Chapter 21: New Beginnings, and The Deaths of Others
Lucy opened her eyes, she didn't know where she was or why. Her last memories were filled with swirling color, loud noises, and excruciating pain. There were people around her and for some reason her head was being cradled by some kind of pillow around her neck...
Oh hell no, I'm on a plane! How the actual fuck did I get on a plane?! Her heart was pumping overtime and a pulsing ache was forming in her temporal lobe. Then she looked to see who she was sitting beside and everything went away: the panic, the stress, the confusion.
Then the memories came back, all of them and Lucy no longer wondered how she got on the plane, she knew, and she wished she had never woken up.
Due to Lucy's incapability to tell how long she has been on the plane for an accurate time jump, we will jump back to the last night Lucy spent at the Hilton Hotel under captivity.
2:57 a.m.
Something woke her up, the room was so dark she had to squint her to look at the bright clock sitting on the night stand. Her evening had ended early when Rogue and intervened between her and Sting.
Lucy had been trying to get him alone for the past hour and despite herself every time the man touched her she couldn't bring herself to do it.
The man disgusted her and there was nothing that was going to change that. Finally fate seemed to make the choice for her, Rogue received a call not long after her third shot of whiskey. It went down smooth and burned her soul just like the good stuff she would sneak from her dads liquor cabinet.
Anyways, Rogue pulled Sting away and had tweedle-ugly and uglier take her back to her suite. She was disappointed and yet relieved. Sleeping with Sting was not something she would ever be ready for. It was just something she would have to do in order to get him in a vulnerable position.
Lucy had to get information from Sting and then kill him. The people she loved were at risk and it was up to her to stop these monsters from hurting anyone ever again.
Her eyes began to adjust to the darkness when she noticed that someone was standing at the foot of her bed. She didn't scream, that would be pointless. She dove for the phone just as the figure dove at her.
A hand came down over her mouth and pushed her down on the bed. Okay now its okay to scream. Lucy tried to scream but the hand just muffled it, she started struggling using her knees and arms to attack her assailant.
The male grunted as her knee met its mark. But it was no use he put all of his weight down and shook her.
"Lucy goddammit it's me will you calm down?!" the voice whispered fiercely. A familiar voice. A voice whose owner shouldn't even be in this country.
Lucy lay limp till he got off of her. She sat up, her subsiding panic allowed her to see the face of the man sitting in front of her.
She slapped him. His shock sounded with their skin making contact. The whites of his eyes gleamed as he turned to face her.
"What was that for?"
"You know damn well why." Lucy glared at him. This was not part of the plan and it wasn't good he was here. Why are you here?
"Natsu what the hell are you doing here?"
"I'm here to rescue you." Lucy became very tired very quickly. She leaned her back against the head board and sighed.
"Natsu go home." He looked hurt and it hurt her to hurt him but she thought she would never see him again. Him being here is a liability.
"No. I'm here to take you home Lucy." She smiled whimsically.
"I don't have a home anymore." He slapped her.
Ouch!
She was about to say something but he cut her off, "You don't have a home?! I can't believe you Lucy. Regardless of what you think about me the people who took you in and shared their memories with you are waiting and worried sick for you. You dare to say you don't have a home?!"
Lucy grimaced, "I gave up my right to call it home the moment I left you Natsu. There is no way I can return."
"Bullshit."
"What?"
"Bullshit. That is an excuse. You're scared and you're making excuses and I'm not buying it Lucy. Now get your butt up because you are going home right now."
She shook her head, "I can't go. I won't go."
"Do they really mean so little to you? Do I?"
Oh God the pain just never ends does it. "Yes."
Natsu stood. His anger written all over his face. The darkness only made him seem more frightening.
Suddenly a walkie talkie buzzed, "Natsu do you copy? Have you found Lucy? Over"
Natsu very slowly lifted the device to his mouth staring at her the entire time. "Copy, Im with her now, over"
"Then get your ass in gear boy, she needs to be out of the building before the fireworks go off."
The blood drained from Lucy's face. "What fireworks?! Natsu what the hell is going on?"
"Copy that we'll be in route shortly, over"
Natsu ignore her questions, quick as a flash he grabbed her up and slung her over his shoulder. She shrieked and demanded to be put down but everything she said on deaf ears.
They were making their way down the hotels hallway before she knew it. Knocked out guards were strewn everywhere.
Tears finally began to fall. "You idiot! Don't you get it?! If I leave then you are dead! I'm doing this for you! You have to let me go!"
Nastu's grip tightened. "I don't have to do shit baby."
They entered the stair well and Natsu began double timing it down the stairs. They didn't make it two flights before the building shook.
Natsu lost his balance and his hold on her, they went tumbling down another flight of stairs. She screamed when she felt the bone in her arm give. Natsu was out cold and Lucy had a broken arm. She checked it to see how broken, whimpering she wiped away some pesky tears and stood holding her arm against her body.
She checked to make sure Natsu wasn't dead, let the people on the other side of the walkie talkie where he was and then she started making her way back up the stairs. Smoke was pouring into the stair well and she could hear people panicking.
There had been an explosion on the top floor, where her room had been. Lucy picked the floor with the most screaming and started yelling at people to take the stairs. Anyone able bodied should stay and help the elderly.
Before long Lucy and a small group of people were evacuating the top floors of the hotel. They were moving slow since the smoke was so bad. The top floor had been blown to hell, anyone up there was dead. But she was going to make sure everyone else was safe.
Somewhere in the distance Lucy could hear gun shots and more screaming. There was a war going on downstairs and she couldn't help but know why.
Natsu you fucking idiot. You wonderfully romantic, heroic fucking idiot.
Someone noticed that Lucy had tied her arm to her body and put two and two together. She was hurt and needed to get out of the building. Lucy protested but didn't really have a choice. They sent her with a new group including a little girl from the sixth floor.
Lucy made it to the lobby when her luck ran out. The civilians made it out, she watched them leave from an emergency exit. But she was being pulled backwards into darkness. Someone had grabbed her and jammed a needle into her neck.
The world swirled into fantastic colors, men were shooting at each other, some fell down dead, others laughed at the carnage. A shock of blonde hair and tattoos charged at her but then it was gone. Someone kept saying her name over and over again, someone else kept saying mine, she's mine, mine mine mine.
I wish everyone would shut up. My arm hurts. Oh pink pink pink, how I missed the color pink.
Back on the plane.
Lucy checked her arm and saw that it was splinted, not a cast but it would do. She was wearing a pair of gray sweats and black converse. She didn't remember putting it on but that didn't mean she hadn't dressed herself. Whatever they had given her it had done a really good job.
She looked back over at her baby sitter and tapped him on the shoulder. The brute jolted awake, jostling her arm and she grimaced.
"Oh sorry princess, how ya feelin'?" Laxus even sitting down towered over her. He had a black eye and a bandage she could see poking out of his t-shirt. He'd probably been shot. Mira was going to kill him for getting hurt. Lucy smirked Laxus was probably already preparing his 'I'm sorry' speech.
"I'm fine as well as can be expected. Why are you here?"
Laxus looked at her in a way that made Lucy feel like there was a bug crawling on her face. He told her everything from the moment he got the call to come to America to when they got on the plane.
Lisanna had found some information that led them to believe that Dreyar had been hiding in that hotel the entire time. That they were waiting to take Lucy to the Texas/Mexico border were her father's fortune was hidden.
They had managed to infiltrate a team into the building and had had to wait until there was a confirmation that Dreyar was actually there. When they had gotten it they'd executed the plan. Dreyar, Minerva, and about fifty other people were accounted for being dead. Gildarts had identified the bodies himself.
Rogue had disappeared along with a couple of his men but there wasn't a search party going after them. Lucy was confused until Laxus told her that Rogue is the one who had put a bullet through Sting's psycho head.
The bastard had gotten Lucy and drugged her, almost got away with her too when Rogue and Natsu had intercepted them. It hadn't been pretty but it hadn't taken long either. Whatever drug Sting had given her it had dropped her heart rate so low that until Gildarts had gotten there with a medic they had thought she was dead.
Lucy rubbed the back of her neck with her good hand. "Where is Natsu?"
Laxus looked out the window, "After the blubbering fool realized you were alive he took off. Said something about having to take care of a few things before he could come home. Haven't seen him since. Gildarts had to stay behind to clean up with Lisanna, who by the way has no doubt already called my wife, and I was charged with getting you home. So here we are princess."
"Oh, I see. Thank you Laxus I'll never be able to thank you enough."
Laxus ruffled her hair, "Just stick around a bit longer, I understand you're a frickin' pinata for danger but there are several people who wouldn't do so well if you weren't around."
Lucy laughed at being called a pinata but sobered quickly enough. It was over. She no longer had to run away or worry about Dreyar and Sting coming after her or her loved ones.
It took three more hours before they made it to London... she had really been out of it. She was going to want to hear the story of how Laxus had gotten her onto to the plane.
The drive from the airport to Fairy Tail seemed too long but then again she had thought she was never going to see this place again.
Laxus was getting the luggage out of the car and had told her to go on inside. It was the first thing he had said to her since they had landed. The giant of a man had been on the phone non stop.
She was nervous as she stepped past the snap dragons blooming around the wooden carved door. The inside was empty except for one person and the sight of him took her breath away.
"Natsu" she breathed his name and suddenly she was in his arms. He squeezed her gently and then released her. She watched as he pulled something from his pocket and got down on one knee.
"Oh my God Natsu!"
He opened the box and there in a gold setting surrounded by little diamonds was an opal. It swirled in creams, pinks, reds, yellows and blues. It was the most beautiful thing she had ever seen.
"I didn't know it was going to be you."
"What?"
"I had no clue that the one I was going to be doing this for was you. In few years ago I would have bet against this but here we are."
"Here we are." she smiled down at him
"Yes here we are and can I say Lucy I am breathless. You have changed me in ways only a man in love can describe. You have become an entity within my heart, flesh and soul. Never before have I looked at the world through someone else's eyes, yours so beautiful and full of honor and wonder. Lucy here in this moment I vow to never make promises. To always prove to you that you are the love of my life, in every minute of every day I vow that with each passing moment that it will be spent with you"
Tears were now spilling onto her cheeks.
Natsu looked into her eyes, "Lucy Heartfilia will you from this day on make this vow as well, will you marry me?"
Lucy laughed, tears streaming "Yes! Yes I will marry you!"
Natsu put the ring on her finger and they embraced laughing and kissing as they were suddenly swarmed by all of their friends being drowned in welcome homes, congratulations and love.
For Lucy time slowed. She looked around her and saw that she was home, that she was in love with a wonderful man and she was never going to leave again.
The End.
Hope y'all liked it. Oh I'm tearing up.
Till next time!
