Goldenpaw was getting ready for another day of training. He woke up and stretched his paws. He blinked opening his amber eyes to gaze at the camp. He noticed Dawnpaw's sleeping body next to him. He looked around for Tallstripe, but couldn't find his mentor. Goldenpaw sighed as he padded to the edge of the camp and felt a tingle run up his spine. He turned around with his claws unsheathed.
"You're getting really good Goldenpaw. You sensed me as I was coming up," his mentor purred.
"Thank you. What are we going today?"
"Well after Swiftpaw, Quickpaw, and Dawnpaw wake up, we'll do a little battle training, a miniature tournament. Whoever wins gets to take tomorrow off." Goldenpaw blinked. Was he dreaming? Did Tallstripe say he'd get to take the day off tomorrow? The possibilities! He could nap, he could share tongues, and he couldn't wait to tell Brightpaw! Oh, wait, Brightpaw's in ThunderClan. It was at that moment that Goldenpaw realized how much missed his tiny brother.
Tallstripe seemed to notice his apprentice's sudden sadness. "Hey, I thought that a day off of training and hunting would be a good thing."
"No, it's not that, I just," Goldenpaw began.
"Miss your brother?"
"Yes, exactly, I wonder how he's doing in ThunderClan."
"I'm sure he's fine," Tallstripe reassured his apprentice.
~Meanwhile in ThunderClan~
"THIS IS THE NINTH TIME YOU'VE RUINED MY FUR!" Flamepaw shouted.
"Y-You've been keeping count?" Brightpaw shrunk.
"I'm going to make sure you never walk again!" the apprentice was ready to kill Brightpaw.
Whitepaw padded up to Flamepaw. "What are you doing?"
Flamepaw sweetly replied, "Nothing," he purred, attempting to show off. Brightpaw cocked his head, his ears flicking.
Whitepaw responded, "You're creeping me out." She shuddered.
~Meanwhile back at WindClan~
"Yes, something is telling me Brightpaw is fine." Goldenpaw noticed Swiftpaw, Dawnpaw, and Quickpaw coming with their mentors.
"Are we ready?" Spottedriver mewed.
"Yes," Tallstripe responded as he padded over to a nice clearing. "We are going to be practicing battle moves today. The goal is to successfully pin your opponent down as fast as possible. You will do this with your claws sheathed."
"And, as we have told you, Oakstar has allowed the winner to take the day off tomorrow." The apprentices looked at one another, obviously trying to find weaknesses.
"First, we will have Swiftpaw and Dawnpaw." Swiftpaw seemed to tense. Goldenpaw seemed sorry, Swiftpaw liked Dawnpaw and it would be difficult to fight her.
Dawnpaw and Swiftpaw got ready to fight. Dawnpaw and Swiftpaw began to circle one another. Swiftpaw was nervous, not wanting to attack Dawnpaw. Dawnpaw pounced as Swiftpaw rolled aside. The black tom attempted to ram into Goldenpaw's sister, but she slid under him and fake scratched his belly. Swiftpaw then kicked his legs out, smashing into Dawnpaw as she got up, sending her flying. Swiftpaw pounced and landed on top of Dawnpaw and pinned her down, winning the match.
Goldenpaw readied himself and faced off with Quickpaw. The older she-cat stared at him as he did to her. Goldenpaw flexed his muscles, getting ready to push off from the ground and throw himself at the tan she-cat, her leafy green meeting his golden amber eyes. "You may be Oakstar's kit, but that doesn't mean you'll win."
Goldenpaw blinked and in that brief moment, Quickpaw had already pounced and Goldenpaw clumsily rolled away, but the larger she-cat slapped her paw down onto Goldenpaw's tail, pulling him back. She pounced onto his back and pushed her weight down onto Goldenpaw's head, ending the battle rather quickly when the golden tom collapsed onto the ground.
"Good, good," Honeyfur mewed to her apprentice, the training is going off fairly well, Quickpaw jumped off of Goldenpaw, snickering at the apprentice. Goldenpaw shrunk as he moped back over to his mentor. Tallstripe stared at his apprentice.
"It's okay; she's had more training then you."
"But she beat me and I couldn't do anything," Goldenpaw mewed softly at his failure. He looked up and saw Quickpaw laughing at him with Dawnpaw. Goldenpaw was taken aback, his own sister! He stared at Swiftpaw, even he was laughing at him! Goldenpaw couldn't have felt more hurt. In the end it was brother against sister, Swiftpaw versus Quickpaw. Quickpaw was fast, lashing out at her brother, but Swiftpaw quickly backed up. Quickpaw shot forward, ramming into her brother as she swiped at his ears, batting them. Swiftpaw countered, trying to bite at Quickpaw, causing her to back away, in fear of having her paw bitten. Swiftpaw batted the side of Quickpaw's head and jumped, trying to get on top of her. The tan she-cat bucked and fell on top of her brother, pinning him down as pretended to claw her. She rolled off of him and got up, glaring at her brother. The moment he got up, she pushed off of the ground, grass flying and she smashed into him, the two becoming a ball of fur as it ended with Quickpaw firmly pinning Swiftpaw down.
They returned to camp, Goldenpaw having the battle run through his head. It had all ended in mere heartbeats. That's all it took to beat him. He could feel Quickpaw putting her paw down on his tail, stopping his escape. It had been all too quick. He hit the ground, constantly thinking of his failure. Swiftpaw was snickering with Dawnpaw and Quickpaw seemed very happy with herself. Goldenpaw pushed the moss around, his battle with Quickpaw ended so fast. Would he be the best? Or just another cat in a Clan who dies and no one remembers his name? What would he be? He gazed at the Medicine Den, missing Brightpaw, wishing to have the gray tom to confide with. He closed his eyes trying to imagine what the medicine cat apprentice would say. Goldenpaw shook his head, he could never predict what Brightpaw would say. He needed his brother for encouragement. Is that what Brightpaw felt like during the days of his warrior training?
No, it was worse, Goldenpaw thought, Brightpaw couldn't do anything. I can fight, I can hunt, but he couldn't. Goldenpaw tried to be thankful for what he could do, but his mind kept thinking about all the possibilities. He wanted to be the best, but he didn't want to go to his mentor and admit it. He closed his eyes trying to think.
Guide has returned! I was busy for the longest time possible, but I'm back. I can't really tell if this has lost quality, but feel free to tell me! The rule of FanFiction is to take flaming with thick skin! We're going to be taking a break from Brightpaw for now. He'll be in ThunderClan doing who knows what. Hoped you enjoyed this Chapter!
