A/N: Thank you all for the love for the last chapter. I'm just banging these chapters out aren't I? Guess I'm feeling inspired lately. I was gonna wait to post tomorrow but with the news about my Main Bae Reigns I had to post as a way of coping with the news. I've calmed down and hope he has a speedy recovery. Guess I'll have to catch him the next time WWE comes back to Chicago. Hope my fellow Reigns fan girls are doing okay! But who is ready for NOC?! Hopefully our favorite Lunatic Fringe will make an appearance so I won't completely lose my mind! Anyway enjoy the chapter :-)
Alexandria wiped her hands on her jeans as she walked through the hallway of her parents' mansion, sighing softly. She, along with Wesley and her father, finally arrived to Georgia a couple of hours ago and the moment she walked into her childhood home, her mother immediately mauled her with hugs and kisses, beyond happy to see her. Although her relationship with her mother was strained like her relationship with her father due to her overbearing nature, Alexandria had to admit she did in fact miss her and miss the home she lived in all of her life. The young woman couldn't help but feel a twinge of guilt at the thought of how much she made her mother worry by leaving months ago without a word. But now that she was back, her mother planned on making up for lost time whether the young woman wanted to or not.
After finally escaping from her mother's watchful eye as she fed her plate after plate since she looked like she hadn't gotten a decent meal in ages, Alexandria made her way to her father's study to say goodnight to both him and Wesley, the latter being dragged away by Sherman the moment dinner ended. She was extremely exhausted after the past two days and was definitely looking forward to resting before facing the real world in a few days.
Alexandria raised her hand to knock on the door but paused once she heard hushed, tense voices coming from the study.
"You know this can blow up in our face don't you?"
"It won't."
"How do you know that Sherman? What if Alexandria finds out?"
"She won't! Just remain calm. Everything will work out."
Alexandria's brows knitted together in confusion, wondering what her boyfriend and father were discussing. Without another thought, she pushed the door open and entered the study, folding her arms across her chest.
"What if Alexandria finds out what?"
Sherman and Wesley's heads whipped around at the sound of her voice. Sherman smiled warmly at his daughter while the color drained from Wesley's face. Alexandria's brow quirked up curiously, waiting on their response while she watched her father walk towards her and quickly hug her.
"What are you doing here sweetheart?"
"I came to say goodnight to both of you. Now what were you two talking about? What won't I find out?"
Wesley glanced at Sherman desperately, nervousness radiating through his gaze as he fidgeted with the watch on his wrist. Alexandria felt her patience thinning quickly as the seconds ticked by before her father held up his hands chuckling.
"Ok you caught me pumpkin. I wanted it to be a surprise but I guess I'll tell you." Sherman ran a hand over his greying beard and exhaled. "I was just telling Wesley how I planned a welcome back lunch for you with a few people from the country club."
The tension that occupied Alexandria's body a few minutes ago quickly dissipated once she heard her father's explanation, her shoulders relaxing. "Oh well that's fine. I guess it'll be nice to see a few people from the club next week," she stated.
"Well that's kind of the surprise. The lunch is happening tomorrow."
"WHAT?!" Alexandria exclaimed, her calm demeanor swiftly disappearing. She turned to face Wesley. "Did you know anything about this?"
Wesley shook his head, relief slowly filling his body at how quickly Sherman was able to cover the real reason behind their earlier conversation. "He just told me before you walked in Alexandria."
"You can't be serious Father. I just got back to town and already you want me to be thrust back into the public eye without letting me get acclimated to being back?"
"Oh, don't be ridiculous. You shouldn't have to get acclimated to being back home Alexandria. These are your friends and family you'll be surrounded by. People that missed you. It'll be a smooth transition."
Alexandria gripped the bridge of her nose between her thumb and index finger, squeezing the bone tightly to prevent the migraine she felt approaching. Everything was moving way too fast. She just wanted to get used to being back under her parents' roof after being on her own for the past several months and get comfortable with being back with Wesley and working on their relationship before she made a public appearance as if everything was fine. But her father was stealing that opportunity away and rushing her to get her act together when in all honesty, Alexandria knew her life was a big jumbled mess.
"Sherman, can you give me and Alexandria a moment alone?" Wesley asked, observing Alexandria's reaction with a keen eye.
The older man nodded his head and exited the room, leaving the couple alone. An awkward silence filled the room as Wesley poured two glasses of water while Alexandria quietly mumbled to herself, pacing back and forth in front of the dark brown leather couch. Wesley snagged her by the wrist, halting her movements and handing her the glass. Alexandria took a long sip of water while she felt Wesley guiding her to sit on the couch, secretly desiring a bottle of beer instead.
"So, you're okay with this?" she asked, breaking the silence after a few minutes.
"I mean I don't see any problem with it."
Alexandria rolled her eyes at Wesley's quickness to agree with her father's decision and inability to see things from her perspective. "Wesley I just got back today. Now all of a sudden I have to turn around and pretend as if everything is fine. As if I'm fine? It's too soon. I need time."
Wesley dragged a hand over his head and sighed. "Sweetheart, sooner or later we're going to have to face the public. Might as well get it over with."
Alexandria bit her bottom lip and diverted her gaze from Wesley, staring off into space. How could he not see why she was upset over her father's plan? Didn't he understand that emotionally she was not prepared to be pushed back into her old life? So much had changed with her during the time she was away from Georgia. She had came to appreciate not being under the scrutiny of people and the lunch her father planned was just going to put her back in that predicament.
"Are you having second thoughts about us?"
Alexandria almost choked on the ice cold water she was drinking, Wesley's question catching her off guard. Her head snapped back towards the politician as his eyes bore into hers, waiting on her response. Guilt gnawed away at her as she spotted the saddened expression on Wesley's face. It was no secret that he was excited and eager to have her back in his life. She would hate if she was the person who destroyed the happily ever after dream that was embedded in his mind of the two of them being married because she was still hung up over Dean.
Alexandria shook her head, pushing the thought of the wrestler out of her mind as quickly as it appeared. She reached for Wesley's hand and squeezed it reassuringly.
"It's not that Wes. I..I just want to work on strengthening our relationship before I push us back into the spotlight. There are still things we have to work on before we go out into the public eye acting as if everything is perfect. I'm not looking forward to answering all of these questions about where I've been either."
"Maybe you should've thought of that before you left."
Alexandria tossed a sideways glance at Wesley the moment the statement left his lips, her lips pursing together. She scoffed and shook her head. "Excuse me?"
Wesley exhaled, reaching for Alexandria's hand quickly before she could become upset. "I didn't mean to say that."
"I think you did." Alexandria pulled her hand away from Wesley's. "You still haven't forgiven me for leaving have you Wes?"
Wesley bit his bottom lip pensively. "I'm not going to sit up here and say I've completely gotten over it Alexandria. I mean it's going to take me a while to forgive you for leaving me. You should be able to understand that right?"
"Of course," Alexandria said as she quickly stood to her feet. "It''s all my fault that I left. Nothing you did was wrong. It was all because of me. Unbelievable."
Alexandria started walking towards the door, quietly trying to tame her temper before the discussion between her and Wesley escalated into a full blow argument. Before she could reach the door, Wesley gently grabbed her arm and turned her body to face him.
"Did I say that? No I didn't. Why are you putting words into my mouth Alexandria?"
"I know you Wes. I know what you're thinking even if you don't say it."
Wesley leaned against the wooden desk sitting in the center of the study, still holding onto Alexandria's wrist his fingers tracing her soft skin. "I know you're not the only reason why you left. I know I did some things as well that you have to forgive me for as well and there are a few things I have to work on, like how I tend to say the wrong things at the wrong time," he said with a chuckle. "Look I don't want you to worry about people asking you where you've been or why you left. None of that matters. All that matters is that you're back where you belong Alexandria. Ok?"
Alexandria's gaze avoided Wesley's, stubbornly refusing to stare at the Senator. She pulled her bottom lip into her mouth when she felt him tilt her head to the center, forcing her to look at him. When she saw the apologetic expression on his countenance, she nodded her head, deciding to drop the issue. "Ok. But I'm still not ready to share you with everybody yet."
Wesley chuckled and leaned over, kissing Alexandria on her temple. "I understand. But your father went through a lot to plan this event on such short notice and it would mean the world to him if you agreed with it. He's seriously trying to fix his relationship with you too Alexandria and he thinks this would be a step in the right direction."
Another sigh slipped from Alexandria's lips. She was definitely not looking forward to plastering a fake smile on her face as if she was happy to see anybody from her parents' country club, people she couldn't stand despite her parents and Wesley thinking most of them were her friends.
However, as she stood in the middle of the study, Alexandria had to admit that Wesley was right. She was trying to fix things between not only herself and Wesley but with her parents and herself as well. If agreeing to the lunch would help fix the fractured relationship she had with her father, then there couldn't be any harm in trying, right? Alexandria would simply have to learn to live with it.
"Ok fine. I'll do it," she relented, giggling when Wesley exhaled dramatically. She held her breath as Wesley leaned over and pressed his lips to hers, pecking her briefly before backing away and pulling her towards the door.
"Let's inform your father you've agreed to the lunch. Then we'll have to see if your mother can get in touch with her stylist so we can pick out an outfit for you to wear on such notice."
Alexandria plastered a wide grin onto her face and nodded her head impassively as Wesley tossed his arm over her shoulders, ushering her out of the study.
"That was a great thing you did."
Roman glanced up from the email he was reading on his phone to see Seth leaning against the doorframe of his den. He was taking the time to relax after the baby shower, allowing Alyssa to get some much needed rest in their bedroom. The baby shower ended a few hours ago, right in time before the storm arrived and guests slowly trickled out of the Reigns' home, leaving just the parents to be, Seth, Naomi, Cameron, and Jimmy.
Roman's eyebrows rose as he placed his phone face down next to him, leaning back against the couch and folding his arms. "What are you talking about Rollins?"
Seth walked further inside and plopped down next to Roman. "Inviting Alex over so her and Alyssa could make up. I know you weren't too thrilled to learn about her and Dean but being able to put your feelings to the side so they could fix things between them was big of you."
Roman sheepishly ran a hand along the back of his neck and shrugged. "I didn't do much. I just thought it was time the two of them talked things out. I could see how much it was upsetting Alyssa that she and Alex weren't on speaking terms. So I knew I had to push them towards one another. I just didn't want their friendship to end over something trivial."
"Oh like how your friendship with Dean ended?"
Roman chuckled wryly. "How did I know you would make that connection?" he asked his friend.
"Because you were thinking it as well," Seth replied. "Have you talked to him recently?"
Roman shook his head. "Not really unless it's about work."
Seth exhaled in exasperation, turning his body fully so he could look at Roman. He loved Dean and Roman as if they were his own brothers. But sometimes their stubbornness and unwillingness to work things out between the two of them made him want to rip his hair out of his head.
"He's doing horrible," Seth bluntly revealed. "Apparently him and Alex broke up last month and despite him telling me he's fine, I can tell he's not. He just seems like he's out of it."
"I figured something must've happened when she showed up with her ex today," Roman stated, frowning at the memory of the unknown man that gave off a negative energy inside his house earlier that day. Roman couldn't figure it out but it was just something he didn't quite like about Wesley. "Did Dean tell you why they broke up?"
"No, he kinda just glossed over everything. Now rumors are going around backstage that he's messing around with Eva Marie. It's like he reverted back to his old ways."
Roman clicked his tongue against his teeth and shook his head. He truly believed that Dean had changed his playboy ways once he met Alexandria and developed feelings for the younger woman. It definitely appeared that the two of them cared immensely about one another and were determined to be together despite how others felt about it. Something big must have happened for the two to call it quits.
"I know he cared about Alex a lot, more than he's ever cared about any other woman. Hell he fought me for her. That's fucked up they broke up."
"Are you truly sorry to hear about it or are you relieved?"
Roman lowered his head and exhaled deeply. "I guess I deserved that."
"Look Reigns I know you're upset that Dean and Alex didn't tell you or Alyssa they were together and I even told Dean they were wrong for hiding the truth. But honestly, they weren't obligated to inform you or Alyssa about their relationship. They're grown and what they decide to do with their own personal lives is their concern, not you and Alyssa's. You two completely overreacted when you found out the truth and were dead wrong."
"I know."
"And not only that but-" Seth trailed off when Roman's words registered in his mind. "Wait, what?" he asked, his eyes slightly widening.
"I said I know we were wrong. That's why I invited Alex over today. Alyssa owed her an apology as did I. I didn't want us to be the reason why their friendship ended and I was tired of the animosity between the two of them."
"And what about your friendship with Dean? If you know that you were wrong, what's stopping from making up with him?"
Roman shook his head, thoughts of how he and Dean planned to finally sit down and work things out after a year of not speaking disappeared the day he learned the truth about him and Alexandria. Logic screamed at him that if Alexandria and Alyssa could make up then so could he and Dean. Yet, he made no effort to fix his relationship with his former best friend due to pure stubbornness and apprehension on his end.
"If you're awaiting for me to give you a logical explanation, then you'll be disappointed to know that I don't have one Seth. I know the right thing to do is work things out with Dean but my head is stopping me. Just when we were getting close to overcoming him teaming up with Summer Rae, this situation with him and Alex blew up everything. What if I try to give him another chance again and something else happens? Or maybe he simply doesn't want to try because of the foul shit I said to him when we fought? Maybe us being friends simply isn't meant to be."
Seth scoffed and rolled his chocolate brown orbs. He would laugh at how similar Dean and Roman were if the situation wasn't agitating the hell out of him. The fact that both of them had reservations and concerns about making the first move towards a reunion showed how much alike they were. All the more reason Seth had to make sure things were fixed between his two former stable mates.
"Just listen to him Reigns. I couldn't get through to Dean but if anybody can it's you. Hell you get through to everybody. And right now, my gut tells me that Dean desperately needs his best friend to have his back. We may not have hung out like we used to but I could see Alex helped him change for the better. But now that they're over, I'm afraid he's going to slip back into his old habits," Seth stated.
He stood to his feet and placed a hand on Roman's shoulder, making the Samoan man raise his head. "Dean needs us. He needs his brothers to stop him from fucking up the best thing that has ever happened to him. And he needs to know that at the end of the day, we have his back. It's about time you two put the past behind you and move forward."
Roman silently watched as Seth exited the den before releasing a sigh. He knew Seth's advice was legitimate and made sense. He had been holding onto the pain of Dean's betrayal for far too long and it was time he grew a pair and made an effort to hear the man out. Dean and Summer Rae didn't succeed and he was happy with Alyssa. There was no reason for him to continue punishing Dean.
Roman grabbed his phone and started searching for Dean's number. Once he located it, he pressed the icon to place a call to Dean, patiently waiting for the other man to answer.
A steady downpour of rain cascaded from the sky outside, a soft grey overcast hovering over the city of Tampa. Dean's icy blue orbs watched as Alyssa struggled to find a comfortable position on the couch while she took a few sips of water from the bottle she pulled out of her purse, several thoughts running through his mind. What was she doing here? Did Alexandria send her? Did Roman know she was there? What did she want? Did she know about him and Alexandria breaking up?
"If you're here to bite my head off again, then I'm not interested. I think I've had enough of that to last me a lifetime," Dean said with a slight slur, breaking the uncomfortable silence in the apartment.
Alyssa exhaled and rested her hand on her stomach, wincing softly when her lower back spasmed. She inhaled deeply and licked her bottom lip, nodding her head. "I guess I can't blame you for assuming that's the reason I'm here," she replied with a wry chuckle. "But I didn't come over here to argue with you. I actually came by to apologize to you Dean."
"Apologize?" Dean repeated, the tone of his voice slightly elevating. "Is this some kind of joke? Why would you want to apologize to the man you hate?"
"I don't hate you." Dean tossed a disbelieving look in Alyssa's direction. "I don't! I just...Ok I hated what you did to Roman. You were his best friend and you betrayed him. I hated seeing how much pain Roman was in as a result of your deceit for the past year and that made my dislike for you intensify," Alyssa explained. "In my eyes you didn't deserve a friend like Roman. He had been nothing but kind to you and you paid him back in one of the most horrible ways. I always felt as if I could never forgive you for what you did."
"Well what made you change your mind now?"
Alyssa clasped her hands together in her lap and sighed. "Today Roman put his own feelings on the back burner and did something for me. He told me the reason he did it was because he didn't want to bring our children into a family full of hostility. So I'm simply returning the favor. He has everything in his life but his best friend and he truly wants you around while he embarks on this new journey of fatherhood. You and Roman need to make up Dean. And I know that you and I need to be on the same page to make the reconciliation easier."
"Who says me and Roman will even become friends again?" Dean asked, shaking his head. "He made himself clear the last time we spoke. He'll never trust me again and there's nothing I can do to change that. Without trust, there can't be a friendship between us."
"Dean I know Ro like the back of my hand and I know he misses the hell out of your friendship. He's just too damn stubborn to admit it. Now we all said some shit during that argument or did something that we didn't necessarily mean. But you haven't been there these past few months. You haven't seen Roman deal with this internal struggle on whether he should forgive you or not. He knows it will take time to repair the fracture but he's willing to do it because his life isn't complete without you in it. Sure he's happy about winning the title and excited to become a father, but he still misses his best friend. You can't tell me you don't feel the same Dean."
Dean lowered his head and dug his toe into the wooden floor, his shoulders slumping forward. He would be lying if he didn't admit he missed Roman. The two of them had an indescribable bond that went beyond friendship. What first started off as a working relationship soon transformed into a brother hood. From closing down bars after shows to the Samoan man inviting him to his parent' house for holiday gatherings so he wouldn't be alone, Dean and Roman connected in an unique way that Dean hadn't been able to do with anybody else. He was definitely interested in patching things up with Roman. He was just concerned that it was too late.
"Too much has happened to fix things between us Alyssa. Maybe it's just not meant to be."
Alyssa released an agitated growl and ripped a hand through her hair, smacking her lips and wincing slightly as she felt a stomach crap quickly appear. "No wonder you two are best friends. Both of y'all stubborn as hell," she remarked.
"Just drop it."
"No I won't just drop it!" Alyssa exclaimed. "Roman was willing to give you a second chance. Yes he may have gotten upset when he learned about you and Alex but I know you two can get over that if you just try. Why are you so damn convinced that things can't be fixed? Why aren't you trying to make a fuckin effort?!"
"Maybe I'm trying to protect him!" Dean roared, startling both himself and Alyssa. Veins protruded from his neck as his face turned a deep shade of red, his chest rising rapidly. "Has it ever occurred to you that maybe Roman deserves a better friend than me? One that celebrates his accomplishments instead of becoming jealous? Somebody that supports him and his dream instead of trying to sabotage him? He is destined for great things: he has a great wife, a wonderful family, and a flourishing career. He doesn't need a fuck up like me bringing him down."
Realization hit Alyssa with a brute force as she stared at the man that stood in front of the door. It never dawned on her that out of all the people that had an opinion on what he did to Roman, Dean would be the most critical. Was it possible that he wasn't attempting to fix things with Roman and had accepted his fate of being a loner for the remainder of his life because he hadn't forgave himself yet?
"Is that what you think?" Alyssa asked softly, a frown gracing her lips. "Dean you aren't a fuck up."
"Says the woman that told me that nobody wants me around and accused me of physically hurting Roman on purpose," Dean scoffed.
Shame crossed Alyssa's features as memories of her intense argument with Dean months ago flashed through her mind, not one of her best moments. "Look I was harsh that night and I shouldn't have been. I was concerned about Roman and I let my emotions get the best of me. But that gave me no right to snap on you. It was childish and out of line and you didn't deserve it. I know it was an accident and you wouldn't purposefully try to injure Ro's career. I'm sorry for what I said Dean."
"Nothing to apologize for. Everything you said was true. Nobody wants to be around me. Hell my own family showed me that."
Alyssa struggled to stand to her feet and waddled towards Dean, placing a comforting hand on his shoulder. Dean didn't bother looking her in her face, instead deciding to study the detailing on his wooden floor.
"You made a mistake. But we all make mistakes. That doesn't mean that you're a horrible person. It simply means you're human. I seriously doubt you are as horrible as you think. If you were, Alex wouldn't have given you a chance. She wouldn't have selected you to lose her virginity to and she wouldn't have defended you the way she did to all of her friends when we tried to convince her to end things. She saw something special in you Dean. Something I didn't see at first but now I kinda do."
The moment Alyssa mentioned Alexandria, Dean felt knots appear in his stomach. He still hadn't made an attempt to contact her and pretty much resigned himself to the fact that things between them were indeed over. "She just tricked herself into seeing something she wanted to see. Everybody was right when they said she could much better than me. Just like I'm not the friend Roman deserves, I'm not the man Alex deserves."
"You and I both know that isn't true. Just look at how you stuck up for her and defended her when you and Roman got into it. You're not the same Dean you were last year. It took me a while to realize that but I know it now. I don't know if it's because of Alex or on your own accord, but you've grown into a better person," Alyssa said. "Is that why you ended things with Alex? Because you were trying to protect her like you think you're protecting Roman?"
Dean's eyes finally landed on Alyssa's, shock radiating in her gaze. "How did you-"
"The thing I told you Roman did for me? He invited Alex to my baby shower and we talked. She told me how you ended things with her. She didn't tell me why though," Alyssa told him, deciding not to mention Alexandria being accompanied by Wesley to spare Dean further heartache. "I also heard some whispering from a few people you've gotten involved with Eva."
"I'm not involved with Eva," Dean replied with a shake of his head. "I tried to hook up with her after I broke up with Alex. But I just couldn't bring myself to do it."
"That's because your conscience stopped you. Hell as much as I didn't want to see it, I saw how much you cared for her and how much she cared for you. You know you two belong together and not with anybody else."
Dean stuffed his hands into the pockets of his destroyed jeans and nodded. "Alex is best woman I've ever met Alyssa. She's intelligent, she's sweet, and she's caring. Why would she even want a hot mess like me? Somebody that wasn't even loved by his own mother? A person that was turned to drugs to help cope with life? Why deal with a migraine like that when you have somebody as perfect as Wesley waiting on the sidelines?"
"I may not know you that well but I think I have some insight into the type of person you are because we're similar in a way. We both came from fucked up pasts because of our family situations but we can't let that define who we are today. I was worried I wouldn't be a good mother because I didn't have a good example. But if living with my mother and dealing with her bullshit did anything it showed me an example of the type of parent I don't want to be. Yes your past was fucked up but don't let it dictate what happens now or what will happen in the future."
Alyssa paused and grimaced slightly as she felt her back tighten on her again. "As far as I'm concerned, you're a much better match for Alex than Wesley," she said with a roll of her brown orbs, her tone dripping with disdain. "Just because he's a politician and wears nice suits don't mean a thing. It's just something about him that I don't like nor trust. I just have this feeling that he constantly wants to control her, wants to mold her into the type of wife he thinks he deserves. But Dean you accept Alex for the person she is just like she accepts you for who you are. I'm sure Alex won't hold your past against you. That's not the woman she is and you know it."
"What are you saying?"
"Lemme ask you a question Dean. Are you happier now that you and Alex are apart? Do you truly feel like you made the best decision? And don't try to lie to me and say you're fine. Roman tries to tell me that bullshit too and I can see right through him all the time."
Dean's eyes eased closed and he shook his head. The facade he hid behind for the past month slowly crumbled around him as he released a strong breath. "I'm fuckin miserable without her Alyssa," he revealed quietly, steely blues locking onto deep brown orbs. "I fucked up."
Without another word, Alyssa turned around and grabbed her coat, quickly pulling it on. Dean was caught by surprise when Alyssa tossed his leather jacket in his direction. He caught it before it fell to the floor. "What are you doing?"
"Alex is leaving for Georgia tonight. She told me she's moving back. Hopefully this storm will delay her flight and you can catch her before she leaves."
"Are you saying what I think you're saying?" Dean asked as he quickly slipped on his shoes, grabbing his keys from the table they were sitting on.
Alyssa turned to face Dean. Instead of the hardened expression that was usually etched onto her face when she looked at him, a smile graced her lips. "It took me a while but I know you're the best person for my cousin, not Wesley. You two belong together and dammit I'm gonna make sure it happens. Now bring ya ass!"
"But-"
"But nothing Dean. If you can see yourself with Alex for now and later on down the line, then fight for her! If you want a better life, then claw and scrap for it! Stop feeling pitiful for yourself and fight for what you want!"
Before he could utter another word, Alyssa pulled Dean towards the door by his wrist. As the duo exited the apartment and made their way down to Alyssa's Chevrolet Cruze, Dean realized Alyssa was right. He couldn't continue to let guilt for his past mistakes prevent him from going after what he wanted. It was time that he stopped believing he wasn't worth redemption. He deserved a second chance and it all began with winning Alexandria back.
Dean glanced over towards Alyssa once they climbed into her car. "Why are you doing this?"
Alyssa started up the car. "I was wrong to hold onto what you did to Roman and almost rob you of the second chance you deserve. I want everybody I love to be happy and it's clear you make them happy."
A tiny smirk crept onto Dean's lips as his body relaxed in the passenger seat. Alyssa quickly whipped the car out of the parking spot and exited the lot, driving towards the expressway that would lead to the airport. As she merged onto the expressway, an exasperated growl slipped from Dean's lips when he observed the bumper to bumper traffic moving at a snail's pace.
"You've got to be kidding me!" he snapped, pulling a hand through his wet hair. He banged his head against the headrest, as uneasiness crept inside of him at the thought of not reaching Alexandria in time. "Could this night get any fuckin better?"
A loud popping sound similar to bubblegum popping echoed throughout the car making Alyssa temporarily tear her eyes away from the traffic. Her eyes bulged slightly as she felt something trickling down her legs.
"Uh oh."
Dean turned to face Alyssa, his eyebrow raised. "What's wrong?"
The color from Alyssa's face disappeared, her knuckles turning a paler shade as her hands gripped the steering wheel nervously. She glanced over to Dean.
"My water just broke."
A/N: Trouble in paradise between Wesley and Alex, Seth trying to talk some sense into Roman, and then I hit y'all with the cliffhanger to end all cliffhangers! Thoughts/Threats are welcomed. R&R :-)
