Chapter 21-One wrong hit
"Check it out!" Wu exclaimed, waving his nunchucks around until a strip of lightning crackled around him. "Ha! I'm a natural at this."
"That doesn't change the fact that I can still beat you!" Misako chuckled using her scythe to trip the hyper blue eyed boy. "Which proves the fact that I'm the green ninja."
Wu stayed on the ground, looking up at the bright green eyes that had become his world. "How bout a fight to see who the best really is?"
"Why not? I'd love to get some practice with this thing." Misako swung her golden weapon, enjoying the feeling the power and strength it gave her. "Then maybe you can learn a lesson or two about what girls can do."
Looking down at his golden weapon, Wu wondered if he'd be able to back up his talk or he'd be humiliated terribly like always. "Aaalright, me and you fight then whoever wins, gets to duel with Garmadon!"
The boy with the evil blood raised an eyebrow, an attractive smirk pulling up the side of his lip. "You sure you guys want to fight me? What with my spinjitzu and a golden weapon that's kinda suicidal."
Misako rolled her eyes, a loving smile forming on her lips. Garmadon's proud tone used to irritate her terribly, but now, it was one of the things he loved the most about him. "Oh please Garmadon you're not that good. It's about time I knocked your ego down a notch."
"Oh it is on." Garmadon swung his sword, causing soft flames to glow around the gold.
Due to the fact that the weapons were very real, thus very deadly, they had to do some digging around the training equipment to find head and body gear that would prevent them from spilling each other's guts in an attack. Wu's helmet was too large for his small head but, not wanting to complaint, he decided to deal with the fact that half his vision would be blocked.
Lightning vs earth. Calm and stable vs Unpredictable and energized. Misako was the first to attack. She swung her weapon forward, aiming for Wu's chest. The small blue eyed boy flipped backwards at the last second. Misako swung again and again, driving Wu back against the wall. As she got ready to deliver the blow that would grant her victory, Wu swung his nunchucks wildly, knowing that he couldn't allow himself to lose so quickly.
C'mon Wu focus He yelled frantically in his head Feel your weapon. Listen to it.
He closed his blue eyes so that his other senses sharpened. A rush of air on his left warned him of Misako's next attack. He lifted his nunchucks at just the right angle, blocking the sharp metal inches from his chest.
Focus
He felt Misako's weight against her weapon. He shifted his stance, tangling his weapon with Misako's using a quick flick of his wrist. Then he pulled his arms into his body, throwing Misako's weight forward and sending her off balance.
Wu's eyes snapped open. He'd done it! He'd managed to land an attack! Now Misako would trip forward and he'd be the unquestionable winner. . .
But something was wrong. Misako was falling. But her body wasn't gracelessly giving into gravity's pull. Instead, it was starting to spin ever so slowly. . .
In a few seconds, a dark brown tornado formed around Misako's body. Wu stared in shock, one weak word escaping his dry lips. "Spinjitzu. . ."
The green eyed girl was in shock. She stared at the power around her with wide eyes. Then she snapped her conscience back into focus. She had to beat the boys. Using her mind rather than her body, Misako threw herself forward, crashing against Wu's frozen body sending him back onto his butt.
"I did it!" She stopped spinning, with a huge smile lighting up her features.
"Ouch. . .," Wu frowned. He'd lost again. Not only that but he was now the only one who couldn't do spinjitzu.
"Impressive," Garmadon stood straight. " But now you've gotta try to beat me."
"Oh I think that will be no problem."
Misako didn't dare use spinjitzu again. Though it had been a pleasant sensation of everlasting power, it had also made her mind tired and she was afraid she would end up unconscious if she pushed her mind too far.
A golden scythe crashed against a golden sword. The girl's defense was equal to The boy's. Their attacks mirrored each other, as if they could both read what the other was about to do by simply looking at their eyes.
Garmadon's pride caused anger to boil in his blood. He should've beat Misako the second the fight started. He should've shown them all how powerful he was.
The grip in his sword tightened. He had to show them what he was capable of. He was strong. He was powerful. He was smart.
He was the best.
Garmadon swung his weapon forward. He swung it with anger, the evil in his body taking over his brain, controlling his actions. Misako recognized the flash of extra bright crimson in Garmadon's eyes. Something wasn't right.
Sharp pain exploded in her skull. She felt her body fly backwards, the world around her blurring into a mess of colors when the back of her head was smacked against the concrete floor. Her stomach twisted inside her body and she felt remains of breakfast rise up her throat.
"Garmadon!" Misako heard a voice shout. Her brain wheeled forward slowly, until it recognized the voice as belonging to Wu's father. She forced herself to sit up. She tried to say that she was alright, that it had just been an accident.
But her voice chords refused to make a sound.
Because, even as she told her eyes to focus on the scene around her, even as she tried to look at Garmadon's eyes, or Wu's face, Misako's eyes could see no more than a blur of colors. She could barely make out the shape of what was around her, every detail escaped her vision.
Something wasn't right.
"You think being the green ninja is a mere game?" Hikari shouted at his sons, as he headed towards the pale girl. "This is not what a hero would do. None of you are near the level of what it takes to be the green ninja!"
