A Painting in the Park
Chapter 21
Bonus Chapter/ Bumbleby Short
Blake was humming quietly to herself as she read a book on the couch. She always loved reading. In fact, that love of reading is what made her decide to be an author. She wanted everyone else to know the same kind of joy she felt. The feelings. Sadness, anger, despair, regret. Happiness. The same kind of happiness that was present in her daily life now.
"Hey, their, hot stuff!" Yang cried out, jumping onto the couch with a smirk and a wink.
"If anyone should be called 'hot stuff', it should be you and your… fiery attitude." Blake responded.
"Awww, thanks! I knew yo-" There was a moment of silence during which Blake lowered her book to look over the edge, hiding her own smirk as Yang stared open-mouthed.
"What's this whole 'fiery attitude' supposed to mean?!" Yang suddenly blurted out, causing Blake to laugh. Yang was quick to join in.
"I am most definitely not sure what you're talking about in the slightest." Blake said with mock innocence, causing the two of them to burst into laughter once again.
"I may be the one with all the guts and courage and anger here but you're the one with all the smarts and wit." Yang said cheerfully in response, completely ignoring Blakes comments. She already knew full well that if she tried to call Blake out on it, the girl would somehow manage to turn it around on her. She always managed to do it. Always.
"So, whatcha reading?" Yang asked Blake as she flipped the page while discreetly holding her phone in her hand as well.
"A dictionary." Blake said as she scrolled through a book on her phone, an actual dictionary in her hands.
"Pfft, nah I doubt it." Yang said, pulling the book from Blakes' hands. Blake willingly let it go and hid her phone at the same time. Yang groaned out loud when she realized Blake hadn't been joking. Blake only grinned, still managing to read her story.
"I did tell you. I don't know why you doubted me in the first place. I'm always right after all." Blake said with fake prejudice. Yang only snorted. A few moments later, when Blake raised her eyebrow at Yang, the girl was a sputtering mess as she tried to make amends.
"I-i-i mean, yes! You absolutely are! Always right, never wrong. Mhmm, yup!" Yang said, chuckling worriedly at the end. Blake only smiled widely.
"I didn't hear a sorry anywhere in there." Blake purred.
"I'm sorry!" Yang cried out in a teasing manner, knowing Blake well enough to know what was coming next.
"If you're really that sorry, then how about you come over here and prove it." Blake purred even louder. Both her's and Yang's smiles were quickly growing bigger before Yang suddenly jumped across the small gap between them.
It was a much later in the day before they were finally back to sitting peacefully on the couch once again. Blake was once again reading on her phone, something Yang had noticed happening not to long ago. Yang, on the other hand, was enjoying being close to Blake. It did seem to help that her favorite show was on though.
"Hey, Blake? You gonna go do any writing today? Because you've only been reading. Don't want to have you slack too much and get behind, after all." Yang said, out of worry more than to tease.
"No, I'm not. Sometimes what one needs are a few days to relax and unwind. If you force yourself too much you won't be able to get quality writing out of it. Then there's the case of block that I'm currently having." Blake said with a sigh afterwards. She had set her phone down to respond and she didn't look to be in a great mood because of her writers' block. After all, Yang knew that the girl absolutely loved writing.
"Well… Maybe I can help? Later of course. You did say you were going to take today to relax after all." Yang said, giving the other girl a tight hug. She giggled when she heard the light purring that the other girl made.
"What is it?" Blake asked when she noticed the tears streaming down Yang's face, who was trying a bit too hard to hold back her laughter. When Yang finally calmed down she answered.
"How do you do that? Like that whole purring like a kitty thing? It's absolutely adorable!" Yang cried out in joy, causing Blake's face to heat up.
"I-i absolutely do not make cat sounds Yang!" Blake cried out, smacking Yang in the arm as the girl continued laughing.
"How can you even deny it? It's so fuckin' cute though and I love it!" Yang cried, tears once more falling down her face."
"I mean… I suppose I do… But it's not on purpose!" Blake said, still trying to defend herself. Yang only nodded her acceptance as she tried to calm herself down.
"Of course, of course." She finally said when she was calm. Blake sighed and shook her head.
"What am I going to do with you?"
"Well, you could always-" Yangs comment, wink, and smirk were all cut short as her phone rang repeatedly.
"You should probably get that." Blake said with a roll of her eyes. Yang quickly picked it up and saw the number.
"Hey, it's Weiss! She never calls me." She quickly answers the call and can hear sirens in the distance."
"Tell her I said hi." Blake said in a quiet voice. Yang throws her a thumbs up.
"Hey, Weiss! What's up with all the sirens? Oh and Blake says hi by the way." Yang said cheerfully. She was a bit suspicious of those sirens though.
"Weiss? Nope! Guess again. And tell Blake I said hi as well." Came a voice that had never traveled through both phones.
