Chapter 21:

Two days later, Hanna woke up to the sound of her phone's alarm. She pulled off a scowl, reached her hand to snooze it and when she was doing it, the phone dropped on the floor.

"Dammit!" The girl bent down to pick it up and noticed that the screen had cracked. "Are you kidding me? Oh, for Christ's sake."

Ashley Marin walked into the room in a flash. "What was that?! Hanna, are you okay?!"

"Mom, yes. Relax. It was just my phone, I dropped it and now the screen is broken."

"Oh, thank god." Ashley walked out of the room, with a sigh of relief.

Hanna rolled her eyes and got out of bed, looking at her iPhone's cracked screen. When she was walking towards the bathroom, she noted that the phone wasn't actually working. "Oh hell no." She kept trying turning it on but nothing happened. "Shit! F***!" The blonde threw the phone against the wall, furiously. Hanna stared at the broken phone on the floor. What was going on with her? Why was she feeling so mad? Okay, sure, she had spent the last two days locked inside her house with her mother making her eat like an elephant, but still. Ashley Marin entered the room again.

"What was that, Hanna? The phone again?"

"This time it was on purpose." She said, still staring at the phone.

"Why did you do that? What's gotten into you?" Mrs. Marin grabbed the broken iPhone and frowned. "I'm not going to buy you a new one." And she got out of the room, after settling down the dead, broken thing in Hanna's bed.

The blonde's mood was decreasing every moment. Especially when she remembered that she had to go to school. That week she didn't go to school at all, but at least it was Friday.

Hanna walked into the classroom and sat down on her regular desk. Only a few people were already in the room, but none of her friends. And She wasn't there either. The blonde haven't had heard from her since the day that she passed out; of course she wanted to talk to her that day in the hospital; at least she came to see her at the hospital, even though she didn't come to visit her in the last two days, or even just call her. That's one of the reasons she was feeling mad, for sure.

Wait, she's just got into the classroom. She sat down and didn't even look around the room. Well, that's why she didn't see Hanna. The blonde was in the fourth row, while Spencer was in the first one.

Aria and Emily eventually arrived too and sat down next to Hanna, asking how she was feeling and all that same old stuff that you ask at someone who's sick. The weird part was that Spencer, during the whole class, didn't look at her friends, not even once. If she did, she would have noticed Hanna.

But the blonde decided to do something. On the last 10 minutes of class, she raised her hand.

"Yes?"

"May I go to the bathroom?" Hanna asked, looking at Spencer's back, instead at the teacher. Nothing. Absolutely nothing. Spencer didn't move a muscle. Although, the blonde noticed Spencer was texting someone.

"Well, there's only 10 minutes left. There's no use, Hanna. You have to wait." The teacher replied. Hanna didn't even listen to what she said; Spencer was still texting. Toby. Great. Eventually, the bell rang and everyone got out of the class in a rush, Spencer did too, but when she was packing her things, she looked back and stared at Hanna; the blonde stared back at her. Spencer nodded slightly and walked out; Hanna had the feeling that she was trying to tell her something with her eyes, so the blonde walked out of the class too, but the brunette had already disappeared.

"Where's Spencer? Have you seen her? I need to slap her."

"What?! Hanna, what the hell?" Aria stared at Hanna, astonished.

"Okay, I'm not gonna slap her. Although I should."

"Don't be mean, Hanna. She's your girlfriend."

"Is she? 'Cause it doesn't seem like it."

"What happened with you two?"

"She thinks I kissed Caleb." Hanna rolled her eyes, crossing her arms.

"And did you?"

"No!"

"Okay, calm down. Just talk to her."

"That's what I tried to do two days ago and I ended up in the hospital."

"I bet she wants you to talk with her."

"Well, apparently not, 'cause she's nowhere to be seen."

"Go find her, Hanna."

"Geez, Aria, you sound like my grandma."

Aria started laughing. "I'm serious, go."

"Okay, granny." Hanna chuckled and walked away.

The blonde spent the next half an hour looking for Spencer. She was already betting she was with Toby somewhere, but then she saw her right down the corridor; Hanna ran towards her, cursing her idea of wearing heels that day. Once she was next to the brunette, she grabbed her, pulled her into an empty classroom and closed the door behind them.

The blonde let go of Spencer's arm and stared at her, without saying a word. The brunette stared back at her, still kind of surprised with what had just happened. They kept staring at each other awkwardly for a couple of minutes.

"I'd apologize for spending so much time with Caleb and the almost kiss that was totally one sided, but now I can't because I know you've been texting Toby."

"What? I haven't been-"

"Oh, really? You didn't call me or text me for two days and today in the class I saw you texting someone."

"I didn't get in touch with you because I was mad at you! I still am."

"Who were you texting?"

"I'm the victim here."

"Yeah? Who were you texting, then?"

"Hanna, stop!"

"Stop what? I wasn't going to kiss him, I wasn't gonna let him, goddammit! So what do you do? Run to Toby."

"I didn't… I mean, I thought of it, but.. I didn't, because I would never cheat on you!"

"So why were you texting him today?"

"I wasn't, I was texting you!"

"Me?" Hanna's face loosened up a little bit, as she got taken by surprise.

"Yes, I thought you got my text when I looked at you when the class finished."

"But… Oh. I broke my phone this morning."

"Really? On purpose?" Spencer raised an eyebrow.

"No, yes, no. Yes." The blonde broke the eye contact between them and looked down at her shoes.

"I… I would never cheat on you, Spencer."

"So why did you let Caleb get his hopes up?"

"Because I didn't tell him we were a couple."

"Why not? I told Toby."

"Because… I don't know, I didn't get the courage."

"Because you still have feelings for him?" Spencer frowned.

"Of course not." Hanna focused her gaze back on Spencer. "It's always kind of hard to tell your ex, who meant a lot to you, who are you dating."

"It shouldn't be."

"It is to me. But I did tell him. That day on the hospital, when he came to see me."

Spencer's expression softened.

"So, yeah. This is it. This is my apologize."
