"Alright, is everyone packed?" Mum asked as we went through the door. I looked at her confused. "I'm sorry, sweetie, I forgot to tell you we're going to visit your grandparents for the summer.
We had just got home from the train station and everyone was running around in the in chaos.
"Sweetie, put all your summer clothes in my luggage and met us down here." Dad said. I nodded and went up stairs dragging my things along. I stopped in front Mills room and saw him neatly packing his clothes.
"Mind helping me after you done?" I asked.
Mills head shot up and grins brightly. "Welcome back, Nini!" He got up and hugged me. "Mum and dad told me what happened. You got petrified."
I laughed. "I did and it was amazing," I said excitedly. "I don't remember a thing!"
"Maybe they should have kept you petrified." Janice said from behind me.
I turned around. "Janice, stop and go pack." Mills said and she stormed off. "I'll be there in a minute."
After being on a plane for 11 hours, we finally arrived in Los Angeles. We got to sit in first class. It's been a long time since we've been here. The States always amazing me. Their culture was completely different from ours. The weather was much more warmer than in England.
Finally, we got to our grandparents house. I got out of the car dad had rented and ran into my granddad's arms. "Nini, oh, how I missed you!" He says.
"I've missed you too!" I said letting go of him. "Where Nana?" I asked.
"Waiting inside for you." Granddad said letting me pass me.
I hurry into their grand house and I see my grandma taking cookies out of the oven. "Nana!" I shouted excitedly.
She puts the cookies on the counter and quickly spins around and throws finger guns at me and I fall to the ground. Granddad comes in and rushes over to me.
"Nia, what happened?" He asked.
"Tell my family I love them." I said and pretend to die.
We were having a barbecue outside in the back to celebrate my 13th birthday. Some other family member and grandma's friends were here too. I was eating a hot dog when my grandma stood up and called for everyone's attention.
"Everyone, thank you for coming to my granddaughter birthday," She began as I turned around. "You have no idea how proud am I of her. She has gotten into a pristine school."
I blushed embarrassed that all the attention was on me. Nigel and Janice scoff as grandma continued to talk. She mention there was going to be a Fourth of July party at her home.
As the party ended and everyone was leaving. A girl about my age was staring at me intense. Before I could ask her why she was staring at me, her parent hurried her out the door.
Sadly, I had to share a room with Janice and it was the worst. "Let me have one of the Chocolate Frogs." Janice said.
I rolled my eyes and got one out of my luggage. I had brought some of them with me. It just too bad I couldn't bring Milly, but I'm lucky Snape could take of her. I don't why Snape offered to take for for the summer. I did write to him say I had no one to look after Milly. Hermione was going to France. Ron was going to Egypt and, well, I don't think Harry's uncle and aunt would like it if another bird was in there home.
"Be careful not to show anyone them." I said. "They like to move."
Janice snatched it out of my hand and I frown. "I don't care."
I watched her open it and the frog immediately jump out. We started to chase the from around the room. I finally caught it and suddenly there was a knock at the door. I grabbed Janice's collar and shoved the frog into her mouth.
"Come in." I said.
Granddad came in. "What's with all the commotion?" He asked.
I looked over at Janice who was on the floor. "Nothing." I said innocently.
Granddad stared at the both of us suspiciously. He slowly closes the door and Janice stands up and swallows the frogs.
"What the bloody hell is wrong with you!" She whispered.
"He's a muggle," I argued. "I could get in trouble if he sees something like that."
Janice gives me a look. "Yeah, we wouldn't want you to get in trouble, now wouldn't we." She glared at me.
The Fourth of July party finally arrived and more people came this time. The girl from before was here too and she continued to stare at me. I was getting bored, so I decided to go inside and call Hermione. I dialed her number. Luckily, she hadn't left for France yet.
"Hello?" I heard a woman's voice.
"Mrs. Granger, this is Nia," I say. "Could I talk to Hermione for a bit?"
"Of course, sweetheart." She says. I could hear her all out for Hermione and footsteps coming toward the phone.
"Nia!" Hermione said. "Why haven't you written us? I got an owl from Ron says not to call Harry because his uncle doesn't want us to call."
"I don't have Milly." I say. "And you've got to be kidding me. I swear I am this close to cursing him. That man is the devil."
"You don't have Milly?" Hermione asked curious.
"No, I'm in America." I said happily. "My parents forgot to tell me that we were going. I was getting bored so I decided to call you."
"I'll make sure to tell Harry and Ron before I leave tomorrow." Hermione says. "Who did you leave Milly with?"
"Uh, you're not going to like it." I said nervously. "I left her with Snape."
"SNAPE!" Hermione shouted over the phone. "Why in the world would you leave her with Snape? After anything he's done!"
"Hermione, calm down." I said trying to hold in my laughter. "Snape a good person...at times. He was trying to save Harry from dying. That wasn't his fault, it was Voldemort."
"Nia!" Hermione fumed.
"Hermione!" I mimicked her. "Fear of a name only increases fear of the thing itself."
Hermione and I continued to talk for an hour until my Mills came and told me to come and eat. I said my goodbyes to Hermione and I followed Mills to the door. I close the door and look to see the girl looking at me. I smirked to myself and danced my way down the stairs.
I went over to where the food was and began making my hamburger.
"You think she's goes to one of those special school." I heard a lady say.
"You mean, a mentally retarded school?" Another woman asked.
I looked back at them and they quickly look away from. "Don't listen to them. They could never understand what we do." The girl from before said standing next to me.
"What we do?" I questioned.
"Magic." She whispered.
I gave her a look. "What?" I asked.
"I know you're a witch," She says. "I heard you talking about He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named."
"That was a private conversation!" I growled.
"Calm down!" She said grinning. "I'm a witch too."
"Obvious," I said sarcastically. "You know who Voldemort." I said.
After calming myself down, the girl, Ester and I went to sit at porch steps and talked about our experienced at school. She was shocked to find out I was petrified. I told her about Hogwarts and the house and which one I was in. She told she goes to Ilvermorny, which is in Massachusetts. She also told me what house she was in Wampus, they favour warriors.
I have to admit, I didn't not like Ester at first but she was growing on me. She was very excited to meet me. Apparently, American witches and wizards call muggle's 'no-maj.' It was a pretty silly name for non magical folks but I suppose 'muggle' is silly too.
Thanks for reading! I wanted to finish this chapter before I went to sleep. I'm super tired btw. - Poppy
