MxM, after Destiny
The air smelled of coffee and flowers.
Eyes still closed she smiled and stretched out before sinking back into the soft pillows with a contented sigh.
"Good morning."
Her smile grew. "...morning." Half-opening her eyes she peeked around, smile becoming slightly rueful when he wasn't anywhere in sight. "Where'd you go?"
Laughter. "Over here."
Propping herself up on her elbows she glanced around the large room, shaking her head to see him on the sofa at the bottom of the bed. "You couldn't sleep again?"
"No, I slept pretty well, actually. But I did wake up early, and I didn't want to disturb you, so.."
"I wouldn't have minded. You know that."
He didn't say anything to that. Pulling the fluffy white comforter over her head Murrue made her way down to the bottom of the canopied bed, appearing out the other end to wind her arms around him. He laughed again, setting down his coffee and squeezing her hands. "Sorry."
"Nothing to be sorry for," she assured him with a kiss. "Not after last night."
A snort. "Even though you complained the whole way here."
Another kiss. "If you'd just told me before we set off, I wouldn't have."
"I wanted it to be a surprise."
"And it was." He'd picked her up from work the night before like always, but instead of driving home he'd instead taken the road to the main island, ignoring her protests and repeating that he'd got something planned, and that she'd enjoy it when she got there. She'd been tired and cranky from a day spent pulling maintenance on the Murasame fleet, and all she'd really wanted was dinner, a shower and bed. But instead.. "I think it was a surprise for them as much as it was for me."
Mwu leaned back into her embrace. "I'm sure they didn't mind."
"Hope not." She'd grumbled so much she hadn't really paid much attention to where they were going, only to be startled into silence when she'd been led into the foyer of Orb's fanciest hotel. It had been bigger than her entire house, panelled with wood and marble and mirrors, every reflection showing how grimy and dirty she'd still looked even after cleaning up. "You don't think I stood out a bit?"
"Sure you did," he replied with a smile. "Cause you were more beautiful than any other girl there."
The compliment made her blush like always, warmth filling her chest. Without saying anything she hugged him a little tighter, resting her chin on his shoulder.
He hadn't thought it'd work at first. He'd spent a small fortune on this trip, having saved every spare penny for the last six months so everything could be like he'd wanted, but it had almost come to nothing. She'd driven him up the wall with her complaints, so much so he'd nearly turned around and just taken her home. But I'm glad I didn't.
"This was worth the grumbles."
A little sigh, and a kiss to his cheek. "M'sorry about that. If you'd dropped me off at home and just come here yourself, I'd have deserved it."
"What sort of fun would this have been without you?"
He felt her smile, and she looped her arms around his shoulders and tried to tug him back into bed. And with a grin of his own he let her, reaching up to bring her close for another kiss.
"How long were you planning this?"
"Bout six months."
She laughed softly, nuzzling closer to him. "You were not."
"I was. You check when we get home. I'll show you the receipts and everything. I never got to spend Valentine's Day with you before, so I wanted to make sure it was something really special." When she didn't say anything to that he opened one eye to see her gazing at him with an odd expression. "What?"
"Nothing, I just.." She smiled. "I never knew you could be such a romantic."
"To be honest, I didn't either until I tried." He glanced to the side table, where the bouquet of red roses he'd presented her with still stood in their vase next to the two empty champagne glasses. "But I knew I wanted it to be something you'd remember."
"I will, believe me." She settled back down beside him with a happy sigh. "Love you."
"Love you too."
"Will next year be better?"
"Course it will."
(Nothing much in this, but there really doesn't need to be. I always pictured him as a big softie xD
