Rosewood Police Station
She sat alone waiting for any sign of movement any sign of another human. She was alone feeling her heart race inside her chest feeling her breathe escape her body violently. They would be back soon asking her more questions, accusing her of more crimes as if murder wasn't enough. She heard the door squeak as it opened allowing Holbrooke and Tanner to enter the silent room. Spencer watched as they exchanged hopeful looks before sitting down at the cold metal table.
"Spencer" Holbrooke said kindly as he skimmed through the case file
"I'm not saying anything without my mother here" Spencer replied firmly
"We just want to ask you a few questions there is no need to have your mother present" Tanner explained
"I was raised by two lawyers I know my rights I don't need to answer your questions" Spencer snapped
Tanner shot a glance towards Holbrooke as if to ask what their next move was. She felt like she was in a good place she wouldn't speak until her mom arrived but if she did that would they think she was trying to hide something?
"Your mother will be here shortly" Holbrooke whined before leaving the room with Tanner not far behind him
Marin House
Hanna forced open the bottle chugging the drink desperately hoping it would take away her pain. This method had worked for her before, she would drink until she felt nothing, until everything was hazy and all her problems seemed to fade away.
Flashback
She wasn't popular she wasn't the societies version of pretty she wasn't like her friends she was as Ali called her Hefty Hanna. She didn't know how to make it through school without her friends, she didn't know how she would survive if there wasn't someone looking out for her.
"Hi" a quiet voice greeted
"Hey" Hanna replied quickly wiping her tears from her eyes "What are you doing here Mona?" she asked looking around the empty library
"I come here during lunch every day I don't really have anyone to sit with"
"Me either"
"What about Spencer, Emily and Aria?" Mona questioned taking a seat next to Hanna
"Spencer hangs out with her debate friends more now and Emily is always with her swim team and Aria left a few weeks ago for Iceland. After everything that happened with Alison we don't really talk anymore"
"We could always sit together?" Mona suggested
"Really?" Hanna asked gratefully happy to finally feel accepted again
"Of course" Mona smiled back
Marin House
She took one long sip feeling the cold liquid stream down her throat. Her hands began to shake as the alcohol took over her mind. Hanna felt the bottle slip from her fingers crashing towards the ground scattering glass fragments throughout the kitchen.
"Hanna?" Emily called from upstairs "What was that?"
Hanna stood watching as blood dripped onto the floor from the deep cut on her wrist. Emily rushed to Hanna's side shocked at seeing the amount of blood and worried that this was something Hanna planned to do. Something she might have hoped would help her recover from Mona's death. It was as if when Mona died a part of Hanna also died, there was no way Hanna would ever be able to recover from this traumatic event.
"Hanna" Emily screamed wrapping a cloth around her bloody wrist
"Stop! I don't want your help" Hanna screamed in between her tears "Stop"
Rosewood Community Hospital
"Ms. Marin" A friendly doctor began "Were have to put some stiches into your arm"
She flinched as the doctor began closing her wound holding Emily's hand tightly waiting for the pain to end.
"Ms. Fields" the doctor called after finishing the stitches "A minute please"
Emily followed the doctor away from Hanna listening as she spoke in a whisper.
"Can you please tell me what happened again?"
"I've told you three different times, why again" Emily asked
"I'm concerned about Hanna's emotional state"
"Her emotional state?" Emily repeated obviously confused
"Yes, I was informed that her blood alcohol level was over the legal limit, using that information and the cut to her arm"
"She didn't do it on purpose" Emily cut her off knowing where this conversation was headed
Emily turned as she heard the familiar voice of Ashley Marin.
"Hanna" She quickly sped to her daughter's side "What happened?"
The doctor approached Ashley telling her all that had happened as Emily stood nervously waiting by the nurse's station.
"You okay?" a young nurse asked as she dropped a clipboard on the already cluttered desk
"Fine, it's just my friend" Emily said pointing towards Hanna
"Do you want to talk about it?"
"It's kind of a long story"
"Well lucky you I'm about to go on my lunch break" She smiled linking arms with Emily "Now start talking"
They strolled down the various corridors of the hospital passing hospital room after hospital room that all held different patients different stories.
"She hasn't been the same since Mona died, I understand and I don't expect her to be okay with what happened but I'm worried cause she's trying to deal with it by herself she needs help" Emily explained taking a sip of her hospital coffee
"Don't drink that if you don't like it" She said seeing Emily's disgusted face "If you drink this you may end up as a patient here" she laughed throwing the drink into a nearby garbage can "But that would mean I could spend more time with you, maybe you should have finished it"
"Are you flirting with me?" Emily blushed "You don't even know my name"
"Since when is that a requirement for flirting?" the blonde asked
"Oh, it's not so I guess you don't need to know my name then" Emily crossed her arms over her chest and smirked
"I could guess it!" The nurse suggested
"What do you get if you get it right?" Emily asked
"Your number" she answered quickly
"And if you lose what do I get?"
"My number, it's a win win" She grinned
"Go" Emily said confident that she wouldn't guess correctly
"Let's see" she began "Your friendly, pretty, strong" she said running her hand along Emily's arm "I got it"
Emily shook her head knowing that she wouldn't be right "Let's hear it"
"Emily"
"How did you know?" Emily asked as her eyes widened in shock
The nurse started laughing as she slowly pointed towards Emily's bracelet "It says Emily"
"Cheater!" Emily yelled
"Don't be a sore loser" she laughed passing Emily her phone "Number please"
Emily punched in her number angry that she had been outsmarted "Whatever"
"Oh, is someone upset that they lost" she giggled
"Watch out!" Emily called
It was too late the nurse slipped backwards over the caution sign pulling Emily down with her as they both tumbled onto the wet floor.
"If you wanted to be on top you could have just asked" she joked
Emily's mind was racing, she went from being nervous over Hanna's problems to being on top of a beautiful girl. What would people think if they say them in this position, how would they explain that this wasn't what it looked like?
"So are you going to get off of me anytime soon?" she asked
Realizing that she was still on top of her Emily quickly jumped to her feet "Sorry" she said now embarrassed
"Its fine" she said getting to her feet "If I had a dollar for every time I've tripped over that sign I'd be rich" she checked her watch causing her to moan in annoyance "Lunch break is over, I'll see you around Emily"
"Wait" Emily called "What's your name?"
"Samara, Samara Cook" she called back before disappearing down one of the many hallways
"Samara" Emily said to herself
