Chapter 21
Family is Complicated
It was sunday afternoon and luckily the power had come back on so everyone was putting up the tree and decorations. Everybody mucked in and afterwards they started looking through loads of christmas cards they had received.
"What does that one say soph" Rachel asked her daughter
Sophie didn't answer just passed it to Rachel to read.
"No you read it out love while I read some others" Rachel told her
"I don't want to" Sophie said to her mum by this time everyone was listening
"Why not huh?" Rachel asked realising something was up
"Because I can't" Sophie said and ran out of the room tears streaming down her face
"Sophie" Rachel called after her daughter while following her out of the room
By the time rachel caught up Sophie had locked herself in the bathroom and was crying her eyes out
"Sophie what's wrong darling come out and we can talk" Rachel pleading with her daughter, she hated seeing her so upset
"No I don't want everyone to laugh at me" Sophie said between gulps of crying
"Nobody will laugh at you love just please let mum in" Rachel said to her
The door unlocked and Rachel walked in to find sophie sitting on the floor her eyes all red from crying she looked up at Rachel and began to cry again. Rachel scooped her up and sat her on her lap
"What's wrong love huh? Why didn't you want to read out the card?" Rachel asked her
"Because I couldn't" Sophie answered sniffling
"Why not though" Rachel asked getting concerned there was something not right and Rachel had to find out what
"Because the writing kept moving about and I couldn't read it" Sophie answered as she started to cry again
Rachel thought back to when Sophie told her she was struggling at school but they had got help for that and the school said she was doing okay now but now that Sophie told her this she knew what it could be and was sure it was, all the signs were there Sophie was dyslexic
"Shh its okay we're going to get you sorted out but we'll need to go and have a special test is that okay?' Rachel asked her daughter, sophie nodded and cuddled into her mum
The next morning Adam and Rachel dropped the two oldest off at school and then took Sophie to go and see a specialist and get a test done to find out if Sophie did have dyslexia.
Nearly three hours the test lasted for and finally it was done
"We'll get the test results back as soon as possible" said doctor coleman
"That's great do you think they'll come back positive?" Rachel asked
"In my professional judgment yes it is more than likely Sophie does have dyslexia" replied the doctor Coleman as her and Rachel looked over to Sophie who was happily playing with adam
"We'll be able to get support set up in her school and you'll have to attend regular meetings"
"Thankyou" Rachel said to doctor Coleman
"Come on you two" she called to Adam and Rachel and they left.
