Flying

Parvati squeals as she soars through the air, Lavender's arms wrapped around her. She normally loves to fly — her father had taught Padma and her at a young age and it's one of the only memories she has of him — but that's because she's normally in control. It's exhilarating, letting Lavender take control and propel them both through the air at a much faster speed than a broom can go, but it terrifies Parvati at the same time.

"Do we have to go so fast?" Parvati yells. She can feel Lavender's stomach bounce against her back with laughter.

"You're the one who asked how fast I could go!"

"Yes, but I wanted an answer, not a demonstration. Put me down!"

"If you insist," Lavender says, and Parvati instantly regrets her words.

Lavender grips Parvati tighter and then dives towards the ground at full speed. Parvati screams. She's certain they're going to crash into the tree in her back garden. Their speed keeps increasing and the distance between them and the tree gets smaller and smaller.

Parvati swears she can feel the leaves on the tree brush her cheek as Lavender makes a sharp right at the last second and moves away from the tree, eventually landing on the roof of Parvati's house. Parvati instantly moves away from Lavender and sits down, her breathing heavy.

"That's the last time you ever take me flying," Parvati says when she finally has her breath back.

Lavender laughs. "You're the one who has an angel for a girlfriend. You can't have expected I'd never take you flying?"

"I also didn't expect you'd nearly kill me when you did," Parvati says with a laugh.

She gets to her feet and crosses the distance between the two of them, looping her arms around Lavender's neck and bushing her fingers against the soft feathers at the top of her wings.

"I love you," she says. "But if you ever do that again I'll end you."

Lavender doesn't get time to reply before Parvati gently pulls Lavender's head down to meet her own and they're kissing.
