Here's another chapter, don't know when next I'll post I have to update my other two stories.
It was another late night for Kate so after Maddie's preschool Castle decided to take Maddie to the park and then for ice cream.
"Daddy," she said taking another lick of her cookie dough ice cream.
Castle looked up from his ice cream when he heard her bubbly voice turn serious.
"Yes sweetie," He said.
"Toby said that creepy Monsters live under your bed and in your closet during the night."
"And who told Toby that?" He asked.
"His older brother," she answered.
Castle held her hand in his. "Well I assure you, under your bed does not have any monsters, ok"
Maddie nodded her head. "Ok Daddy."
It was 1am when he heard it, a loud scream going through the loft. He looked at Kate who was fast asleep she had just gotten there about half past 1, and he didn't want to wake her after she clearly had a rough night, it was the third time that week that Maddie was having nightmares. He quickly got out of bed and hurried to Maddie's room where Alexis was already there.
"It's ok dad I've got her." She assured him.
He ran a hand through his hair as a long yawn escaped from his mouth."Are you sure?"
He was going to find Toby and make him pay.
Alexis nodded her head, "I was just asking her if she wanted to sleep with me for the rest of the night."
Maddie held onto Alexis' leg the fear evident in her eyes.
Castle just nodded his head and gave both of them a kiss on each or their foreheads.
The next morning Kate walked into the kitchen pulling her hair out of her work shirt and smiled at the occupants of the kitchen Martha who was chipping fruit and Castle was making the coffee.
"Hey why's Maddie sleeping in Alexis' room?" Kate asked grabbing a bottle of water from the fridge and taking a long gulp.
"She had a nightmare." He answered.
"She's still having those, I thought they had stopped?" Kate asked.
"Yea she usually start screaming before you get home, except last night, you slept like a rock."
"Well I've been at work at all crazy hours with this case. Have you tried to tell her monsters aren't real?"
He poured out two cups of coffee, "Of course I have, but she wouldn't believe me, she's stuck on what that Toby said."
"Well then, how do we get the nightmares to stop?" Kate asked.
Martha spoke up for the first time in the conversation. "As a mother of a man who used to have nightmares about space monsters and giant marshmallow men, I have a suggestion to make. It worked on Richard."
Kate laughed at the latter thing that gave Castle nightmares.
"What? People got stuck to him then he ate them, that is scary as hell for a kid." He defended.
Martha shook her head, "Which is why he didn't even look at a marshmallow until he finally got rid of his marshmallow phobia."
"So mother what did you do to get rid of the nightmares mother?" Castle said trying to change the topic.
The elder woman paused before speaking.
"You may not like my suggestion but it's what I had to do, I just waited for him to grow out of it. He had them for about two weeks and then he was back to sleeping through the night."
He took a sip of his coffee. "Really mother, that's it? I thought you actually had a suggestion that would work."
Martha shrugged her shoulders, "Well you can do another thing I did, mix her juice with some booze and she will be out like a rock throughout the night and bye bye nightmares."
Kate's eyes widened, "Did you really do that?"
"Only once or twice the most and that was when I had early morning scenes."
Castle shook his head, "Thank you mother, but I think Kate and I'll come up with something else."
"Suit yourselves darlings." Martha said leaving the kitchen.
That night Kate finished her case and arrived home early enough to tuck Maddie in for the night and was sitting on her bed, Castle sat on it making her sit between the v of his legs.
"So you're home early," He said messaging her neck. "And I was thinking seeing that we have the whole night to ourselves, and you have tomorrow off so how about you and I take a bath together I've already filled up the Jacuzzi and maybe afterwards we can occupy ourselves with each other." He said trailing soft kisses down her neck, his hand slipping downwards with each kiss.
Just as things were getting heated, there was a loud scream. "Mommy, Daddy!" They pulled apart from their intense make out session.
Castle let out a frustrated sigh.
"I got her Castle, and don't worry I'll put her back to bed then we can continue." Kate said getting up and leaving the room.
"Hey sweetie, what's the matter?" She said sitting on the edge of the bed.
"Mommy they are monsters under my bed I saw it and one in my closet." Maddie cried hugging on to Kate's waist.
"Alright how about this, I'll check under your bed and in the closet for any monsters, then we'll chase them away ok?"
Kate said separating the clothes so she could see the back of the closet."You see there's nothing there."
Maddie grabbed onto Kate's waist, "They were there mommy, I saw them they only left because you came."
She picked up Maddie and rubbed her back. "Mommy, can I sleep with you and daddy tonight?"
Kate knew that it would ruin the plans that Castle may have had, but the moment she saw Maddie's tearful eyes she already knew her choice.
"Maddie," Castle said the question in his voice clear.
"Maddie wants to sleep with us tonight." Kate said and she was sure she heard Castle groan.
And Maddie was out the moment her head touched the bed leaving the two adults to lay awake thinking about what their night would have been like without their minor interruption.
The next evening Alexis came through the door with three heavy bags.
"Need help with those sweetie?" Castle asked stirring his pasta sauce.
"No I'm good." She answered closing the door with her foot.
"Lexie," Maddie cheered running to her.
"Remember yesterday when I said monsters were nice?" Alexis asked.
The little girl nodded her head watching as Alexis dug through the bags.
"So I got you these," She said pulling out three dvds. "Monsters inc, monster university and monster high."
"Guess what else? I bought you all of the dolls for monster high."
They watched all the movies even though it meant keeping her up past her bedtime.
"Alexis is a genius," Kate said shrugging off her robe. "I never would have thought about that."
"Me neither," said Castle. "Shh did you hear that?"
Kate looked around her brain already alert. "Hear what?"
Exactly he said pulling her to him and kissing her soundly and that night there weren't anymore interruptions.
