Hello there! I think this is the longest span between chapters I've had. Only a week, so it's not that bad! haha I feel the need to remind everyone that there are no storylines in this story, past, present, or future. Everything that happened/ is happening is real, which includes all the mayhem between Undertaker, Paul Bearer and Kane, was all real! Now that that's stated, I want to thank Tori Moxley, NESSAANCALIME6913, Ubersassynova, wwemicky, Wolfgirl2013, Calwitch, The Simonette254, UntilNeverDawns, ChelleLew, LeaMarie F. Metallium, flowersNfreaks, ShikyoKiri, Shield316 and bella315! Thank you all :)
Disclaimer: I own nothing but Scarlett, no lyrics, nothing recognizable. Nothing! I swear!
Scanning her eyes over the many room numbers she passed by, Scarlett moved farther down the hall as she looked for a certain one, fiddling her fingers together as she did so. She didn't understand what was making her so nervous the closer and closer she got to the room she needed. It wasn't like she was heading off to greet the Undertaker at the gates of hell, she was heading to a hotel room to speak with her father. The man that raised her basically by himself on the road, even through her wonderful teenage years. She was going to see Mark Calaway, not the Phenom that everybody else knew.
Once she found the correct door she paused in front of it to take a deep breath, calming her nerves before she lifted her hand up and knocked. It only took a few seconds before she heard heavy footsteps inside the room coming towards her and then the door was pulled open.
"Hi there, Angel." He greeted her with a smile, moving aside so she could enter the room. Scarlett smiled back as she walked inside, noticing his smile falter once he saw what she was wearing.
"Hi daddy." She responded, ignoring his looks by going in for a hug instead once the door had been shut. It was only when she hugged her father that she realized how large he actually was. Standing at 6'10", he towered over her 5'5" frame.
Pulling away from the hug a few moments later, she chuckled at the thought of what Tori would look like standing next to him considering she was even shorter than Scarlett was. As she glanced around the room, it was then that she realized they weren't alone.
"Hey uncle Glenn." She announced as she made her way over to the couch he sat on. Taking a seat in the chair across from him, she watched him nod his head as a greeting to her. "Hello Scarlett."
"So you've called Glenn here, where's Michelle?" She questioned as her father sat beside his half brother on the couch. She was now speaking of her step-mother; Michelle McCool. Despite having not liked her as a wrestler, and the fact that Scarlett herself was only 10 years younger than the woman, Scarlett found Michelle made her father happy. That's all that really mattered. Not age, or time. If Michelle made her father happy, then she's happy for them.
"She elected to stay home with Kaia, but we're not here to talk about Michelle. We're here to talk about you." He stated, causing Scarlett to purse her lips as she nodded her head.
"Okay, well how about we start with you outing my secret to the entire world?" She fired back as she leaned back into the chair, crossing her arms over her chest. She arched an eyebrow when both her father and her uncle sighed at her statement.
"I explained that on the phone, those boys-" He began, but found himself being cut off.
"Those boys helped me that night Brock Lesnar F5ed me. Roman tried to stop him, Dean didn't want me to leave his sight, and Seth.." She paused for a moment, trying to remember if Seth had done anything. Finding herself at a loss she shook her head before continuing on. "It doesn't matter. Those boys are good men who you two have no worries about." She defended, however she furrowed her eyebrows when Glenn shook his head.
"In case you don't remember, I ran down to the ring that night as well, along with some other superstars. When I got in the ring to see if you were okay, Ambrose, Rollins, and your little friend ran down and Ambrose wouldn't let anyone touch you. Not even the doctors, and you're defending that?" He tried to reason but Scarlett merely shrugged her shoulders.
"He wanted to make sure I was alright." She answered but Glenn fired back just as quickly.
"That's what the doctors are for, not Dean Ambrose."
"I thought you said you'd be fine if I joined them? Isn't that what you said on the phone before?" She asked, raising her eyebrows in question at him.
"I did say that, but I said for protection. If he's going to be that senseless when you need medical treatment-"
"Senseless? If they're so senseless how come I made it to the doctor that night? How come I was taken care of that night when neither one of you bothered to show your faces afterwards to see if I was okay?" She bit back, sitting up in her seat to look them dead in the eye. "Fuck, even Phil flew like, 4 hours to LA when he saw what happened, from Chicago I might add. He wasn't anywhere near the arena or hotel that I was in, and yet you," She said now focusing her attention solely onto her uncle. "were in the same arena, and yes you came down to the ring, but you were in the same hotel, couldn't come see for yourself if I was dead or not?"
"Scarlett.." She heard her father's warning tone, but her attention wasn't on him as Glenn shook his head and let out a sarcastic chuckle.
"Even him quitting couldn't keep you away from him, huh?" He questioned completely ignoring everything else she said, which didn't make for a happy Scarlett. Not that she was happy at this very second anyway.
"I know how you feel about him, and I really don't care to hear it again." She sighed, slouching back in her chair once more as she rubbed her index and middle fingers over the bridge of her nose and closed her eyes, a sure sign of the annoyance she was feeling inside. Glenn of course had been one of the many family member's to call her the night she and Phil declared they were 'dating', and to say he wasn't happy about it, was an understatement.
She heard him start speaking again, but paid no attention as she felt her phone vibrate in the pocket of her sweater. Hauling it out, she felt her eyes widen slightly as they read New Message from: Ambrose on her screen. Quickly unlocking her phone, she tapped on the message to open it which only made her heart accelerate as she read it.
'Get your ass back here Princess. We need to talk.' (Tues 9:46am)
"Are you even listening to me?" She heard her Uncle's voice through her thoughts, causing her to physically jump. She locked her phone once more, ignoring the message for now as she looked up at him again, her eyes narrowing as she did so.
"No, but let me guess. CM Punk is some delinquent that I have no business dating, or I have no business being around, correct?" She questioned rhetorically, so she didn't give him time to answer before she continued. "However, I do not care what you think. As I told Hunter it's my business with whom I date or not, not theirs and not yours."
"Okay, woah. Stop arguing." Mark lifted his palms up, cutting in just as Glenn was about to speak again. "We're getting nowhere like this, start from the beginning of all this. I want to know everything that's happened since you debuted."
So she told them. She told them about how she saw when the New Age Outlaws left Phil to be demolished by the Shield, ending in a triple powerbomb and how it reminded her so much of what they had done to her father. She told them about convincing Tori to wear Punk's sweaters to show the Shield whose side they were on. About how Hunter had pulled her in his office to talk about some rumors that were flying around about her and Punk dating, telling her that it wasn't 'Best for Business' for her to be seen with him and could ruin her career. So she stood up to him, proving that no one can tell Scarlett Payne what to do.
Then there were the messages on the titantron; We Want You, You'll Join Us Soon Enough, and finally We'll Shield You From Harm at the Royal Rumble after she and Tori had won their titles. She told them how she had screamed at Roman that she hated him and everything to do with the Shield, her reasoning for them doing what they did to her father. How she'd tried to block the Shield from her mind, but it was just so hard.
As she explained everything to them, she didn't miss the 2 vibrations her cell phone gave off as she spoke, but she ignored them. Plain and simple. She'd pay for it later.
"Okay.. there's a couple of points I want to touch on but I need to know something first." Mark was the first to speak once Scarlett had finished explaining. "Last night, if I hadn't interrupted, after everything you just said, what was your answer going to be about joining the Shield?"
For the first time in 10 minutes she glanced away from the men sitting across from her. Her eyes now focused on her phone in her hands, she managed to mumble out a weak answer. "My answer for them last night was yes."
"Was this solely based on your decision, or was it an equal part for your friend too?" Her father asked after he'd let out a disappointed sigh.
"It was both of our decisions, we think that we would do good joining them." 'And get to work with the men that we like.' She mentally added in afterwards. Did she really think it'd do her good to join them? Yes, but the thought of spending time with Roman and Dean on the road, and even getting to know Seth better, brought a tiny smile to her face.
"And the added bonus of protection is good." Glenn added in but Scarlett ignored him. Mark seemed to ignore him as well as he then switched subjects, this time about Phil.
"And Punk? Why were you so keen on helping prove your point with him when he's done as much damage, if not more, to our family?" He asked and Scarlett found herself needing to think about her answer.
Phil had done a lot of damage to their family, her father was right. In the previous year, Phil had been the one to challenge the Undertaker's undefeated streak at Wrestlemania. What was worse, he'd even stolen the urn that was so precious to them. He'd stolen Paul Bearer's urn, and poured his ashes all over her father one night, but yet, she had no troubles pulling on a CM Punk sweater and bearing to the WWE Universe that she was his girlfriend. Then actually sleeping with the man behind closed doors, but she'd hated the Shield who slammed her father through an announce table.
"I honestly don't know.." She answered, looking back up at her father. "Maybe cause he was the first one to be nice to me besides Tori? He found out the secret before everyone else, before last night." Seeing Glenn open his mouth to say something, she cut him off. "I didn't tell him, he found out because he was at my apartment after I hurt my ribs at Royal Rumble. He came to see if I was okay after he quit the WWE."
"That was nice of him." Her father responded and Scarlett smiled a little again as she nodded her head. "But defying the Authority.. Scarlett, you know they could've easily fired you, right?"
"I kind of wish they had, instead of putting me in a mixed tag team match with Brock Lesnar." She sighed, watching as her father tensed at her words. His eyes getting more stern.
"Don't worry about him Angel, I'll make him pay for what he's done. I told you that already and I haven't forgotten." He stated in a tone that Scarlett knew not to argue. "But back to the Authority, you have to be careful with them. All of them."
Scarlett opened her mouth to answer, but instead was cut off by the vibration of her cell phone along with a ringtone that blared through the room.
"Bow down to the, Bow down to the King!
Bow down to the, Bow down to the King!"
"Speak of the devil." Scarlett whispered to herself as she stood up. She held up one finger before she ran in the bathroom and shut the door behind her. She then tapped the green 'answer' button before raising the phone to her ear. "Hello?"
"Hello Scarlett, it's about time you answer your phone." Hunter responded to her. "While you are not required to be at the Smackdown taping tonight, Stephanie and I would like for you and Tori to come to the arena so we may speak with you both."
"About what?" She questioned. While being called into your bosses office was never good, being called to your bosses office when you're not scheduled to be at work must be even worse.
"We will discuss that once you arrive. We'd like to talk to you before the taping begins so if you could be here at 4 that'd be great." He answered. Scarlett pulled the phone away from her ear to check the time it was now, 10:22 am, she then agreed and he informed her of where they would be and then hung up. Before she made her way back out to her father and uncle she checked the 2 messages she had received earlier. One had been from Hunter, demanding she call him once she received his message. Apparently he was just a little bit impatient today. When she opened the second message, she nibbled on her bottom lip as she read it, feeling the anxiety flood into her chest.
'I could easily forget about what I asked you and just hop a flight home to Vegas without hearing anything you have to say. Are you coming or not?' (Tues 10:09am)
Scarlett tried to ignore the way her heart panged in her chest at the thought of him giving up on her. If last night and this morning were any indication of what she felt for these 2 men, she already knew the answer she wanted to give them.
Tapping the respond button, she quickly typed 'Please don't leave.. I'm almost done here then I'll be back down to talk with you.' she then hit 'send' and made sure it sent before she made her way back out into the main room.
"What'd he want?" Her father questioned as she reappeared in front of them, however she didn't sit on the chair this time, taking to stand next to it instead.
"He wants me and Tori to go to Colorado Springs to talk to him and Steph before the taping tonight." She answered as she tucked her hands in her pockets to keep from fidgeting with them.
"Do you wrestle tonight?" He asked and Scarlett shook her head. "He said I'm not really needed at the taping but they want to talk to.. uh, th-they want me and Tori to be there to talk to us." She answered, stuttering when she felt her phone buzz in her pocket against her hand signalling Dean's answer.
Her father mistook her stuttering as nervousness, so he got up from his seat and embraced his eldest daughter. "It'll be alright, Angel." He reassured her as he rubbed her back. Scarlett nodded and hugged him back for a few seconds before pulling away once more, lifting her head to look up at her fathers face. "Are we good?" She questioned and he nodded his head.
"I believe so. Whatever you do in your career is up to you but please, be careful with the Authority. They're no laughing matter." He stated, pulling her in for another hug which she returned once more. "Remind me why I let you train with me and Glenn?"
"Because you knew I would've just went to Steve Austin or some other wrestler to do it." She chuckled as she pulled back. "Imagine, knowing how to do a Stone Cold Stunner, but not a Tombstone, that'd be something."
"Yeah, I don't doubt that." He laughed as well before kissing the top of her head. "Go on Angel, you're free."
"Okay, bye daddy. Bye Uncle Glenn." She wove at them as she walked backwards towards the door.
"Goodbye Scarlett, if I see you later, it's back to Kane." He said as he wove back to her. She merely stuck her tongue out at him before she shut the hotel room door. Shaking her head, she began to walk towards the elevators as she pulled her cell phone out of her pocket once more. Sure enough, she had a new message from Dean. Opening it, she stopped in her tracks in the middle of the hallway.
'10:40, if you're not here by then, I'm gone.' (Tues 10:26am)
Shifting her eyes to the time it was now, they widened as she watched the time flick from 10:38 to 10:39. She literally had 60 seconds to get down 3 floors... Screw the elevator.
Not caring what happened to her phone, she shoved it in her pocket again unlocked as she dashed for the stair well and began running down them. Skipping stairs and being extra careful not to trip, she made it down the 3 flights in record time as she swung the door open as her heart hammered in her chest.
Just as she was wracking her brain to remember the room number she'd seen on the door the previous night, she noticed a hooded man standing by the elevator doors. He had one bag in his hand and the other was on the floor, his hood was pulled up on his head so she couldn't see his face but she'd know him anywhere. Hell she was wearing the exact same sweater
As she watched the elevator doors begin to open, she did the only thing that seemed logical to her at that point. She ran at him, ducking down like she was going for a spear and rammed him into the wall next to the elevator, nearly knocking him off his feet.
"Fuck! What the hell?" He cursed as he looked down at whoever rammed into him, just as she looked up at him. She watched as his eyebrows rose once he saw who it was. "Scarlett? The fuck are you doing?" He asked as he pulled a headphone out of his ear.
"Don't you dare leave without talking to me." She tried to ground out but it came out more weak than she intended so she sighed. "Please let me talk to you."
He looked over her face for a minute before he sighed himself. "You're lucky that I actually like you. When I say I'm gone, I mean it."
Scarlett didn't even try to contain the smile that erupted onto her face when he spoke. She grabbed onto his hand, tangling their fingers together as she picked up one of his bags while he picked up the other one and lead her down the hall again. He tried to take his bag from her while they walked, but she refused him. Once they got back to the room and he unlocked the door with his key, Scarlett found herself face to face with Tori for the first time since last night.
"Guess who tackled me in the hallway." Dean announced as he walked in the room behind Scarlett before throwing his bag down by the door, doing the same with the one Scarlett gave him. When she turned her attention back to the couch that Seth, Roman and Tori were seated on, she noticed Tori had an eyebrow arched at her.
"You tackled him in the hallway?" She questioned. Scarlett nodded her head as Dean laced his fingers between hers again and lead her over to where they were sitting.
"I knew I liked you for a reason." She smirked causing Dean to roll his eyes.
"Fuck off Victoria." He responded as he directed Scarlett to one of the chairs in the room. He then placed his hands on her shoulders, pushing down on them to make her sit before moving to sit on the couch with the others.
Seeing the confused look on Scarlett's face, Dean spoke up. "So, tell us all about being the Undertaker's daughter."
And she did. She told them practically everything. Since her secret was out, why hide anything anymore? She told them about being the eldest of his 4 kids and so far, being the only one to show an interest in doing what he did. She told them bits and pieces that some had already heard, like Tori knowing how her mother had taken care of her for a bit when she was a baby before deciding she didn't want her anymore, and shipped her off with her father who was working on the road full time. So she grew up around everything WWE all of her life. Then at the age of 7 as she watched everybody running around in preparation for Wrestlemania 13, she knew she wanted to be a Diva and the rest was history.
She told them about how she began training with her father at the age of 15, and then with her uncle when her father knew that he could be trusted with her. She told them all the moves she had been taught, from Hell's Gate to the infinite Tombstone Piledriver, that information to Scarlett's relief had Tori actually bouncing in her seat.
She then told them the parts she'd told Roman already. About why she'd chosen to wrestle under the name 'Scarlett Payne' instead of her real name, Scarlett Calaway. They seemed to understand her now, except for Dean. He hadn't said a word since she'd started talking.
Once she was done, she was relieved when no one seemed angry at her anymore. It was then that Dean stated he was going to bring his bags back into his room, which he then got up and did, shutting the door behind him.
Scarlett frowned at the closed door, but then took the opportunity to tell Tori about her call with Hunter earlier. The girls then agreed that they needed their own time to talk one on one beforehand so they were going to head back to their own room to shower and change.
"I just have to get my bag from Roman's room and I'll be right out." She stated, getting to her feet again as Roman did the same. Tori nodded her response and Scarlett made her way to the room she'd slept in the previous night, Roman on her heels the entire way.
Once the door shut behind them, Scarlett felt him wrap his arms around her waist from behind settling his chin on top of her head. "How'd your conversation with him go?" He asked and Scarlett shrugged as she leaned back into him.
"Was alright, I told him about my internal battles about whether or not I should join you in the Shield considering everything." She answered, then let out a small chuckle. "I told him about how I screamed at you in the elevator that day you were showing off in the gym."
"I said you didn't have to be looking." He chuckled as well before it died out suddenly. "After that I wasn't so sure what you were going to say to us."
"You guys were plotting to corner me even then?" She asked as she turned to face him. She wore an amused expression, but she was genuinely surprised at what he just said.
She watched him nod his head as he connected their eyes together. "We've pretty much wanted you since you debuted, sweetheart."
"Both of you?" She questioned, subconsciously lifting her hand to play with a strand of hair that had came out of his bun. When he nodded she smiled slightly but then dodged out of the way as he leaned in to kiss her. "If you start that I'll never get where I'm going, and end up fired." She laughed and he sighed, nodding his agreement.
She quickly changed out of his pajama bottoms, making him turn around so he wouldn't see her. He had done so, complaining that he'd already seen her change the night before but now was different to her. She wasn't a blubbering mess that couldn't focus on anything this time. So once she was sorted out, she picked up her bag and left the room, but not before kissing him on the cheek.
"Ready?" Tori asked her from the couch. Scarlett bit her lip as she glanced back at the door Dean went through before turning her attention back on Tori.
"I'm gonna try to say bye to him first." She said and Tori nodded her head, turning her attention back on Seth. Scarlett shook her head as she made her way over to Dean's door, tapping her knuckles against it a couple of times before she twisted the knob and pushed it open. She found him sitting on the edge of his bed, twirling an unlit cigarette through his fingers.
"Hey," She smiled softly at him as she entered the room. When he didn't respond or look up at her, her smile faded however. "Dean?" She questioned, dropping her bag to the floor as she shut the door behind her then moved to sit beside him on the bed.
"You're allowed to turn one of us down you know." He said finally, causing Scarlett's eyebrows to furrow. "Me and Roman, you're allowed to only chose one of us if you only want one."
"What are you talking about?" She asked, the tone of her voice giving away her confusion. When she moved her hand on his back to rub it, he jumped up off the bed and began pacing back and forth in front of her as he rubbed his hand over his shoulder.
"I can understand if you just want Roman now, he clearly understands you better with his big wrestling family. I come from nothing so I'm used to having nobody, wouldn't be a huge shock to me if you decided that." He answered her and Scarlett's eyebrows nearly rose into her hairline. Shaking her head, she got up and stood in front of him to stop him from pacing.
"Dean, do you really think I would've ran down 3 flights of stairs and speared you into a wall to stop you from leaving if I only wanted Roman?" She questioned with a smile as she took the hand that he was rubbing his shoulder with, lacing their fingers together. Her smile grew when he began rubbing circles into the back of her hand with his thumb, and a smile of his own graced his face.
"I suppose not, and that did fucking hurt. Not as much as taking Roman's, but I do pity the Diva's." He laughed and Scarlett chuckled, lifting her other hand to rub his side that she rammed into. "Sorry about that."
"I've taken worse, can kiss it better if you like." He smirked. Scarlett shook her head as she let another laugh escape her lips. "Can tell you're back to normal."
"That a problem, Princess?" He questioned, leaning his head down towards hers. She shook her head as she watched him lean closer, then turned her head last second so he kissed her cheek instead.
"I cut Roman off for the same reason, if you kiss me, I won't make it to see Hunter and Stephanie and I'll be fired." She stated and Dean rolled his eyes as he pulled her up against him.
"One isn't going to make you late, and I think you owe me one for earlier." He raised his eyebrows at her. Scarlett was about to respond but was silenced as he placed his lips overtop of hers... Remind her again why she was denying this?
She sighed into the kiss as she wove her fingers through his slightly curly hair, tugging at it slightly as she moved her lips over his. When he slid his hands down to her lower back and she felt him nip at her bottom lip she reluctantly pulled back.
"This is why I shouldn't have let you do that." She sighed as she lifted herself up slightly to peck his lips once more. He merely smirked as he tried to pull her closer again but she pulled away from him completely. "No, I have to go."
"Fine, go do whatever." He wove her off as he turned and grabbed his cigarette and lighter. She picked up her bag and began leaving again but he caught her wrist then spun her to face him.
"I normally wouldn't say this, because when am I ever in the wrong?" He questioned, smirking at her sarcastically before he dropped it to look more serious. "But I'm sorry for storming off last night, and what I did."
"It's alright." Scarlett shrugged. "I half provoked you, calling you Mox when you told me not to."
"Yeah, let's not get into that right now, or you'll really miss your big meeting." He said and Scarlett shrugged once more. Beginning to turn around to face the door again, he caught her off guard as he pecked her lips quickly. "Ambrose!" She groaned. He smirked as he walked around her, then proceeded to pull the door open. He was about to step out of the room when he stopped suddenly, causing Scarlett to almost walk into his back.
"Get a room!" He groaned. Furrowing her eyebrows, Scarlett peered around him and felt her jaw slacken as it fell open slightly. They had just pulled apart, but Scarlett knew she'd seen Seth and Tori kissing at the doorway.
"Shut up, Mox!" Tori groaned, her face turning red as a tomato as she then focused her attention onto Scarlett. "Are you ready now?"
Scarlett nodded and walked out from behind Dean, too surprised to say anything at that moment. Tori said goodbye to Seth, with words, and flipped Dean off before they walked out the room. They were halfway to the stairwell when Scarlett finally spoke up again.
"So.. you and Seth, huh?"
How was that long awaited conversation? haha Tell me what you think in the reviews, and Happy Mother's Day to all of your mothers, and if you're a mother, Happy Mothers Day to you as well! :)
