The first night of being moms to a newborn was a little overwhelming, mainly because both women were exhausted from the day, but the excitement kept them awake a little longer than they wanted. Riley was in the hospital crib next to their bed and woke up twice during the night. The first time Santana told Rachel she had it and her wife didn't have to wake up. Santana pulled the crib closer to the bed and lifted her son into her arm. His crying got her a little nervous, but as soon as he started to eat, Riley relaxed and soon enough fell back to sleep. A few hours later, the crying noises filled the room again and Santana did the same, only this time the baby didn't go back to sleep. Rachel woke up as well and took little Riley to the small changing area in the room. He only needed a new diaper and once his mother got him changed and wrapped in a blanket again, the boy slept through the few hours that was left of the night. The couple snuggled up to each other for the second time, happy that they have such great team work.
The next morning the doctor came to check on mother and son, see if they were ready to be discharged. The physical exam for both were perfectly alright, then the doctor set to talk to the mothers for a few minutes, asking how they were doing and how was the night. Making sure their mental status was good as well, since it's as important as their physical. Rachel and Santana answered honestly; they were a little tired and it'd probably take them a few days to get used to, but they were loving every second with their son. The doctor told them they can start getting ready for going home and that Santana will need to come by in about two weeks. She reminded them about the vaccines the baby needs to get and the little things that can disturb the little guy's sleep. The couple thanked the woman for all her help and guidance along the journey. They were lucky to have a patient doctor that was there for them for the smallest things and they told her if they'd want another angel or someone they know will start the process, she's the woman they'd go or refer others to.
When the doctor left, Santana called her mom and asked her to pick them up in about an hour. Maribel informed her daughter that she changed the sheets in the parent's room, clean the dust from Riley's and got all the little things ready, so they don't need to worry. Santana was much less stress and really grateful for her mother being there and helping them so much.
During the wait, Rachel and Santana told their son about his home, the family and the dog, who's probably going to be his guard and best friend. Then they got a nurse to keep an eye on him while Rachel helped Santana take a shower and get dressed.
A couple of hours later, Maribel was parking the car in the Lopez's residence while the two moms set between their son's safety seat in the backseat. The drive could've been frustrating, especially for one Latina, unless they were busy explaining to a mostly sleeping baby what's going on and answering phone calls and text from people congratulating them.
"Babe, can you go inside first and get Dex before we come in?" Santana asks as they were getting out. Like recommended, the couple trained their dog for the upcoming change, they even sent a piece of clothing with Maribel last night, so he can be familiar with the Riley's scent. Dex was a good dog who knew how to behave and Santana and Rachel done everything to ensure it'll stay like that when they bring their son home.
Rachel nodded and walked ahead of Santana, she unlocked the door and Dex was waiting there, happily barking for the fact that his owners are home. "Shh…" Rachel told Dex as she walks in, patting her thigh so that the dog would follow. She takes Dex over to the couch, pats on the seat to tell him to get on the couch, which he does. "Buddy, remember what we said about a new person living with us?" she asks him, he licks her face as a response. "We have a baby here now, so you need to be on your best behavior, no barking because that will upset the baby, and we don't want that, do we?" Rachel asks, Dex responds with a grunt as he rests his head on the cushion. "Good boy… Hey San, its safe!" she calls out.
Santana took Riley from his chair carefully, but the young boy still woke up. She waited a second to see whether he was going to cry or fall back to sleep, but none of that happened. Instead, he takes a second and focus on his mom's face. "Good timing, darling. We're home." Santana tells him and get a little punch in the face in return. She chuckles and close the car's door. With Maribel helping getting all the stuff from the car, they walk to get inside the house. "This is your home, little man." She tells him happily. "I know you can't really see anything yet, but you're going to spend many years here." Santana smiles at her boy and place a kiss on his nose. Riley only looks at her and slightly shakes his body. "Well, someone is wide awake and excited." She tells Rachel as she walks to the living room.
"He's not the only one, babe." Rachel says as she gets up to walk to Santana. "Hi baby Riley, are you enjoying your new home?" she asks him as she gently grazes his chin with her finger.
Hearing the quite familiar voice, Riley looks to the side and focus his attention to the other familiar face and makes a tiny noise that causes Santana to raise her eyebrow. "Already missing your mom, huh? Yeah, I called it." She smiles at the two, the looks at the couch to see Dex waiting. "We need to introduce, Rach. We don't want him to get jealous.."
Maribel, who was done placing everything, join the family, hearing the last sentence her daughter just said. "Let me help." She walks to Dex, pats his head a couple of times, then holds his collar. "No running, stay calm."
"Babe, maybe you should hold Riley, Dex already saw you." Santana says and hands the boy to her wife.
Rachel carefully holds onto Riley, smiling at how he looks. "Hello." she carefully walks with the baby in her arms, she sits on the couch on one side of Dex, she looks over at the dog and smiles. "Dex, this is the baby, be gentle, okay?" Rachel turns a bit, allowing Dex to look at Riley.
Santana walks to stand next to her mom and pat Dex's head, who couldn't decide to which he's going to dedicate his attention. "When he grow up, you're going to be good friends, bud, but for now no touching. Can we trust you to protect our baby, Dex?" The dog looks between his owners, then leans in just a little to sniff the baby. The smell is familiar and he makes the connections in his head; this is the new human-puppy. Dex let out a small bark and wags his tail.
"I'm guessing this is a good response?" Maribel asks the girls.
"Knowing him, a very good response." Rachel answers while cuddling the baby for a little bit. "Do you want to hold him, Maribel?" she asks and looks over at her mother-in-law.
"I'd never say no to that, Rachel." Maribel's face light up and now that Dex is calm, she moves to Rachel's side. She leans down and take her grandson in her arms, holding him tightly against her and smiles. "You better remember me the next time I visit, little one, because I'm your grandma and I love you so much."
Santana watches them, the smile refuses to leave her face today and she doesn't have a problem with that. "I know we agreed on bathing him before he goes to bed at night, but I don't want the hospital smell on him and it's really hot, I'm sure he'd feel better after a bath." She suggest as she steps to where Rachel is and sits next to her.
"Well, how about you take him to get his bath, and…" Rachel leans in a bit to peck Santana's cheek. "Maribel and I can make a nice home-style breakfast." Rachel suggests. "If that's okay with you that is." she looks over at Maribel.
"I have no problem with that, but I think someone has..." Maribel says and tries not to laugh at her pouting daughter.
Santana's pouting face looks so much like Riley's when he's about to start crying. "This is his first bath home... A-Aren't we going to do it together?" She feels stupid doing it in front of her mother, but the hormones are still controlling her emotions and Santana can't help but act like that.
Rachel bit the side of her lower lip, nodded slowly then smiled. "Okay, that's fine." she says happily. "I was just suggesting so we could get that out of the way, that way you and Riley can get a nice smell of cooked bacon and eggs." she raises a brow and smiles some more.
Seeing that the expression on her daughter's face doesn't change, Maribel speaks up. "I can easily handle making breakfast. You should both take and bath the prince." She hands Riley to Rachel and place a soft kiss on his head. "And I can look after him if Rachel, sweetie, you want to take a shower or something. I'm here for you, girls, use it while you can." She says happily and with Dex following her, Maribel walks to the kitchen.
The pout on Santana's face turns back to a smile and she moves a little closer to her wife and place her head on her shoulder. "So that's set, we're doing it as a family." She says and kiss the side of Rachel's lips, then her son's hand.
"I guess so." Rachel smiles at the baby. "Let's get you bathed, sweetie." she says as she carefully stands up. "Did we get the baby bath thing, or do we not need it just yet?"
"We have it in our bath already... Let's see if he enjoys the water, then decide." Santana answers as the walk upstairs. "Is the robe in there too or to go get it?" She asks when they get in the corridor.
"Uh… I think it's there, but I can't be too sure." Rachel says before entering the bedroom. "I might take a bath after, I need it." she says with a soft chuckle.
"That's fine, it'd take some time to make breakfast and I won't complain about cuddling with Riley." Santana says as they get inside the bathroom. She walks to open faucet and placing her hand under the stream to make sure it's the right temperature. "Oh, his robe is just next to ours." She points at the rack after Rachel closes the door. "God, Rach, I can't believe he's here..." Santana lets out, looking with pure love at her wife and son.
"I couldn't either, but now that he's here, I can't imagine life without him." Rachel admits happily. "He's already an amazing little kiddo, and he hasn't been with us long."
Now that the bath is set, Santana steps closer to her wife and kiss her cheek. "We're going to embarrass him in front of his friends when he gets older..." She laughs and put her hand on her son's back. "Come on, let's get rid of the hospital smell."
"Yes ma'am." Rachel nods in agreement.
After the youngest member of the family got his bath, he was fed then was put down for his nap. Rachel and Santana barely wanted to leave his side for anything, so Maribel decided to take their food upstairs to their room and eat. The three conversed for a little bit, talking about how happy they are, which wasn't completely out of the ordinary considering that the reason for such happiness was sleeping in his crib. Time went by fast during their conversing, that before they knew it, it was inching to 1:30, and as much as Santana wanted to continue the conversation, she received a call from the club. The much needed rest that she expected to get would have to wait until after everything is settled down, which Rachel and Maribel understood and told Santana that she had nothing to worry about. Riley did wake up for a little bit, due to being hungry, thus Santana went to feed him. After she was done Riley fell back to sleep. And so, Santana got dressed and left the household to handle this business that couldn't wait until after she was rested.
While Santana was away, Rachel and Maribel talked for a little bit, discussing some random topics that got brought up in the media. Afterwards, Maribel left the room to get some rest herself, she was a little tired so it was more than reasonable. This left Rachel alone with Riley, and the baby was still sleeping in his crib, what could Rachel do while she awaits to tend to what the baby wants or needs? Rachel decided to take a little bath to help her relax from her obvious excited attitude, she had placed the baby monitor on the counter in case he wakes up from his nap. About half an hour later, Riley did wake up, which Rachel got out of the tub, dried off and quickly got on her 'Around the house' clothes on, which really consisted of a tanktop and a pair of shorts that stop at the knees. Rachel walked to the crying Riley and picked him up, she checked him to make sure he wasn't, well... Poopy. Which he was, so Rachel went to change him, it was easy for her to do it since she had a little bit of experience in baby care, but she was still afraid of doing something wrong. After the baby was changed, he was still a little restless, he wasn't as tired anymore. Rachel decided to make a little comfort area on the floor for her and Riley, she laid beside him and flipped a couple pages in a book. She started to read to the baby, which ultimately calmed him down, and even further proved Santana's point that Riley will calm down for Rachel easily.
Meanwhile, Santana was back to being a boss way early than she expected. She hated herself that less than 24 hours after her son was born, she had to go to work, but her assistant called, she apologized like a million times until Santana stopped her and told her to get to the point. The young woman told her there was a sort of an emergency with one of the clients and asked her how she'd like to handle it and about an hour later Santana found herself at the club. She wasn't supposed to be so active yet, but didn't really have much of a choice. Since she didn't have the time to prepare a bottle for Riley before she left, Santana wanted to finish this thing as fast as possible so her son won't be hungry for a moment while she's not there. Her assistant filled her in and it seemed like even a bigger issue than she thought; someone took the play too seriously and too far. The Latina was not happy; not that she had to leave her family just a day after giving birth and not that someone hurt one of her girls. It took some yelling and a promise of a lawsuit, then one of the guards to take the woman out of the club. Santana then went to the girl who got hurt and talked to her. She told her she'd make sure the woman will get punished and pay her and that the girl didn't need to worry about anything. She told one of the other girls who wasn't working to take her to the ER and also have them write everything they find and treat. She had a short talk with the others, promising them she won't allow things like that to happen and will do her best to protect them. After that, Santana got into her car to drive back home while talking to the club's lawyer, then her assistant. She was still on the phone when she went through the front door, but less furious and stressed.
"Alright, Lindsay, call me before you leave to go home with all the details or before if anything else happened..." Santana says to her assistant and damn, she's so glad she found such a great one or else she has no idea what she would've done. "No, it's ok, I had to be there..." She reassures the girl, who felt really bad for calling to get her boss there. "I know you all want to hear about him and everything and I promise to tell the story once I'm fully back, we just need time..." Santana talks and looks around the ground floor to see if either her mom or wife are there, then walks upstairs. "Ok, sweetie, thank you and we'll talk later." Santana hangs up and slowly opens their bedroom door. She beams at the sight and feel like she was back in their little bubble once again. "Hey, honey." She says and sits on the bed to take her shoes off.
Rachel slightly looked up at Santana and smiled. "Hi, I was just reading to our son since he was a little pumped up after his nap." she says and looks down at Riley who must have fallen asleep while Rachel was reading to him. "I didn't even notice that he fell asleep until a little bit ago."
"I hope you're ready for about ten more years of reading, because obviously it's the thing that calms him down." Santana says and pulls her hair up. It's such a hot day today. She then walks to the little area Rachel set.
"I am more than ready for that, but at the same time you could start reading to him as well." Rachel points out with a smirk on her face. "This little guy is going to grow up to be amazing, I just know it." she says proudly.
"I think reading is your thing, babe." Santana sits next to her wife and cups her face, placing a couple of peck on her lips. "And of course he will be, he already is." She leans in to sniff Riley's head, then place her hand on his small body. "It's only been a couple of hours, but it felt like days..."
Rachel's smile turned a bit smaller as she takes in this moment. "It's going to suck when you have to work late again, he might be obsessed with me now, but that doesn't mean it'll stay that way for long." she says.
Santana pulls her knees close to chest and sighs. "I wish I didn't have to, I'd love for Dani to come here and, like, be together all the time..." Her facial expression turns more serious. "You're my first priority, but it also mean we need money... And after what happened at club, it became clearer that I can't abandon these girls, they're my responsibility too." Owning and running her own club was huge for Santana and the promise she made earlier wasn't in vain, just words to keep the girls there.
"What did happen at the club?" Rachel asks, feeling a bit obliged in her own right to ask.
"Some as-" Santana started, but stops herself from cursing in front of their son; he can't understand yet, but it doesn't matter to her. "There was this woman who thought because she gave the girl she was with a big tip, the contract is no longer matter and she can do whatever she wants..." Santana says and grits her teeth; she was there once, she knows well enough. "I had to send the girl to the hospital. It wasn't life threatening, but she was hurt."
"Which… I know I am meddling a little, but who is in the hospital?" Rachel further asks, sitting up a bit more so she could have a better look at Santana. "Maybe we could send them a basket or something, in hopes that they get better soon?" she suggests.
Santana looks into her wife's eyes for a couple of seconds, smiling like an idiot. "Just one of the many reasons I love you so much..." She tells her. "It'd be very nice, hon, thank you." She reaches with her free hand to touch Rachel's leg. "Did you get to have your bath and relax at all?"
Rachel raises a brow and nodded. "Yes, yes I did." she says quietly. "You need to relax though, and I would do it now before lil' man wakes up." Rachel looks down at Riley and sighs happily. "He's so precious…"
"With all the love he gets from everyone, he might grow up thinking he's an actual prince." Santana softly chuckles. "Will you come snuggle with me or you're going to keep reading to him?" She asks while gently rubbing Riley's stomach.
"Alright, we can cuddle." Rachel slowly gets up and carefully picks up Riley. "Let me put him in his crib, and then we can cuddle all you want." she nods a couple times then turns to walk to the nursery room, she felt Riley move a bit, but that was to get comfortable against Rachel. She laid the baby in his crib, making sure everything in it was comfortable for him. She then made sure the baby monitor was on so that way he could be heard if he started crying.
While Rachel took their son to his room, Santana picked up the blanket and pillow Rachel set on the floor and put it aside, knowing they'll do it again very soon. She then changed into a t shirt and short shorts and let her hair down as Rachel walked back in and told her Riley is comfortable in his crib. It was hard to have even two doors between them, but he was safe and Santana had to get used to it. The second her head landed on the pillow, Santana felt just how tired she really was. She waited a second for Rachel to join her, then moved herself closer; resting her head on her wife's shoulder, her left hand over her middle and her left leg over Rachel's. They talked a little more, but soon enough both women fell asleep.
As for most of the summer so far, Dani had Beth over at her apartment to hang out, plus because of Beth's smartness, Dani could get the perfect acoustics for the apartment since she was pretty much converting part of the living room into a studio. Beth brought over some software that Dani could run on her laptop to test the area that she had set up, there was some trial and error, plus a few visits to Guitar Center to get just the right amount of studio insulation. After an hour of handy work, they were able to get the insulation installed where it was needed, with major thanks going to Beth after all the work they did. Yes, Dani is going to school for this stuff, but Beth had a lot of this stuff memorized from books she's read from when she was younger, so that played a huge part in getting this done. Beth and Emily were texting a bit, she mentioned a big surprise, and since Dani owed Beth a solid, she allowed Emily to come over. Plus, Dani loved having the two over, and because she was in such a great mood, she took it upon herself to order a pizza.
It took Emily some time to actually get to Dani's apartment, but eventually she parked her car in front of Dani's building, took her bag and made her way in. Excited to show her girlfriend her surprise, the redhead climbed the stairs fast and walked through the hall to where Dani's door was. Dressed in racer-back black shirt with a phrase on it, a peach-colored short shorts, white sandals and a Ray-Ban sunglasses and a hair in a messy bun, one Miss Davis knocks on the door.
Dani beats Beth to the door and opens in with a big grin on her face. "Oh, hey there, miss fashion."
"I either look like a total snob or scream gay right now." Emily jokes and pulls her sunglasses up.
"I think we've established you're very much gay, mostly, but not only, because you're totally into the blonde inside." Dani smirks and nudge her head towards the apartment. "About the snob part..."
"Dani…" Beth glares at her niece and folds her arms.
Dani puts her hands up in surrender and slowly backs into the apartment. "I was only joking. You have a lovely girlfriend, B."
Emily shakes her head. "I think it's our thing." She says and step closer to Beth. "I don't want you angry, but you look so cute when you glare at her."
"Thank you." Beth doesn't change her expression much. "I'm still upset." she mumbles to Emily as she looks to the ground.
"Yeah? Will this fix it?" Emily put her arms on Beth's waist and leans to capture her lips for a few moments. "How are you now?" She asks, their faces still close.
Beth's face lit up from Emily's kiss. "Uh... I…" she gulps. Usually when Emily kisses her, she stammers quite a bit, so being at a loss for words is kind of normal to the couple.
"So normal, good." Emily says with a smile and takes a few steps inside. "Do you think Dani would mind if we use her room for a few minutes? It's about my surprise." She asks her girlfriend quietly.
"D-Dani, Em and I need some privacy, would it be cool if we hung out in your room?" Beth looks over at her niece. "Please?" she adds.
From her seat on the couch, Dani turns her head to the girls, giving them a long stare before saying anything. "Alright." She nods. "Only until the pizza gets here and no funny business." She warns and turns back to the TV.
Emily takes Beth's hand and tugs on it. "Come on, lets go." She says eagerly.
Beth walks with Emily out of the living area and into Dani's room, she quietly shuts the door behind her then looks over at Emily. "So, what uh…" she bites her lip for a few seconds. "That surprise?"
"Remember I told you about wanting to get a tattoo?" Emily put her bag on the bed. She's so excited to show her girlfriend. "I know it's sudden, but you already know I'm spontaneous." She smiles and stand in front of the blonde. "I just came from the tattoo place. My friend came with me and well, I think the tattoo artist did a good job. Would you like to see?" Emily asks and bite her lip.
"Uh." Beth gulps. "Yeah, of course." she says with a smile. "Let's see it."
Emily nods once, then pulls her shirt over her bra and peels the bandage. And there it is, on the redhead's right side of ribs, a grey sewing machine with a red pin cushion and a tape measure next to it. Under it, in black beautiful letters, there is a quote that says 'Style is knowing who you are, what you want to say, and not giving a damn.' Emily looks at her girlfriend in hope. "So what do you think? Please tell me you like it."
"Th-That is…" Beth's face was a shade of red, she knows that Emily's intentions are to show the tattoo, but Beth can't really help the blushing because its her girlfriend's body. 'That body… That's what perfection looks like, right?' she shakes her perversions out of her head. "Beautiful tattoo, Em." she says with a smile.
Emily's own smile grows wider. "Thanks, baby." She says, then drops her shirt back down and cups Beth's face. "It means a lot that you like it." And before the blonde could do anything, Emily kisses her again, pulling her as close as she could.
Beth let out a soft moan against her girlfriend's lips, really enjoying how much her compliment meant to her. She runs one hand against Emily's stomach, just wanting to touch her outside of the kiss.
It's not like their kisses aren't always amazing, but to add to it her girlfriend's moans and her touch? Emily's knees feel weak. She keeps one hand on Beth's soft cheek and places the other on her back, carefully walking with her to the bed. She pulls away just a little, tiny, bit and says, "I t-think we still have some time."
"Time… Yeah." Beth nods a couple times with her face a shade of crimson at this rate. "What do we… Uhm…" she gulps, thinking to herself about how little she knows about relationships and all.
Emily opens her eyes and looks at her nervous girlfriend. She takes her hand and they both sit down. "Baby, you can tell me if it's too fast." Emily tells Beth and tucks a strand of hair behind the girl's ear.
Beth gives Emily an honest smile. "I've never… No one really has been this way with me at all, I've read countless of books on this, and did studies on paper about this, but I guess I still am nervous." she chuckles quietly. "I think… I know we're doing fine, I am just a little… Stage fright? That's a good term…"
The redhead put a hand on Beth back and scoots closer. "You're amazing, Beth, and I won't be exaggerating if I'd say your kisses are the highlight of my days and your lips are the sweetest." She says, her own cheeks turning a little red. "Just know we can take it as slow as you want, whatever you're cool with I am too." Emily tells her girlfriend with confidence.
When Beth hears this, she regains a bit of confidence back and locks her lips with Emily's. She leans her girlfriend down on the bed, having one hand rest on Emily's waist and the other running through her hair.
Emily gasps, a bit shocked by a few things that happened so fast, but she recovers quickly, wrapping her arms around her girlfriend's lower back. "So we've learned two new things today," She mumbles into the kiss. "You're a top, which is totally hot, and you've read tons of book about sex." Emily smirks and deepens the kiss. She pulls Beth closer and feels brave enough to give the blonde's ass a small squeeze before locking her arms better around Beth's waist.
"Mmm…" Beth muffles a moan against her girlfriend, she runs one hand towards Emily's chest, being careful not to add pressure to the area that she got the tattoo. She was gonna cup her girlfriend's breast but instead she runs her other hand through Emily's hair, pushing a bit more into the kiss.
They've kissed before, but this is a great development and now Emily is happier she decided not to wait and stop by to see Beth. The girl's touch makes her skin tingling and warm up, her smell is intoxicating and being in this position makes her feels things she hasn't felt for a long, long time. She cups Beth's face with one hand, wanting to explore more, and the other traces the small area of exposed skin that was revealed to her thanks to Beth's shirt raising up.
A shiver goes up Beth's spine the second Emily touches her, she was sort of used to the touching, when there was cloth between the hand and all, but this was new to her. Beth liked it quite a bit, so much so that she pressed herself some more against Emily out of her own control too.
Touching the small patch of skin opened Emily's appetite; she wanted more, she wanted all. It's too soon, she's well aware, but it didn't stop her fingers from feeling every inch they could get to. Asking for the slightest friction is a bit much, but the way Beth's body fit with hers drives Emily crazy.
Just as another moan was about to escape the redhead's lips, the door opens. "Pizza is he-" Dani stops, her eyes widen and her body freezes. She sees the girls jumping and anger trumps the huge feeling of awkwardness she feels.
Beth was shivering a bit at the sight of Dani. "D-D-Dani I-..."
"Emily, do you mind waiting in the living room? I need a word with my aunt." Dani says in a cold tone and without looking at either girls.
"Maybe it'd best if I left..." Emily feels helpless. She's not regretting the kiss, how could she? But feels bad for where it happened and she doesn't want Beth to get in trouble because of her.
"No." Dani's eyes snaps to the redhead's green ones. "You wait because we need to talk. Now please, the pizza is in there, you can start without us." Dani didn't even know she have it in her.
Emily gulps and squeezes her girlfriend's hand. She wants to say something, but Dani's stare tells her she better go. She mumbles she's sorry and walks out of the room.
Beth's eyes focused on the floor, she bites the inside of her lip and holds her hands together. "Dani… You're mad…" she gulps and closes her eyes.
"Maybe you and I have different definitions to the term 'funny business'." Dani folds her arms and looks at the blonde on her bed. "Of course I'm mad, Beth. My apartment was always open for you and you saw, not only that I don't have a problem with Emily being here, I'm also happy for you." She hates it, but a line was crossed. "Like you wouldn't have done it on your mom's bed, I'd expect you to not do it here. I get how it's like, believe me, but I thought you have more respect for me." Dani says and looks away.
"I do have respect for you, a lot of it." Beth stood up in protest. "Nothing was going to happen in your bed, I wasn't going to have sex with her in your home despite what you might think." she really hated that Dani was upset, and hated herself even more for protesting. "I'm sorry for making out with my girlfriend on your bed, I will own up to that no problem." she states. "But I am not a pent up teenager that requires sex from her first relationship, I have control over my personal needs." Beth finishes then sits back down on the bed.
Dani's anger fades a little, but worry takes it's place instead. "It's a slippery slope, B. You kissed and it gets heated and before you know it..." She's not going to finish this sentence. "You're smart, I don't doubt that, but whether you acknowledge it or not, you're still 16 and this age has its own pace..." Her moms can never, ever find out about this conversation or she won't hear the end of it until the rest of her life. "My first concern is you; I don't want you to regret anything. I also want you to still be able to come here, because if your mom finds out that this is what's happening when you're here, she'd never let you come by anymore." Dani explains.
Beth takes in what Dani said, she was more than understanding about what Dani said, but it didn't change how defeated Beth felt herself. "My own mom doesn't trust me when I say I can handle a relationship…" she stood up and started to walk over to Dani, she slightly looks at Dani with a broken look. "I didn't think my best friend wouldn't trust me either." she looks away from Dani and walks past her, she grabs her coat from the dining chair and heads towards the door. "I'm going home, you two enjoy." Beth announces as she opens the door and shuts it behind her.
"Fuck." Dani lets out a deep sighs and still looks at the door like Beth will come back, but Dani knows better. Those words had to be said, they needed to talk about it. Dani knows how it's like to be in love at a young age and how a pretty innocent kissing can turn to more. But she feels like a mom and that's not her place in Beth's life, in fact it's just became clearer she's not ready to be anyone's mom yet. She can't believe Beth actually left and for a moment she thought of going after her, but decided against it. It's their first... Well, can she call it a fight? Dani doesn't even know. Maybe talking to Emily would do something, help somehow.
In the living room, just a few feet from the front door, Emily stands with confusion all over her face. She got a glimpse of her girlfriend's face before she left and she never saw Beth sad before, it broke her heart. It was her fault; she's the older one, she has the experience, she should've known better. Now because she's obsessed with Beth's lips, they're all in this big mess. "Dani, don't be mad at her, it wasn't her fault..." Emily starts saying when Dani walks to the living room.
"Don't. It's her fault, my fault... All of us are at fault." She says and sits on the couch, Emily quickly joins her. "She's my best friend, but she's also family. All I saw when I came in there was..." Dani takes a breath and looks to the side, afraid to get angry again. "My little sister doing something she's too young to be doing. And before you even think about it, I know how it like and that I'm only a few years older than her, which what makes it so ridiculous." Dani looks back at Emily.
Emily pulls one leg on the couch and turns her body so she could look better at Dani. "Look, I know you're close, Beth talks about you a lot and I don't need to tell you she feels the same about you." She lets her hair down only to pull it back up. "She'd never do anything to hurt you and we weren't doing-"
"Come on, you want to tell me the gentle touches wouldn't have turned to something more if I hadn't come in?"
"Dani..." Emily sighs; this is so uncomfortable. "It's not my place to share things from our relationship, especially when Beth is clearly upset... But I'm telling you, we know where we stand and neither of us was going to let it get any further." She tells the other girl with confidence.
"I just... It's not only the going too far thing, because you can argue it's not my business. Her older sister is my mom, her mom is my grandma and both would kill me and you if they knew."
Emily raises her eyebrow in challenge. "Know what? Dani, couple kiss. I'm sorry it was on your bed, I truly am, but nothing happened or was about to." She stresses the facts once more. "If she decides to do something, it's her choice to make and we both know just how smart Beth is, she knows there would be consequences. She doesn't need another parent, she needs her best friend."
Dani knew Emily was right. She wanted Beth to stay with her as much as possible because she loves hanging out with her best friend, who happens to be her aunt as well. She wants it to continue and she'll keep protecting Beth, but maybe they need to talk about lines between them now that the younger one has a girlfriend. This shouldn't tear them apart, they can't let this happen.
Dani nods and then punch Emily's arm. "Don't let this happens again or hurt my best friend."
The redhead rolls her eyes and chuckles. "I like her too much."
'Like, huh? That's why you stuck around to get me to understand and try to make peace, because you like her.' Dani stops herself from giggling; she just may start a little bet with herself about who's going to say it first and when. "I'll give her sometime, then call her later, but you should go after her."
Emily stands up and straightens her shirt. "I'll put a good word for you." She jokes. "You'll be back to being fine before you notice. I'll try to catch her and take her for an ice cream or something until you call." Emily says and go to grab her bag. The two says their goodbyes and while one is going to find her girlfriend, the other goes to the couch and cuddles into herself, taking time to think.
Back at the Lopez household, Rachel and Santana spent as much time as they could to cuddle, it was their thing, and it was something they needed. Riley woke up at some point and before Rachel or Santana got to him, Maribel was walking around the nursery room with him in her arms. Santana loved seeing her mother and the baby interact, but she needed to feed him most likely. Maribel and Rachel decided that since baby Riley was getting fed, that they should start on dinner to feed themselves. About two hours later, the family had their dinner, Riley was a bit antsier in comparison to how he was prior, this did scare Santana a bit because of how awake he was. Maribel on the other hand laughed at the fact, she told Santana about when she was a baby and how she was restless herself. That lightened the mood a bit for the younger Lopez as she watches Rachel take Riley up to his room to put him down for the night, now Santana needed to occupy herself a bit, best she can do is watch TV up in her room and wait for Rachel.
The soothing thing about the nursery being next to their room is that the baby monitors will sound clear, and right now Santana was enjoying this story that Rachel was reading to Riley. It was a story about a peasant boy that falls in love with a royal woman, and how he works to get a chance with this said woman, but along the way he finds this woman who had loved the peasant boy since they were younger. It was a cutesy romance story, which was why Santana loved it so much. She could listen to it forever if possible, and she did until…
"San?" Kurt calls out from outside the door. "How come you wanted me to come by?" he asks as he sees the dazed look in Santana's eyes from Rachel reading. "Earth to Satan." he calls out.
Santana's body jerks at the sudden new voice in the room. She pouts uncontrollably, not liking that Riley's story time was interrupted, but then she sees her best friend and her face lights up. "Kurt!" She gets up to hug him. "I'm glad you could stop by."
Kurt raised a brow then smiled. "Well, thanks." he says while returning the hug. "I am still wondering what's up, you call me and ask me to come by kind of late so I assumed something was wrong."
"No, nothing is wrong." Santana shakes her head and walks back to bed. She pats the space next to her and says, "Come on, like old time." She smiles at him.
"Old times meaning you would tell me not to sit on your bed, because I apparently had fairy dust in my butt cheeks?" Kurt asks with a smirk as he walks over to the bed and sits on the spot next to Santana. "So what's up?" he asks.
Santana rolls her eyes and let out a small laugh. She then takes her breath, her expression changes to a more serious one. "So... Well, I can say for myself that since I got to New York and after we actually became friends, you turned up to be my best friend. You're like a brother to me." Santana says and reaches for Kurt's hand. "You and Rach go even more back and she loves you very much. You're very important to both of us." She gives him a warm smile. "Between all the decisions related to Riley's birth, one of the most important ones we had to make was who is going to be his godparents." Santana licks her lips and her heart actually speeds up. "We had options, but you were the one we straight away agreed on. Kurt, we have no doubt that if anything ever happens to us, we know you'd be an amazing parent to him. Like with Dani, you'll be a role model and someone he could go to if he'd feel he can't come to us and we'll be calm knowing he's in good hands." Santana takes Kurt's other hand. "Will you agree to be Riley's godfather?" She asks and bite her lips.
"S-San…" Kurt was taken aback by everything Santana had said, he never really thought that he was held in such high regard. His emotions were quickly rising, in a good way, he smiles and nods a few times. "I-I'd love to." Kurt says happily.
Santana claps her hands a couple of time, then pulls her best friend into a tight hug. "Thank you, Kurt. This makes me so happy and in a way, calms me. I know that my son will be safe no matter what the future holds." She tells him and a few tears runs down her cheeks and end on his shoulder.
"Oh sweetie..." Kurt holds onto Santana, gently stroking her back. "I'm happy to consider you guys family, I truly am." He says without any hesitation. "Love you, so much."
"I love you too." Santana kisses his cheek, then leans back on her pillow. "Now that it's finally out and settled and Rach still with the baby, it's time for you to tell Auntie Snixx what's new in your life." She grins. "And by what I mean who."
"No one, and nothing." Kurt sighs. "Surprisingly there are more straight males at Vogue than women, although this one girl tried to set me up with a F.T.M, he was fun but deep down..." He shrugs. "Nothing clicked, at all."
"Ugh, this is so freaking unfair." Santana genuinely feels frustrated. "You should be meeting an amazing guy, who'd be lucky to have you, fall in love and all that, then bring Riley a friend." She states like it's the most obvious thing. "I need to dig and find where all the decent gay guys are..." Santana says to herself more than to Kurt.
"I think I can handle myself in that department, thank you very much." Kurt chuckles. "Maybe I'm just at the 'Rachel' phase in my life."
Santana's brow arches in perfect shape as she tilts her head. "That's the mother of my children you are talking about, you better add an explanation."
"Focused more on career than relationships." Kurt says as he raises a brow, mirroring Santana's expression. "What did you think I meant?"
"It can mean a lot of things." Santana brushes it off. "Kurt, seriously, we're not kids anymore. You've been focusing on your career for a long time, you need more than that. I know you miss it, so you shouldn't give up..." Her expression changes back to warming and caring as she speaks.
"Trust me, I miss it plenty..." Kurt admits. "Doesn't mean I'll get anywhere in life by missing the feel of relationships 24/7..."
"Of course," She holds his hand and leans against his side. "But I don't believe in 'I'll just live my life and love will find me' shit. You need to keep going out and trying, not stepping towards giving up."
"That's the thing, I'm not trying to get it to follow me." Kurt holds Santana, he frowns a slight amount due to how lonely he is at home.
"If after everything I did and how I was, the universe let me find love and be happy, you must get it too." She doesn't just telling him that, Santana really believe in what she's saying. "Don't quit, your prince is out there and you'll find him."
"Yeah… Maybe." Kurt purses his lips and keeps his eyes focused on the floor, he shrugs while resting his head against Santana's. "That baby monitor has been awfully quiet for a while, are the batteries in it good?" he asks.
Santana raises her head to look at the monitor. "Yeah, we put new ones..." She answers and nods. "Let me just go check what's up." She gets up and walks out of the room and to Riley's. The first thing Santana sees is her son sleeping peacefully in his crib, which makes her smile, then she tilts her head at seeing her wife next to the crib. Sleeping. She steps closer to Rachel and takes the book she was reading and places it in the small bookshelf. Santana then leans down, "Honey, wake up." She whispers while stroking the woman's arm.
Rachel lets out a quiet groan as she slowly opens her eyes, she had a pout like expression on her face. "But San…" she rubs her eyes and slowly sits up. "I'm so tired." Rachel mumbles.
"I know, babe." All Santana wants to do right this second is to cup her wife's face and pecks her lips again and again. The cute expression on her face just melt Santana's heart. "But our bed is way more comfy and has me in it, so..." Santana puts one arm around Rachel's body and holds her hand with the other. "Let's go to our room and tuck you in."
"Fine..." Rachel's pout turned to a slight smile, she gets up from the floor and keeps close to her wife. "I dreamt that we were in that world from the book, and how we ended up together and all..."
"We're soul mates, Rach, we're destined to be together no matter what." That just might be the cheesiest thing Santana ever said, but it's only for Rachel's ears, so it's fine. They walk together the small distance between the rooms and enter to their own bedroom. "I found Sleeping Beauty next to Riley's crib and brought her here." She softly laughs after telling Kurt.
"And thus, I take my leave." Kurt gets up and smiles a bit. "I hope you two have a great night." He walks to the girls, pecking their cheeks then moves past them to leave the house.
Rachel looks at Kurt as he left. "Is it me, or has Kurt been feeling more and more depressed lately?" She asks as she walks to the bed.
Santana sighs as she walks with Rachel to the bed. "He doesn't have much luck in the love department and I think he's done trying or close to it..." She tells her wife. "It's so fucked up! Seriously, we're living in freaking New York City and he can't find one man to mash his lips and walk towards the sunset with?" Santana says with a frustrated tone as she gets under the blanket on her side.
"Do you know if he has a type?" Rachel asks.
"He has some preferences." Santana nods and scoots over to Rachel's side, cuddling to her wife's body.
"Well, why don't we find out what those preferences are and scope out some guys for him?" Rachel looks over at her wife. "Or would that be bad?"
"It's not a bad idea, I just don't know where we'd find any." Santana says and starts tracing her index finger against Rachel's stomach. "I'm either here or at the club and I won't find any match there..." Now that Santana thinks about it, it's kind of strange that she doesn't really know any gay guys.
"Maybe sign him up for online dating?" Rachel shrugs. "I could check if some of my old theater buddies are single and into guys, but knowing them... Too preppy."
"We can try to set him a profile on a dating website, but we'd need to team up if we'd find someone for him because that will require some convincing work." Santana looks up at her wife with a small smile. Maybe they could find someone worthy and finally see Kurt being truly happy.
"And we would have to keep it from him until we find the perfect guy." The brunette stresses that. "Otherwise we'll have another bachelor party incident..."
Santana bites her lip to stop herself from laughing. "Agreed." She says and leans to peck Rachel's lips. "A kiss for good luck in our secret mission." Santana then returns to snuggle closely to her wife and they both started to drift to sleep. At least until Riley's next feeding time.
After what had happened with Beth and Emily leaving, Dani just stared at the TV for a little while. She might've crossed a line or two, but she felt like she wasn't completely wrong. Still, Beth got hurt and Dani wanted to fix it. Like she told Emily, she wanted to give Beth some time to cool off, and herself, so she put off calling her until later. Instead, after a little more than an hour of blank starting at the TV and thinking of how the day got screwed, the purple-haired girl got up from the couch. She went to the little studio area Beth and her set up earlier, thinking to give it a short test. At first, she was just playing around with some of the stuff she was already familiar with, but then Dani really got into it. It was like nothing existed anymore; she was in her own little world, her headset on, mixing different melodies and creating music. It was like therapy for her, maybe better because she got to bring up any past event, put any emotion and say whatever she wanted in a form of music without actually saying the words, see the look in people's eyes or feel anxious.
Without noticing, a few hours gone by. She wouldn't stopped, she could've gone the whole night like that, but her stomach growled in demand for food. So Dani saved her work and went to make herself something to eat. She was so happy she learned how to cook from her mom, it what keeps her healthy and saves her a lot of much needed money. Continuing that alone time, Dani didn't use her phone or watched something, she put on some relaxing music and listened to it while eating. She did it even while taking a cold shower, because wow, it was one of the hottest days in a while. Only when it was time to call it a night did she turned off her laptop and grabbed her phone.
Dani got to bed and tapped her screen. She gasped when she saw the tiny icon indicating she has a voicemail. Only one person could've left it and she hated herself for being too into her little bubble that she missed a call from her fiancée. After she rolled her eyes at herself and put hating on herself for later, she tapped the icon and put the device against her ear.
"Hey babe... It's me, I had a couple of things to tell you... One, congrats on the baby brother, I hope for the best for the family... Number two..." Dani heard Marley sighs and got nervous. "I got some news that... I know you will hate, but I need you to be strong for me..." She heard her fiancée sniffles and wanted to reach for her so badly, to comfort her somehow. "I-I'm going overseas, and... I won't be able to talk as much..." Marley's breathing was shaky. "They... They needed a batch of recruits, for some emergency... I don't have a reason why, hopefully I find out soon." Marley takes a deep breath. "Be strong for me, my muse... I need you to do that for me, please... I love you, I'll be home soon..."
The message ended and Dani was frozen. That somewhat calm feeling provided by knowing that Marley was on US soil was snatched from her. Her fiancée was shipped to a warzone and in seconds everything became ten times more real, scarier. Dani dropped her phone, not caring if it landed on the bed or on the floor, and tears began to slide down her cheeks. She wanted to scream, she wanted to go to Marley's base and bring her back home or call her and tell her to stop playing war and return to her. But in reality, Dani barely could move, the best she could do was to curl into a shape of a ball and cover her whole body with a blanket as she sobbed. The fear of losing Marley hit every nerve in her body and caused her to shake. She should've been the bad guy and told Marley not to enlist in the first place, but Dani didn't believe her own thoughts; she would've never stop the woman she love from doing something.
She cried until her eyes stung and she barely could breathe. Dani got up from the bed and walked to the living room, not seeing a point of washing her face since she was sign to spend the night crying. The thoughts were hunting her, every single scenario of what can happen to Marley, each terrifying her more; from kidnaping, to losing a limb to PTSD and.. Dani shook her head. She refused to let even the thought cross her mind, not willing to take the chance that it'd become reality. Dani went back to the studio area, deciding that music is the only thing that could keep her together at the moment.
She knew she had to call and leave a message to her fiancée, telling her she will be fine and wishing her good luck and to come back soon. But first, Dani had to let everything go and collect herself again. Tears, music and breathing exercises was how she planned on surviving the night. She also made a note in her head to dedicate some time each day to pray; she wasn't a really strong believer, but she had to do something, to feel like somehow she helps keeping Marley safe.
Wrapped in one of Marley's big shirts and with her headset blasting music in her ears, Dani got comfortable in her chair. The hours passed by and at some point she was able to fall asleep on the desk and get just a few hours of sleep.
'till next time.
