A/N: I really did mean to have this up sooner. However writer's block and RL did not allow for me to write much. I am trying to write new chapters for His Wife and Bloodstained. Between my tutoring job, subbing, a spontaneous trip for a job fair to NYC (loved this city) and Boston (loved this city even more), and trying to move, as well as a social life, everything has been very crazy.
Thanks to my reviewers and readers. You are all amazing. Please R&R.
Have to send out a very very special thank you to SapphireEJ for inspiring me to keep writing and giving me so many different ideas. I can't wait for our adventures. I am lucky to have you to help and very lucky to call you a friend, THANK YOU!
Disclaimer: Not mine...still adore them all and I am so very excited for season 5!
He has never been scared of what a perp could do. Some promise to seek revenge on him, but very few have actually tried.
Of the ones that tried, no one came close to what Benjamin Walker had threatened. Danny knew that Walker would be true to his word as well. When he heard that Walker had been released, he didn't realize how scared he was. Looking back on his day, it was one he didn't want to relive. All Danny could think about as he strapped the backpack bomb to him was his family. Sure he would do anything to save Jackie, but his family was on his mind the whole time. How his sons always seemed to make him look at things differently than before. How his sister mother-henned the entire family and looked out for her brothers. His grandfather, always playing the host, and making sure the family was close and well taken care of. His father, the top cop in the city, intimidating many of the people he worked with, yet he was a big teddy bear to his kids and grandkids. His baby brother, whom he cared about more than he let on, always worrying about him and the rest of the family, happy that the two of them had been able to build their broken relationship into a great friendship.
Knowing that it could happen didn't change the shock of it actually happening. He had guns pointed at him many times before but none with such clear intent of actually killing him. It was the first time he was ever scared to be a cop. Walker had blamed him for the death of his girlfriend and son, the latter of which he never got to meet. If Danny had somehow ended up in the same situation as Benjamin, he would be just as upset, for he cannot imagine his life without his two amazing, rambunctious sons.
All Danny found himself doing that entire day was praying. Praying that Linda would get the text, that she would hopefully think something of it and not dismiss it, and that somehow he would be found. After processing and questioning he was allowed to go home but not before he was briefed on Jamie and his father's day. Even after everything that he had gone through that day he was thankful that they were both alright.
As he stood in front of his house with Linda sobbing in his arms, he thanked his lucky stars that he was home.

Jamie knew growing up that his family was different from the others. His family was so entrenched in public service that he never saw himself not involved in the law. He knew that there were often times that he would have to stand up for his family. More often than not it was defending Danny.
As he stood in front of Officer Blake's house, this time he was standing up for his father. The person who had taught him more than he could ever thank him for and yet his new partner is telling him that the P.C. of New York City doesn't have the officers backs. Jamie knows that is far from the truth. Professionally, he is on scene, ready to assist if needed. Personally, he is barely holding it together. Knowing his father is in the house with an officer who knows how to use the gun, he is now holding to his head, but could easily turn on the P.C., his father, is scaring him beyond belief right now.

When Jamie finally gets back to the precient, he feels like he can breathe a sigh of relief. However that calm only lasts about five seconds when he sees Renzuilli walk up to him with sense of dread written all over his face.
"Listen kid, I know your day hasn't been all that great and I don't want to make it any worse, but your brother was taken hostage by a guy he arrested years ago…"
"What? Please tell me he is okay…" Jamie hears himself plead. Wincing at the sound of his voice.
"He is okay, shaken but okay. You should go see him just to make sure for yourself."
As soon as he saw his brother alive and breathing in his living room, he thanked his lucky stars he still had Danny.

"Hey Danny," Jamie began as he sat down next to his brother. He wasn't quite sure what to say to him. Jamie had thought his day was bad, however once he heard about his brother being held hostage, he no longer thought about the fight that he and Cruz had had. All that he was worried about was seeing his brother and making sure that he was alright. For he knew he couldn't stand to lose another brother. He also wondered how his father had held it together when he knew that his son was the hostage in a hostage situation, for Jamie himself barely held it together hearing it after the fact.
"Hey, kid," Danny replied quietly as he watched Jack and Sean play basketball in the driveway. He knew he should probably stop calling Jamie, kid, but it was a habit and something that he and Jamie shared. Sure it rubbed Jamie the wrong way a bit, but right now he didn't care. He was home and with his family.
"Were you scared?" Jamie asked quietly, "because I know I would be. All I would be able to think about would be the family. You are all I have."
"I wouldn't admit this to many people but I was terrified. Terrified that would never see Linda or the boys again. That I'd be leaving dad down another son and…and you and Erin down another brother, I couldn't do that to you guys. I just kept reciting the prayers I had learned at mass and thinking of you guys…I couldn't leave you behind. If I did who would tease you?" Danny tried to joke but Jamie could hear his voice was thick with unshed tears.
"I was so preoccupied with the argument that Cruz and I had, that I really didn't even notice how tense dad was at the scene. If I had known then what had happened I would have been a mess. I mean for those brief seconds when I didn't know if you were okay or not, I barely held myself together. How dad did it….I have no clue," Jamie confessed.
As the silence set in, just watching Jack and Sean and now Nicky, they both thanked the loved ones watching them from above that Danny was still here.
"Wanna go grab a beer? This is kind of…yeah…" Danny disrupted the silence.
All Jamie could do was laugh, "yeah, I need one or five…"

As Danny walked back in his house after an evening with his brother, all he wanted to do was take his strong, amazing, and beautiful wife in his arms. It was because of her, that he was rescued. That he was here. Walking into the kitchen, he sees Linda holding a letter that he knows has come from Jamie.
"I wanted to read it. But I know that it is something you share with Erin and Jamie. More so Jamie than anyone else, but I couldn't bring myself to read it. You have an amazing brother, Danny, don't forget how much he cares about you. How much we all care about you. I'll be upstairs when you are ready," his wife explained as she left him to read the letter. However he couldn't let her leave without a kiss. A kiss that embodied so much as they parted Danny couldn't help express just how much she meant to him.
"Thank you," he whispered. He knew it was all he needed to say. "I love you."
"Love you too," she smiled.
"Love you more."

As he opened the letter he finally let the pressure and emotions of today flow.
Danny,
I can't believe how close we came to losing you today. If Jackie had been even five minutes later, I would be burying another brother. When I heard about what had happened, I nearly lost it. I still don't know how Dad held it together at the scene. Thinking back on it now, when we briefly had eye contact I saw pain and fear.
The last time I saw that was Joe.
However I didn't think anything of it. I know that you were terrified…as was I but for other reasons. You guys are all I have and you mean more to me than you realize. I would miss you too much to continue on with the work. This family needs you. Your sons and wife need you. Erin, Nicky, Pops and Dad need you. I need you. I hope to everything that nothing like this ever happens to Erin, Dad, you or I again.
I easily could have lost both you and Dad today and…I'm not even going to finish that thought. I know now how bad it was and I hope, as a family we never have to go through that again. Thank you for making sure you came home.
Your brother,
Jamie
Danny wasn't even aware that he was crying until he felt a tear fall onto his hand. He had been terrified that he would never see his family again. He knows that his family needs him. That his baby brother, that still allows him to call him kid, needs him. He was going to do everything in his power to come home to them. He knew his brother would do the same. It was ingrained in their Reagan blood.
