*I tried to be much faster with this chapter. Enjoy!*
It turned out that Olivia wasn't in labor that night. They had just been strong Braxton Hicks contractions and she had nothing to worry about, because she probably had at least a few more days until they would be meeting their little girl.
As much as Olivia hadn't thought she was ready to have her second child, thinking that she didn't have a choice and that she was going to have be a mom of two, made her realize she really was ready. She knew it was going to be a huge change, but she was done being pregnant. Liv knew that she was ready to finally hold her daughter in arms.
The Tuesday after Miles birthday party, Olivia and Brian had gotten up for work like normal. Brian had left early, having a new case that required him to go to the scene. So Liv took Miles to daycare later, on her way to the precinct.
Her morning had started out hectic, as normal. She had a new case that had come in the night before, on top of the two open cases her and the squad were already working. She and Amaro had spent the morning in interrogation with suspect from two of the cases, while Fin and Amanda worked on finding witnesses and talking to victims from their newest cases. It had been a long morning for everyone, but finally one of Nick and Olivia's suspects broke and confessed to the rape of his former girlfriend. Amanda and Fin had also had luck finding a few eye witnesses to the attack that had happened the previous night.
When afternoon rolled around the squad was busy working on paperwork from the case Liv and Nick had closed and trying to find whatever new leads they could for the cases that were still open.
She had started out the morning feeling fine, but Olivia's afternoon was much rougher. She was starting to have more persistent Braxton Hicks contractions and her back was absolutely killing her. She was so uncomfortable, she couldn't help but shift and fidget in her seat.
Nick watched his partner and the pained look that took over her expression. "You good, Liv?"
"Yeah, I think so." She answered him. The truth was though, she wasn't. She was never one to complain or tell everyone what was bothering her, but she was really starting to feel awful.
Another hour passed and it was almost three o'clock and Liv just couldn't stand to be at the precinct anymore. She knew she had work to finish, but she was uncomfortable and preoccupied and she wanted nothing more than to be at home.
Before she could decide on her own to head home early, Murphy left his office and came out into the squad room, walking up to Olivia. "Why don't you go home?" He suggested. He had been watching her from his office and could tell something was off.
She sighed, wanting so badly to just get up and leave. "I have a lot of stuff that really needs to get done though." She told him.
"It's not anything that can't wait." He gave her a knowing look, like he understood that she would really just like to leave. "We can get some of it finished for you and it will be here when you get back."
"Are you sure you don't mind?" She was looking at Murphy, but the question was directed at all of her team.
Amanda jumped in. "Of course not. You are about to have the baby any minute, you shouldn't even be here anyway. We can handle a little extra work for you."
"Okay." She let out a deep breath and slowly stood up from her char with a helping hand from her CO. "Then I'm going home and I will see you all tomorrow."
Olivia gathered her stuff and left the precinct, happy to be headed home. Her drive seemed to take forever, as her back was gradually hurting her even more and causing more discomfort than she had felt while she was at work. She arrived home and as soon as she got into the apartment she laid down on the couch not having the energy to go all the way to her bedroom. It took her maybe 10 minutes from the time she laid down and turned the TV on to fall asleep. As much as her contractions and back, were bothering her, she still had only gotten about three hours of sleep the night before, so she was exhausted.
It wasn't until Brian came home and Liv heard him and Miles come through the door to the apartment, not realizing she was asleep, that Liv woke up from her nap.
Brian walked into the living room setting Miles down on the floor and noticed Liv just sitting up. "I'm sorry, Liv. I didn't realize you were sleeping."
She sat up all the way. "It's okay. What time is it?"
Brian sat down next to her and Olivia laid her head against his chest, still tired. "It's almost five thirty. How long have you been asleep?"
"Umm… a couple of hours." She answered him.
"Not feeling so great?" Brian put a hand on Olivia's stomach, feeling the baby kick.
"That's an understatement." Liv sighed, trying to get up so she could use the restroom, but unable to because of her size. Brian got up and took both of her hands pulling her up, only causing her even more back pain. She took a sharp breath as she stood up, the pain, even though she didn't think it was possible, was worse than before.
"Why don't you go lay back down while I make dinner?" Brian suggested. He knew that even though Liv hadn't said in so many words she felt awful, he could tell. Her demeanor and expression said it all and she never took a nap unless she felt just absolutely horrible.
"Are you sure?" The answer shocked Brian. Olivia always fought him on resting and taking it easy. She never just agreed. Now he felt bad, because she must really just feel horrid if she gave up that easily.
Not wanting to question her too much, Brian just went with it. "Of course not. Go ahead."
"Thanks." Liv left the room, waddling towards the bedroom.
Liv spent another hour in bed watching TV and trying not to think about her Braxton Hicks contractions that were just getting more and more persistent. Brian had gotten dinner ready for himself and Liv, as well as fed Miles his dinner.
After dinner, Olivia ended up back on the couch with Brian massaging her back while they watched a movie. The ache in her back was becoming more of a rhythmic cycle of sharp pains. She had a feeling that something was different about these pains than they had been before.
When the movie finished, Olivia was still exhausted so Brian helped her up and walked her into the bedroom. While Liv changed into her pajamas and got as comfortable as possible, Brian checked on Miles who was sound asleep.
It was only nine thirty when the couple went to bed, but Olivia fell right asleep despite the growing pain. She was just too tired to worry about it and she wanted nothing more than to catch up on some sleep.
Sleeping, however, was short-lived and within in two hours Liv was awake again, woken up by an increase in her back ache. She was more than irritated that her rest had been interrupted, yet again. But the pain was just too much and it forced her to get out of bed because lying on her back was only making it worse.
She got up and left the room without disturbing Brian who was still asleep on his side of the bed. She went into the space where the living room and kitchen met and grabbed on the island when she felt another pain rip through her back. She leaned over the counter, swaying slightly to allow some of the pain to ease up. It helped slightly, but she was still feeling the sharp pains in her back a lot more than she had earlier.
Olivia wasn't oblivious, she could tell that something was definitely up and she had a feeling that her daughter would be entering the world a little sooner than everyone thought.
Olivia stayed hanging over the island for nearly fifteen minutes, until she started feeling the pain elsewhere. Her stomach tightened, becoming hard as a rock, while she felt a lot of pressure along with the ongoing pain in her back. It was different than the Braxton Hicks; there was no pressure when she had those. This was a whole different thing that was going on. She stood up with the pressure, holding her stomach with one hand and her back with the other.
When the pain subsided, Olivia started to walk towards the couch, feeling the need to sit down again, but she was stopped by another round of tightening in her stomach along with even more pressure than before and this time when it stopped, it ended differently. As soon as she felt the pressure let up slightly, Liv felt a gush of water running down her leg and noticed the puddle that was now sitting at her feet.
A feeling of panic ran through her, before she reacted. "Brian!" She yelled. "Brian!"
She heard a rustle coming from the bedroom and heard Brian's feet hit the floor as he quickly made his way into the living room.
"Liv, what's wrong?" He could see the wide eyed look that ran across her face, a look of shock.
"My…" She had a hard time spitting it out. "My… my water just broke."
