Revival; a strange concept really.
The light broke through the barriers that are called curtains. I let a small groan leave my dry lips and slowly opened my eyes to a new day. The events of just yesterday reeling themselves in after my slumber. "Crazy." I whispered after looking at the little light seeping in.
I pushed myself up carefully, worried that I may pull something. I looked down and saw a small sheet of ice packs laying on top of the layer of blankets. I pushed them to the side and stared at the blinking clock on my desk - 9:28 AM
"Why am I awake?" I asked myself, picking myself off the bed and approaching the mirror. The bruising around my eye tender to the touch and a sickening purple grayish color. "Oh." I whispered, remembering the altercations too vividly.
I pulled the hem of my shirt up to my chest line, "How am I out of bed?" I asked, cringing at the black welt that decorates my abdomen. Favoring my left hand, I walked over to the curtains and pulled them open to reveal a cloudy autumn day. "Wow." I breathed out, taking in a beauty that I never come to acknowledge.
"Percy?"
I turned my head slowly to the creaking sound of my door opening. There stood a blonde girl with the ability to continue to make my heart race. She leaned on the frame of the door, "How are you feeling?" she asked me.
I pulled the chair from my desk out and sat down, "To be honest?" I asked her which she replied with a nod, "like complete shit and do not pardon my French." I told her, a grin appearing on my face.
Annabeth rolled her eyes, "Your parents are at work and Thalia went to go pick up some food with um.." she came to a pause and her thinking face becoming her new expression momentarily, "Winter, so they'll be out for a while." Annabeth explained, doing this small victory dance mentally.
"It's fine if you get them wrong, sometimes I can't even tell." I told her and fixed myself to be closer to my desk. "So what do I owe the pleasure with you come knocking?" I questioned her.
She strolled into my room, her eyes wandering around. "To keep you company, I heard your heavy steps from downstairs." Annabeth explained and glanced over to my cluttered desk, "You never finished it." she said, pointing at a glass bottle on my desk.
The item she spoke of was an unfinished ship in a bottle, all the components either neatly tucked away or left on the bottom of the bottle. A project I decided to take up after Paul gifted it to me when he took notice in my passion for the sea, I never knew why I didn't finish it.
"No..I didn't." I whispered, a familiar feeling with no name came crawling back. "I just didn't want to in the end."
"No motivation?" she asked.
I shook my head and just stared at the bottle, "Just lost all hope." I told her, rubbing my neck to a soft sore. "I meant to get to it, but life." I told her, my facade coming back up.
Annabeth got up and left the room for only a quick second, coming back with another chair from the guest room. She sat right next to me, "Now we will get to it." she said, pulling the boat closer. I cleared my throat and gestured to my hand that was still bruised, "I'll help you obviously."
"Suite yourself, this requires a steady hand and patience." I taunted her,
Annabeth just chuckled, "Then how come you were able to decently complete it?" she teased me. I groaned realizing I walked right into that, "Now explain boat expert, how do I do this?" She asked, rummaging through the drawers for the tweezers.
Annabeth and I fixed the boat one piece at a time. We enjoyed the silence for a while until my ADHD acted once again, "So you and Luke?" I asked.
"Yea, Luke and I." Annabeth hummed focused on trying to erect one of the sails. "Why are you bringing him up?" she asked.
Why did I? I thought to myself. Luke was bad news for her, but yet I did not have the heart to tell her. Was it even in my place to tell her? We weren't the best of friends, but I do trust her. "Just curious." I lied.
"Do you want to hear my stories of how we met and fell in love under the rain?" She teased which caused myself to roll my eyes, "We met a little over four months ago and at a volunteer event, not some cliche romance movie style." Annabeth elaborated.
I nodded, "Do you love him?"
Annabeth stopped for only a moment before resuming to erect the stubborn piece, "It is a bit too early to even know." she told me, a tinge of red on her cheek exposing her true feelings. Or am I reading to much into that?
"How about you?"
I snapped out of my thoughts when she asked, "Not really," I told her and she looked at me for more of an explanation, "Relationships are something I would rather not get into." I explained more and she just shook her head. "What?"
"Aren't you interested in anyone?" She asked, "I mean if you prefer the same team, I support you but you need to give me some details so we can gossip frankly Thalia is a horrible girl friend." Annabeth said, teasing me with a beautiful smile.
My heart slammed into my chest admiring her smile. There is one.
"Thank you for the generous support." I told her, playing along. "But unfortunately for you, I can only talk to you about girls." I grinned, leaning my head gently on my good arm. I was just admiring her features.
"Great, now I have to take my blog down about you and Nico." Annabeth sighed, pulling her phone out jokingly. "But seriously Percy, is there anyone? Reyna perhaps?"
I shook my head, "No one Annabeth, now lets drop the case and continue building the ship. We're almost there." I said excitedly. Even though I didn't physically build it, the excitement of it finally being complete would be so satisfying.
"Of course Mr. Jackson, is there anything else I can do for you? Perhaps draw you a lukewarm bath or maybe you would like your foot rubbed." She sarcastically retorted with a smirk on her lips, "There we go, one more to go." Annabeth sighed happily and turned the open end towards me and handed the tweezers.
I looked at her with a puzzled look, "You carry too much fate in my ability to do the last part." I said, holding the tweezers in my good hand. "I am not right handed." I admitted to her, struggling to even properly hold the tweezers.
Annabeth just laughed and stood behind me. She leaned down, her chest pressed against my back, "Here let me help you great hero." Annabeth teased, holding my hand steady. My heart was beating rapidly against my chest and I thanked God that she was behind me because of how red my face was getting.
With Annabeth's assistance, I erected the main sail and finally completed the ship in a bottle project. Though I didn't do it by myself, I felt extremely proud to finish something today and be productive. My heart warmed up and I felt revived, "Thank you." I told her, turning around after my face cool.
She sat back down, admiring the work she mostly done. "How are you feeling?" Annabeth asked, her gaze never leaving he boat.
"Besides the obvious welt, I am doing swell." I sarcastically responded, not letting my facade drop. "I will not be able to go to school for a while which is the amazing part." I grinned, patting my stomach gently.
Annabeth's attention finally turned towards me and shook her head, "Don't joke about this Seaweed Brain, you almost slipped into a coma earlier." she told me and a memory came flashing in.
"Percy, wake up." I heard, but my body did not respond like how I wanted it to do. "Wake up, your challenge is almost completed."
All I remember was closing my eyes to rest after a pounding came to my head. My body was violently shook but I still could not open my eyes that had bricks on them. 'Just let me rest.' I wanted to tell them.
"Jackson!" I heard two deep voice yell in unison. It was around 5 AM and no idea why they did not want me to sleep. "Wake up!"
I was slowly losing myself to the dark.
"Percy." I heard an angel whisper and a soft touch placed on my cheek, "Wake up, just one hour more and we'll let you sleep." she told me.
I opened my eyes and locked eyes with grey colors like the storm.
I stared into her grey eyes and nodded, "I'm sorry, I don't know yet." I admitted to her while staring into the bottle and imagining a boat lost at sea.
"What don't you know?"
I looked at her, somehow her body slightly closer to mine. I was just staring into her grey eyes and got lost, "The trust I should have." I admitted to her, my eyes glancing down to her lips curving into a smile.
"Well I suppose I need to work on that." Annabeth told me. I desperately wanted to lean in and close the distance, but I know she has Luke. Just one crack at a time I suppose. I thought not realizing the small distance we had from each other.
"We got Mediterranean!" I heard a voice shout, the door slamming wide open and quickly the distance between Annabeth and I widened. "Hope you got an appetite boss!" Winter yelled with a big grin on his face.
I nodded with a fake smile and glanced over at Annabeth, who glanced right back at me. For once this entire visit, a genuine smile graced my own lips.
I felt alive.
