20. Just Like Me Part 3; Hate

I decided to go out for a walk while Nami was chewing Luffy out.
I swear, those two are like a married couple. It really wouldn't surprise if they got hitched.
As I walked through the streets of town, I suddenly heard the sound of cluttering. I looked back and saw- yep, you guessed it- Kodi and Rena running from this guy with a broom in his hand.
"GET BACK HERE WITH THAT MEAT, YOU THIEVES!"
I watched as the pups ran, but Rena tripped and fell.
"Rena!" Kodi cried.
I growled as the man raised his broom, threatening to hit Rena with it.
Not if I can help it!
BARK! BARKBARKBARKBARK! BARK!
I charged at the man and grabbed his broom with my fangs, trying to wrestle it away. At that moment, Kodi and Rena made their escape. I soon followed.
"That's right, run! Get out of here, you bunch of fleabags! And don't come back!"

We ended up at the entrance of the forest to catch our breath.
"Thanks for helping us back there, mister," Rena said to me.
"No problem, kiddo," I said to her.
"Rena, don't say anything to him!" Kodi scolded her.
"Hey, she's being grateful that I helped you two!" I spat. "If anything, you should be, too!"
"Why should I?" Kodi growled at me. "You were with those humans!"
I snorted.
So he thinks that because I'm a pet, I'm no different than all the other humans he hates?
"Look, kid," I said. "You've gotta stop this. If you and Rena keep this up, the humans will really hate you."
"So what?" Kodi asked. "I hate humans, and if they hate me and Rena, that's just fine!"
"So you think that humans hating you and your sister is fine?" I asked him. "If your mother heard you right now, she'd be really ashamed of you!"
The pups gasped.
"How do you know about our Mother?" Kodi asked me.
"You wanna know?" I asked him. "Old Man Big Pine told me and my friends about you and your mother. Listen, I'm trying to help you kids! You can't go around suddenly saying you hate humans!"
"Why not?" Kodi spat. "A human killed our mother in that fire!"
My eyes widened. Kodi must be talking about Old Man Big Pine. He must've believed that he killed Juna instead of her sacrificing herself.
I sighed, but before I could say anything else to him, I heard a voice.
"Blizzard! Here, boy!"
Luffy's calling me.
I turned to leave, heading to the sound of his voice.
"That's right, leave!" I heard Kodi say. "Go back to your master!"
I ultimately chose to ignore him…the smug little runt…
"Kodi, maybe we should listen to him," I heard Rena say.
"He's with humans, Rena, and humans can never be trusted, and neither can pets! Remember that!"
I sighed.
Somehow, I've gotta show Kodi that he doesn't have to hate all humans…
But what could I do?
