Chapter 21: Not Fade Away
The visit had not gone well, to say the least. Kaname insisted that the only civilized thing to do at this point in order to salvage relations between the Moon Dorm and the Vampire Council was to cut the visit short and send the senator on his way, and Ichiou had reluctantly agreed. Kaname had demanded that she, Aidou, and everyone else of the night class return to their rooms, however, they had strangely been let off without punishment.
She wondered if she should be worried, but somehow, sleep had overwhelmed her, still not having touched the blood tablets. Her appetite had abandoned her today. Aura snuggled closer into the sheets, and she reveled in the feeling of the warmth securing her. Maybe in her dreams she would find some peace… her eyes dropped close as sleep began to overwhelm her, carrying her away into a world of her own devising.
It was still dark when she woke, and for a moment she wondered what had woken her. Then, a scent reached her nose and she was awake in a heartbeat. It was blood. And it came from outside her room. Impossible. The Academy and Sun Dorms was a lengthy distance from the Moon Dorms. How in the worlds could anyone ever get up here? She must still be dreaming.
But then she realized something, this was not human blood…it was vampire blood. Her mind was racing now. Someone…must be hurt inside the walls of the Moon Dorm. It did not matter how it happened, what mattered now was whom it belonged to.
Aura was on her feet, right beside her bed. She held out her dagger as she tried to sniff it out. She was hoping that with her sense of smell, she could figure out where the smell of blood originated. Aura took a few sniffs and then circled around the room. She went outside the room and sniffed the air. It made her nauseous.
Carefully picking her way along the corridors her hand clenched in a fist around the anti-vampire weapon now hidden under her skirt. No one made any noise or indication that they noticed the blood- obviously bigger things were going on than she realized. Following the smell of blood she found herself back at the top of the staircases and from there was able to navigate to the source of the blood- The Pureblood's office.
Then she stopped. She saw Souen Ruka slumped completely against Akatsuki Kain's chest!
"Wow." Was all she said.
They froze as soon as the words came out of a very familiar voice and turned. When Ruka looked over to see the owner of the loud voice she almost had a heart attack.
"Kaibara, what are you doing here?" The casual manner of the red head's tone was throwing Aura for a loop. He asked the question like she had just walked in on them getting ready for afternoon tea or a morning stroll in the garden not embracing in the middle of the hallway! She had been lead to believe that Akatsuki of all people would have some shame but now looking at the tall vampire with his thick wild orange hair leaning against the wall while supporting Ruka against his chest in an intimate manner, Aura wanted to mentally slap herself.
Instead of answering right away, she simply turned around and shook her head in disbelief. She tried to appear as if she was admiring a nearby painting instead, but failed miserably, as her eyes were invariably drawn back towards them again. Way to go, Aura. You ruined the romantic moment between them.
"Sorry, I didn't mean to… interrupt." Aura tried to recover from the shock.
Just as Ruka turned to question what she meant, she realized she still had a death grip on Akatsuki's blazer, and she also realized the position they were in. Releasing it, she shoved away from the tall red-haired vampire's chest. She stood at an appropriate distance away from Akatsuki, his hands crossed over his chest as he looked away from her in an attempt to relieve her of her embarrassment. Ruka, on the other hand, held her calm expression as she looked at the floor and continued to blush. Akatsuki didn't seem affected by it, since he had gotten used to Ruka's pride over simple things like that. It was something that had been repeated many times, anyway.
Aura's eyes was glancing at her, kind of worried about how the toffee haired girl was now more than one minute just staring at her with tears in her eyes, speechless.
"Is she ok? Aura asked the red-head with a concerned look on her face. Aura was used to the Ruka who was always scheming and saying rude things but it amazed her to see her crying, but even though she disliked Ruka it was not funny seeing her in this vulnerable state.
"I…I'm fine. It's none of your business." Ruka said rapidly, wiping her eyes, squinting her eyebrows and a frown forming on her lips, astonished about what just happened.
"It doesn't seem like it." The blue eyed girl said.
Putting her hands on her hips, Aura swept her glance over her strange pair of friends. They were mostly acting innocent, but she could sense some blood emanating from one of them. The wild-looking guy with spiky light-orange hair or the fair-skinned elegant lady with toffee colored hair? She further pinpointed the source of the blood to be more directed toward the Dorm President's office behind them. How could that be? Ah, of course, she thought as she probed further. It probably has something to do with Kaname. I can smell blood, a little of it. Things like this seem to happen all the time creating disturbances…ugh! Typical vampires.
Aura started bombarding Akatsuki and Ruka with questions they didn't want to answer.
What did you two talk about?
Is there something wrong with Ruka?
Where did that blood come from?"
Aura sniffed the air looked at Ruka suspiciously, "Wait a minute…" she said, her eyes narrowing. She then walked over and began sniffing Ruka's head, much to her and Akatsuki's confusion, "What are you doing" she asked, concerned as she pushed her away from her, weirded out that she had just sniffed her hair. Aura had tumbled backwards into Akatsuki, but instead of acting upset that Ruka had pushed her, she just looked livid, "Your hair smells suspiciously of a metallic aroma." She said, then glared at her darkly, "What did you do, Ruka!?" She growled prepared to pounce but was stopped by a hand grabbing her shoulder from Akatsuki.
Akatsuki looked at her uncomfortable, "Geez, calm down." He turned to Aura, "You do realize Dorm Presidents room is down the hall right?"
"What's your problem?"
Akatsuki shrugged, looking away from the level-C vampire. His face had gone almost expressionless.
"Nothing really. You two were giving me a headache, that's all." He continued, adding in a lower voice, "You're so noisy."
"You're a real piece of work," Aura snorted back, pulling her arm away. "You're the one hugging women in the hallway." She pointed at the tall vampire. "I must admit, I expected this much from Aidou but from you of all people? I expected much better from you Akatsuki."
Akatsuki shoved his hands into the pockets of his pants. It was clear that he wouldn't win, so he just gave in.
"Whatever."
However, as Akatsuki turned towards to leave he tilted his head looking over his shoulder. It seemed that Akatsuki had gotten tired of this conversation.
"I'll be heading back now."
"Yeah, perhaps we should." Aura nodded in agreement. It is getting rather late, isn't it? I suppose I will see the both of you tomorrow again."
As Akatsuki began walking away, Ruka and Aura remained were they stood. A few minutes passed before Ruka, too, said her goodbyes, yet before she could go anywhere, Aura called out to her.
"Ruka, wait. I'll walk you back to your room."
The elegant female vampire stopped dead in her tracks, not looking at her.
"I'm fine." Ruka took a deep breath and let it out slowly. She was ashamed at her loss of control. That was unacceptable. With a flick of her wrist, she flipped her hair over her shoulder. She glanced back at Aura. "There's no need to follow."
"Tsk tsk tsk…No need to be rude then." Aura's eyes were glanced towards Ruka's pissed off face and smiled. "Karma really does exist, no?" signifying the times when Ruka was mean to her. "But of course our rooms are right across from each other anyway."
"Don't remind me." Ruka glared.
No words were exchanged amongst them, but they both seemed to know what the other was thinking. Aura then looked over at Ruka. They walked side by side while the pale haired girl seemed to be in deep thought. Ruka glanced down; a deep frown marred her pretty features.
"Are you ok?" She kept on asking Ruka questions to see what was wrong with the female vampire, but the most she got out of her was silence.
Something happened earlier in the Moon Dorm. Aura was sure of it. Ruka seemed to be stressing to her that she is only avoiding her because of what had happened between her and Akatsuki in the hallway; she didn't want Aura to ask about it. She made it clear that she didn't want her to think that something happened and avoiding her for other reasons…like Kaname perhaps.
"Hey, look did something happen?" Aura asked carefully.
Aura looked at her. Was Ruka going to ignore her? Aura had a feeling she still didn't trust her. None of them did. If she was feeling troubled about something, but doesn't trust her, she wished Ruka wouldn't keep silent and just tell her. Aura didn't know how much longer she could handle if Ruka continued to ignore her.
"We're here." She said simply. Ruka didn't look at her. Her expression remained unfazed. She was surprised that the level-C vampire was even helping her. Let's not forget, everyone hates her.
"Did you hear me? Ruka?" Aura said more harshly.
"I heard you the first time!" she bit back.
Aura resisted the urge to punch Ruka right in her stomach knowing it would get her nowhere with the other girl. In fact it would probably just give Ruka what she wants. "Didn't I tell you not to follow me? I don't need help from a lowly commoner like you," Ruka said in a hateful voice. Aura lost it and went up to Ruka who was looking at her with a menacing look. Aura slapped her. Hard. Aura didn't know what came over her. Her pride suddenly got the better of her and could see nothing, but red.
"Get off your high horse, Ruka." Ruka looked up at Aura in utter shock. Aura had always wanted to slap that bitch Ruka but had never gotten the chance until now. Ruka's hand flew to her now red cheek. For someone who was so lowly Aura hit quite hard. Ruka found herself surprised at the amount of pain she was feeling in her right cheek. "Look… We may not have gotten on a good start, or never been friends for that matter. On top of that, you probably hate me." Aura said seriously. Ruka didn't say a word, however, so Aura tried again. "I know you don't trust me for whatever reason, but surely you must see that I am only trying to help you. Besides, we both know whose blood that was and where it came from." Aura walked away from Ruka.
Aura took one step towards the door before Ruka said, "Wait." Aura stopped but didn't turn back around, and Ruka asked, "…Please." The dark haired girl gave an annoyed look, but moved aside. She knew that if she refused to let Ruka pass she wouldn't be able to figure out what happened with their Dorm President. She may dislike Ruka, but it was worth the trouble. "Come in," Aura said dryly still upset about the previous insult. Ruka walked through the door as she passes by Aura and into the bedroom. The two girls remained silent and simply responded by glaring at each other. "You sound like you could use a friend. Anything you want to talk about?" Aura asked. Ruka immediately sat down on Aura's bed without even asking permission causing Aura to sigh. The air in the room was tense and the girls didn't seem pleased with each other's presence.
"Um, sorry about that. I said those things without thinking." Ruka said in an apologetic manner.
"Obviously," Her new friend said, "What's going on?"
"Ruka shook her head. "You don't want to hear about my troubles."
"If I didn't want to, I wouldn't have asked," The ebony haired girl said with a smile as she sat down on the bed next to her. "You know what I do when I'm upset? I punch my frustration out on pillows. Want to try it?"
"Only someone impulsive like you would do that, but it wouldn't work for me," Ruka grumped.
"Talk to me. You sound like you could use a friend and I've been told I'm a good listener," the other girl said.
"I…I had offered my blood to Kaname-sama because he hasn't been acting like himself," she whispered bitterly as if she didn't want anyone else to hear her words. Her tears began to fall down her face. One by one they dropped on her tan pants but Ruka didn't wipe them. Aura looked at her with an expressionless face. Is that what she had been reduced to? She, who was admired for being strong and proud by friends, family and even fans, was sitting around crying. Without warning she scooted next to her. She embraced her in a warming way. Ruka didn't seem to mind too much to push away, and she was too exhausted to get angry at her. Ruka hid her face in her shoulder and a whimper broke from her, to be muffled in the toffee hair that had always reminded Aura poignantly of a dull and worn out wash cloth. It isn't like Ruka to act this way… Ruka slowly let go of her and wiped the remaining tears off her face.
"I'm such a fool… Kaname-sama didn't even want my blood. He refused it." Her voice was quiet and sad, almost pathetic.
Ruka told Aura the whole story about her encounter with Kaname and how he had once desired her blood when she first came to Cross Academy, including the part that was the first and last time. Kaname's betrayal was nothing less than heartbreaking. He might have handled it better if he hadn't drunk her blood in the first place. His actions and words were the result of Ruka's anger and hurt. It was arrogant and childish to treat her like he did, to take her blood and not take responsibility for it would break any female vampire's heart. But it confused Aura, Kami did it confuse her that he chosen someone like Yuki over Ruka. And she couldn't help but laugh at Ruka's own blindness. Of course she'd never had a chance in the first place. It was her own selfish feelings for confusing a simple blood transfusion for actual love.
"There, there, don't cry. No need to cry over the Pureblood. He's a fool not to like you. You're beautiful and intelligent and he's just a jerk to care how you feel about him." Aura glanced sideways awkwardly, uncomfortable talking about relationship crap. "Guys are stupid anyway."
"Kaname-sama is not stupid!" Ruka snapped. Aura just looked at her. Was Ruka defending Kaname again? There where countless times when Kaname had blew Ruka off; she protected and served him, and even put her life on the line for Kaname. She wasn't really sure why Ruka had feelings for him. Kaname had never treated Ruka as an equal or a friend. It was clear that he did not appreciate her. Aura understood a little as she had seen it herself once before, but still Ruka insisted that Kaname was the one she liked.
"You can't seriously still be defending him, can you?" asked Aura in a scandalized voice; Ruka didn't respond. "Ruka! You've got all kinds of boys fawning for you and you still like Kuran Kaname? Come on!"
"That is because… I have liked Kaname-sama for so long to give him up." Ruka admitted. "Besides, It's all because of that clumsy little human Kaname-sama doesn't want my blood anymore."
Souen Ruka was jealous of Cross Yuki. She figured that might be true. But she never thought that Ruka had been carrying a torch for Kaname for far longer than assumed. She'd known Yuki, though she called her more than just a human. Aura considered her a friend. The girl had saved her life, had lent a sympathetic ear to her woes and heard her hopes for the future. The friendship between vampires and humans are a complicated thing. And perhaps it was meant to be that way, but Ruka did not care for the human girl. She held frustration and envy at her very existence, as she also despises her close relationship with Kaname. So Ruka noticed too, huh? The he strange relationship between Kaname and Yuki would leave anyone perplexed.
"I think… You can do so much better! He's creepy, and his hair, and how he dresses, and he's scary and his personality sucks. You should just go out and find yourself a real man. If Kaname isn't into you, who cares? It's his loss. Maybe you can find someone who is." Aura nodded decisively. "Someone like… Akatsuki perhaps?"
Ruka chocked but Aura seemed completely calm, Ruka asked still shocked, "Akatsuki? Don't make me laugh."
"What? Why not? Akatsuki is totally into you."
"I don't know what you're talking about."
Aura raised an eyebrow and crossed her arms, "Oh really? Because by the looks of that hug something is DEFINTIELY going on!"
"Ruka sighed and turned to Aura, "We're just…childhood friends. That's all."
"Aura looked at Ruka and how shocked she was, "THAT'S ALL?!" She slightly calmed herself, "So, what does this mean? Are you two like…together?"
"Of course not! Akatsuki is not like that."
Ruka began to share more about her personal life with her. Aura felt bad for her, because she always seem to be unhappy; her father and mother are part of the senate, and had no time for her, who merely provided a roof over her head, put clothes on her back, and food on the table. She told Aura when she became older she had developed a crush on Kaname before she even entered the Academy. She told her that the only reason she came to Cross Academy was to be closer to Kuran Kaname, because she was in love with him.
Although Aura didn't know that much about her, she liked everything she had learned at this point. Ruka wasn't the easiest person to get along with but she seemed to have a gentle heart when she wasn't busy being a bitch all the time. During her visit, they continued to talk briefly. Shortly thereafter, Ruka had fallen asleep. Aura eased herself off of the bed, careful not to make a sound, which would disturb Ruka. Aura snuffed out of the room.
She marched down the corridor impatiently, just outside a doorway. Takuma was guarding the entry so she couldn't go in.
"I'm going in."
"Now is not the time," was the reply. "There's just a few more hours left till evening…"
Aura was quite angry. Her blonde friend had been surprised when she walked passed him, and true to the dictionary definition of the word she did not care what was happening. All she did known was that there was a crying girl in her room and that it was Kaname's fault. She waited for another few minutes before Takuma shifted, pleading that she should not go inside.
She knocked on the double doors and was startled by the booming echo in the hall. The noise matched her mood and she pounded again, enjoying the sharp pain in her knuckles and the door against the frame.
No answer.
Her arms fell to her side. The powerful wave of anger that had sustained her cross-town march began to build again and her throat tightened.
Is this what it had come to? Was he going to lock himself away forever from the world outside? And put another wall between those that were concerned for him?
Aura's fists clenched and she pounded on the timber again, pausing only long enough to shout at the closed door.
"Kaname! I'm not leaving, so you may as well let me in!"
Reaching for the door handle, she was so startled when the door was actually unlocked. Without thought, pushed by the fear and adrenaline that had been steadily building, she opened the door. Grey, early morning light illuminated the room as she stepped inside. The quietness pressed down upon her like the weight of water and she stood still, straining her ears for the echo of Kaname's voice. But there was nothing.
The office was destroyed. Large craters strewn across the wall, tattered rags of what Aura could conclude was that Pureblood's window curtain littering the floor while Kaname lay weakly in the middle of it all. If she looks further in and even closer, she can see a lamp broken against the desk table, a gust of wind from the approaching storm outside is drafting through the cracked window, making her shiver.
She drew in her breath sharply, clasping her hands over her breast. Seeing Kaname's office in the state that it was almost made her cry out. He had let loose his emotions on every object and wall with without care and he suffered again the tragedy of his broken heart as it had been stabbed with a sharp blow.
She was hesitant as to what to do next until she noticed the pureblood laying on the couch with all the mess of his anger spread around him, the shadowy recesses of room forming a frame for the shaft of clear sunlight that fell on him like a waterfall from the tall windows. Intrigued she cautiously crossed the moonlit room dancing through the moon's shower of silvery glitz. The fear in her heart and soul were not as dark as the pool of blackness of the hard flooring that she now waded across. A few strides brought her to the front of the coffee table where she could make out some features of the pureblood but as of yet not ascertain what it was. The red curtains overhand from the window shielded some of the moons light from masquerading with the pureblood that lay motionless.
Aura's instinct stopped her from venturing any closer to the Pureblood that could very well kill her. Yet would he? The pureblood? He can do a lot of things but killing her for trespassing was a bit farfetched. Still she was hesitant.
As fear invested in the bank of her mind, she, for reasons unknown to her, was pulled towards the pureblood, curiosity getting more of a return than her fear. With her back to the door, her eyes sweeping the room, she crept closer to the Pureblood.
Taking a deep breath she was now at the end of the couch where she could now clearly see the rest of him. Where the overhanging curtain from the window masked the moon's shine from hitting the lower half of the body it now shown brilliantly on the upper half. Her eyes are still taking in his long lanky form, dressed in a black shirt with long sleeves and a few buttons that looked like it had been unbuttoned halfway down the middle of his chest. She couldn't help but find the scene in front of her utterly beautiful, yet so unsettling and it was making her uneasy.
But it was his own face that had her mesmerized. His arm angled over his head, his dark chocolate eyes stared blankly at the ceiling. There was no hint of him being aware of her presence in his brown eyes but there were the tired dark bags on the luminous skin under his eyes. Dark-ebony strands lay tumbled over her shoulders, leaning forward. Was the pureblood asleep? No, his eyes are open. This was not their strong dorm president that was always sure of himself. This was a Kaname who looked as if his life was crumbling around him.
"…Kaname?"
As Kaname became vaguely aware of approaching footsteps, a young woman emerged from the darkened room, a smile forming on her face. She was looking down, her head tilted to one side, but even though her face was largely obscured from him, there was something about her hair, something about the color of her eyes, something about the way she smiled over him that made him feel that he was looking at the sun. For the space of several seconds, a silky woman's voice sounded out. What was she saying?
"Kaname…"
The woman bent forward, allowing Kaname to see her through the gaps between his fingers. A pretty young woman leaned forward in front of him, her face in a caring frown. Her long silver hair framed her face perfectly, contributing to her good looks. Through the veil of his fingers Kaname could just make out that the woman had lavender eyes and flowing hair that lightly drifted behind her.
"Kaname." her voice rippled down Kaname's spine, pushing back the overwhelming despair. In truth, he couldn't see a lot, only the lower part of the woman's face was clearly visible, but he saw her. That woman. She was beautiful. Her pale skin glowing under the moonlight like delicate ivory sculpted in the perfect shapes. He couldn't hold it any longer. He reached out tentatively, desperate to feel the pale and perfect face beneath his long fingers.
He reached his hand up towards her face, trying to gauge the reality of what he was seeing. Slowly…his hand reached up almost…almost touching. Then he'd caught her scent. A familiar scent. When she'd enter a room, he'd caught a glimpse of Kaibara Aura. Confused, he'd withdrawn but still kept a close watch. When she backed away from him, he stared. He hadn't believed his eyes when he'd seen her in the moonlight. He still hadn't been sure it was her until she'd jumped.
Kaname reached for her, grabbing her wrist down in one swift motion. With a crash, the ebony locks of the girl fell onto the couch, on her back. Her combat reflexes alerted her to an incoming threat as she backed up slightly from the Pureblood, taking a defensive action. Aura grabbed her anti-vampire weapon, swiping her dagger through the air. She pointed the tip at Kaname, her heavy breaths echoing through the room. Kuran Kaname. He had finally showed his true colors. Just kill him. Aura thought.
With a blink of an eye, he had already caught the dagger inches away from his neck. His hand began tightening on Aura's wrist, his touch burning her skin slightly, causing her to grit her teeth in pain. The dagger fell to the side, distracting her for a second. Aura's blade clattered onto the floor where she'd stood a second ago. And before she could react, he leaned forward, closing the distance between them. He didn't stop until he was mere inches away.
He lifted his fingers to her cheek, and his soft thumb drew a gentle line down her jaw. His dark brown eyes bore into hers as if he were searching for something. Something familiar. What, she had no clue… Aura sucked in a sharp breath at his boldness but had melted under his touch.
When his thumb reached the end of her jaw, he cupped her chin, titling her head up. "Who are you, really?" he whispered hoarsely. "You have an anti-vampire weapon, yet you don't like a vampire hunter. Nor do I believe you're a female vampire hunter. Then what and who are you?"
Silence settled in.
His face was near enough that the warmth of his breath fanned her.
Never had she looked so deeply into someone's eyes. Aura was helplessly lost.
"Where did you get that anti-vampire weapon, Eos dagger, from?" Kaname inquired, frowning, giving her the chance to tell him about it on her own.
"How did you know the name of my anti-vampire weapon? She whispered. Aura sat there, shocked, not knowing what to think.
"I know about this because I was there when it was created. Ten thousand years ago a pureblood woman created the anti-vampire weapons for humanity and Vampire Hunters to defend themselves from vampires. I was there when this happened. In fact, Artemis and Bloody Rose were originally mine until I had them passed on to the Chairman who then gave them to Yuki and Zero."
Aura didn't understand why a pureblood of all people would want to help humanity. Aren't all Purebloods supposed to be evil? "How were the anti-vampire weapons originally created and why would a Pureblood want to help humans anyway?" Aura didn't believe him.
"It is precisely because that pureblood willing sacrificed her immortal life, and all expectations of happiness from life, for the sake of her unconditional love for humans. She herself suggests that she is 'the mother of anti-vampire weapons,' and hence an offspring of 'human' parents, because she was willing to sacrifice her life 'to die nobly' and to benefit the humans."
So… This dagger was created by a pureblood?" Aura still looked confused.
"I don't care if you knew or even had it in your possession, how did you come to obtain it?"
"It's been passed down from the women in my mother's family for generations." Aura decided to be honest.
But then slowly, deliberately he let go of her. He crossed his arms over his chest put distance between them, leaving her suddenly cold. Aura wrapped her arms across her chest to fight off a shiver.
"That was your punishment," Kaname said ominously, and Aura sank onto the couch breathing hard and thanking Kami he hadn't killed her.
"Punishment?!" Aura couldn't control the waver in her voice and the strange, overwhelming desire to stand close to him again.
Even though he'd put a safe and proper distance between them, his eyes wouldn't let her go.
"I thought it was made absolutely clear that you were to return to your room. Why do you think you can disobey my orders by coming here?" She felt his sideways look and sighed. "Ruka. That's the reason I'm here. Ruka is in my room and is occupying my bed. Because you made her cry."
"Is that all?" Kaname commented, not caring.
Shocked by his comment Aura decided to set him straight.
"Ruka was worried you know." She said her tone utterly informal and Kaname smiles as if to say that she's been worried as well. "Everyone is worried about you, especially during the day hours. Most of the night class stressing and tired. They can barely eat and sleep. Even Takuma can't tell them you'll be alright, because you seem to get worse. We need you to return to classes. You're casting suspicion on yourself and others by laying out. We all want you to act like your usual self, but I know why you want to stay."
Kaname gazed at her for a long moment before chuckling. "You're different than the others…. Why is it I can never tell what you're thinking?"
When he didn't say anything else, she blinked at him questioningly. What? She was startled at his words, but she wasn't sure whether to take that as a compliment of an insult.
"What's going on here?"
Aura turned to see Takuma standing a few feet away at the door, staring at them with a shocked expression plastered on his face.
Aura immediately stood up from the couch.
"Nothing." she blushed.
"Really?" He frowned. "It sure didn't look that way."
Takuma turned to Kaname.
"I was teaching her a lesson about obedience, Takuma. You can relax she's fine."
Aura's clenched her jaw. "I don't have time for this," Aura said. "I'm going back to my room." She grabbed the doorknob and turned to Kaname. "Next time I will really kill you," she said, keeping her voice low. And then she walked out the door.
Aura wasn't sure of the reason Kaname wanted to know about her anti-vampire weapon. He didn't seem interested before now. Had he meant to hurt her, or scare her into telling him? And if that were the case, then it meant that somehow it was important to him. If so, then what exactly was it? Aura continued to think about this but was interrupted from her thoughts.
"Ruka…" Aura uttered.
The female noble turned to her and instantly turned her back and started walking away. Her eyes were full of anger. It was obvious that Ruka was mad at her for being alone with Kaname. She didn't know what to say.
"It's not what you think!"
Ruka kept walking.
"Ruka, wait!" she pleaded.
But she didn't stop.
She stood there and watched her leave knowing she wouldn't believe in her explanation. But really, nothing happened between her and Kaname… or did it?
