So I'm super excited. But enough about me. Let's get to the next chapter shall we. Sorry to keep you guys waiting so long. So without further ado. Here is chapter 21.
Friday. Eiri awoke to find himself still in the hospital. Tears spilled from his eyes once more. He knew. This was it. He would never see his lover again. His heart sank through his chest in agony. He knew he had to see Shuichi one last time before he let him go.
~The Shindou Household~
Mrs. Shindou remained in bed. Her husband came in to get her out of bed.
"Honey." He said softly in her ear. "It's time to get up."
"I don't want to get up." She whispered hoarsely.
"I know you don't want to, honey," he said, "but you have to."
She didn't move. Mr. Shindou gave up at this point. Instead, he went to Maiko's room to check if she was awake. To his disappointment, she was still in bed too. He sighed and turned to go down stairs. A sharp pain in his chest made him stop in his tracks. Tears began to spill from his eyes and he grabbed on to the railing to steady himself.
"Shuichi." He cried silently to himself. "My son."
~Hiroshi's Apartment~
Hiroshi woke up early that morning but he didn't get out of bed. The picture of him and Shuichi sat on the night stand next to his bed. So many memories were racing through his mind. The day he and Shuichi first met; their first talent contest together; their first sleep over; the first time they went to a concert together; the day they swore to always be best friends.
Hiroshi clutched his sheets tightly. That memory was probably the most painful memory to think about. He buried his face in his pillow and cried silently to himself.
"Shuichi." He wept in agony.
~In the Horizon~
"There's…so much…sadness." Shuichi whispered as he clutched his chest tightly. "All for me."
"I know, sweet heart." The woman replied sadly.
"You need to reach out to that boy quickly, son." The man told him. "He could very well be your only chance of survival."
"Right!" Shuichi said with sudden realization. "I have to focus. Focus"
~At the Seguchi Residence~
Tohma came home to a quiet house. He had been staying at NG Records for quite some time. The last thing he wanted was to deal with Mika's nagging.
"Mika!" He called out to her. No answer came. "Mika?" Still no response. "Where could she possibly be this early in the morning?"
Tohma checked his phone. He hadn't received any phone calls as of late which to him was very odd.
"I wonder if Mr. Shinagawa got the job done." He said to himself. "Hm. Maybe I'll go see Eiri a bit later on."
Suddenly, a knock came at the door. Who could that be this early in the morning? He went to answer it? He opened the door only to find…
~Seventeen Hours Earlier~
"Are you serious?" The chief of police asked completely floored.
"Yes, sir." An officer answered.
"How many times has he done favors for him?" The chief asked.
"More than twenty times." The officer replied.
"Plus, he's been involved in the murder of two convicted felons and a tutor." The chief added.
"So he's guilty?" The officer asked.
"Famous or not," the chief said, "he can't get away with this. This is a serious matter. Two convicted felons and an assassin; he's guilty."
"And I know where you can find him." Came a voice from behind them. The chief and his deputy turned around to face the man that had interrupted them. They both looked surprised.
"Are…you…" the officer said pointing at the man.
The man removed his sunglasses. "That's right. I'll tell you where he is. But first you have to tell me something."
"What is it that you want to know?" The chief asked.
~The Seguchi Residence~
"Can I help you, officers?" Tohma asked with his signature fake smile.
"Tohma Seguchi?" One officer asked.
"Yes, that's me." He replied casually.
"You're under arrest." The officer said. "Cuff him."
The cops pushed the door open and grabbed Tohma by the arms, pinning them behind him.
"Wait a minute." Tohma said now starting to panic. "Under arrest? For what? What's going on?"
"Attempted murder in the first degree," the lead officer explained, "rape, especially in the state of New York, and affiliations with a professional killer."
"That's absurd!" Tohma replied defensively.
"Is it?" Came a familiar voice.
Tohma's mouth dropped when out of nowhere came Ryuichi.
"Ryu?" Tohma said seeming shocked. "What are you doing here? What's going on?"
"As if you don't already know." Ryuichi said bitterly.
Before Tohma could say another word, Ryuichi punched him in the gut, hard. The blonde went down on his knees coughing and gasping for air.
"You hired that mother fucker to kill Shuichi, didn't you?" Ryuichi asked coldly. "That's the same guy who was hired to murder my mother and father."
Tohma's eyes went wide with genuine shock. He had no idea that Junochi was the one responsible for their deaths. Ryuichi didn't look like the kind of person who had a dark past. He had always been good at hiding his true emotions behind his laughter and constant hyperactive behavior. Tohma hung his head in shame.
"Ryu…" he said in a low voice, "I didn't…I'm so sorry."
There was a long moment of silence before the brunette answered him.
"Hm. Yeah I'm sure you are, Tohma." Ryuichi replied sarcastically. Then he became serious. "We're done. You and I are no longer band mates. And we most certainly are no longer friends. Get him out of my sight."
With that, the police took Tohma away in the police car. But out of nowhere, a bunch of paparazzi jumped out with cameras and microphones. They wanted questions to all of their answers.
"Ryuichi, what just happened?" One of them asked.
"Does this have anything to do with Nittle Grasper?" Another asked.
"Does this have anything to do with Bad Luck's lead singer Shuichi Shindou?" Came another.
Ryuichi said nothing. Two cops came to his rescue and shielded him from the bombarding paparazzi. Another cop came over and lead him over to his car. Ryuichi hurried inside the back seat and the cop closed the door. He hurried to the driver's seat. They sped off as fast as they could, leaving the paparazzi in the dust with unanswered questions.
"Thank you for your help, Mr. Sakuma." The officer in the passenger seat said.
"No problem." Ryuichi replied with a smile. Tears filled his eyes and he tried desperately not to release them. He had finally gotten justice for his parents murder. And he finally exposed Tohma for the monster that he really was.
But he wasn't finished yet. He needed to talk to his lover soon and tell him everything. However, it wasn't going to be easy. It was either going to bring them closer together or break them apart forever.
~Four Hours Later~
Mr. Shindou had gotten dressed to go to the hospital. He took his time though. The last thing he had wanted to do was take his only son off of life support. He went to his room to find his wife sitting in front of her vanity mirror brushing her hair; still in her night gown.
"Honey, how come you're not ready?" He asked her softly.
She didn't say a word. She continued brushing her hair, slowly. Her eyes were red and puffy. Had she been crying in her sleep? Mr. Shindou wasn't sure. He walked out of the room and down stairs to find Meiko in the kitchen. She was washing dishes; in her house clothes.
"Meiko, why aren't you ready yet?" Mr. Shindou asked getting frustrated.
"These dishes are dirty." Meiko replied in a low depressed voice.
"We don't have time for this right now," he told her in a stern voice, "put those down and go get ready!"
"They're dirty." She repeated. Her voice sounded almost dead.
Mr. Shindou walked up to her and grabbed the sponge from her hand. He then tried grabbing the porcelain bowl she had been washing, but Meiko kept a tight grip on it. It became a game of tug of war between the two.
"Let it go and go get ready!" He ordered.
"I don't want to!" Meiko screamed.
The bowl slipped from both of their hands and fell to the floor, breaking in half. Meiko then fell to her knees and cried in agony. It was then that Mr. Shindou realized they too, were in pain. They didn't want to go to the hospital. They didn't want to take Shuichi off of life support. Mr. Shindou knelt beside his daughter and held her in his arms.
"I know you don't want to let him go, sweetie." He said to her as he rocked her back and forth. "I don't either. But…we can't keep him like this. He doesn't deserve that. He should be at peace."
Mrs. Shindou stepped into the kitchen to find her daughter and husband on the kitchen floor crying. Her husband looked up at her. He saw their pain. He had seen it all along. He was trying to keep himself together; shielding himself from his own pain. But he knew he couldn't hide it any longer. So they cried together; in sorrow; in agony; in grief.
~ Hiroshi's Apartment~
He looked at himself in the mirror. The clothes on his back had been neatly ironed and his black shoes polished to a shine. And his hair had been nicely combed and pulled back into a pony tail. But…he couldn't stop the tears from flowing. He didn't want to do this. He didn't want to go to the hospital. Shuichi's parents would give the word to pull the plug.
Hiroshi didn't want that to happen. He wanted to hold on to Shuichi a little while longer. His hands started to tremble. He looked around for his phone. It was there on his bed. He picked it up and dialed K's number. It rang a few times before he finally answered.
"Mr. K," Hiroshi answered, "uh…can you…come and pick me up? I just…I just don't think I can…-yeah thanks. –Bye."
The red head dropped his cell phone on the floor and covered his face with both hands. He staggered over to his bed and sat down. Tears fell from his eyes like a waterfall as the thought of losing his best friend hit him hard.
"Shuichi!" Hiroshi cried in agony.
~An hour later~
Eiri got out of his hospital bed and put on his own clothes that had been sitting on a chair close by. The doctors had told him that he was under a lot of stress, which was why he coughed up blood. It wasn't anything new to Eiri. The images of the three men that nearly raped him however, scared him quite a bit.
Eiri couldn't worry about that now. He was going to see Shuichi one last time whether anyone liked it or not. Cautiously, he opened the door and checked the hallway to see if anyone was there. A few doctors passed by, but were unaware of his presence. Eiri looked up at the plaque next to his door. Room 203. His heart skipped a beat. He had been right next door to his lover the entire time.
Taking a deep breath, Eiri opened the door and entered quietly. Shuichi's room hadn't changed at all. The same wall paper and posters were there along with the radio on the stand next to the singer's bed. His hair looked as though it had been cut short. Eiri figured that Shuichi's mother must have done that herself.
He walked over to the right side of the boy's bed and sat down in a chair next to him.
"Hey." Eiri said quietly with a smile. "It's me, baby."
Shuichi's hand twitched once more at either Eiri's words or his touch. The blonde smiled at Shuichi and leaned forward to give him a kiss on the back of his hand. His skin felt soft and warm to the touch.
"I've missed you so much." Eiri whispered softly to the boy.
Eiri stayed silent for a long time. The tears were already starting to form in his eyes. He just didn't know where to start his sentence.
"I know it's probably too late already to tell you this," he started, "but I… …I want to let you know that…everything that I ever said to you that night… …I…I take it all back. …I didn't mean any of those things that I said. I didn't mean any of it. "That night…Seguchi came to see me before you got off of work. He said that…if I didn't get rid of you, he would do it himself. I…I couldn't understand why…he would think that you were a burden to me…I just…don't know."
Eiri broke down at that moment. He buried his face in the side of Shuichi's arm. He still had the boy's hand in his own. He sat up and wiped his face. Other than the sound of Shuichi's heart monitor, the silence was killing Eiri. He turned on the radio next to the bed. A love song was currently playing.
"That's better, isn't it?" He asked the comatose boy.
Eiri held his lover's hand in silence for a while. A chuckle came from his throat as he remembered what the detectives had told him about Tohma.
"You want to know what the funny thing is, Shu?" Eiri went on. "I found out that Seguchi was involved with Kitazawa and those bastards who nearly raped me. Can you believe that? My own…brother-in-law; the one person I trusted the most… …was willing to risk my life for his own amusement."
~In The Horizon~
At long last, he was there. Shuichi held a sea shell to his right ear. To him it felt awkward due to the fact that his right hand was being squeezed so tightly. But Shuichi didn't lose focus. He kept the sea shell to his ear and kept his eyes on the boy in the water. There were so many emotions swirling around inside of him; anger, regret, sadness, confusion. Even relief and hope raced through him. The boy was confessing what he knew and what he had just found out. This brought tears to Shuichi's eyes. To think that the one person who seemed the closest to the blonde, was the one person that betrayed him in the worse possible way.
~Shuichi's hospital room~
"You know it's weird." Eiri went on. "I just realized that…I hadn't told Seguchi where I was going that night I killed Kitazawa. I snuck out of the apartment. That bastard…followed me to his place and didn't even come to my aid until after I pulled the trigger. … … … …He wanted them to kill me. … …Because…if he couldn't have me, then no one could."
~The Horizon~
Shuichi felt disgusted. Words couldn't describe the amount of hate he felt at that moment for those that used the poor boy and left him in ruins. He understood now why the boy had betrayed him. And he couldn't blame him any longer. His heart; his very soul had suffered so much torture, he was terrified to let anyone in.
~The Hospital~
More tears came. Eiri was finding it extremely hard to hold them back. His heart ached as he continued to pour out his soul to Shuichi.
"I should have known." Eiri whispered softly. "I was just too weak and hopeless to see it. I couldn't even stand on my own two feet. … … …Because I was so weak."
There was another long moment of silence. Eiri sobbed in agony. He felt as if the world was caving in on him. His whole world was crumbling as his lover was being pulled away from him. It was then that he looked at his lover and poured out everything he had left.
"I love you, Shuichi." Eiri finally confessed. "…You're the only one who hasn't given up on me. …You were the one that came to my aid when I needed it most. … … … …You're the one who loved me…when no one else did. … … …I… … …I want you back. Please come back to me…Please don't leave me."
Eiri had finally said the words. He gave everything he had at that moment to the one person who had saved his life. Eiri remembered the moment when he was going to end it all. He was going to end his own life because he regretted killing the person he had once cared about. But it was Shuichi who had stormed in out of nowhere and saved his life. He had saved Eiri from committing suicide. The blonde put his head down and sobbed his heart out. He didn't care who heard him or saw him. He had finally let it all out.
~The Horizon~
Shuichi became overwhelmed with emotion. He had heard everything that the blonde had said. It was a sincere, yet emotional apology. Shuichi felt every bit of it. His tears became too many, overflowing like a waterfall. He dropped the sea shell and got to his feet. It was then that he had reached both of his hands out to the boy in the water with sincerity. This was it. Shuichi was ready this time. He was ready to pull the boy out of the darkness surrounding his soul. It was time to save them both.
