Chapter 21: You Drift Into the Night, Hollow Girl

Darling, what's your name and can you hear me?
Tell me why you're out so late alone
The diamonds sparkle in your face, I hold you
The gravel glistens black and red below
Hollow, you drift into the night
Hollow girl
- The Road (Hurts)

Klaus watched Elijah's retreating figure as he left the plantation house, two of their mother's spells in his hand. He was sitting on one of the couches, drumming his fingers on his leg, though every other part of him was motionless as he thought of all that had just happened and everything that was to come.

He'd been surprised to see Elijah, despite Rebekah's forewarning that he was undaggered. Though he was even more surprised to find out exactly what had gone on between Kol, Marcel and this little witch, and of course the sudden alliance that he'd made.

"I'm not sold on the whole idea of an alliance, Elijah, but I can agree that he should take the fight to the witches." Klaus had said, with his typical murderous smile on his face. "We can deal with Marcel later.

"Niklaus, perhaps you should attempt to have goals other than world domination."

"And is that not was annihilating the witches leads too? At least in New Orleans."

"Annihilating the witches is just because they threatened this family. But I suggest you find a different hobby once we've gotten rid of them."

"It's kind of crazy, isn't it Nik?" Rebekah sat down on the couch beside Klaus. Her face was emotionless, but her words wavered just a little.

"To what part of all this are you referring too?"

"To think that if this all goes to plan, we'll have our brother back." There was a hint of moisture on her eyes that she wiped away before the teas were able to fully form. "I regret it so much, you know. How I treated Kol when he came back from the Other Side. I rejected him for the sake of some stupid little baby vampires and humans." She swallowed. "I should have sought him out before Bonnie put the veil back up..."

"He probably would have attacked you." Klaus chuckled a little.

"What?" She asked, confused.

Klaus smiled a little bit as he went to elaborate. "He punched me when he saw me. And then a minute later, he was baring his soul to me about all this business with the French Quarter witches, and Davina."

"I knew he had secrets, our brother, but I didn't know they'd be so connected to all of this." Had they not been however, Rebekah didn't imagine that they would be bringing him back to life right not. Not because they didn't care for each other, but because none of them had dared to let themselves hope that there would be a witch with the right amount of power who would be willing to aid them.

"This girl, what is she like?" Klaus asked, trying to compare the image he had of his brother up against a young witch, trying to find the appeal.

Rebekah frowned. "I don't really know. She spoke to me for two seconds before magically expelling me from the church attic." She grimaced a little at the memory before suddenly grinning like a maniac. "Oh, actually on second thought, she's just as charming as our brother."

Davina was playing with the small flame of a candle while waiting for Elijah to arrive. Marcel had resorted to pacing. She felt a little bad about how readily she'd agreed to Elijah's proposition, before even thinking much about what he would want, but even Marcel had agreed that it was time to take care of the witches once and for all. They were causing too much trouble for him, or they were planning on it anyway, and neither of them wanted her to die. Then there was the fact that he wanted Kol back to, since they were friends.

"Davina?" She looked up from the fire, greeting Elijah with a smile. "Come in."

The Original crossed through the doorway and into the attic, giving way to the person behind him that neither Davina, nor Marcel had noticed.

"Klaus?" Marcel looked more than alert in the space of a split second. "I didn't realize you were coming to meet with us." The glare that he shot in Elijah's direction was badly concealed.

"My brother merely wants to meet the witch that he's trusting to unlink Hayley from Sophie Deveraux." Elijah had explained the spell to Marcel over the phone, who had in turn told Davina what she needed to do for the Originals. "And he's as much Kol's brother as I am."

Davina glanced at the Hybrid. The part about being Kol's brother was almost slightly untrue. She knew everything about him. His heritage, the fact that he was only a half sibling to his brothers and sister and that he was practically insane. And apparently somehow about to be a father to a child.

"Why don't you invite me in, love?"

"Nah, we can see you just fine from here." Marcel replied before Davina could say a word. She didn't protest. In fact, she hadn't been planning on inviting Klaus inside in the first place. Elijah, with his back turned to his brother, actually chuckled a little before he stepped forward and handed Davina a piece of paper that he'd had wrapped in plastic.

"This is the unlinking spell that we need you to perform." He explained as she placed it down on the bed, taking in the intricate details that their mother had inked onto the yellowed page.

"It seems simple enough." She muttered, her eyes scanning over everything before looking back up at the three vampires. "But, when I unlink them, both of them are going to feel it. Sophie will know straight away when the bond is broken." She felt that was pretty important to be said. From what she'd been told, the witches had been using the link to threaten the babies life and keep the Originals on their side. Things wouldn't bode well if they knew that their leverage would be gone. If they wanted a war with the witches, it would probably start right away.

"I don't believe that should be a problem." Elijah replied after a moment of deliberation and a glance at his younger brother. "Sophie isn't actively hiding from us, nor does she fear us, because we have an alliance. It shouldn't be hard to orchestrate something that can keep her... occupied for the duration of the night as we won't have trouble getting close to her."

"What are you going to do with her?" Marcel asked.

"I understand the drive that comes when someone close to you dies, and you have even the smallest hope and possibility to bring them back." Elijah said, making the briefest eye contact with Davina for a second. "But, threatening another's family - my family - for that cause is something I can not forgive. Let's just leave it at, shall we?"

Marcel didn't look entirely satisfied with that answer but Davina cared little for the fate of Sophie Deveraux. She'd been the driving force behind the failed harvest, and perhaps she owed some part of her life to Monique's Aunt, but she wasn't going to let the woman be the death of her because of it.

"The spell is bound to the moon, so we need have this done at night. If we do both of the spells tomorrow night, that gives you time to familiarize yourself with them." Klaus leaned against the wall, still have to look in from afar.

"Then we can do it at the compound. Nighttime, all my night walkers will be out and I'll keep the place deserted. Nothing will be different in the Quarter, so there shouldn't be any reason for the witches to act out." Marcel said. "I'll make sure Davina gets there safely, and as long as she stays with me, they won't be able to try anything even if they do catch a glimpse of her."

"You know I'm capable of protecting myself, Marcel."

The vampire that had taken her in and kept her safe looked down at her. "I know, D. But you can't blame me for wanting to be the one to protect you."

She didn't. In fact she loved him for it.

"The compound will do just fine. It's the only place that we can guarantee the witches don't have eyes and ears that could cause a problem." Elijah replied, diverting the conversation back to the main order of business.

"Now that that's settled, what about Kol then?" Davina asked, glancing between the archaic viking unlinking spell and back to Elijah. He gave her a brief smile before holding out a second page that was just as tattered and old as the first.

"It's a spell for making a connection to the dead." He explained as she placed it down on top of the first spell, running her fingers over the words and illustrations. There was something unnerving about every page from this witches' book. Davina could almost feel the magic of the woman in the ink and touching the pages made the tips of her fingers numb. There was no doubt that this witch had been powerful beyond anything she or her coven could ever imagine.

"Witches can make connections to their dead simply with magic, but for ghosts not of their kind, you need to channel some kind of object." Elijah said, unaware of the turn Davina's thoughts had taken, and she quickly looked back up at him. "The spell can be modified to restore someone back to life by also drawing power from their connections to the living as well."

"The living would be you, Rebekah and Klaus, right?"

"You're right about that, love." Klaus replied from outside the room, a smirk on his face.

"Yes, that's correct." Elijah ignored Niklaus for the most part. "And the object that you can channel to establish the connection is the White Oak Stake in our possession. It was the weapon used to kill Kol and his sire line, and thus, there is a strength in the connection to him that you wouldn't even find in a personal object."

"When you've unlinked Hayley from Sophie Deveraux, I'll hand over the stake." Klaus interjected, pacing a little in front of the invisible barrier that separated him from everyone else, feeling confined in the small hallway. Of course, the attic wasn't much better.

"And then, after tomorrow night, everything will be as it should be." Elijah finished in words much gentler than Klaus' faux-friendly tone. While Klaus was always going to be a concern to their cause, he knew that his brother wouldn't do anything to upset this alliance until the two spells had been performed, and that he would at least remain stable until then.

"I'll look over both of the spells before tomorrow." Davina replied, folding them together and placing them on her dresser before turning back to the entourage of vampires that were all watching her with careful expressions. "They're both a little complex, but with the right power I shouldn't have any trouble." That, and she wasn't going to let herself fail.

"I believe they're well within your capabilities." Elijah smiled, meeting Davina's eyes until a small smile rose on her face too. He then took a step back out of the attic and to his brother. "Thank you, Davina." He added in way of a goodbye before both he and Klaus made their way down the rickety stairs and into the church.

"Seems your plan is all going as you wanted, brother." Klaus pointed out, his walk a fraction faster than Elijah's, always remaining a step ahead of his brother. "So, that girl. It's strange for Kol to even have an interest in anyone, but she's even stranger."

"On the contrary, Niklaus. If you think about it, they're quite perfect for each other from what I've seen. Davina is both powerful and a childish, with an unexpected level of depth when she situation calls for it." Elijah breathed as they stepped out into the French Quarter street. This was something he'd mused over too ever since Davina had explained everything to him. "If you think about it that way, she's eerily similar to our younger brother."
