New Frontier- (a 'Legend Of Spyro' fic)

Disc.: I do not own this game series, if I did then Cynder and Spyro would already have kids and Spyro would be a Guardian in place of Ignitus so back off with your burning hatred!

A/N: So, we're finally settling back into the swing of things…not sure how many chapters are left to type out before this fic's over and done with, or if I should even attempt another sequel; if you guys think I should, then tell me so and what series you want this fic crossed over with next…if not, then thank me for my hard work and count this as the final chapter of Luna's adventures of jumping through other dimensions to help the residents there…until then, I'll just keep happily typing away until I'm finished up with this story.

Ch.21- Chasing Shadows

Luna and the others finally managed to catch up to Omega, the robot staring out at some desert ruins passively with his sensors locked onto everything that moved or didn't do anything.

"Mephiles appears to have headed for those ruins. He's most likely looking for the Chaos Emerald that's supposedly hidden there…" Rouge said as she pointed to the ruins, Shadow nodding at her while moving to stand next to the white dragoness.

"There's no question…he's looking for any Chaos Emerald he can find. He needs one if he wants to join with Iblis again, which is probably what he intends to do."

"Right…so, what'll we do now?" Luna asked as she looked out at the ruins sitting in the desert sands, Omega walking further ahead before he stopped to speak.

"(robotically) I will seal him before then." Omega said as he started to walk on ahead, Shadow jumping from pillar to pillar while Luna and Rouge flew off after them; this time, they would settle things or keep trying until Mephiles was nothing more than a memory that would fade over time.

(Inside the ruins)

After spending the better half of 2 hours searching the ruins by tracking Mephiles through his scent, the group of 4 finally managed to catch up with their target, the black and grey-white Hedgehog standing at the top of a huge flight of stairs.

"Mephiles!" Shadow called out to the other male Hedgehog, the other turning to look at them with a look of pure malice etched onto his face.

"I was expecting you sooner, but as you've probably guessed…it's already too late." Mephiles said as he held up a golden-yellow Chaos Emerald, a triumphant smirk settling onto his face.

"However, it's still not too late for you to change your mind…join me, Shadow; let us teach this pitiful world a lesson and rewrite the future. If you'd like, you can join me as well, Luna…don't you wanna protect your daughter from a future where she could end up dead at your feet?"

The white dragoness visibly flinched at the mention of Cadence, her ears going back in both fear and anger…how Mephiles found out about her daughter, Luna would probably never know; all she knew was that she had to protect her baby girl no matter what it took, but it wouldn't be through deceit and betrayal as she growled at Mephiles in her most threatening way without unleashing the full brunt of her powers. Shadow saw how the white dragoness' demeanor changed; if there was one thing the black and red Hedgehog hated, it was those who preyed on others by using their weaknesses against them as he glared at the black and grey-white Hedgehog hatefully with eyes narrowed angrily.

"Don't try to deceive us."

"What?"

"You have no desire for revenge…all you crave is destruction. Your only lust is to fuel Iblis until there's nothing left of Time itself; you won't get that chance, and you're even more pathetic than before if you're trying to use a mother's missing child against her…Luna isn't so weak that she'll join you just to save her child on the chance that you're lying to her, she's going to find her baby and get back home with her…as soon as she destroys you with our help."

"Hmph, it's a pity, Shadow the Hedgehog…a pity that you're willing to go against me. All of you…will pay with your lives!" Mephiles said as he called upon the Chaos Emerald in his possession, Luna and her friends jumping away from the stairs to fight with the other black Hedgehog.

After an hour of repeated Chaos Controls and water attacks coupled with nature strikes, Mephiles began melting away into a pool of black liquid that reminded one of mercury…the red and black Hedgehog drawing it into the Scepter of Darkness; but as soon as all the liquid was absorbed, the Scepter shattered into several thousand pieces and the crystal inside turned to dust before being blown away by a stray breeze.

"The Scepter…it's been destroyed!" Rouge said as she watched a portal form in front of all of them, Luna preparing more water attacks while Mephiles' voice echoed outwards from within the portal.

"The 'I' of now has absorbed your power through your shadow in the past…what may have worked 10, or even 20 years ago…no longer works here and now!" Mephiles shouted as he blew all of his opponents away with a shockwave, a wall of vines coming up to break their fall and help them stand up. Luna glared at the black and grey-white Hedgehog as he summoned up an army of clones to surround them.

2 Chaos Emeralds were twirling in the air behind Mephiles, their shimmering trails making an infinity symbol as the group of friends regained their bearings.

"Very impressive, Luna…calling upon the crystals to augment your energy and save your friends; the only thing that could stand up to my power is the nigh unlimited and timeless energy that only a dragon such as yourself could ever even hope to wield, but in the face of my own unrestrained power…none of you have a shadow of a chance to defeat me!"

"Hmph, so you say…next to us, to the one who has lived for 2,000 years…your power is the one that's limited!" Luna shouted as her friends got ready to fight Mephiles to the very limits of their abilities, and possibly even beyond.

"It's futile…the world will betray you; why fight at all? Why risk your lives to protect those who will persecute you later on?"

Shadow lowered his gaze to the ground, his mind recalling the precious memories and happier times he'd shared with Tails…how they would watch the stars fall and share slow kisses by the lake, the moments that his beloved two tailed fox would treat his injuries because Shadow was too stubborn to go to the doctor's office, and of course…all the times Tails had said 'I love you' to him; it was those memories that gave Shadow the resolve to stand against his enemy without hesitation as he removed the two golden rings from his wrists.

"If the world chooses to become my enemy…then I will fight like I always have…because I have someone worth fighting for, and you won't take me away from him!" Shadow said as he zoomed through the crowd of Mephiles clones and began to destroy all of them, Luna letting out burst after burst of water energy with renewed fury.

(With Blaze and Silver)

The purple cat and pale Hedgehog stood outside a canyon, the walls stretching high and far with no end in sight.

"I know how to save our world now…we don't have to change the past, ours or anyone else's…I'm sure of it." Silver said as he looked at the two Chaos Emeralds he was holding in his hands.

"So…you have a plan?" Blaze asked unsurely, caution exhibited in her posture as she eyed her friend.

"Yeah."

"Alright, then let's go…I sense his flames."

The two friends didn't say anything else the whole walk through the canyon, they knew that words would only be wasted on this moment as they kept going until they were stopped by Iblis…the creature glaring at them heatedly (cuz he's made of fire and brimstone, lol); Silver raised his gloved hands, psionic energy flowing through them as he returned the glare with one of his own.

"Come on, Iblis…this time, we'll finally stop you!"

Blaze nodded at Silver as she got into a familiar fighting stance, her own flames circling around her feet and lifting her skywards. The next few hours were spent hitting Iblis with psionic energy bursts and roundhouse kicks to his head, but eventually Iblis fell away and vanished; Silver and Blaze smirked in triumph at what they'd done, Iblis was finally gone for good.

Or so they thought when a pillar of magma shot upwards and nearly destroyed the ledge they were standing on, the purple cat and pale Hedgehog looking shocked as they watched the flames climb higher into the sky.

"Silver, use the Chaos Emeralds! Hurry, or the whole future will repeat itself in this timeline with no way of stopping it!"

"Right…Chaos Emeralds, lend me your power…Eternal Sun, entrusted to the Royal Family…fall into slumber with my soul, Iblis…you damned Flames of Disaster!"

Silver held up the Chaos Emeralds and prepared for unimaginable pain, the Flames being sucked into his body…but nothing happened, causing the pale Hedgehog to curse loudly as the Flames kept being drawn into the Emeralds.

"Damn it, why won't they accept me as their vessel?!"

Blaze knew they were running out of time, so she was prepared to make the ultimate sacrifice as she walked up to Silver and placed her hand on his shoulder as a soft smile fell onto her face.

"I'll take Iblis…after all, my soul is already alit with flames; there's no doubt that I will be accepted." Blaze said as she grabbed the Emeralds from Silver's hands, the aqua-green and white Chaos Emeralds drawing the power away from them and relocating it into the purpled cat's body. Blaze began grunting in pain, Silver unable to believe that she'd managed to absorb the Flames so easily.

"Hurry, Silver…use your Chaos Control to stop time! Then seal us into a different dimension…it's the only way to stop Iblis! Do it, now!"

"No…I can't…I won't do that to you!"

"Didn't we already go through this? We agreed (grunts) to save the world (grunts) at any price!"

Silver knew that she was right, they'd both agreed that they'd do whatever it took to save the world…but this…the pale Hedgehog couldn't bring himself to banish his best friend to another dimension where he might never see her again.

"I can't…I don't know what I'd ever do without you…you fought alongside me to save the world, to save another world too…you're my best friend in the whole of any world…aren't you?"

"You're still so naïve, Silver…but…I've always liked that about you; I'm sorry, but there's no other way to stop Iblis…good luck, Silver." Blaze said as she disappeared along with Iblis, a portal opening and taking her away from the pale Hedgehog.

As he watched his best friend disappear for what seemed to be forever, the sun appeared in her place and illuminated the ruined buildings around the outside of the canyon…but Silver didn't care about that as he clutched the Chaos Emeralds to his chest and began sobbing loudly, his heart breaking at the fact that he was alone again…but this time, he was alone seemingly for good.

(With Mephiles)

The black and grey-white Hedgehog grasped a black Chaos Emerald with a purple tip, a cruel smile falling onto his face as he imagined all that he could do with such a powerful gem. He decided that now would be a perfect time to test it out, starting with absorbing the limitless power of a dragon as he used it to seek out the only one with such strong energies.

By the time that he was done with her, LunaRose would be nothing more than a dried up shell with nothing left inside of her…not even the tiniest glimmer of love for her daughter.
