Chapter 21
Krista stared at her laptop screen as her conference call ended. Kaiba looked over at her. He could tell that terror was filling her entire soul. "Imzadi, what did you see that you didn't want the Pharaoh to know about?"
Krista quickly began typing on her laptop keyboard as she said. "Trouble if the vision represents the future. And if the Dark Lord has anything to do with it, the balance of power in this war just shifted to his favor."
Krista turned the screen of her laptop to face her husband as soon as he read the screen he cursed. "Shit!" He then pulled out his deck and began looking through it. Without taking his eyes of his cards he added. "I understand, why you didn't want tell the Pharaoh in a conference call."
Krista rubbed her temples to elevate the migraine she felt coming on. "I need more information before I cause an unnecessary panic."
Krista watched as her husband continued to flip through his deck once he put it away she asked. "Well?" Seto shook his head no causing Krista to let out the breath she was holding. "That is a minor relief."
"Minor being the key word." The CEO stated as he began vigorously typing away on his laptop.
Krista took a deep breath in order to gain control over her shot nerves. "I need to contact Pegasus. He may be the only one on the planet with the knowledge to verify that this vision representing the future is an impossibility." Krista stated while sending a text on her phone.
Draco was thoroughly confused by the antics of the Kaiba and Krista. He leaned over to read Krista screen only to see something written in a language he couldn't read. "You two going to translate this for me?"
"Not until after I get some more answers." Krista stated as she quickly erased the screen before Draco could cast a translations spell on it. She then sent Kaiba a telepathic message making sure she was blocking the rest of the court members so only he could hear her. "High Priest, I am going to speak with Pegasus, but if this vision is of the future, then Saturday I need to infiltrate the underground and hopefully we aren't too late. While I'm gone I need you to hack into all ER files in the London area and cross reference them with file 859B-89-R2."
"All ready on it!" The High Priest replied.
Krista phone beeped signaling a response. She quickly glanced at it before relaying. "Cover for me if Severus or Jasmine asks where I went, this is something that they don't need to be informed of until we know for sure."
"I suggest we tell no one until we know for sure. We need to keep this between you and me and the toon loving freak." Kaiba replied.
"Agreed the fewer people we tell the better." The Royal Sorceress relayed.
"You are going to actually go see Pegasus not just conference him correct?" The High Priest asked.
Krista nodded as she gave Seto a kiss goodbye. "Correct, this is something that shouldn't be discussed on an open line even with a scrambling system as good as the one you designed for Kaiba Corp."
"Due me a favor and don't tell Pegasus about Setina." Kaiba requested.
"Any reason why?" The Royal Sorceress asked.
Kaiba smirked as he telepathically replied. "The last thing I want added to my stress level, at this time, is to have that toon loving freak sending our daughter a stuffed animal of that fucking rabbit."
Krista snickered as she conjured a Shadow Portal. She walked through it, and soon she found herself facing the Creator. He was sitting in a deck chair at a white circular table drinking a glass of white wine. On the table sat a tray with a coffee pot and a coffee cup. When Pegasus saw Krista he gave her a smile.
Pegasus then took a long look at Krista. He could tell that she was worried about something but there was something else different about her. He just couldn't put his finger on it. He decided not to dwell on it and just picked up his phone. "Krista girl, please tell me this text is some kind of joke and you just needed a good excuse to see me."
Pegasus held up his phone showing the text message it read:
We have a problem! Where are you? I just saw something that may prove that our crusade was unsuccessful.
Krista let out a huge sigh, "I wish it was, Pegasus."
Pegasus gestured to the chair next to him. He then offered Krista a cup of coffee, which she gladly accepted. Once she was seated he said. "Tell me what you saw."
"Just a quick flash of what you, Ishizu, and I set out to destroy over three years ago, while Seto spent the time cleaning up mess on the business side of the fiasco. I saw it right after the Pharaoh asked me to conjure a vision to give him more details about an underground duelist who goes by the name of White Knight. Is it possible we missed one?" Krista replied.
Pegasus shook his head. "I don't see how, we used every magical and non magical way I could think of to track down all the evidence. We even had the Dark Magician Girl verify for us that we destroyed each card."
Krista let out a sigh of relief. "Then I am just being paranoid and my vision was of the past not the future. This duelist must have been a victim from the incident." Krista took sip from her coffee cup before continuing. "Just to erase any doubt whatsoever that is in my mind, it is impossible for it to be reincarnated right?"
Pegasus took a deep breath before speaking. "As with anything supernatural, it is improbable that it could be reborn but not impossible."
Upon hearing Pegasus' answer Krista body filled with anger and fear causing the coffee pot on the table to explode spaying coffee all over the place. "I was hoping you wouldn't say that! I was hoping you would elevate my fear not exacerbate it! When dealing with the supernatural, I'm aware first hand that the laws of probability and statistics fly out the window."
Pegasus stared at the shattered coffee pot. He couldn't believe that Krista had lost control, but he shook it off and said in a calm tone. "I'm not sure I can lessen your fear. But I can tell you that if the Seal of Orichalcos was reborn it wouldn't be quite the same as last time, since the Leviathan was vanquished and can't be resurrected. But since the Seal is born out of evil and evil still exists in the world, it could theoretically show up again."
Krista nodded her head before closing her eyes; she really didn't want to ask the question that just sprang to her mind. After taking a couple of seconds to calm down she pressed forward asking. "Is the Dark Lord evil enough to cause the magic of the Orichalcos to show up again?"
"Unquestionably." Pegasus replied.
Fear once again began coursing through the body of the Royal Sorceress this time shattering the bottle of white wine on the table. "Please tell me there is a catch." She stated in a panicky tone.
Knowing if he didn't calm Krista down more things would start exploding, Pegasus smiled. "Of course there is Krista girl. For the Seal to show back up would require some kind of magical reptile to replace the Leviathan and that reptile would have to have the ability to house human souls. The card would also only present itself to a duelist, not a wizard hell bent on world conquest who doesn't even know what dueling is."
Krista's heart began racing as her panic increased, however her outward appearance didn't show her increased fear. "Would a reptile with an eighth of a human soul create a substitution for the Leviathan?"
Pegasus glanced around to notice that it seemed that Krista had finally gain control of her emotions, since nothing exploded this time. This made the Creator grin. "Krista girl, you know I love to play games, but where did you pull that hypothesis from?"
Krista clinched her hands into fits to help gain control of her sudden rush of annoyance at Pegasus' antics. "It's not a hypothesis!" She hollered. "The Dark Lord's familiar is a venomous snake named Nagini. And she houses an eighth of the Dark Lord's soul."
Pegasus did a double take. "How did that happen? Did one of you use that as a Penalty Game?"
Krista shook her head before picking up her coffee cup. She took a long drink before saying. "We didn't have anything to do with it. When a person commits murder it splits their soul."
"Naturally since murder is an unnatural act, but what does that have to do with this snake?" Pegasus asked.
"There is a very dark spell in wizarding magic that allows a wizard that commits murder to incase a piece of his split soul into an object or in this case a snake, the objects are called Horcruxes. The Dark Lord cast this spell several times eventually creating seven Horcruxes in his quest to make himself immortal. He can't be vanquished until each of his Horcruxes are destroyed. Using a sword impregnated with basilisk venom, because basilisk venom is one of the only ways to destroy a Horcrux, we have successful destroy four leaving four pieces of his soul left to destroy." Krista explained.
Pegasus took a sip from his glass of wine, while he tried to think of what to say next. "I know you would like to me to tell you that an eighth of a soul isn't enough but I think it just might be. Furthermore if the Seal has been resurrected and the Seal has taken more souls that sword won't be enough to destroy the snake. Each soul the Orichalcos takes and allows the snake to absorb will make the snake stronger. You will most likely need the Knights of Atlantis and all the deities to kill the snake."
"I didn't want to hear that, the idea that Nagini maybe getting stronger means that the Dark Lord may never be vanquished and somehow all the visions I've had over the last two years that show a positive future may have been altered due to some freaky act that caused wizarding magic to once again change destiny. I'm cursed to see what might be but may never happen. Why me!" Krista yelled as the glass in Pegasus shattered spraying him with his wine.
Pegasus grabbed a napkin off the table to dry off his clothes as he said. "Krista girl I understand your frustration, of all the Millennium Items, yours carries the largest burden emotionally for the one who protects it. You see things outside of time. Sometimes they are good, sometimes they are bad, and sometimes they are just pieces. You must analyze and try to understand what destiny is saying. You then must weigh what you see against what you desire and they may not always agree." Pegasus finished drying off his clothes before adding. "You obviously came here seeking answers hoping I'd be able to tell you that you saw the past not the future. But I can't say with certainty it was the past, given what you just told me about the snake. But that isn't a good enough reason to lose hope that what you foresaw will not come to pass."
The coffee cup in Krista's hand exploded luckily for her it was empty as she hollered. "I came here for answers not a pathetic excuse for a pep talk!"
Pegasus was growing more concerned by the minute. Krista now had successfully destroyed four things. He really wasn't sure what was causing her sudden lack of control. But knowing time was essential, he decided not to postulate any theories at the moment and said. "I'm giving you answers based on the knowledge I have, and some well educated guesses. And I know you know that!" The creator looked around to see that nothing new had gotten destroyed and asked. "Did Kaiba boy look to see if Critias showed back up in his deck to help you verify if your vision was the past or the future?"
Krista rolled her eyes out of annoyance. "Of course he did. And the dragon wasn't there."
"Then it might not be too late, perhaps you were shown this to stop it." Pegasus stated.
Krista pinched the bridge of her nose. "Or we are too late and Critias won't show up again until Seto is in the middle of an Orichalcos duel. That is when he showed up the first time."
"Even though I know you don't want to hear more bad news, you also need to keep in mind that the card does have the ability to magically self replicate each time it is played another shows up somewhere. If it has in fact returned to the world then there may be more than one duelist holding it. If it is back, then your year just got more complicated." The Creator warned.
"When is my life not complicated?" Krista hollered as simultaneously two empty lounge chairs shattered sending pieces all over the place.
Pegasus stood up surveying the newest mess caused by Krista's lack of control. "Krista girl, I would appreciate it, if you would stop blowing up my stuff! Your fears are causing you to lose control, much more than I would have thought possible. I'm not sure what is going on but whatever it is you need to get control before someone gets hurt! We are lucky we weren't showered with hot coffee when the coffee pot exploded!"
Krista stood to her feet and gave Pegasus a death glare. "Don't start lecturing me about controlling Shadow Magic! I train apprentices! I know all about how it is tied to my emotions!"
"Although I don't think it was my magic that kept doing this." Krista thought to herself as she placed her left hand on her abdomen, closed her eyes and began taking slow deep breaths. "Setina, you really need to stop making things blow up. Pegasus is getting suspicion and your father doesn't want him to know about you yet. Be nice so that your father doesn't have to deal with a Funny Bunny stuffy until after you are born."
Pegasus observed Krista for several moments. It appeared as if she was meditating. He figured that should keep her from blowing anything else up. When he noticed she finally opened her eyes again he said. "If our fears are confirmed, you need to be extra careful if you are pulled into an Orichalcos duel."
Krista rolled her eyes. "I'm aware of what happens to the loser. I went through it before; I don't wish to repeat that."
"That isn't what I mean," said Pegasus. "Your magical core is much stronger than it was three and a half years ago; it is the strongest of anyone I've ever met. If you lose an Orichalcos duel this time around and your power is fed to the Dark Lord's snake the deity you wield won't be able to help defeat the snake causing the Dark Lord to win the Wizarding War leading to the destruction of the world."
"Trust me, Pegasus. I won't lose another Orichalcos duel. When I faced it the first time I followed my gut instinct, the minute Alister played the card. My strategy was to get rid of his field spell with mine and summon Isis. I played out that strategy. I wasn't aware that my trump couldn't replace the Seal, due to its ability to be untarnished by magic cards. And by the time I found out, I didn't have much fire power left in my deck to duel my way out of the jam I was in, causing me to lose." Krista stated as she pulled out her cell phone to check the time. "I need to head back, before my absence is noticed by too many people."
"Even though it was under grim circumstances, it was a pleasure to see you again." Pegasus then pointed to the mess around his table. "But what should I do with all the damaged cups, bottles, and chairs?"
Krista gave Pegasus a quizzical look and spoke in a condescending tone dripping with sarcasm. "Here is a thought, how about buy new ones and just send me the bill."
Pegasus snickered. It seemed that Krista's spirits had lifted a little, causing her sense of humor to break through. "Keep me informed of what you discover, these are troubling times."
"I'll let you know anything I find out that is relevant. Don't tell anyone what I saw until after you hear from me confirming or denying its return." Krista requested.
"Krista girl, I'm in hiding from the Dark Lord while you and the rest of the Millennium Court are fighting a magical war. Whom am I going to tell?" Pegasus said.
"Point taken." Krista sneered.
"Tell Kaiba boy hi for me." Pegasus said.
Krista nodded her head before she conjured a Shadow Portal to take her back to Hogwarts. As she stepped through it she noticed that Seto was waiting for her and the common room of her dorm was empty.
Kaiba smiled when he saw his wife. "I successfully hacked the hospital records no patients fall into the descriptions of victims from the Orichalcos."
"Thank Ra!" Krista exclaimed.
"Any problems with Pegasus?" Seto asked.
"None whatsoever, other than every time he said something that made me feel an intense emotion your daughter's decided to magically blow something up. Causing Pegasus to think I had no control over my magic." Krista stated with a hint of sarcasm in her voice.
Kaiba gave his wife his signature smirk as he walked up to her placing his hand on her stomach. "That's my girl. Way to show that toon loving freak that he should know better than to piss off a Kaiba."
Krista's jaw dropped from shock. "Seto not helping, I had anticipated morning sickness with the pregnancy, not magic sickness."
Seto laughed at his wife's choice for a metaphor. He then wrapped his arm around her waist. "You'll figure out how keep Setina's magic from channeling through you unexpectedly. It is just going to take time for you to find that balance."
"Thank you, Seto. I never would have figured that out on my own!" Krista said sarcastically.
Kaiba kissed Krista's cheek before taking a seat at the table. "Now seriously, what did Pegasus have to say?" Kaiba asked as he began typing on his laptop.
Krista sat down and pulled her laptop towards her. "In a nut shell, resurrection of the Seal of Orichalcos is improbable but not impossible. Meaning my vision could very well be warning us of danger in the near future. He also hinted that several things have to happen for it to be reborn and that it will magically show up in a duelist's deck if all things fall into place and if it is played the card will magically replicate itself."
Kaiba groaned. "Figures the toon loving freak wouldn't have anything really helpful to say. Leaving us with only one option, we are just going to have to infiltrate the underground on Saturday."
"We." Krista said as she began looking through her lesson plans for tomorrow.
"Yes," said Kaiba. "You and me. Do you really think I'd let you go without me? If an underground duelist has that card the only way to find out for sure is to go to the underground. And there is no way you can participate in an underground duel in your condition. Even with my threat of suing, there is no guarantee someone won't try to challenge you. So if an underground duel must go down, I'll do it."
Krista looked up from her laptop. "Seto, you should know that I would just decline the challenge of an underground duel. I was given a second chance at having a child and not even my pride will make me reject my gift."
Kaiba looked over at his wife. "And lose your title as the best underground duelist, I won't permit it. I've worked too hard to make sure you keep your title, even after you left the underground. Which is why I threatened to sue. No amateur is going to take that away just because they may or may not have the Seal of Orichalcos."
"You know if it is that big of a deal to you, you could always mind control someone into changing their mind to challenging me." Krista suggested.
"And risk that much exposure to magic, which would cause the value of KC stock to nose dive, absolutely not." The CEO stated. "I've given it serious thought, worked out every detail, and this is the only way."
Krista stared at her husband for several moments. As far as she could he had replaced his logic with his stubborn ego. She figured she better point out the obvious to him. "Seto, I appreciate the gesture I really do. But you have never done an underground duel. And the shocks are painful and they weaken the body immensely."
Seto glared at his wife as he started hollering. "Don't you dare tell me you think I'm not strong enough to handle them!"
Krista stood up and placed her hands on her hips. "I will say what ever I damn well please, if it helps to change your mind about this."
"You can't make me change my mind." Kaiba yelled.
"Seto, I don't want to see you get hurt!" Krista hollered.
"I won't get hurt. I'm Seto Kaiba I can handle anything." Kaiba said arrogantly.
"But what if you can't handle it?" Krista asked.
"This isn't open for debate; I'm one of the best duelists in the world and will be fine. We need to find out for sure if your vision was a warning for the future or just telling us of the past." Kaiba said in a stern tone that told Krista it was pointless to argue further.
Krista sighed as she flopped back down into her chair. "Fine you win, I refuse to spend the night fighting with you so I'll concede." Krista went back to working on her lesson plans. Without looking up from her laptop screen she added. "But if you have to duel, you will take a strengthen potion before and after each duel to minimize any damages and you won't argue with me about the potion's nasty taste."
Kaiba nodded his head as he went back to working on his laptop. The two worked well into the night wondering just what would happen on Saturday.
