Hey guys, the first test is done, now I have to wait until May for my next tests. For now, let's have some more of this story and Red Snowflakes. Also, I am going to RTX this year for all 3 days so maybe later on before the day of the event, I'll put out an update to let you all know that. Anyways, here is Chapter 21!
Weiss
The doctor from yesterday was not kidding when he said I'll be out the next day. After taking the medicine I was given last night, I felt better than I was when I woke up… no that doesn't describe it well… I felt like I woke up into paradise. I was able to move around with no problems at all and I couldn't help but feel joyful. Wait… I thought I was going to feel horrible when I woke up. Hmmm… I guess they weren't accurate on the side effects. I thought. Suddenly, I heard a soft snore on my left and I turned to see my partner sleeping peacefully. I should wake her up. Slowly, I placed my hands on both of her shoulders and shook her gently. "Ruby… Ruby wake up." I said in a soft voice.
My answer was a muffled groan. "Five more minutes." she said, her voice sounding dry and congested.
"Geez, what's wrong with your voice?" I asked.
Ruby groaned again and sat up. "I didn't get much sleep last night because I had to wait before they let me in to sleep with you." she said.
Oh, that's right… the doctor had her leave to talk to me. I sighed and ruffled her hair gently. "You know that you don't have to rest with me right?" I asked.
She chuckled softly. "That means I wouldn't be doing my job as a leader to make sure you're doing well in recovering."
Well that makes sense. "Ruby… I know you really care for me but that doesn't mean you have to get clingy."
"I'm not getting clingy."
"Oh really?"
Ruby sighed. "Okay, maybe a bit clingy but you're my partner and I need to take care of you."
The door opened suddenly and the same doctor from last night walked in. "How are you doing Miss Schnee?" he asked.
I smiled. "I feel amazing!" I said, my voice joyful.
He looked at me in confusion and nodded. "Hmmm… I was thinking that you were going to feel horrible since it said in the prescription notes but I guess it wasn't accurate."
That's what I thought too. I thought and sighed. "You can't really blame the doctor who made those notes, maybe I have different side effects to the medicine?"
He shrugged. "It's a possibility… anyways, I came here to tell you that you are able to check out now. Whenever you're ready to leave, just head up to reception and check out."
I nodded and he smiled. "Thank you, I feel like I'm ready to leave… but I should change out of this clothing." I said and looked down at the patient clothes that were put on me when I was unconscious.
Ruby perked up and stood up. "I'll bring you some clothes!" she shouted in an energetic tone.
I smiled. "Are you sure Ruby?" I asked.
She nodded and giggled. "I have something special for you."
When she said that, it reminded me of those times before we started dating that I would freak out about the special thing she wanted to give me, but this time, I wanted to know what she has for me. "Okay… go for it." I replied.
Her eyes widened in surprise. "Really?"
"Of course you dunce, now go." And with that, Ruby Rose took off in a red blur of rose petals. I smell strawberries… eh, that's a Ruby thing. I thought and sighed. I do love the smell of strawberries she leaves when she takes off with her semblance.
I was snapped out of my thoughts when the doctor spoke once again. "You both do make a good couple."
My eyes widened. "W-what?!" I exclaimed.
"Miss Schnee, do not worry, your secret's safe with me… and my partner Doctor Ember." he said, his voice still calm.
I was going to keep up a fight in making sure he doesn't know but I instead sighed in defeat. "Was it obvious?" I asked.
He hummed in acknowledgement. "You should say really obvious, you blushed when Miss Rose said she'll get you some clothing."
Wait… I DID?! A groan escaped my breath. "Well now you and your colleague-"
"Partner." he corrected.
"Sorry…" I cleared my throat before restating what I wanted to say, "you and your partner know so please do not tell anyone?"
"I already told you; your secret's safe with my partner and I."
For some reason, I felt like I know his partner. Wait… the doctor was a she and… oh yeah! "Your partner, Doctor Ember helped my partner when she got a long laceration on her leg during sparring practice."
He raised a brow in surprise. "Oh, so you have met Doctor Ember… she's a great doctor, always so friendly and reassuring to her patients."
I smiled. "Ruby really liked her."
He chuckled and gasped. "I never introduced myself to you; I am Doctor Brooks."
I giggled. "I never heard a last name like that."
Doctor Brooks shrugged. "Well my wife Katherine and I decided it should be that instead of her last name, McBride."
I thought for a moment. I heard those last names from somewhere but… oh nevermind. The door opened again and I saw Ruby with almost the same clothes she got for me at Vincent's store. "Wait… aren't those the-"
She placed them on my lap which made me stop speaking and said in a grand tone. "New and improved…" Ruby stopped and chuckled nervously, "well they're not the same clothes I picked out for you at Vincent's. Okay, they are identical but I made some tweaks on the material and other stuff just for you."
I raised a brow and slowly held them. It does feel different than the original. I thought. "Well I'm going to change in the restroom, I'll be out in thirty minutes since I need to shower." I got up from the bed with the clothes in hand and went to the door on my left. The best thing about the infirmary was that they gave each patient their own personal restroom to make it easier for them to go to it in case of emergency. For me, it was a serious emergency; I haven't showered in days since I had been hospitalized and I need to look great. I opened the door to the restroom and walked in, placing my clothes down on the edge of the counter and a towel on top of the toilet seat.
Then I went down to taking the clothes I wore off, placing them neatly on the opposite side of the counter. As I did that, I caught my eye on the full body mirror to my right and decided to peek at my body. The result was a gasp and a sigh; my perfect body wasn't so perfect anymore. Scars lined my pale nude body, some looking worse than others. This isn't me… it can't be me. I thought repeatedly. But thinking that will not my thoughts decide it was someone else… it'll always be me. I can just hear the negative and disheartening comments my father would give me already.
You can't protect yourself… you're too weak… you're not my daughter. I walked over the tub and close the curtains, turning on the shower while still thinking of what he would say. Even though I wanted to stop but once I thought about it, it would be almost impossible to do such a thing. I hated him for what he did to Ruby; how he could just kill us at any minute and it sickens me.
I just hope mother won't tell him of my injuries. I thought and sighed. The water was beginning to calm me down, the cold droplets relieving the heat and stress I built up. It would go like this for about twenty minutes, putting on the necessities that were already present inside, especially conditioner. Everyone would say my hair was the best thing about my looks, my icy blue colored eyes being second in that category, and I want to make sure Ruby has that one great thing. Ruby… I wonder how long we'll last now. Cinder and my father probably made our life expectancy short; we'll be lucky if we even graduate from Beacon with the hell they'll give us. Part of me wants to stay with my partner but will that even be worth it if she gets killed because of me?
She understands the danger Weiss… Ruby wouldn't be with you if she was scared of what would happen. I said to myself mentally. I turned down the knob beneath the shower head, making it stop running and I climbed out of the shower, grabbing the towel and drying myself. I heard someone knocking on the door. "Yes?" I said.
"Are you almost done Weiss?" It was Ruby.
"I'll be out in ten minutes… you should go visit Blake; I'll head over there when I'm done." I said, remembering that the cat faunus was also hospitalized here.
"Okay." I heard footsteps becoming faint as Ruby left, making me clutch my chest in fear. T-there it is again… I know she'll be fine but why do I keep worrying if she's still here in Beacon?! She's only going to see Blake, not go on a high risk mission. I thought, reassuring myself. I sighed and began changing into the clothes Ruby gave me. As I put them on, it felt a lot more comfy than it did when I wore them a few days back. It also felt cool instead of warm despite wearing the hoodie. I thought it was going to make it too hot in here… what did Ruby do with these clothes? I realized on the right pant sleeve of the black pants I got had the same snowflake logo I have on my bolero jacket. At least there is something familiar to me now on these clothes.
And last but not least, the atrocious sneakers. As I slipped them on, I suddenly felt a feeling of comfort and bliss. How did these sneakers get so comfy the second I put them on?! I should be hating this but I did the opposite. I love these sneakers! Okay, okay Weiss. Calm down… let's head to Blake's room. I placed the towel I used next to the patient clothes I worn earlier and left the restroom. I looked around and noticed I was the only one here. The doctor probably went to take care of other patients. I went to the door in front of the bed and opened it; then I walked out the room, taking a right where Blake's room was instead of the left where the reception was. I was glad that they put Blake in the room next to mine so Ruby and Yang could check on us easily. Come to think of it, Yang hasn't visited me… well that was probably because I wasn't here for long.
I knocked on the door gently and opened it, walking in quietly while closing the door gently behind me. Ruby and Yang were sitting on both sides of Blake's bed, making me worried. Yang turned to me and gave me a reassuring smile, probably noticing the worried look on my face. "She's just sleeping, don't worry."
I relaxed and pulled up a chair in front of the bed. "How is she?" I asked.
Ruby turned to me and smiled. "She's recovering well… you know how faunus are with their healing abilities." she said.
I smiled back and turned to the sleeping cat. "So what now?" Yang asked to Ruby.
I could tell she was trouble with thinking about it by the way she's scratching her hair. Ruby sighed. "We need to be careful… we don't know if Cinder will do something to capture Weiss or Blake." she said finally after a moments silence.
"We're just going to stay here?" I asked.
Ruby stood up and nodded. "I-I rather have everyone here at Beacon where we have support… and I don't want anyone to get hurt." I could tell she was going to break down. It always hurt to see my partner suddenly go from joyful to depressed and it only happened twice by now. I wanted to say something; something that could reassure her that we'll be alright but before I could, she got up quickly and left the room hastily, leaving Yang and I alone in a depressing silence.
