Chapter 21

Professor: And by popular vote of the one review that answered my question out of the three reviews that appeared on my last chapter….this chapter is dedicated to Link! But on a side note…is it ok for a writer to have fun when writing scenes they know are going to destroy the feels?

Whatever, I don't own these characters or fandoms.

Link sighed as he sat on the floor in the middle of the room. Ten whole minutes in this room and he had never been so bored in his life…and he sat through Aryll's instructions of how to use her spyglass that HE bought for her!

At the thought of Aryll, Link was reminded that she was with the pirates and he had no clue how she was doing. At least he knew that she was safe. If there was anything positive that the inhabitants of the Great Sea could say about Tetra and her crew, it was that they were incredibly loyal and protective of who traveled with them.

'I should write her a letter or something…I know that the Rito Tribe could deliver it…' he thought.

He sighed again and stood up, picking one of the doors at random to go through it. He had been waiting for either Quill, Amy, or Medli to show up, but it was obvious that they weren't going to now. At least, not for a while longer. Might as well go looking for them…

He shrugged and opened the door to see a long hallway.

'How would I start a letter like that?' he mused to himself as he walked down the hallway. Because of this, he didn't notice the moving shadows on the walls or the temperature dropping ever slow slightly.

" 'Dear Aryll,'" he said aloud, " 'Here I am in a Temple trying to power up my sword so I can kill the greatest evil the world has ever seen. How about you?' Nah, doesn't work."

As Link continued down the hallway, two Poes were looking at his receding back. Then, they shared a glance and shrugged, following the green boy.

"How about 'Aryll! Guess what, Amy and Quill and Medli are lost in this Temple and I'm bored. Wish you were here!' …That's just weird."

The hall started to incline downwards and Link just continued to walk, the two Poes growing more agitated as they followed him and their attempts were blocked.

"I suppose I could just say something else… 'Hey Aryll! How's life on the pirate ship? Niko treating you well? I hope so…or at the very least he isn't calling you 'swabbie' like he did with me. As for me, I beat one of the two temples that I needed to and am looking for my other friends in the second one. I think that the Temple is playing tricks on us though…I'm really bored.'"

Link suddenly stopped, "What do you two think about that last one?"

The Poes stopped short and stared at him in shock before he turned around to face them, a playful smile on his face, "Personally, I think that the last one is best, but it sounds WAY TOO rehearsed."

Sharing a look with his friend before responding, the Poe on the right, a dark blue one, asked, "How did you know we were here?"

Link shrugged, "Cold temperature. The legend tells us all about it!"

"Legends?" the other Poe, this one brown, asked.

The small boy nodded, "Yep! Orca used to tell them to me try to scare me when I was little, but it never worked! Although, that could be because Grandma told me legends that showed your weaknesses….and that's why you can't read my mind by the way!" He smiled at them his signature cheesy smile.

The blue Poe glared at him, clenching his fists, "Explain yourself! How are you protected from our powers!"

"I told you," Link shrugged again, "The legends tell us how."

The shadow creatures didn't respond, instead they just continued to glare at him. So Link kept talking.

"Basically, they say that if someone is open and honest and with no deceit or secrets, just a good person in general, and they have a good purpose, the power that the Poes have to invade their mind and use their secrets against them, is powerless because of how good that person is. I didn't know if I was good enough or not, but it was worth a try!"

At his cheesy smile that ended his statement, the brown Poe growled out, "And what about your sister?"

"What about her? Wait, do you think that she wouldn't like a letter?!" Link momentarily panicked at the thought.

"No, idiot!" the blue Poe yelled, "We mean to say that your sister must hate you!"

"Why?" Link seemed generally confused. Aryll was his whole life. Everything he did was to keep her happy and safe. If it wasn't for her, he wouldn't be on this quest right now! How could his little sister hate him?

"You left her in the Forsaken Fortress of course! Then, when you FINALLY save her, you don't even get her out of there! You just handed her off to a bunch of pirates!"

Link's brow furrowed on his face, "How do you know that?"

The Poe smirked, "Your friends aren't pure-hearted like you…We got their memories quite easily and it was shared with all of the Poes in the Temple. In fact, our mother is taking a personal interest in the two lovers that traveled with you. She loves messing with people's emotions…"

Link's gaze hardened within a split second and he rushed forward. Before the Poe could react, Link had grabbed the cloth that hung on the monster's body and yanked him forward so that they were eye-to-eye and whispered, "Where are Quill and Amy? What have you done to them?"

Now normally, no one can touch a Poe. Their hands would just pass right through the creature.

But Link had caught the monster off guard, in that rare moment when he had a solid form. Now though, that the Poe had gathered himself, he turned back into his other form, making Link lose his grip and letting himself escape.

Laughing, he said, "Oh, so we can't read your mind, but if we kill your friends and torture them instead, you'll be tortured as well. This is even better. Just think about it…"

The Poe leaned close to Link and whispered his parting message, "You are so pure and good that we can't read your mind or your emotions…and because of that your friends are going to die."

Link's eyes widened as both Poes disappeared. Within seconds he was running down the hall calling for his friends.

It wasn't long before he came upon a door and opened it without hesitation. Inside, Link found himself on a ledge in a circular room. Below him were five coffins standing against the wall.

He gulped.

The scream was high and piercing, stopping Link from moving for a few vital seconds. In those vital seconds, the ReDead struck Link across the face and hurled him back against the wall. Groaning, Link raised his shield and thought about his next move.

The five coffins had held one ReDead each, as Link had thought. Unlike Poes, the legends of ReDeads HAD scared him as a little kid. As he grew up, he had stopped believing that they existed at all, like all the other people who had heard the legends…but that fear was still there.

When he had met the Poes and realized that the old legends from his childhood were coming to life, he had hoped and prayed that the ReDeads weren't going to come across his path. Of course, that meant that the goddesses had to make him fight FIVE.

AT ONCE.

Luckily, Link took out the first three with a well-placed bomb arrow.

The fourth had put several large scratches into his back before he was able to cut its head off.

And now the fifth was using the scream from the legends to fight him. This scream made anyone in close proximity paralyzed and unable to defend themselves.

The monster continued to walk towards him and Link had to gulp down his fear yet again. Slowly, he backed up until his back hit the wall, making him cringe in pain. Still, the ReDead advanced.

Link looked around the room, although why he did that, he didn't know. A way to escape maybe since he was backed into a corner.

Later, Link would think back to this fight and laugh. The situation was not as bad as it had seemed at the time. His fear had amplified it of course so that he couldn't think straight. The hero had been in far more life threatening situations than this where he had kept a calm head…but put him in front of a ReDead? Nope, complete idiot.

And because of that, he did the most idiotic thing in the world. He threw his sword.

Now, Link was acting very idiotic at the moment, but he was still in enough of his mind to have semi-good aim. And, the goddesses must have been looking out for him because the sword hit its mark.

The dead center of the ReDead's head.

With a puff of smoke, the last ReDead vanished. Breathing out a sigh of relief, Link slid to the floor and gasped in pain, remembering his back. Groaning, he took out one of his four potions and took two swigs of it, just enough to heal his back. They were going to have to really ration these potions in the next few days. And then buy more empty bottles.

While he picked up the Master Sword from the ground, a giant chest appeared on the ledge that he had previously been on. Quick as he could, Link scrambled up the ladder and opened it. Inside was a…mirror shield? Why did he need that?

But he didn't complain. Like the previous Temples, Link just took it. There had to be a reason for it, why else would the goddesses put hidden items in the Temple? It was always an item he would need later anyway.

Trading his shield out, Link then left the room. There were no doors in that circular room and none in the hallway, so Link was going to go try the other door that he had seen in the big main room he started in.

When he got there though, he was surprised. He had just made it to the center of the room when the door opened and Medli walked through it…

Professor: And that's how it's done people! Wrote this all in one sitting, maybe an hour or so. Was in a mood lol. Usually, my chapters take me a couple days….

Well, life is good for me. College is….college and romance/love lives are complicated…. A normal life basically. Wow…wait, I'm normal?!

This is a new feeling….

I don't know how to react….

I know! I will talk about what one of the Poes said in this chapter. Basically, the Poe addressed its 'mother'. Now, I know that a lot of people think that the boss for this Temple is a male, but I find it to be a lot creepier if they are actually a female, at least for the Earth Temple. Also, it kind fits for what I have planned for the storyline. Just go with it. And remember to review! And also, on a side note, I know this is random but I just have to say it...

I really like writing Link in this story :)
