, Heath and Bianca are happy, I've got Sasha, you and Kyle are here and Brax is just glad that there's no trouble."

"Let's just hope it says that way!"

3rd Person

Casey and Becky were walking up to the door of the share house when they heard raised voices coming from Heath's flat. They raised their eyebrows at each other before walking in.

"I'm telling you it's not meant to go there!" Brax said.

"Well where else is it meant to go then?" Heath asked, clearly annoyed.

"You're both wrong, it's meant to go over here!" Kyle pointed out.

The younger siblings stood laughing in the doorway causing their three older brothers to look up and acknowledge their presence.

"What are you three doing?" Casey asked.

"Trying to build a bookcase," Heath explained.

"Emphasis on trying," Becky chipped in as she looked at them sitting on the floor with many different sized pieces around them.

"Why do you need a bookcase?" Casey questioned.

"Bianca's been after one for a while and I thought it'd be a nice surprise after her first day back at work," Heath explained.

"Who knew Heath could be so thoughtful?" Casey teased.

"Shut up Case," Heath said, not in the mood.

"Have you looked at the instructions?" Becky asked, trying to be helpful.

Heath just looked at Becky and said in a sarcastic tone, "No, we just decided to get the pieces and see where they fit best. Of course we looked at the instructions, not that they made any sense."

"Well good luck, you're gonna need it," Becky said before going next door followed by Casey who went straight to the kitchen after dumping his bag near the door as Becky switched the TV on and began to flick through the channels.

"Becky you want anything?" Casey called before drinking some juice straight from the carton.

"Becky," he called again when all he got in reply was the noise from the TV as he moved out of the kitchen only to see an empty couch.

Becky had been on the couch but now she was on the floor, her body was jerking violently against the floor and her eyes were closed. Casey froze as he looked at the scene in front of him, he didn't know what to do.

Luckily, Brax and Kyle were making their way to the share house.

"Do it yourself then Heath!" Kyle called as they left Heath's flat.

"He's gonna find it hard to do without this," Brax laughed as he held up the screwdriver before hiding it in the hallway.

As the two of them entered the share house, all they could hear was the TV blaring and a regular thumping against the floor; both of them quickly noticed Becky was having a fit.

Kyle instinctively ran over to his sister, in a calm manner rather in a panic, and got a cushion from the couch and gently placed it under her head to prevent her from banging her head against the floor. He quickly examined her mouth and checked that her airways were clear. Then he looked at his watch and made a mental note of the time.

Brax sprang into action quickly as well; he started to push the couch backwards to allow Becky and Kyle to have more space.

"Case," Brax said, trying to get his younger brother's attention, "Case, move the table."

Casey snapped out of his thoughts when he heard his name being called. He did as he was told and moved the table away, increasing the amount of space around Becky.

Kyle remained beside his sister as he slowly stroked her hair, as her body jerked involuntarily against the floor. He looked up at Casey and asked, "How long has she been like this?"

"Umm…" Casey struggled to answer, "Not long, about ten – maybe twenty – seconds, I was in the kitchen and she didn't reply when I asked her if she wanted anything and then she was just on the floor like this. I… I didn't know what to do… I mean, I just froze, I'm sorry."

"It's fine Casey," Kyle reassured his brother, noticing that he was getting in a bit of a state, "Don't worry about it."

"You want me to call an ambulance mate?" Brax asked after turning the TV off.

"Nah there's no need," Kyle answered as he looked at his sister again, noting that the seizure was almost over, the jerks weren't as frequent – they were slowing down.

"Oi, which one of you goons took the screwdriver?" Heath shouted as he came into view.

He noticed the change in the layout of the room, the couch closer to the back of the room and the table much closer to the TV. Then, he noticed Becky on the floor with Kyle beside her and Casey and Brax watching at the side.

"Is she alright?" Heath asked, clearly worried about his little sister's wellbeing, the stolen screwdriver long forgotten.

"Yeah, she's fine," Kyle told him as he continued to stroke his sister's hair, his way of reassuring her and telling her that he was there, even if she wasn't conscious.

Finally, when Becky had completely stopped moving and the seizure had come to an end, Kyle glanced at his watch again – noting that it had been just less than two minutes – and he gently moved her into the recovery position and then checked her airways again.

He then took Becky's hand into his and with the other hand he continued to stroke her hair in an affectionate manner, waiting for her to regain consciousness.

"When's she gonna wake up?" Heath questioned, he was impatient and didn't like the silence in which they were in.

"Just give her a couple of minutes," Kyle told him.

Just like Kyle had said, after a few minutes of silence, he felt some pressure on his hand. He squeezed back gently, letting Becky know that he was here and whispered, "Hey," as he moved her hair out of her face.

Slowly, Becky opened her eyes to see her brother in front of her and whispered back, "Hey."

"You okay?"

"Yeah," she replied, "I'm good."

"Need a hand?" Heath asked as he put a hand down to help her up.

"Not yet," she responded, "Just give me a minute."

"Okay," Heath said.

"You want some water?" Brax asked.

"No I'm okay thanks," she replied.

After another minute, she accepted Heath's help and got up off the floor.

"Is your head okay?" Casey questioned, speaking for the first time since she had woken up.

"Yeah its fine thanks," she told him, "Just a bit sore but that's normal."

"I'm really sorry," Casey apologised as he looked down in shame, "I just froze when I saw you like that... I just didn't know – "

"Its fine Casey," Becky cut him off, "It's not your fault," she smiled.

"Built your bookcase then?" Becky questioned, desperate to get the attention away from her and what had just happened.

"Not yet," Heath replied as he remembered why he had come in the first place, "Because someone took my screwdriver."

"Are you saying you need our help Heath?" Brax smirked.

"No," Heath said, "I just need the screwdriver; I know you and Kyle took it."

"So you need our help to find it?"

"Just give me the screwdriver!"

Laughing, Brax retrieved it from where they had hidden it in the hallway.

"If you wanna get it done before Bianca gets home, just accept their help and follow the instructions properly," Becky advised, stifling a yawn, prompting Kyle to say, "Go and get some rest, I'll come check on you in a bit."

"Alright," Becky agreed before leaving for her room.

"After a fit, she usually gets tired and just wants to sleep it off," Kyle explained to his brothers as he helped them put the furniture back to normal.

"So do you need our help then Heath?" Brax laughed as they went across the hall.

Heath weighed up his options, he did want it to be ready for when Bianca came home so he swallowed his pride and said, "Well don't just stand there, make yourselves useful and help me make some sense of these instructions!"

Becky POV

It was Saturday morning and I was the only one in the kitchen, eating my breakfast when there was a knock on the door.

"Becky, tell Sash I'll be two minutes!" Casey shouted from his bedroom. He was going to spend the day with Sasha, his way of saying thank you for all the support she had given him. From what they had both told me, they were going to the cinema and then out for a meal.

"Okay!" I shouted back before opening the door, expecting to see the friend who I had gotten close to over the past few weeks.

"Oh Tamara," I said when I saw her on the other side of the door. I hadn't seen Tamara since the small gathering in Angelo's to celebrate Casey's verdict. I had just presumed that she had left town, after all, she had only come to give evidence for Casey.

I could tell that Tamara wasn't very pleased that I had been the one to answer the door, "Is… Is Casey in?"

"Yeah, yeah he is," I told her as I stepped back and opened the door wider, "Come in."

"Case," I shouted.

"What?" Casey shouted back.

"Come here!"

I heard him sigh and the volume of his voice increased as he got closer to us, "I told you I'd only be a second."

He pulled his t-shirt over his head and then he saw Tamara, "Oh, Tamara, hi."

"Hi," Tamara replied, "I was just wondering if we could talk."

"Yeah sure," Casey said as he glanced at me.

"Fine," I sighed, getting the hint, "I'll go get changed."

3rd Person

"Do you want anything to eat or drink?" Casey offered.

"No I'm okay thank you," Tamara replied, "I just came to let you know that I'm leaving town today."

"What?"

"There's no reason for me to be here Casey," she told him.

"What about me though?"

"You've got your family and your girlfriend," she reminded him, "You don't need me, I only came to help you out in court and I've done that. I should've gone straight after that."

"Tamara I am so grateful that you helped me, I can't thank you enough, and I want you to stay, please," Casey pleaded.

"There's nothing for me here," she repeated.

Casey pleaded again, "Please Tamara," and then he closed the distance between the two of them and kissed her.

They heard a noise so they both broke apart and looked over at the door only to see Sasha there, with her hand across her mouth and tears gathered in her eyes. It was evident that she had witnessed the kiss.

"Sasha," Casey said as he looked between his girlfriend and the girl he just kissed, "I can explain –"

"Don't bother," Sasha cried as she ran off, letting the tears roll down her face freely.

Thank you for reading. What did you think? Would love to hear your thoughts about Casey, Tamara and Sasha

I hope you think the way I wrote about the seizure was okay

I know that many people expected Becky to have a seizure straight after her brothers found out but that was too coincidental for my liking

Also, I just wanted to show that Becky has had epilespy since she was a baby so she hasn't really known anything different and having fits is a normal thing whereas if she had been diagnosed when she was older, it would be different. I just wanted to show that it is a normal thing for her and that she is used to it and she knows how to deal with it as does Kyle
