A/N: PLEASE READ! So, I'm finally back and I know you all must hate me but I DO have a valid excuse! After my last update, I had family visit from out of the country and they stayed for a month and then school started so I've been very busy. This is a very crucial year in my schooling so I have to unfortunately put more of a focus on that and less on writing. Therefore, in my bottom A/N I'll tell you how often I should be able to update. Anyways, thank you all for your continued love and support! You guys are my world! Enjoy the chapter!
Disclaimer: If I owned Twilight, fanfiction would not be needed. The saga belongs to Stephanie Meyer.
Bella POV: I was shaking so hard that everything was blurry. I always knew that I would have to be scared of Victoria. Even after the Cullens left I knew that I would have to put up with the fear and anxiety until she either gave up or came for me. Never though, had I ever expected to be scared of Alice, much less of Edward.
When he left, I thought that was the end; that he wouldn't care what I did again. And in a way, I suppose he didn't, unless what I did involved his brother.
Eventually I finally gained control of myself again and turned to Jasper, who was staring at me with fear in his eyes. It took me a moment to realize he wasn't afraid of me or my reaction, but of the possibility of me being taken from him.
My heart twisted at the very thought. "Jazz," I said faintly, still finding it somewhat troublesome to breathe. "Jazz, what do we do?"
He didn't even blink, didn't even seem to register that I was speaking to him, but all the same he said, "You have to call Charlie," his voice was monotone. "Tell him Carlisle, Emmett and I have gone camping for the next week and you'll be staying with Rose and Esme. While he thinks that, you and I can go and visit Peter and Charlotte in New York."
I had heard stories about Peter and Charlotte from Jasper's days with Maria. Jasper had told me that the couple was like family to him, that they rarely got to see one another, and that Jasper trusted Peter and Charlotte with his life and vice versa.
Despite that, I was still a little skeptical. "Peter and Charlotte?" I squeaked. "Are you sure Jasper?"
"Of course I'm sure," he looked slightly taken aback. "They may drink human blood, Bella, but they don't kill for sport. They only feed when they're hungry. Besides, they know you're important to me. Neither one of them would ever hurt you."
"Y-you've told them about me?" my heart did a soft flutter. He'd told me more than once that he kept in touch with the pair frequently, but I'd never seen him call them since he'd been here, so I didn't even expect them to know about his divorce from Alice, much less his new human girlfriend. Maybe they'd spoken at a time when I hadn't been at the house, or had been sleeping.
"Of course I have darlin'," he told me in his smooth-as-honey voice as he wrapped his arms delicately around my waist. "You're the most important thing in my life, how could I not tell them about you?"
I made a soft noise of approval in the back of my throat as I buried my face in his chest. "What if they don't like me?" I wondered, my voice muffled.
He chuckled, the noise vibrating in my ear. "That is the silliest thing you've ever said," he told me, kissing the top of my head. "It's unfathomable that someone wouldn't like you, much less anyone like Peter and Charlotte. If it's of any comfort, they despised Alice. When I told them about you they were over the moon that I'd finally managed to find someone that makes me happy."
I lifted my eyes to look at him again, and he was staring down at me with so much love I suddenly found it hard to breathe. In an instant, I felt an unreal jolt of affection so strong that I had to press my lips to his.
When I finally pulled away he smiled and it look like if he could cry, he would. "Sorry," he whispered hoarsely. "I projected some of my affection onto you. I can usually keep my gift under control, I don't know what happened."
"It's okay," I told him honestly, gently brushing his cheek with my fingertips. "I don't mind knowing how much you love me."
Someone cleared their throat behind us, and I realized that despite how much we were in our own world, we still weren't alone in the room.
"As much as I hate to interrupt," Carlisle said softly. "I suggest we start moving. Bella, text Charlie and let him know where you'll be at the last second, don't think about it unless you have to. We don't want Edward or Alice beating you to your destination."
Jasper nodded. "I take it I won't be informing Peter that he and Charlotte that they have visitors on the way, then?
Carlisle shook his head. "If you do so, Alice will undoubtedly see, she's so attuned to you. You have to fake a route to Chicago first, then alter your course to Wisconsin, then circle around to New York. She can never know where you'll end up."
"Which car should we take?" was all Jasper said in reply.
"Mine. If you take yours, they'll know what we're up to," Rose said. "By taking mine, she could just assume that Emmett and I left if her and Edward decide to come snooping."
"But she'll know you're here if she decides to come," he countered. "She'll be able to smell you."
"Not if we delay her for a few days and make ourselves scarce. You can stay a little while longer, and we'll leave now to start tracking Victoria. That way, your scents will be the strongest in the house, and they'll stay to wait for you. By the time they realize that you're not coming and no one's been in the house for days, this will all be over."
Thirty minutes later, our plan was fully established. Emmett, Rosalie, Carlisle and Esme were leaving the house and venturing into the forest to get a lock on Victoria, and Jasper and I were left to sit in the house, alone for the first time in a very long time.
We sat silently for a few minutes with me on his lap, and then I said. "Do you remember the day you got here, Jasper? How I looked when you first saw me?"
He nodded, his face stoic, but his voice broken. "You looked like hell," he whispered, agonized. "Like you were broken so far beyond repair, like you would never smile again."
"It felt like I would never smile again," I whispered.
"But you did," he told me triumphantly. "You did smile. You smiled the smile of a strong independent woman, like the one I fell in love with."
"That's how I feel now."
"Then why bring it up?"
"Because," I said, swallowing the lump that rose in my throat. "Because if you fight Edward, I don't know which one of you will come out alive and I-" I let a few tears slip from my eyes. "I don't want to be broken again, Jasper."
He looked at me for a moment as though he were gazing into my soul and then he kissed me, wiping the tears from my eyes as he did so. "Never Bella," he vowed, his tone final. "I will never let you feel like that again."
A/N: Awwwh, sad little fluff! How do you guys think Peter and Charlotte will react to Bella? Will the rest of the Cullens find Victoria? Where do you guys think our favorite controlling ex-boyfriend and girlfriend are at the moment, what are they plotting? Why don't we all take a gander at guessing in the comments? As for my update schedule, I said before that this is a very crucial year for me, and that can't really be derailed as much as I wish I could write every day. So I propose a schedule of updates every two weeks to a month, maybe sooner on a good week. Sound good? Once again, let me know! I love you all and I'll be back very soon!
Thanks for Reading!
