The next morning, Donna and Hank got ready to go to work. Today, Donna was going to be talking with Commander Holleran, and she was excited to tell him about Doctor McNickles' decision.
When Donna showed up at the barn, the team was out patrolling. Before she went to the commander's office, she stopped by to talk to Winnie for a few moments to catch up.
Winnie said with a smile, "Hi, Donna, how are you doing? And when are you coming back? "
"I'm doing fine," Donna said, returning the smile. "I'm coming back any day now, but don't tell anyone yet, please. I'm going to talk to Holleran about it. Where's the team?"
"Your team is out patrolling," Winnie replied. "I can have them come back if you want. And I won't say anything... But can you do something for me, please?"
"No, don't recall them," said Donna. "And sure, I'll do something for you if I can."
A look of concern crossed Winnie's face. "Can you talk to Eddie?" she asked quietly. "There is something up with him. He's been very cranky lately, and I'm getting worried."
Concerned, Donna said, "I will talk to him. Thanks for letting me know; I'll call him later. Okay, I'm off to see the commander. Talk to you later."
"Thanks, Donna," said Winnie. "See you later."
At Holleran's door, Donna paused and knocked.
"Come in!" yelled Holleran. Donna entered quietly. "Hi, Sergeant Gerald. How are you doing?"
A big smile spread across Donna's face. "I'm doing fine. And I have good news! I've been released to come back, but under some conditions. Dr. McNickles recommends that I be on light duty for the first few days. She also wants my weigh-in results faxed in to her office. Finally, I still have to see Dr. Luria once a week."
Commander was listening intently to all this. "We can do that," he said. "When do you want to start back?"
"How about next week?" Donna suggested. "We have a long weekend coming up. It would be silly if I started for just two days and then went on the long weekend break."
Commander Holleran nodded agreeably. "Copy," he said, then grew serious. "Have you talked to Constable Lane lately…?"
"No, I haven't," Donna replied. "But I'm going to. And you're not the first one to say something to me about Ed... Do you mind if I hang out a bit at the barn? I would love to work out a bit."
"Sure, go ahead," said Norm.
They shook hands and Donna excused herself; then headed to the locker room to change.
Troy's team was out on the exercise floor, so Donna asked if she could join them.
"Sure you can," said Troy.
Donna jumped on the treadmill and joked with the others until they had a hot call.
"Be careful out there," she said to them as they ran off to get changed.
"Copy that," said Troy. He was thinking it was nice to see Donna back to herself, then got his head in the game. Sadly, Donna didn't see any of the other teams before she headed home to check on the kittens.
It was a mess when she stepped inside the house, as the kitten had decided to destroy the roll of toilet paper in the bathroom. Donna wasn't very amused by the mess. The kittens had ripped the toilet paper to tiny shreds and it was all over the floors before she cleaned it up . Donna took a picture and sent it to Hank with the message close the bathroom door. Donna had to drag the vacuum out to clean the mess. Needless to say the kittens flipped out because of the vacuum.
