Bargaining For The Treasure Map
Hello! I am back with another chapter! Sorry for the long wait, I've actually finished all the chapters of this story except for this one. Since this chapter had been on my hard drive that was destroyed, I couldn't find the motivation to redo it until now. Hope it was worth the wait. I still think the one on my hard drive was better than this one.
My crew and I had been walking around this forest for ages, it felt as if we were stuck in a never ending maze. I was positive that the long boat had crashed landed around this area. I could hear the grumbles from my crew behind me making my blood boil. If there is one thing I hate, it's complaining.
"Captain, look!" I perked up, looking off to the side where my smallest crew member, Onus, stood. My face immediately fell upon seeing it was just the destroyed long boat. I approached it, scanning it for any clues or hints, but there were nothing. I was thankful to see no blood or a dead body lying around so that must mean the captain, doc and Jimbo had lived through that crash. I felt a smile tugging away at the corners of my mouth, quickly getting rid of it.
"It appears t'at t'ey had survived t'at crash so t'ey're on t'is planet somewhere. T'ey couldn't be too hard ta find," I said, facing my crew with a determined look. They all nodded, not uttering a word. I walked ahead, hearing the soft thuds following behind me.
We had been walking for what felt like days, the blaring sun beat down on us, cooking me like bacon. I could feel sweat dripping down my face. I sure hope this treasure was worth sweating to death. Just when I was about to declare that we take a short break, a loud voice cut me off. "HEY, FELLAS! WE'RE OVER HERE, FELLAS-" I looked over to the side, seeing a rusty old robot jumping around and waving his thin arms. I don't think I've seen him before
I heard guns shots from the side, surprising me. I whipped around to see that my crew had gotten their flintlocks out, shooting the purple beams at the robot. The robot managed to dodge each of the shot. My eyes widened when Jim suddenly came into view, pulling the robot, who I guessed was his friend, off to the side, shooting back at us with a gun of his own. I grinned, seeing the same technic that I had taught him. I quickly put my serious look back on, turning towards my crew.
"Stop wastin' yer fire!" I gestured for them to lower their flintlocks, shooting them each a glare as they whined in protest. Jim had disappeared into the safety of the cave, probably getting ready for our next attack. I turned back towards my crew, meeting their gazes. "I will go get t'at map from th' boy, stay 'ere." Before they could reply, I was already heading up the mountain towards Jim's hideout. "Hellooo, up there! ...Jimbo?" I pulled out a white flag to show him that I meant no harm. "If, eh, it's alright wit' th' captain... I'd like... a short word with yeh! No tricks! Just a little palaver!"
I could see him peering over the side of the cave, staring at me, somewhat, hesitant. He disappeared behind the wall. I frowned, thinking that he was purposely trying to avoid me. My face lite up when Jim climbed out of the cave, trudging down the mountain towards me. We met in the middle, I collapsed on a rock, giving me time to rest my injured cyborg leg. Morph dashed over to me, cuddling against my cheek. I smiled in return. "Ah, Morphy! I'd wondered where yeh'd lit off to!"
"Oh! Ooh! Oh, this poor old leg's downright snarky since t'at game o' tag we had in the galley, eh-heh?" I joked, chuckling at an attempt of getting Jim to talk. When the boy stayed silent, only giving me a glare, I continued, frowning, "W'atever ye heard back t'ere, at least th' part concernin' you... I didn't mean a word o' it! If t'at bloodthirsty lot had t'ought t'at I'd gone soft, t'ey'd've gutted us both!" I did a motion on my torso to demonstrate the gutting. Seeing as Jim still gave me that same emotionless look, I pulled him closer to me, having a plan in mind. "If we play our cards right, we can both walk away from t'is rich as kings!"
I saw the thoughtful look that appeared on Jim's face as he thought this over, grinning up at me. "Yeah?"
I laughed, nodding slightly, excited that I was finally getting to him. "You get me t'at map, and, eh, an even portion o' the treasure is yours!" I stuck out my metal hand for Jim to shake, grinning down at him.
Jim simply stared at my hand, dropping his gaze to the ground, a frown taking over his lips. "Boy... you are really something. All that talk of greatness... light comin' off my sails... what a joke." Jim circled me like a shark, turning away at his last statement.
I attempted to cut in to tell him that he had it all wrong. But when Jim whipped around, I stopped in mid-sentence. Tears filled up those blue orbs, threatening to fall at any moment. He obtained his glare despite the water in his eyes that he desperately tried to blink away. "You never really cared about me! It was all a lie! You set me up to like you, to trust you, to look up to you, and now you're just going to leave me?! You are JUST like my father!" Jim shouted, tears leaking out of his eyes and sliding down his cheeks.
I frowned at the boy. Jim bit his lip, probably trying to contain himself from sobbing. "Jimbo... I..." I reached a hand forward, only to have the boy back away, purposely avoiding my touch. I met Jim's gaze, seeing his face was as hard as a rock despite his teary eyes. He turned away from me once again, whipping a hand across his face before facing me once again, his usual serious face on. "I mean at least you taught me one thing: stick to it, right? Well that's just what I'm gonna do. I'm gonna make sure that you never see one drubloon of MY treasure!" he shouted, acting as if he had not been crying just moments ago.
I returned the glare with my own. "T'at treasure is OWED me, by t'under!" I don't know what came over me. I knew that he was angry and upset, but I couldn't help but feel frustrated.
"Well try to find it without MY map... BY T'UNDER!"
I clenched my teeth as if trying to prevent myself from ripping Jim apart. "Ohhh, you still don't know how t' pick yer fights, do yeh, boy?" I got to my feet, never breaking eye contact with the boy. "Now mark me: either I get that map by dawn t'morro', or so help me, I'll use the ship's cannons t' blast yeh all t' KINGDOM COME!" Jim stood his ground, hardening his glare at me, seeming unaffected by my threat. I shot a glance at Morph upon noticing the blob floating next to JIm's head. "Morph! Hop to it." Morph hesitated, glancing between me and Jim. I became irritated at the blob. "NOW!"
Morph made a frightened noise and quickly flew behind Jim's shoulder for protection. I sneered at both of them before storming off as quickly as I could with my wounded cyborg leg. I came to a stop when I reached the bottom of the hill, cocking my head over my shoulder. I could see Jim walking back to the safety of his cave, his head hang low. I frowned, feeling bad for causing the boy so much pain.
"I'm guessing that didn't go too well," One of my crew member stated, snapping me out of my thoughts.
I turned to face my crew, putting my serious look back on. "Don't worry, boys. We are not gonna be givin' up. T'ey 'ave ta leave t'at cave at some point," I said with a smirk.
I know that this chapter is quite boring and it is exactly like from the movie, but I swear that the next chapter is way better. Please review!
