Chapter 21
BPOV
It's been several weeks since Peter talked to his father and last week a mediator called wanting have a meeting between Emmett and I.
"Bella, I don't like it." Peter was pacing my bedroom.
"I don't either, but it's strange how now, all of a sudden he wants to meet."
"I agree, but I want to be there and let them know we're a united front, nothing is coming between us."
"Of course, it's not Peter. I love you."
"I've been wanting to take you away forever and do this, but now seems as good as time as ever." Peter got down on one knee. "Bella, we've clicked ever since I first met you. I knew you were it for me and I'd be honored if you'd be my wife."
I knelt down to where he was a planted a huge kiss on him that made us both tumble to the floor. "Is that a yes?" He laughed.
"YES!" He slid the ring on my finger and I gasped.
"I hope you like it, it was my grandmothers. It's from the 1920's a vintage Tiffany ring."
"Peter, it could've been a plain silver band and I would've loved it."
We made out on the floor all night.
I called my lawyer the next morning to set up the mediation and calling back he said it was set for Friday morning.
"Peter, the meeting is set for Friday morning. Can you make that?" I called him at work.
"Of course, I'll take the morning off."
"Thank you. You're the best. My dad is going to pick up the kids, if we run late."
"We'll go together." Peter stated.
"Why don't you just move in with us Peter." I laughed. We'd been having this conversation since our engagement.
"I told you. I want us to have OUR home, we need to look for one."
"Ok. Ok. Let's get this thing with Emmett over and then we'll look." I promised.
"Good. We'll give the kids whatever they want for their rooms and you'll have free rein of decorating, minus my office."
"Oh, do you not trust me?"
"It's not that, I'm just super picky."
"Yes, I know that much."
"But you love me." He stated.
"With everything I am."
"Me as well."
This was our usual thing, and it meant so much more.
Friday was upon us and I was nervous, I hadn't seen or heard from Emmett since our last court date.
"Bella, calm down. We're in this together." Peter kissed me as the elevator doors closed.
"Sorry, everything is hopefully coming to an end; so, we can begin." I squeezed Peter's hand.
"Yes, it is, and we will."
Walking into the conference room hand in hand with Peter, Emmett stood up and yelled "What's he doing here. This is between me and my wife."
Before we could say anything, his lawyer whispered in his ear and Emmett sat down, glaring.
"May I remind you Emmett, I am not your wife-anymore." I looked him in the eye as I sat down.
Peter's father walked in behind us, with Aro and I gasped.
"Dad?" Peter looked at him.
His dad nodded and sat down.
We proceeded on and half way through the talks, I took my hand from Peter's to get a drink of water.
"WHAT IS THAT?" Emmett shouted, interrupting the mediator.
"What are you talking about?" I asked.
"ON YOUR FINGER!" He grabbed my hand and Peter jumped up.
"Let her go Emmett." Peter threatened.
"Emmett..." Aro warned.
Emmett sat back and had a murderous look on his face.
"Can we finish now?" The mediator asked with a sigh.
"OK, Emmett Alister has offered you up in a trade, once you complete drug and alcohol rehab, along with Domestic Violence counseling. Aro has agreed to this."
"Are you serious? How can you do this to me Aro? What about my mom?" He fired off.
"Your mom knows and agrees." Aro sighed. "Take the deal son, you won't get a better one. Not with your substance abuse and domestic violence charge."
"It's your fault!" Emmett yelled. "It's your fault for all of this! You promised me everything, and I have nothing. I lost everything."
"Emmett settle down." Alistair snapped.
"Bella will keep full custody of the children, you'll have no visitation until all programs are complete, once the programs are complete you'll get supervised visits to be determined."
"What? Are you serious?" Emmett asked.
"Very." Aro stated.
"I'd also like to stop my alimony payments. I won't be needing them soon." I looked straight at Emmett.
"I'll note that in my report. Is there anything else?" The mediator asked.
"Have my restraining orders against Esme and Emmett went through?" I spoke up.
"Yes, Esme should have been served hers this morning, and it includes the children as does Emmett's for the time being. Emmett's will be lifted for supervised visits after completion of everything. Here's a copy for you to keep and one to take to the children's school." My lawyer handed me a manila envelope and Emmett an envelope.
"Just for the record, I'd like to unadopt Boothe and Bonnie." Emmett spoke up. "Cooper is my only child."
I gasped.
"For your information Emmett, you cannot unadopt children." Alistair rolled his eyes. "They are all yours, unless Peter decides to adopt them."
Emmett's hands clenched into fists and his lawyer leaned into him.
"Are we finished? I really need to get the children." I smiled tightly.
"Yes, just a couple signatures and you're free to go." The mediator slid the papers to me.
After getting into the car, I broke down.
"Hey, we know Emmett's an ass. He's doped up and pissed." Peter pulled me to him.
"I know. It's just what would the kids think if they knew he didn't want them." I cried.
"Well, hopefully in time they'll come to love me as much as I love them, and I can take Emmett's place." Peter whispered.
"They love when you're there. You're around so much more than Emmett."
We drove to my dad's house and I helped make dinner, while my dad and Peter talked. I could tell he told my dad what went down today by the twitching in his mustache.
"Bella, are you OK?" Sue asked.
"Yeah, it's been a long day, that's all." I shook my head and continued with the salad.
After dinner, Sue and my dad offered to keep the kids, we didn't hesitate.
Once we were home Peter cracked open a bottle of wine and we relaxed on the couch.
"So, I'd like to get married sooner, rather than later and I think I found the house." Peter said out of the blue. "It's simply beautiful. It has 5 bedrooms and 5 ΒΌ baths. That way we've got room to grow, if you want." He smiled proudly.
"I want." I whispered.
We stayed up until the wee hours of the morning talking wedding and houses. Peter showed me the house he liked, and I agreed, it was simply beautiful. Not all uppity like I thought it might be.
We discussed wedding details, but were still at a standstill, possibly summer when the kids are out of school to make everyone's lives easier.
"I love you Peter, thank you for finding me." I kissed him one last time before falling asleep.
