Peridot looks at 4XG, who is commanding some other peridots. The gemling thinks the other gem is amazing. It is Peridot's first assignment as a peridot and she is really excited for it. When she met all the other peridots, it was a wonderful moment. They were all like her, well, almost like her, all era two, but like her. They had the same ways of having fun and the others wanted to know every single detail about her kindergarten. Peridot was glad that 4XG gave her some lessons about the kindergartens, her supervisor told her she would learn the rest of the details with time on the job, but Peridot needed the basics to have a conversation with her coworkers.
"Right you all!" 4XG shouts. "We have work to do. Cut one!" She looks at a group of peridots. "You were assigned to one of Yellow Diamond's colonies. You have to check up on the kindergarten from planet 12." She dismisses them. "Cut two! You will go to the trial room and fix Yellow Diamond's throne. She will shatter all of us if it doesn't work properly in the next trial! The settings are wrong, do something about it, if you don't want to be shattered." The group two runs towards the nearest warp-pad. "Cut three! You will be fixing the tracking robots. There are too many off-colors running around and the diamonds want to do something about them. Cut five!" She looks at Peridot's group, which is the smaller one. "You will be monitoring the geo-weapon."
"The geo-weapon?" Peridot thinks and looks at 4XG, who gives her a look to move on and that is what she does. Peridot goes with the others towards another room. Once she gets there, she is fascinated by the amount of things inside the place. Hundreds of files, with a thing Peridot loves a lot, information! Her eyes turn into stars and she smiles.
"Hey, you there!" Another peridot calls the heir. "Are you gonna read those or you will just keep staring at them?" She says angry. "We have to study all the aspects and see how the Cluster is doing or Yellow Diamond will have our gems."
"The cluster?" Peridot says, slowly.
"Were you born yesterday? Yes! The geo-weapon we need to check." The other peridot crosses her arms. "Are you really a peridot?"
"Of course I am!" Peridot crosses her arms.
"So act like it!" The other peridot looks at her screen and starts to work.
"I'm doing it!" She mumbles.
"What?" The other one asks.
"Nothing." Peridot says, opening her screen and one of the files. It was a report made on Earth, when the Cluster was made.
"Hey." Someone touches Dot's shoulder.
"Yes?!" She jumps, surprised.
"Calm down. It's me." It was 4XG, who came to see Peridot.
"Hey. Lefty!" Peridot smiles, when she notices that it's just her supervisor.
"Don't call me like that when we are at work!" Lefty hits Peridot's head, softly.
"Ouch! You didn't have to do that." She says, caressing her own head.
"Yes, I had to do it." Lefty smiles. "Anyway." She takes a deep breath. "How are you doing?"
"I'm doing great!" The heir forces a smile.
"I don't believe you." 4XG crosses her arms.
"Okay…" She closes her eyes. "I'm a little bit lost because..." She lowers her voice. "Because no one ever told me about this thing called Cluster!"
"I see." 4XG smiles.
"Why are you smiling?" Peridot asks, angry.
"Because you forget about things so quickly." She touches Peridot's shoulder. "What did I tell you that you should do when you don't know something?"
"Do a research." Peridot looks at the floor. "That is what I'm doing!"
"So, you will be fine." 4XG looks at the other peridots working. "You know, you will be working on the Cluster for a few rotations from now on. There will come a time when we will make a selection."
"Selection?" Peridot asks, confused.
"Yes. We will select a peridot from this group to be the permanent supervisor of The Cluster." 4XG explains.
"But why just this group?"
"Because this group has the best of the best." 4XG smiles.
"So, I'm not supposed to be here." The heir crosses her arms.
"Of course you are. You are one of the best peridots that I ever met."
"Why?"
"Because you have something that no other has." 4XG smiles. "The will to improve, so you can prove to a family that you are capable of being what you were born to be."
"Do you think that?" Peridot asks with stars on the eyes.
"Yes. Why would I tell such a thing if I didn't mean it?" 4XG looks at Peridot. "Don't give me that look! I'm the supervisor. The others will think that I'm getting soft."
"Okay!" Peridot smiles and opens her screen. "Yell something to me like 'Go back to work!'." Peridot whispers.
"Go back to work!" 4XG yells and points at the heir.
"Right, ma'am!" She sits on a chair and looks at her screen.
Lefty walks towards the exit, but, before leaving, she smiles a little bit. She is relieved to know Peridot Diamond is doing okay. She has to report to the diamonds the progress of the heir.
Inside the throne room, far away from where Peridot is, the rulers decided to take a break from their meeting. All of them are worried about Peridot's first day.
Blue is sit next to Yellow, while White is looking through the window.
"Yellow?" Blue calls her old friend.
"Yes?" Yellow looks at her.
"Do you really think this is a good idea?"
"What are you exactly talking about? The way to find resources?" Yellow looks at her.
"No. I'm talking about Peridot. Do you think she will be okay?" Blue asks, worried.
"You care too much about her. You asked me this a thousand times just this morning." Yellow closes her eyes. "Yes, Blue, she will be fine. I put one of the best peridots to teach her. Everything will be okay." Yellow smiles.
"So you are saying." White says.
"We already talked about this. You don't say a word, White." Yellow says.
He walks towards his throne and crosses his arms, making Yellow roll her eyes.
Blue looks at them and places her hand on her cheek. "You two are unbelievable. You can't even get to an agreement about your own daughter."
"She makes the decisions by her own. She never asks me." White says.
"That is because you have done enough damage already!" Yellow looks at him.
"Hey! Both of you! I'm not here to solve your relationship." Blue says, trying to avoid the conversation they were about to start. "Today is her first assignment, right? You can ask how she did and see what you are gonna do next."
"That is a wonderful idea. Thanks, Blue." White looks at Yellow.
"I know she will be great!" Yellow says and they stay in silence for a while.
"But, you know, if she will be a normal peridot, we will need to use the thing." White says.
"What thing?" Blue looks at Yellow, who takes a deep breath.
"Peridot can be a peridot, but she has diamond's genes. This genes will make her grow up and be taller than the others. She will stand out if she gets taller. However, White has the solution." She looks at Blue. "He has the hormones that are put in the kindergarten's injectors to control how much taller a gem will be."
"We plan to inject those inside Peridot's gem." White explains.
"Is that safe?" Blue asks, worried.
"I don't know. It is not like we had a situation like this before." Yellow says with sarcasm. "We don't know how that is gonna affect her powers."
"Powers?" Blue and White ask together.
"Oh, yes. You don't know." Yellow looks at them. "Well, when Peridot was a child, I did a lot of research on her because I wanted to know everything about her abilities. The only ones who know about this are her supervisor and myself."
"What powers does she have?" White asks.
"She doesn't have the same powers of a normal peridot. The others have the power to build anything they want, even if it is something that no one has invented before. Peridot doesn't have that power, she has something different inside her." Yellow smiles. "Metal powers."
"Metal powers?!" White says, surprised.
"I've never seen a power like that. Not even among the gems in my court." Blue tells Yellow.
"I know. I was surprised too." Yellow smiles. "She is special, but she can lose that." She looks at her feet. "It's a risk, but if she thinks she will be fine as peridot, I will let her be what she wants until the day she becomes green diamond."
"You are warming your heart, Yellow." Blue smiles.
"Only for Peridot." White says, joking.
"Of course. She is my daughter and not some old man trying to conquer my heart." Yellow crosses her arms and, at the same time, someone knocks the door.
"Who could that be?" Yellow asks the others.
"Maybe it's Peridot." Blue answers, while Yellow looks at her pearl, who instantly goes to open the door.
"It can't be. It's not the end of her work yet." White says, when the door is opened.
The three of them get surprised to see a peridot standing in front of the entrance. It is not their peridot, but it's her supervisor.
"My diamonds." 4XG makes the diamond salute.
"Yes?" Yellow asks her.
"I am here to deliver a report." 4XG opens her screen.
"Do it." YD looks at the peridot.
"So…" 4XG starts, but she is interrupted before she could continue.
"Is it about Peridot Diamond?" Blue asks.
"Yes, my diamond." 4XG looks at Blue. "It is." She smiles. "I want to report the progress of 5XG. She has been doing great, she learned everything really quick, she is not suspicious at all and she is doing the best she can to fit."
"Please, continue." White says.
"Yes. Well, she is working on the Cluster. She has potential to be the permanent supervisor of it as well. 5XG has a will that I've never seen in any other peridot before. I can also say that she is happy." 4XG smiles.
"That is a good thing." Blue says, looking at Yellow and White.
"Yes, it is." Yellow gives a soft smile to Blue.
"That will be all." White claps his hands, making 4XG leave.
"My diamonds." Lefty makes the salute and leaves.
When the door is closed, Yellow stands up.
"Well, it seems that Peridot will want to be a peridot." She looks at White and smiles.
"I can't argue against a fact." White says, embarrassed.
"You two will finally get to an agreement! Thanks the stars!" Blue stands up and hugs Yellow. "I was tired of that conversation."
"What did I tell you about hugs?" Yellow says, getting away from Blue. "It's annoying. Don't do that again."
"Sorry. I just forgot that you were using that "Hard Yellow Diamond" mask of yours." Blue laughs.
"Stop that." Yellow looks at Blue.
"You are blushing, my dear." White giggles.
"Shut up!" Yellow crosses her arms.
Blue goes back to her throne. "So, are you gonna tell her or wait until she asks for it?"
"We should just tell her. It will avoid conflicts." White answers Blue and Yellow nods in agreement.
"Nice work you two." Blue compliments them. "Now, why don't we come back to our meeting. I have a few ideas that don't involve activating old colonies."
"Why didn't you tell us sooner?" White looks at Blue.
"I wanted Yellow to have her moment." Blue giggles.
"Of course. Why not?" Yellow says with sarcasm, crossing her arms.
"Don't be like that, Yellow. I know you are used to rule everything by yourself, so, I wanted to leave you with a few minutes of success." Blue says with a little bit of sadness on her voice, after listening to some of Yellow Diamond's complains, Blue start to explain her ideas.
Days pass by and everyone is still busy around Homeworld, the diamonds seem to never get to an agreement and their pearls don't even know how many reports they wrote about that meeting, there were many in the archives. All the trials were postponed. The visits to their own colonies were cancelled and meetings with their courts were not going to happen.
A time comes when Blue Diamond just stands up and sits in front of the big window inside the throne room. Yellow and White look at each other, concerned. They are all tired, but they didn't think how the long meeting would affect Blue.
Yellow looks at Blue, without standing up from her throne. "Blue?"
"I am fine." It is the only thing the diamond answers.
"Are you sure?" White asks.
"I am just tired. We have been talking about this for the stars know how much time and we still can't find a way to fix the problem with the resources." She hugs her legs and hides her face between her knees and her chest. "If Pink was here, she would know what to do in a situation like this."
Yellow takes a deep breath and walks towards Blue, sitting next to her. "We will find a way out of this." Yellow places her hand on Blue's back. "Let's get out of here. It is almost time for Peridot to come back. Why don't we wait for her inside her room?"
Blue Diamond looks at Yellow.
"We had a long week and I bet she has a lot of things she wants to tell all of us about. Maybe she will tell us about the Cluster."
"Well, she always cheers me up. Why not?" Blue stands up with the help of Yellow.
"Well, are you coming?" Yellow looks at White.
"You don't need to call me twice." White stands up and walks towards the door with Blue and Yellow behind him.
When the diamonds leave, there are still two gems in the room, who are glad to be forgotten there.
Blue and Yellow Pearl look at each other, a few seconds later, they just lie on the ground, taking a deep breath.
"I thought it would never be over!" Yellow closes her eyes.
"So did I." Blue places her arm on her eyes. "It is a difficult task to come up with a new way to find resources." Blue looks at Yellow. "Do you have any ideas?"
"ME?!" Yellow Pearl looks at her, shocked. "Why do you think that I have an idea?"
"Just a thought." Blue smiles and sits. "Why don't we go downstairs and get some rest before being requested again?"
"It is a nice idea." Yellow stands up and walks towards Blue. "But, aren't you gonna check how your diamond is doing? She looked really upset."
"Even if I wanted, my diamond won't talk about what she is thinking. She doesn't need to say it out loud, we all know what's going on with her. Yellow Diamond is doing a great helping my diamond."
"My diamond is the best." Yellow says, proud of herself.
"I didn't say that." Blue stands up and looks at Yellow. "Blue Diamond will always be the best." She walks towards the exit door.
"Both of them are." Yellow hugs Blue from the back.
"What are you doing?" Blue giggles.
"Ending this topic. Why don't we just go downstairs and take a rest? Let's forget about the diamonds for an hour or two."
"It sounds great." Blue smiles.
"Yes it does." Yellow holds Blue's hand and opens the door.
When they are outside the room, they find themselves in the presence of two agates. Blue look at Yellow and soon let her hand go.
Blue look at the floor and Yellow at the two other gems, who are from the yellow court.
"She is not here anymore. Why are you still here?" Yellow Pearl raises an eyebrow. "Go back to your station or I will report you to my diamond." She opens a screen in front of her.
The agates look at each other and leave the place.
"You didn't need to do that."
"My diamond allows me to act like that. Some elite gems don't listen to me because I'm a pearl, which is a problem because I'm the one who gives other gems my diamond's orders. What you just saw is my secret weapon."
"You like to play the boss, don't you?"
"Just when I am allowed to." Yellow smiles and holds Blue's hand again. "Let's go."
"Yellow! We can't walk around holding hands. What if someone finds us?"
"Well, we will think about it once we get there." Yellow runs with Blue right behind her.
"You are unbelievable. One day you are freaking out and in the other you are breaking the rules." Blue giggles.
"That is me." Yellow stops and hugs Blue Pearl.
"Yellow?"
"What?"
"I love you." Blue kisses her cheek.
"I love you too." Yellow kisses her forehead.
"I wish we could stay like this forever." Blue hugs Yellow back.
"Me too." Yellow places her chin on Blue's head.
While the pearls sneak their way to their room, the diamonds get to Peridot's chamber.
Blue Diamond sits on Peridot's bed, next to Yellow and White stays next to the door.
"She is not here yet." Yellow looks around.
"We shouldn't be here." Blue makes her mantle disappear.
"Yellow and I are her parents. There is nothing here we haven't seen before."
"I mean that I shouldn't be here." Blue stands up. "I need to go." She walks towards the door, but White stops her.
"What is happening?" White asks her.
"Nothing is going on." Blue crosses her arms.
"Yellow?" White looks at the other diamond.
"Let her go." Yellow closes her eyes.
"Thank you." Blue Diamond looks at White who gets out of her way. She leaves and walks towards her chamber.
"Why did you let her go?"
"We need to give her some space. I brought her here to see Peridot, but, since she is not here, I can't force her to stay." Yellow stands up. "It was a long meeting. Why don't we talk to Peridot some other time? The two of us."
"Maybe we should give her some more time to get used to the job." White opens the door.
Yellow takes a deep breath. "Yes." She walks out of the room.
"Yellow?" White follows her.
"What?" She looks at him.
"How are you?" He looks into her eyes.
"I'm fine."
They keep looking each other.
"Where are you going now?" Yellow asks, looking at the door.
"To my chamber, how about you?" White smiles.
"Same."
White raises an eyebrow, making Yellow blush.
"I mean that I am going to my chamber." She looks away from him.
"I know." He smiles. "Let me accompany you."
"You don't have to do that. We are just a few steps away from it."
"I insist."
"You won't give up, will you?" Yellow gives her arm to him.
"I'm worried about you." He places her arm around his own.
"I see." They walk towards Yellow's chamber.
They don't speak while walking. The two of them are fine to just feel the presence of each other. It is not possible to say that they are totally comfortable or that she feels totally safe around him, but they accept the moment.
When they get to the door, White leaves Yellow to go.
"Here we are." Yellow looks at him.
"Indeed." White looks at the door.
"Well, thank you." She opens her door.
"See you later?" He smiles.
"Yes. We still have to talk to Peridot. We haven't seen her for a few days."
"You are right…" He looks around for a while.
"What?" She raises an eyebrow and crosses her arms.
"Nothing. I just thought… Well, forget about it. We need to get some rest." He holds Yellow's hand and kisses the top of it. "You know where to find me."
"Sure." She removes his hands from hers and holds it next to her chest, making a confused face.
White walks away, towards his chamber, next to where it used to be Pink's.
On the other day Yellow and White find Peridot and decide to tell her about the hormones they were planning to inject in her gem. They explained to her the risks and how they didn't know how it would affect her, but the gemling didn't think twice, she said "yes" at her first chance. Things between White Diamond and Peridot were still unstable, but she lets him inject the hormones into her gem.
The gemling stayed dormant for a couple of rotations, what made the diamonds worried. Yellow Diamond went to check Peridot every day and Yellow Pearl accompanied her diamond, updating Blue Pearl whenever it was possible. Yellow Pearl and Blue Pearl didn't see each other that much during the moment Peridot stayed dormant. Yellow was always with her diamond inside Peridot's room and Blue was with her diamond, who was staying a lot inside her own room lately. The thought of Peridot staying dormant forever made Blue Diamond think a lot about her own daughter and former lover. A lot of gems decided to stay away from Blue or they would start crying without wanting to.
The day Peridot woke up, it was like finding a new colony for the diamonds. Peridot never received so many hugs in just one day. Even White dared to hug her, receiving an angry face from the gemling.
Yellow decided to run a series of test on Peridot to see if everything else was fine. Like they expected, there were changes. Peridot would grow up just a few more centimeters and then stop forever. Her powers were gone and she needed to adjust her visors to be able to see, she couldn't stay without them anymore or else she got totally blind.
Peridot was fine with all of that, she never used her power to do anything important and, now, she would be a complete era two, powerless.
Yellow Diamond thought it was a shame to see such a power fade away like that, however, if Peridot was okay with it, she would be as well.
After a few days to adjust to her new life, Peridot comes back to her work and 4XG is glad to see her again, full of energy and enthusiasm. The supervisor even allows the heir to start going to the kindergartens. Peridot enjoys getting to know new colonies and meeting new gems everyday. It is a dream coming true. Every time she gets out of Homeworld, it feels like her destiny could change forever.
And one of those trips would be the one to change her life indeed.

Well, I have something to say about this one and all of my stories: I am going to finish all of them!
I am not leaving my work behind, ever. I am just really slow at getting the ideas right and I also I changed some of my plans on this story, I mean, come on, how many years I have been on this fanfiction, right? Things change.
Well, I have not being doing nothing while I was gone. I was rewatching the show, rewritting and correcting grammar mistakes I could find along the way of my fanfictions and getting new ideas. There is a lot of things going on with my stories, just you wait to see it.
On chapter 17 there is a "bonus" scene I wrote (It is with Blue, Yellow and Pink Pearl)
I draw the new cover by the way. It is not that good, but I enjoyed drawing it hehe (The New Gems With A New Life 1 and 2 are getting new covers too and my Emerald OC will be there)
