Thank you all for reading. Sorry about taking FOREVER to update. School has been a lot of work. I never have a free moment to write, but since the trailer came out I made time. (really hope I don't start failing)
Declaimer- I own nothing and I'm still denying the real ending of the book.
Bilbo walked around Erebor listening to the sounds of the mines in the distance. He tried finding Bofur, but gave up after a long time of searching. Erebor was huge, each hall led somewhere new and Bilbo got lost once or twice. Bilbo had stayed with Thorin on the balcony talking about life and Erebor for a few hours, but Thorin left to back to sit with Kili. Things were still strained between them, but Bilbo enjoying having normal conversation with him again. He missed the way things where before they came to Erebor. Actually, he started to miss the Shire.
Thorin went back to the healing room to see Kili asleep on the bed. His breathing was heavy and his brow was drench in sweat. Thorin sat down by his youngest nephew still appalled at what he did. Thorin wiped some of the sweat from Kili's forehead whispering that he was sorry for the millionth time. He almost killed Kili; he beat up Fili, and for what?
Thorin fell asleep in the chair next to Kili's bed. He did not sleep well though. He kept walking up from dark dreams and had a hard time falling back asleep in fear the dreams would return. The night passed by slowly.
The next day Kili continued to sleep. Oin reinsured Thorin that it was normal for Kili to be sleeping so much. Kili, despite how he was feeling the previous day, was still weak. Oin told Thorin the biggest concern now was if it got infected, but Oin said it was unlikely.
Around mid-day Thorin left the healing room. He went to his chambers, Thror's old chambers, and laid down on the bed. It felt cold. Thorin thought a great deal about Fili and how brave he was. Fili stayed strong through everything that happened. His heir put everyone above himself. Fili constantly let himself be pushed aside for his brother. Thorin knew when Fili came back from Lake-Town he would treat Fili better, the way he deserves. Thorin fell asleep, once again waking every few hours from terrible nightmares. He got up as left his chambers knowing it would be a long time till he ever slept peacefully.
Thorin wondered the halls as the night pressed on. Fili would be back soon and with him would be the Arkenstone. Thorin could feel his heart pounding just thinking about the King's Jewel. Thorin pressed up against the nearest wall. His head began to pound and he knew the screaming voice would soon follow.
"Thorin?" A voice called out. The king looked to see Dwalin standing beside him. "Are you alright?"
"Yes," Thorin half lied. "Is Fili back yet?"
Dwalin shook his head, "It will still be a few more hours till he returns."
Thorin nodded a few times then looked over at Dwalin. He had known Dwalin since he could remember. Thorin thought of Dwalin as his friend, his comrade and a few days ago, his enemy. "Dwalin, I want to thank you, for everything. I know of late I have been…," Thorin paused for a moment thinking of everything that happened between him and Dwalin before the battle. "Thank you Dwalin, just…thank you."
Dwalin put his hand on Thorin's shoulder, "you never have to thank me, Thorin."
The two shared a smile and continued talking. Dwalin, for once, did most of the talking. He spoke about how the mines were going and about the rest of the company. Thorin listened, hearing his friend's voice seemed to calm him down.
As the time passed on Dwalin dismissed himself leaving Thorin alone in the corridor. The king took in a deep breath wondering how everything could have gone so wrong so fast. He looked around the hall and realized something. He missed his old life. He missed the Blue Mountains.
Fili practically ran back to the mountain with the Arkenstone in hand. His side was burning, but he kept pushing towards the gates of Erebor. He wanted to get back to Kili as quick as he could. He never liked being parted from his brother for long, and just over a day was too long. He worried that Kili got worse while he was gone. He hated leaving his brother's side while he needed him. Fili looked down at the Arkenstone in his hand. He had half a mind to throw it away. It was because of the Arkenstone he had to leave Kili, it was because of the Arkenstone they even reclaimed Erebor, and it was Arkenstone Thorin first banished the hobbit.
Fili arrived back to Erebor wanting to go straight to the healing room to see Kili. He hid the Arkenstone in his pocket as someone of Dain's soldiers opened the gate to let him in. Fili quickly went down to see Kili, but Thorin spotted him.
"Fili!" Thorin yelled running up to his eldest nephew. "You're back," Thorin said his eyes examining every inch of Fili, no doubt looking for the Arkenstone. "Did you…did you get the Arkenstone?" Thorin asked his eyes looking vacant.
Fili swallowed hard recognize the look Thorin had. Fili felt fear and he took a step back. Thorin stepped forward glaring at him. "Did you get the Arkenstone?" Thorin questioned his breathing growing heavy.
"Yeah," Fili squeaked out. "I got it, is Kili feeling alright?" Fili asked hoping to change the subject and get that look out of Thorin's eyes.
"Where is the Arkenstone?" Thorin took a step closer to Fili, who was still backing up. Fili's back hit a wall. "Where is it?"
Fili did not answer.
"Where is it?" Thorin yelled and pushed his hand into Fili's shoulder. Fili still did not answer him and Thorin tightened his grip.
Fili let out a faint grunt. Thorin's pressing on his shoulder started to hurt and the pain spread to the wound in his side. "Thorin, you're hurting me."
Thorin gasped and let go of Fili. "Are you alright?" Thorin asked franticly. Fili nodded. "No, you're not," Thorin lifted Fili's jacket to see blood soaking through. "You're wound is bleeding again, go see Oin."
"What about the Arkenstone?"
Thorin's eyes grew wide. He shook his head. Hesitating he said, "keep it, for now. Go see Oin, heal your wound first." Thorin took a ragged breath. "We can deal with the Arkenstone when you have healed."
Fili smiled and put his hand on Thorin's shoulder. "Thank you, uncle." Thorin gave him a nod and walked with him to the healing room, his eye on Fili's pocket the whole time.
Thanks again for reading. This story is almost over, like two or three chapters more. I will try to get them out before the movie. Review and have a nice day.
