Yasu picked a quite spot within the cafe, and nodded for Gene to sit down. He did, after a moments hesitation. Yasu didn't have that same dazzling smile, so Gene knew something was up. He tilted his head, trying to get a read on Yasu's expression. It was near impossible, with how the light reflected off his glasses.
Yasu was looking at his hands on the table, thinking about the best way to approach this delicate situation. When he did finally look up, Gene had a worried look of concern on his face, and with the way he tilted his head, it made him look adorable. Yasu tried not to blush, before looking away with sad eyes.
"So what was it you wanted to talk about?" Gene asked, trying to break the silence. Yasu hadn't really wanted to talk about anything in particular, he just used Mai as an excuse. He wanted to talk to Gene, but couldn't think of anything else then Mai.
"I guess... nothing really" Yasu answered honestly, smiling up at Gene, being the wonderful actor he was.
"Is this to get my mind off Mai? While I guess you know... I like Mai. I haven't given up quite yet" Gene answered sullenly.
"Do you really think things between Mai and Naru will fall apart, or are you hoping they will?" Yasu questioned, once again allowing himself the distraction.
"I don't know... I think Naru is likely to do something stupid, and mess things up but... I still want Mai to be happy...
Mai and Naru sat in the cinema, watching 'Paranormal activity' and whispering to each other, all the flaws they saw. Mai giggling every so often.
"Where we going now Naru?" Mai asked, blushing lightly as Naru took her hand in his. They walked away from the cinema, and Naru gently led her.
They couldn't have been walking for more then a few minutes, but Mai was so curious, that the few minutes dragged on forever.
Finally, Naru stopped walking. Mai looked up, and the sign over the door. It was a restaurant. One that offered English food. Mai looking up, her eyes full of wonder and excitement. She had always wanted to go here, but hadn't wanted to go by herself. It wasn't socially expectable to go fancy places like that alone.
Naru saw Mai's eyes, and couldn't help the small smile that tugged at his lips. When Mai turned to face him, she was surprised to see that beautiful smile of his. She felt her cheeks heat, and knew her face was now a soft shade of pink. She ignored it, more interested in that smile. She couldn't even help smiling back.
The couple spent a few more blissful moments just staring at each other, before Naru opened the door. Mai bit her lip, not being use to people being so kind to her...
It was late when they arrived back to Naru's place. They had called Ayako, and told her it was just easier for Mai to spend the night around his and Gene's.
When they walked in, they were surprised to see both Gene and Yasu sitting on the sofa watching TV. A news channel was on, and from their grip expressions, it wasn't good news.
A woman stood outside the police station, where Mai had been that morning.
"...she dropped all charges, and didn't even know that man she saved. Turned out she saved the twin brother of Oliver Davis" Yasu ground, leaning back on the sofa, looking at the ceiling. That's when he noticed Oliver and Mai, standing behind them. Then, as if to rub salt in he wound, the woman showed pictures of the twins, so that they were no longer undercover.
"I'm sorry... this is my fault" Mai muttered, looking away.
"Baka, how could it be your fault?" Naru scolded. Mai bit her lip, watching as the woman showed the interview between Mai and all the reports. Mai looked away, seeing herself yell at the man about the personal parent question.
And that's when Naru showed up... before the clip ended.
"According to witness reports, for our very own Masako Hara, the two are dating, although there is doubt that it is anything more then pity, since the the girl is without family, and saved his twin brother"
The shock at what was just said, made the room deadly silent... Mai stopped breathing, and was sure her heart stopped beating. Pity... that's what this was... pity. Was she that stupid, to not have noticed? Was she really that pathetic?
She needed to stop doing this to people. Making them pity her... Naru had a life to live, without her holding him back.
"The press isn't making it easy for you guys, is it?" Yasu joked, rubbing the back of his head. Mai managed a painful smile, before she turned to Naru. She bowed, much to Naru's surprise.
"I am so sorry! I seem to have ruined your reputa-"
"Mai stand up" Naru told her. Mai looked up, her hair covering her eyes, hiding guilt and sadness. Naru placed his hands on her shoulders, till she looked up a little more. Naru saw a few stray tears, rolling down her cheek. The look she was giving, was heart breaking. He quickly enveloped her into a hug. "Mai, please. You are not some kind of charity... you are Mai, and I care about you, for you" Naru promised. Mai hugged him back, letting herself indulge herself for a little bit longer...
Yasu looked at the two, a small smile on his lips. He noted grimly, that Naru used the word care... he didn't know what to expect, but he knew Mai was more emotionally invested then that. He very much hoped, that their relationship was too one sided on Mai's part...
