Chapter Twenty-One:
Gin's POV
I sat around wondering what to do. Aizen told me to wait around the gardens until he came back. Tōsen was here too but he was a really boring guy, even for an adult. I wish there was someone to talk to. It was hard to stay quiet, though I was going to do it. I half-wanted Rangiku to be here with me, but then again, she wouldn't let me do this if she knew. Heck, there would be no reason to do this if she knew what happened. That's not the point right now. The point was that I had to see what Aizen wanted. I sensed him approaching and he brought someone with him. "Since you are going to be taking an entrance exam, there are a few things I wish to ask you about." I overheard Aizen mention. It had to have been the woman he had to train. Heather, I think her name was. He wanted to induct her? I guess that makes sense. She does know the future after all but she was so obvious of a choice. "What exactly?" I heard her ask and I noticed them approach us. I saw her face darken, it seemed as if she knew. Creepy. "What's going on?" the woman questioned slowly. "I think you know what is going on." Aizen answered with his usual smile.
She did not seem surprised but proceeded to call him out, "Yeah, I know what this is but I'm surprised you had the balls to do it out in the open." Oh! Someone is almost as sharp as I am. "No one's here but the few that are involved. If one were to pass by it would appear as if it we were simply exchanging pleasantries." Aizen replied as if trying to console her. I couldn't help but to hold back a sigh. Did he honestly believe she was that dumb? "The dumb ones maybe." Heather retorted and asked, "How often do you see kids hanging out with a pair of adults and someone from another company just here to enjoy the proverbial view?! No offense, Tōsen." I could have laughed at her comeback and Tōsen's expression afterwards. Aizen was angered at the critique but simply smiled and replied, "At least you're perceptive." "Don't patronize me. It's only common sense." she replied aggressively. "Then let's cut to the chase." he commanded calmly and elaborated, "I'm very particular who I induct—" "You meant straight-face lie to." Heather cut him off.
He looked at her as if in shock that she would dare talk to him like that. She was proving to be entertaining to watch. "Watch your tongue, woman!" Tōsen snapped heatedly. Heather countered, "It's in perfect working condition, thank you." "Enough, you two." Aizen intervened and clarified, "I assure you, Heather, my intent is not to be deceptive. It is merely a matter of persuasion." "Persuasion? What exactly do you have up your sleeve?" Heather inquired lowly. "No tricks. No gimmicks. Simply what you've presented to me: a certain captain, for example." he hinted nonchalantly. "You leave him out of this mess." she demanded. Aizen pointed out, "Well, his fate would be entirely up to you." "And lose not only my self-respect but his as well? To be your lackey?!" Heather questioned in an outrage at the very idea and turned away with a huff, "Forget it!" "You'll regret your decision and I'm not always going to keep this opportunity open." Aizen snapped almost losing his cool.
I watched her leave and was slightly curious as to why she would risk such a thing. I mean, she cared about Ōtoribashi, so why wouldn't she try to defend him as much as she could even if it meant…maybe she knew it was inevitable and did not want to be dragged down in the process. Who knows what's going on in her head? I always thought that she was really weird. I know I might be acting stupid now that I think about what happened tonight, but I don't really care. I know that if I kill Aizen, Rangiku will get her powers back and she will never be hurt by anyone else ever again. The only thing I know for sure is that I am no longer the only one that can see through his cheap disguise.
