Pounding. My heart pounded. My sight was blurred and I heard a high pitched ringing in my ear. I clutched my head screaming however I could not hear myself.

What's happening to me?

What's happening to me?

What's happening to me?

It kept replaying in my head,

his sea green eyes looking at me one last time

The hovercraft collecting his body

The letter

The arrow piercing in Ell's chest

Her motionless eyes staring into the sky

Her body on the river

I couldn't do this anymore – I was alone. I hit the wall of the cave over and over, punching it until my knuckle was red and bloody. I realized what my weakness was, the worst enemy was my mind, I had gone past the point of caring anymore. "Kill me please!" I yelled to no body, I just wanted to be saved from my mind. I clutched the letter and it soon got soaked with my tears. I curled up on the cave floor and closed my eyes.

It was still dark outside when I woke. I sat up and looked around then remembered, I was on my own. My head felt slightly better and my vision was much clearer. My stomach cried and I realised that I hadn't eaten in so long – the pain had been devouring me. Standing up I walked out of the cave opening, it didn't seem real that such horror had happened in this area last night and now it was silent, almost peaceful. The trees swayed in the breeze and new flowers were blossoming in the soil below me.

It was only me, Buena and Robyn left, two more people and I can go home. I walked through the forest in search of food, I found nothing so finished off the crackers that I found in Ell's bag. I wondered if she was with Dylan now, could they see me? It comforted me to think that and I didn't feel so alone. As I came around a clearing I noticed something on the floor in front of me, it was slightly raised from the ground like an old wooden floorboard. It took me less than a second to realise what this was before I leapt backwards. The net fell from the trees and hit the ground so quickly I couldn't blink. Robyn and Buena jumped out from behind a large bush snarling but their smiles faded when they saw I wasn't in their trap. "Oh clever Annie, she knows her stuff." Buena snarled walking slowly towards me with a sword in her hand. "Too bad there's nowhere left to run." Robyn laughed with a bloodthirsty look on her face. They reminded me of snakes hunting their prey, it was hard to imagine that they didn't have blood pouring out of their mouths. Robyn loaded up her bow with arrows as they continued to come towards me. I spun around but there was nowhere to run, they had cornered me. "This is it." I thought and I pictured Olly and Dylan and Ell one last time.

As I closed my eyes wincing, Buena's sword about to stab into me suddenly a loud rumble was heard. It was deafening, like an earthquake. Robyn and Buena spun around to see water rolling down the mountains and coming towards us. "RUN!" Robyn screamed and we all started to sprint, I ran more than I have ever ran in my life. For my life. The dam must have burst and that was an awful lot of water coming towards us. I turned my head, it was coming closer and closer, creeping up on us. "I – can't – run – anymore." Buena gasped slowing down, but Robyn carried on running not stopping to help her. "Robyn!" Buena screamed as the huge wave swallowed us…

I acted with my instincts and swam. With all force and my arms arching into motions I kicked my legs so hard and rose to the surface of the water. I gasped and gagged, my lungs felt full of water. It was the most violent conditions that I have ever swam in, waves kept viciously throwing me backwards and forwards in the water. It pulled me down and dragged me around, I couldn't control it – it was horrible. Suddenly the cannon sounded. It was so loud that the noise shook through me nearly causing me to be dragged under the waves again. I turned my head and saw Robyn swimming for dear life that means Buena had died. I didn't have time to think but just kept swimming, the whole area had been swallowed by the water, it just looked like I was swimming in an ocean. I was getting weaker and weaker, I was swimming on little food and had no more energy. In the distance I saw a peak. It was a tree that had managed to stay up. As I reached it I started to climb, it was still around the height of a lamppost. I clung on so tightly and shivered in the cold breeze. It had all happened so quickly, I was about to die and the water had saved my life. Everything that had happened in the past few days did not seem real, it seemed small compared to this. Robyn suddenly emerged and she looked a sickly pale colour, she was gasping for air and flaring her arms about. As she came closer I fished her out and helped her grab onto a branch of the tree. "Why are you doing this?!" She yelled above the fierce sound of the wave hitting on another. "I don't know. I don't want to kill you Robyn." I replied. Her eyes filled with sadness.

"I'm a monster why are you doing this for me, you should've just let me die!"

"I wouldn't wish that on anybody Robyn." It was just her an me. Out of 24 fighting tributes we remained. The sun started to set and the orange sky reflected onto the water. We continued to cling onto the tree branches as the waves danced around us. "I'm sorry for everything Annie." Robyn whispered and let go of the branches. She fell into the water and it swallowed her in a second and I yelled "NO!" the cannon sounded and I was left. Alone.
