Chapter 21: The finale chapter :
Klaus uncurled himself and walked towards Caroline. He lay down beside her and wrapped his arms around her waist; his face breathing in her strawberry flavoured curls. It was getting late and Klaus was tired, but he didn't intend on letting Caroline leave his sight. He kissed the crook of her neck, and tucked her hair behind her ear. Then leaning in towards her ear he whispered; goodnight sweetheart, I love you, forever and always.
As he rolled over onto his side, he let his eyes close.
The room was dark and still.
"I love you too" Klaus heard a small voice whisper.
Klaus spun around to face Caroline, her blue eyes were burning with intensity.
He blinked away his tears, and cupped her face with his hands.
"I thought I lost you" he whispered.
He tangled his hands in her hair, and pulled her lips to his with desire. Caroline's lips were soft and tender. He wrapped his strong arms around her waist once again, and the kiss deepened. Caroline broke the kiss and examined Klaus's face with extreme detail. He had a prominent jaw line and his eyes were an intense mix of blue and green. His lips were as red as blood, and every time she looked at them she couldn't help but feel the need to kiss them.
"This is everything I've always wanted" she said.
She looked down from his eyes.
"What made you change your mind about me?" she asked.
Klaus lifted her chin to face him once again.
"Caroline, I never changed my mind. I always loved you, I just wasn't ready to admit it" he replied.
"So does this mean I'm your girlfriend now?" Caroline asked, with a sweet sounding laugh.
"Well Caroline if you would like to be mine, I would be honoured" Klaus replied.
He reached into his pocket and pulled out a gold ring. The ring had two hands for the band, and the hands held a heart with a crown on the top.
"This represents my love and loyalty to you, Caroline. It's called a Claddagh ring."
She held out her finger and Klaus slipped the ring onto it.
"Promise me one thing Klaus?" asked Caroline.
"Anything sweetheart" replied Klaus.
She rolled on top of him and whispered in his ear; "Always and forever."
Klaus grinned and pulled Caroline into a passionate kiss.

Caroline was spared from death because the wood did not pierce her heart, it only scratched it
Her compulsion was broken because of how strong Klaus and her love were for each other. Klaus swore to protect Caroline the rest of his life, and Caroline rid him of all his evil.
Kol never came between them again.
