Snake Venom
Snakes had a surprisingly little
amount of free will
and their poison surprisingly tame.
Perhaps that was why rattlesnakes
flicked their tails towards danger
as though it were a predator, waiting to strike.
Cowardly, but safe. Strategic.
And who could fault them for that?
And maybe it wasn't
that they were so easily manipulated
Because, really,
humans and the human voice were the same.
