Chapter 21: Getting Ready to Head Back
The next few days had flown by. (read Not Just Pranks and Tricks to find out what happened on those days, if you want) It was all going well, until that third night. I had fallen asleep and was having a nightmare. I dreamt that I decided to go back to Rogand and my family and friends had forgotten me.
I was wandering around my home-island and bumped into my sister.
"Hello, Heather." I greeted.
"Hello. Do I know you?" she asked.
"It's me, Erica." I answered. "You're sister."
"I'm sorry, but I don't know who you are?" she frowned. My parents then came up her and she asked, "Mother. Father. Do you know her?" she gestured at me.
They stared at me for a moment, before they both answered, "No, I don't."
I woke up shaking, my palms and face drenched with sweat.
I had flew out to the beach with Whirlpool, before anyone else woke up. It was still early and the sun hasn't risen. I watched as my Scauldron wade around in the water, smiling to myself. I heard flapping behind me and looked back. It was just Hiccup and Toothless.
"Hey, how come you left so early." he asked, as he climbed off his Night Fury.
"I needed to be alone." I answered.
"You're not completely alone, if you brought your dragon."
"I suppose not," I chucked.
"Here," he handed me two fish. "Not sure if you or your dragon ate before you left, so I brought something for you two."
"Thanks," I took the fish. I was going to call Whirlpool over, but I saw he was already catching his food. A group of Terrible Terrors came landing on the beach at that minute. One looked directly at me and then the fish I had in my hands. "Here," I threw the fish at the small dragon and watched as it caught it in mid-air. It hopped over to me and I lifted it up to my lap. I stroked the tiny beast's back. It nestled up in my lap and I smiled.
"So why do you need to be alone?" Hiccup questioned. The smile faded off my lips and a frown appeared. I explained about the nightmare I had last night. I told him that I needed to head back soon, since I had everything I came for. And much more. "You want to head back?" he asked, frowning.
"As soon as possible. I don't want to keep my family worried about me." I said sadly. I really didn't want to leave, but I had to. If I didn't, my parents would keep stressing out about my disappearance.
"Alright then. But before you go, I want you to ask you to promise me something."
"What is it?" I asked.
"I want you to promise to write to me, so I can see how you're doing."
"Okay, I promise that I will write to you as often as I can. Is that all?"
"Actually, no. I want you to try to visit as soon as you can. But this time, make sure your parents know."
"Okay, I will." I chuckled. "But can I ask you something?"
"What?" he questioned.
"Can you take care of Whirlpool while I'm gone?"
"But how long will you be gone?" he asked.
"I'm not sure." I frowned, staring at my dragon.
"Why don't you take him with you?"
"What?" I shouted, which caused everyone there to stare at me. I lowered my voice and said, "Hiccup, if I take him with me, the whole village will be after him." I looked down at my feet, trying to get that cruel image out of my mind.
"Not if you show them that he is friendly." he said.
I looked up with a confused expression. "Are you suggesting that I, a young Viking girl that no one listens to, try to convince a whole island that dragons are friendly?"
"Yes. I mean you are one of the most bravest girls I have met. You sailed on your own on a small raft. You gained the trust of a Scauldron without realizing it. You protected your father from a Monstrous Nightmare, knowing you would be in a big amount of trouble. I'm sure this is nothing." he smiled.
"Wow, you have that much faith in me, huh?" I chuckled. "I can try." I finally answered.
"Great." he smiled. "Now, let's go tell the others."
Another chapter closer to the end.
