"Alright then," said Dr. Jacobs sitting down.
Charlie looked up into Nicole's eyes and said, "I'm so glad you're here Niki."
"I know," she said, "Me too baby."
"Okay here comes another contraction Charlie," said Dr. Jacobs.
"You think I don't know that!" shouted Charlie.
"You really need to push on this one," said the doctor.
"Deep breath, Charlie," coached Nicole, "Good job baby. Keep pushing!"
"First baby's head is just coming into view," said Dr. Jacobs.
"Keep going honey," said Nicole. A baby's cry could be hear shortly afterwards.
"Baby number one," announced Dr. Jacobs putting her on Charlie's chest.
"Oh my God," said Charlie happily, "Happy birthday little one!"
Nicole looked down excitedly and started stroking her daughter's soft brown hair. Even though she had had so many doubts, seeing her baby, soon to be babies, for the first time caused all her doubts about being a mother to fade.
Charlie looked up at Nicole and asked, "Do you want to hold her?"
"Um," said Nicole hesitantly.
"Don't worry Captain, you won't drop her," said Dr. Jacobs, "Just make sure you support her head and neck."
Nicole nodded and Charlie slowly handed her daughter off to Nicole. Nicole looked down into her brown eyes, "Welcome to the world little one."
"Charlie the second baby's ready to come out," said Dr. Jacobs, "Another deep breath and push!"
Charlie did as the doctor said and it wasn't long before the second baby was out and in Charlie's arms. Charlie and Nicole gazed at both of their baby girls with pride, "I can't believe we're Mommies now," said Charlie.
"I know. It's honestly the best feeling in the world," said Nicole.
"And you had your doubts a couple of months ago," said Charlie.
"They look so much alike how are we going to tell them apart?" asked Nicole, "And which one is which right now?"
"Okay, make some sort of noise if you want to be Alyssa?" asked Charlie. The baby in Nicole's arms started fussing a little.
"I think we have a volunteer," chuckled Nicole.
"So this one's Alyssa?" asked Dr. Jacobs.
"Yes Alyssa Charlotte," said Nicole.
"And Hannah Nicole," said Charlie with the other baby.
"Are they named after you girls?" asked Dr. Jacobs, "Or at least their middle names?"
"Yeah, we made a deal to have Charlotte and Nicole as their middle names. I had to please Niki somehow," laughed Charlie as the doctor put the hospital bracelets on each baby.
"Speaking of telling people apart, how are we going to differentiate us?" asked Nicole seriously.
Charlie bit her lower lip, "I guess Mom and Mommy. I don't know."
Dr. Jacobs cleared her throat, "I had a patient who was a surrogate for two gentlemen and their son calls them Daddy and Daddy, so I'm sure they'll be fine with Mommy and Mommy."
"Okay then," said Nicole rubbing Alyssa's head, "That means I'm your Mommy."
"And I'm your other Mommy," said Charlie stroking Hannah's hand, "Um, now that I'm not busy delivering two babies, why are you home Niki?"
"Well General Holden arranged for me to come home a little early so I could be here in time for the birth of the twins. I came home just in the nick of time," said Nicole.
"Well, I'm so glad you made it home in time," said Charlie tearfully.
Nicole smiled and kissed her, "Me too baby. Me too."
The couple heard a knock at the door and Roland poked his head in the room, "Hey, is it okay if I bring some company?"
"Sure," they said.
Roland entered the room along with the Holdens, Denise, Roxy, Jackie, Sophie, and Gloria. They all gushed at the twins simultaneously.
"How did you all know?" asked Nicole.
"I called everyone," said Claudia Joy, "Charlie said it would be okay."
"They look so much alike how are you going to tell them apart?" asked Emmalin.
"That's what I want to know," chuckled Nicole.
"Well, my mother-in-law actually painted my husband's toenails red to tell him and my brother-in-law apart," chuckled Jackie, "Thankfully you have girls, not boys."
"General Clarke is a twin?" asked Roxy in surprise. Jackie nodded.
"To be honest, I still get Dad and Uncle Justin mixed up occasionally," said Sophie.
"You're not alone," said Jackie embarrassedly wrapping her arm around her daughter, "And I'm married to one of them."
"Okay, no offense, but this isn't comforting on not mixing up our daughters," said Charlie.
"How about dressing them in different colors. That's what a lot of parents of multiples have done since I've worked here," said Denise.
Charlie and Nicole looked at each other and nodded, "That works," said Nicole.
"Well, I'm sure you girls want some alone time, so we should probably get going," said Gloria, "See you soon hopefully?"
"I'll try," said Charlie, "But we'll be extremely busy now."
The group left the room quietly, "They're adorable," said Roxy and everyone nodded.
"Maybe I could bring the kids over to spend time with my goddaughters soon?" asked Roland.
"Of course," said Charlie.
"As long as Sara Elizabeth realizes they're not dolls to play with," said Nicole.
"She'll be okay with them," said Roland, "She doesn't play with dolls that much anyways."
"She's definitely Colonel Burton's daughter," chuckled Charlie.
Roland nodded, "Good night you two."
"Good night Dr. Burton," said Nicole, "Good night and good job honey."
"Thank you Niki," said Charlie kissing her.
"And good night Hannah and Alyssa. Mommy loves you girls so much," said Nicole. "Both of your Mommies love you girls so much," said Charlie. Nicole put the girls in their beds in the room and though she wasn't supposed to, curled up in the bed with Charlie. And the couple stayed that way for the rest of the night. Or at least until the first feeding two hours later.
