Chapter 21: Play III

Tai: So…do you still think you can beat us?
Mr. Uchida: You do not know the power of darkness!
TK: Darkness…always darkness…what is the matter with you?! Can't you see that it's not the way?! Your wife died…and I'm sorry for that, but you cannot give into these dark thoughts. Fight it!
Mr. Uchida: SHUT UP! ATTACK THEM!

The dark creatures attacked, but with only a few hits they were thrown back. Mr. Uchida was getting restless. He could not bear a defeat. He needed to deliver Kari to his master.

Mr. Uchida: I've had it with you! Deliver the girl and nothing will happen to the rest of you!
As he said it a dark aura was forming around him. The Digidestined were looking fearful. No one had expected anything like this. The darkness fueled the dark creatures and they grew stronger and bigger. As they were growing all Digimon except MagnaAngemon and Angewomon were digivolving back to their rookie level forms.

Matt: What's happening? How is he doing that? The Digimon…we won't be able to stop them like this!
Kari: Maybe…just TK and I…
Tai: What do you mean? Two ultimate Digimon? They are much stronger now!
Kari: MagnaAngemon and Angewomon can digivolve to the Mega Level! We can do this!
Izzy: Mega Level? Since when?
Davis: Since the adventure in the US!
Tai: And you conveniently forget to tell us these things?!
TK: It's not so important…and it doesn't always happen like with you...
Kari: TK…shall we try?

Mr. Uchida: You have no chance! You will lose now!
TK: Just wait! We'll get you! Kari! Ready!

Before they could start the dark creatures attacked MagnaAngemon and Angewomon. They were fiercer than before and both Digimon were thrown to the ground.

Kari and TK tried to get them to digivolve but nothing happened.
Matt: The darkness is too strong! This can't be happening…
Kari started to feel dizzy. She could not stand on her feet. The power of the dark aura was diminishing her grip. As she fell Tai caught her midway. TK was surprisingly not affected. He did not lose hope.

Mr. Uchida: Yes! The power of darkness is rising!
Yoshio: Kari! No! What's happening! Do something!
Mai: DAD! STOP! YOU'RE HURTING HER!
TK (running towards her and pushing Yoshio and Tai aside): Kari! Kari! Listen to me…don't lose hope! I'm here…we can do this together! Kari! Don't faint on me! Come on!
Kari: TK…I'm losing the battle…
TK: NO! Don't give up on me! Not now…not after we're finally together…there's still so much I want to do with you! I need you to fight for me, for us!
He did not think at that moment. He just kissed her. Mai was looking shocked, Yoshio, Izzy and all others who were not aware of Kari's and TK's relationship were all surprised. Izzy's mother was more shocked than Izzy or Kari's parents. Only a few seconds later a bright light was shining from the sky, falling on both MagnaAngemon and Angewomon, who were filled with strength.

MagnaAngemon: MagnaAngemon digivolve to…Seraphimon!
Angewomon: Angewomon digivolve to…Magnadramon!

TK broke loose and was looking Kari in the eyes. Kari was still dizzy but with his help she could stand.
Kari: Look…we did it! Go Magnadramon! Seraphimon!

The Digimon were much stronger now than their opponents. The dark creatures were beaten back just by the light they were emanating.
Mr. Uchida: NO! I will not give up! The dark aura was getting stronger, but Kari and TK and their Digimon would not back down.

Kari: TK…bring me closer to him…
Yoshio: Are you mad?! Why would you do that?!
Kari: Just trust me dad…TK?
TK: I agree with your dad…
Kari: Please TK…
TK (lifting her up): Alright. Seraphimon! Magnadramon! Keep Kari and I safe!
Seraphimon: We will settle it!

The dark creatures tried one by one to attack Kari and TK, but they could not touch them, as the two Digimon were protecting them. TK reached Mr. Uchida who tried to grab Kari, but TK stopped him. The crowd was looking at what was happening in awe. Kari then stood up and touched Uchida's cheek. A bright light engulfed both of them. Through Mr. Uchida's mind went pictures of his wife and daughter. A few seconds later the dark aura left him and he fell to the ground. Seraphimon and Magnadramon destroyed the remaining dark creatures and digivolved back to Patamon and Gatomon. Everyone was in awe at the happenings.

Mr. Uchida: What have I done…how is it possible that I could do something like that…inhumane…I do not deserve to live anymore!
Kari: Yes you do! For your wife…who surely misses you and for your daughter!
Mr. Uchida: Mai! Mai! My sweet girl! I love you so much…I'm so so sorry!
Mai: It's ok dad! I'm so glad you are alright! Thanks Kari! TK! (she hugged them both before hugging her father)
Mr. Uchida: I'll set things right!
Kari: I'm glad to hear it. (she turned to TK and took him by the waist away from Mai and her father)

Atsuko (running towards her daughter): Kari! Oh my God! I can't believe it! You are fantastic! How did you? And I had no idea you two were like this…I'm so sorry for pushing you into other crazy things! You two are perfect!
Yoshio: One more time you saved my daughter! Kari! Incredible!
Everyone else came to them to congratulate them. They were the talk of the crowd. As they were talking, Izzy noticed behind them Gennai, who was approaching them.

Gennai: You've done well Digidestined! But…there is one thing I must still tell you…
Kari: What? What's wrong?
Gennai: I don't even know how to tell you this…
Tai: Let me guess…we haven't defeated the bad guys yet?
Gennai: Yes…and no…we may not even need to…
Matt: What do you mean?
Gennai: We all know they are after Kari's light, and they are only able to spot it…if the light shines!
Yoshio: I don't get a thing…
Gennai: Kari's light is now split between her and TK…every moment they are together the light shines bright and strong! If this light is split…
TK: Wait a minute?! What are you suggesting?!
Gennai: You two are the key to ending this…all of it!
Kari: Do you mean to tell us we need to break-up or what do you want?
Gennai: I'm sorry…this is a lot to ask…not just break-up…you two need to live as far away as possible from one another…
Kari: NO! I'm not gonna be split away from him!
TK: Neither will I!
Gennai: They will never stop hunting you Kari! Do you know what happens if they get you?!
Kari: THEY WON'T!
Gennai: They will harvest your light, and use it to engulf the world in darkness! If they get you there will be nothing left in this world! Do you want that?! We need to do this! We cannot risk it! Your childish games and thoughts of love do not matter now! If we want to prevent it all we need to act! We need to act as quickly as possible!
Kari: But…I can't! I won't! (she was crying in TK's arms)
TK: Is there no other way?
Gennai: I'm really sorry…but I'm afraid there isn't…we can avert everything! All the issues…the root of darkness!
TK: Kari…
Kari: No! I won't! You won't leave me…not like this!
TK: Kari…there is no other way…
Kari (breaking loose): You won't even fight for us!
TK: I fight for you…I just need YOU to be safe! I need to know that nothing can ever happen to you!
Kari: Why do you all think that I can't take care of myself! We can fight them off together!
TK (reaching out to her, but she turned away): Kari…
Kari: Then leave!
Gennai: It's not just him who will leave…the Digimon too…
Tai: WHAT?!
Gennai: We will close the doors to all worlds with the help of Azulongmon…and to ensure nothing will ever go wrong…we will wipe everyone's memory of the Digital world!
Kari: Does that mean that we won't even remember each other…or the time we spent together?
Gennai: It will be like that yes…I mean Matt will know his brother…but the rest of you won't. This is also to ensure that TK and Kari will not remember each other.
TK: So this is it…we have to say good bye to our Digimon and friends?
Gennai: Unfortunately…yes…in a minute I will execute the plan…please say your good byes now…

Tai: Well this…these were the best moments of my life…
Kari: Just drop it…it's incredible that this happens…I'm done with all of it. Good bye!
TK: But…Kari?
Gatomon: Kari, what's wrong?
Kari: Everything! I think Gennai should just do it already…no point in extending our agony…
Matt: I guess Kari's right…
Davis: Why does it have to be now, when I have a girlfriend…?
Gennai: When you wake up, everything will change…but you won't know anything. Good bye my friends!

Gennai activated a device and a bright light was shining. The next moment everything turned dark.

One year later:

TK woke up in his bed. He was certain today would be a good day at school. He had only few classes to attend and after that he would play basketball. It was a typical school day for him. His best friend was waiting for him at the subway station near his house.

TK: Hey Alain!
Alain: TK! Come! We need to go to school fast!

Little did TK know that today would change everything for him.
